Guest Reviews
- kenneth (10/5): Friendly staff. perfect location - The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. They speak English which is great too. The location is the best around. The mall is attached and three grocery stores are close by. I have stayed here twice. The price is also very low.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Zentral. Ist ok. Nichts besonderes. War für den Preis ok
- Fabien (6/5): - Location perfect, walking distance to everything, safe also.
Breakfast simple, but nice.
Problem is wifi works only in the lobby, 0% reliable inside the room, really annoying.
- HAKAN (2/5): akan altıkat - dalarda temizlik çok kötü.duş jeli şampuan yok.saç kurutma makinasıda yo. her şey çok berbat
- Mark (8/5): - Very dated communist era hotel but clean and tidy rooms. We were very kindly upgraded to apartment room which was very nice but really did take you back more than 20 years. Breakfast was reasonable choice and you could certainly fill up for day ahead. Good location 5 minute walk from station and 10 minute walk to Triumphal Arch.
- Ben (10/5): your money's worth - economical Hotel, very helpful staff. would have preferred a higher floor with front balcony rather than back balcony. but I certainly got my money's worth. INcluding in hotel massage clinics.
- Ina (10/5): God beliggenhet - Fantastisk utsikt og sentralt, men ganske slitt. Dusjforhenget var for kort. Personalet var kjempetrivelige og svært hjelpsomme! God wifi i lobbyen, dårlig på rommet.
- Verified traveler (4/5): **hotel - Hotel is desperate for updating. I would rate it as a two stars hotel.
Breakfast is ok.
- Denis (10/5): Do it.
Balcon inutilisable (pigeons)
Pdj misérable
- Kiira (10/5): Soviet experience - True Soviet era experience. There is only few things to see in Chisinau and I think hotel Cosmos is one of them. Ask for original room since those are The best thing.
- Johan (8/5): Retour vers le passé soviétique !!! 😜😜 - Le personnel est top !!!
- asle (8/5): Moldova - Veldig fornøyd
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All reception staff, Lily, Liliana, Nastya and Gabrielle speak perfect English and helped me with everything. Yuri the taxi driver also showed me all of Kishinev and Transnistria 👍
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff, the staff, the staff - amazing. The building is tired but it does have an old Soviet charm.
- Jacek (6/5): back to the USSR - If you wish to experience USSR-style hotel, it is a perfect match. Room and the whole interior outdated and grotty. Air-conditioner in a room quite noisy. Price adequate to the experience.
Good view from the balcony. Very nice and professional staff especially receptionists :)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice and helpful staff. The inside of the hotel is ok although the outside seems clearly outfashioned
- André (8/5): Normal - Nice hotel to sleep. Poor breakfast
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel is easy to find; it just seems confusing because it looks like you're walking into the strip mall, but it's really the hotel. Front desk was very accommodating for my early morning check-in and there was a hot breakfast available. The wi-fi needs improvement, my cell phone kept kicking itself off the network and my laptop would spin at what seemed like dial up speeds at best. Signal was ok, just didn't have capacity for the traffic I guess. The hotel is old, but I found this to be better quality old than what I find in the USA. The place was clean and staff were nice.
- zaharia (10/5): very nice hotel. - very good .hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All receptionists were ever so helpful, cheerful and spoke perfect English. Hotel is well placed for the city centre.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Stella (10/5): - Sehr schönes Hotel, freundlich und gut eingerichtet
- Verified traveler (6/5): Well located, friendly staff, rooms in poor shape - Staff were very helpful, but room was in poor shape, it needed a refurbishing
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Väldigt Sovjet, väldigt trevlig personal och superbilligt
- Doris (8/5): - Wery good location. Clean room. Nice staff.
I Will be back next time at this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice and very helpful staff. Room ok
- Bojin (6/5): - Location is good and the availability of free parking is a plus. However the rooms are only partially renovated since communist times and the breakfast is boring. Cleaning is adequate.
- Frank (6/5): Cheap budget hotel in Chisinau - This was my 3rd stay at the Cosmos Hotel and the best so far. Rooms were comfortable and basic, no drink making facilities, no flat screen TV etc. The breakfast staff seemed to be friendlier than on previous trips and wanted to help us as best as they could without us having the language. As a team we certainly would use the Cosmos Hotel next time.
- brendan (10/5): - very friendly staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): unforgettable experience - This hotel itself is more worth visiting than the city of Chisinau, staying in this hotel is a kind of unforgettable experience, you can experience the soviet union style. The front desk staffs are super friendly. Two things I hate: 1) the wifi in the room is basically unusable, the Wifi in the lobby is much better. 2) The quilt is way too small, I'm 183cm and the quilt cannot cover my feet, it's winter! I have to use an additional blanket to cover my feet, it doesn't feel comfortable at all.
