Guest Reviews
- Richard (10/5): - In a word “charming“. Phil is going to great lengths to keep the charm of this old building. As a host, Phil is very good. He is personable, warm and friendly. We arrived for breakfast in the dining room to be greeted by a lovely open fire which was a special touch on a chilly morning. We would certainly stay here again. Nothing.
- John (9/5): - rrived a tad chilly, but the host already had the fireplace roaring to greet us—talk about a warm welcome! Our downstairs room was cozy perfection, and the host was an absolute gem, loaded with top-tier local dinner recommendations. Total champion of a host!

What a treat to be able to spread out on our road trip and relax on the big sofas. The owner was very proud to show us all the work he had done on the property, and he has certainly done a great job. He cooked breakfast for us the next morning which was delicious. Nothing

- Alan (10/5): Elegant and cosy - Unexpectedly a two room suite looking out over a beautiful garden - a very elegant and cosy, well-restored period residence in which to stay. On the main street but very quiet. Exceptionally good value and quality compared to the motels available in Glen Innes.
- Finola (9/5): Lovely accommodation in the heart of Glen Innes. - This is the best accommodation in Glen Innes! We had the run of the top floor with a lovely large bedroom, kitchenette, living room and bathroom. Beautiful period features and very clean and spacious! The hot water took a little time to come through but we were warned it might.

- John (10/5): Wish we could have stayed longer - The old world charm and old world hospitality The lovely Garden the Room we stayed in was enormous ! The library of books! Right in the heart of town Nothing ! The restoration is a work in progress but didn’t affect our stay at all!
- Cindy (10/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): Fabulous building, space, comfort, lovely breakfast. - The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed the fresh tomatoes and blackberries, the nicely cooked eggs and bacon. The main draw however was the wonderful old world feel to the place and the huge amount of space we had upstairs in the old “Bank Manager’s Residence”. The value was excellent and was probably the best value accommodation in our whole trip down to Melbourne from Brisbane. Phil, the owner, was also very helpful and we had a nice conversation with him at breakfast time. There was also an excellent guest kitchen so you could prepare your own food and eat it at a table if you wanted. It’s not that we “didn’t like” anything, but guests should be aware that in such an old residence, the private bathroom requires walking a short distance through a corridor, which is private but could make some people feel a little exposed. For us it was no issue. Also, if you’re wanting a modern anonymous stay (like as in a motel) then this guest house might not be what you are looking for. But if you like something with character, and to have an experience, then this is a great option.
- Roberto (9/5): - Accoglienza, colazione Nn

- Angela (10/5): Great unexpected delight! - What a delight! Great location in main street of Glen Innes; beautiful historic building; spacious & comfortable rooms; lovely breakfast cooked by host; host also very helpful & friendly. We loved it so much, that we are already planning another stay for in a few months.
- Jean-Frederic (10/5): Great stay - Great classic building. Spacious room on ground floor, well equipped. Friendly Owner. Great old school decorations and style. Beautiful backyard visible from the bedroom. 🤔
- Ethel (9/5): The comforts of home - Location in the main street was perfect. Great lunches across the road in the pub. We were welcomed by the host Phil who was a lovely wholesome gentleman and his wife was nice too. We slept upstairs in the Bank Masters room. As there were no other bookings we had the upstairs to ourselves, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lounge room, tea and coffee facilities, also huge kitchen acces downstairs. TV in room, air-conditioning, electric blankets, all the comforts of home and the attention to detail is there. Everything is spotless, even though it's old, no musty smells. I would recommend the Bank Guesthouse to a couple, group or family staying in Glen Innes 👍 All good, no negatives.
- Darren (10/5): Peaceful, comfortable, relaxed and welcoming :) - Great location, friendly hosts, felt like home from home! very relaxed vibe, historic 1800's building tastefully and lovingly restored, furnished and decorated. Spacious rooms.
We stayed in the downstairs room, with it's own lounge area and en suite bathroom, but spent more time in the kitchen and dining room chatting to the hosts! All good, would like to stay again :)

- Amanda (8/5): Great Position. - Phil the owner was super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and chatty.
Great position for exploring the area.
- Thomas (10/5): Worth “high interest”, plan for a long deposit - If you can get the ground floor suite, take it, unless it’s the end of November, when I want it…..
Phil (who sunlights as a math lecturer for a university) has made the Guesthouse a labor of love, and a haven of hospitality. He can describe the history of the building & the town.
The “chef’s kitchen” is where Prof Phil prepares the breakfasts that you order the night before on a checklist. The coffee-maker is not available for guests (it’s a complicated device) but coffee packets/tea bags/etc w/ a water boiler are all available. There’s a fridge on the upper floor, too, with the themed rooms designed by Phil’s young wife, each with a primary color scheme…
On-street parking is right outside the door, and the “main drag” is 5 steps away with shopping options commensurate with the town’s size. Phil is also very helpful with local information & can make phone calls to check on things.
Light-cancelling shades keep the early morning sun from waking weary travelers. I didn’t even have a chance to try the big-screen TV or fancy stereo. These are NOT dislikes, but awarenesses for other senior Americans:
There are steps to enter the home, but I used the fence to help me up/down. The Suite is down another step from the entrance. (I’ll let you experience Phil’s dry English humor on that issue yourself :-). )
You’ll want to reserve early: rooms are limited. If you have a color preference, let Phil know.
Upstairs rooms may have shared toilet facilities.

- Tony Cromack (9/5): Very comfortable accommodation right in the heart of Glen Innes - Very comfortable accommodation right in the heart of Glen Innes. Handy to everything. We stayed in the upstairs rooms, which were spacious. Bed was very comfortable.
- Deborah (8/5): Nice overnight stay. Phil a very knowledgeable host. - Very comfy quaint accommodation All was good
- Ros (7/5): Victorian ambience - Phil was a friendly host. Breakfasts were delicious! Large and gracious living area upstairs. Very convenient, central location The separate bathroom, some distance from the main bedroom (upstairs, superior room) and tea making facility, was inconvenient. The living area upstairs was lovely and cool but still seemed to attract flies which detracted from our experience
- Fiona (8/5): Lovely place, close to everything. - The room was spacious with a lounge area and then bedroom/bathroom. We left early in the morning (as we were travelling through) so didn’t have the breakfast It was lovely that fresh flowers/herbs were in vases throughout the room. However it impacted our hay fever and we were not breathing properly overnight. The smells are great, however not really great for people with allergies.
- Peter (7/5): -
- Ethel (10/5): Peaceful, picture perfect place to relax between days of bushwalking - We thoroughly enjoyed staying in The Bank Guesthouse. It was beautifully presented and welcoming, from the roses along the street sides of the building, to the scrupulously clean, comfortable bedroom. The renovation throughout was attractive, historically appropriate and perfectly suited to modern standards of comfort and function. The hosts were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fresh-cooked and served right at our chosen time. Such a relaxing, peaceful and pleasant stay. A great night's sleep and a pervading sense of calm and space to breath. It had been an exceptionally hot day and the rooms were a bit warm and stuffy when we arrived. They aired quickly once the windows were open, the fan was on and the air conditioning kicked in, so the problem was short term and didn't spoil our visit.
- Anne (10/5): -