- Roland (8/5): - Reasonable enough for the price. Reception staff were welcoming, helpful and amusing.
- G.A. (10/5): Incredibly welcoming - The staff at Hotel Cosmos were incredibly friendly, polite and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself is a great example of brutalist architecture on the outside and functional on the inside. There may be better hotels in Chisinau but I doubt they'd make you feel as welcome as the Cosmos.
- Red (8/5): Nice hotel with friendly staff and old Soviet feel - The front desk staff are always helpful and friendly. The breakfast spread is simple but tasty and filling. Location is good, at the intersection where there are small malls, hypermarkets. Tram 28 just outside takes you to the central market bus station. Hotel itself has a nice Soviet atmosphere, with dingy corridors and decor you would associate with that era "round furry-rimmed mirror etc". Wonderful if you want the experience.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Real friendly and helpful front desk staff who would offer very useful travel and transport information that you would expect only from a close local buddy.
- Magne (6/5): - The hotel is in bad shape. It does not seem to have been fixed since it was built. Very nice staff, though.
- Petru (10/5): Very good - Very good
- Ben (8/5): Soviet kitsch - If you want luxury, head elsewhere. However, Hotel Cosmos is perfect for anyone wanting not a slice of Soviet kitsch. Dated rooms have a certain charm about them and all the staff were really helpful. During the socialist period, this was one of the largest hotels in Moldova and you certainly feel transport back to those times - probably unintentionally on the hotel'/ part - when you stay here. The breakfast is good too. For the price, location and experience, this is a great hotel.
- Daniel (8/5): reasonable economy hotel - Large soviet style hotel, modernised in parts, good buffet breakfast.
- patrick (8/5): Good hotel in the center of the city - Good hotel, within walking distance of of a few good bars and restaurants.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a buffet with a large range of food.
The bar was in the foyer and there was no problem with staying there until whatever time you wanted to.
I'd stay there again if I get back to Moldova.
- Kyle (6/5): Hotel Cosmos - This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and I have very little to complain about. It is centrally located near some nice restaurants, mini-bus stops, a supermarket, a small shopping mall, and the train station.
I had forgotten which mini-bus to take from the airport to get to the hotel, but the staff was nice enough to answer my email and provide me with the mini-bus number to take from the airport to get to the hotel (#165, price 3Lei). The staff still remembered me from last year and gave me the same room that I used the year before (it has a refrigerator). I was able to go to the super market across the street to get some bottled water and items I might want to eat while I was walking around the city or on my tours of the wineries and churches.
The laundry service in the hotel I have used a few times and the prices are very reasonable plus they will perform minor sewing repairs on clothing for an additional fee.
The staff has always been helpful to me with recommendation on where to eat and useful phrases in Russian and Moldovan.
- Eric (4/5): Great example of Soviet hospitality - The Hotel Cosmos is a fine introduction to a peculiar species in the hospitality genus: the Soviet hotel.
The hotel is not entirely typical of this species. For example, there were some friendly and helpful people working behind the front desk, even if the supervisors seemed intent on wringing unfair extra charges out of guests. The elevators worked, even if they were a bit slow and creaky. But the overall feeling of the place is quite Soviet - amusingly so if one has a sense of humor.
The lobby - which has a good Wi-Fi connection - is quite smoky. The rooms are ludicrously decorated & pretty small. The hallways are dimly lighted. The beds are about 5 feet, 10 inches long - just short enough to be uncomfortable if you are six feet tall.
Would I stay there again? Perhaps not. As it turns out, the Hotel Chisinau - which also seems to be a Soviet-style hotel - is just down the road & is a little cheaper.
- stavros (10/5): moldova - super experience , very helpful and friendly persons
- Olga (6/5): Not for International guests - The hotel reeks of cigarette smoke. Even the so-called "non-smoking" rooms, which I insisted upon, had an ashtray and thoroughly smoked through bedding, drapes and carpets. The reception area is the only place for the Internet connection but a non-smoker cannot stay there longer than a couple of minutes, as it also serves as a smokers' lounge.
Breakfast, which is included in the hotel price, is superb. However, the hotel restaurant works only for breakfast and then closes for the day. One needs to look for meals elsewhere.
There are no hair dryers or irons in the rooms.
The rooms are not cleaned every day, in fact, they are not cleaned every other day either. The garbage cans remain full, the beds unmade, towels unchanged.
The hotel personnel is poorly (if at all) trained in dealing with international guests. I was appalled by their unprovoked snide and derogatory remarks about Jews, Russians and Americans.
Overall: I would not recommend this hotel to International guests.
