Guest Reviews
- Andrew (10/5): overnight stay - overnight stay was very comfortable
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property very tired, but everything I needed for 2 nights in room and shower both worked well and had non-slip surface and grab handle - something that more expensive places often fail on. Staff friendly and helpful and breakfast was good.
- David (10/5): - Every body on site were very friendly, polite and helpful.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Nothing property was an accident waiting to happen
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet area despite being in the centre of the area.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No good WIFI in upper room. Provided a room with broken door of toilet.
- J (10/5): - Very welcoming and helpful. Great location with easy links
- Philip (8/5): - Quiet Location off the main drag was good with some nice eateries round the corner. Owners were really helpful and friendly although let down by the (forgetful?) housekeeping. The facilities and decor were somewhat in need of TLC but on balance enjoyed the stay
- Peter (2/5): Dreadful hotel - The room was tiny and very hot and cramped the overall state of the property beds an overhaul very disappointed no free parking like they advertise check out is 10.30am not 11am like the app says very over priced at £71 a night
- Jann (8/5): - Leuke accomodatie.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The mattresses were old and uncomfortable, bed sheets and duvet covers outdated needs upgrading. The room furniture needs to be changed for a modern look. Other than that breakfast was great and location was great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Ha qui was amazing there and ready whatever time you have to check in. There are microwaves, irons and spare coffee on the lower ground floor which saves your life if your travelling with a little one and need to heat up their milk.
The only problem was we slept on the top floor and the first night we had a lot of heavy rain and the window and wall was leaking.
The room was comfortable and felt like home but it was a bit dusty.
But overall it was a good stay but with a few amendments it could be excellent because they definitely deserve another star.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very near promenade and nice restaurants near by.
Furnishings and decor very tired
- Carl (10/5): Cracking rooms for the price - Our stay was great the rooms were nice clean spacious the beds really comfy the staff really friendly and helpful and a great location
- Sam (8/5): Ideal for weekend breaks. - Close to seafront, friendly staff, delicious breakfast, only negative was the wi-fi was rubbish!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Peter was extremely nice and welcoming. Great location. Breakfast for an additional £10 was good and there was plenty of food freshly cooked. Parking is normal street parking on the road. Pets are allowed. Interiors might be old, but this is a typical old-style English hotel - you know what you get.
- Glenn (10/5): Quiet good value hotel near the Wish Tower. - Nice quiet location, close to front. Easy to park, close to the theatres, tennis and central for shops and all transport links. A friendly and caring owner, we had a warm comfortable room. The decor is adequate; remember that the building is in a line of Victorian town houses - so do not expect 1970's architecture or chic design. It is clean, welcoming and a good base for the local area. We had everything we needed and no request was too much, we could have paid twice as much; and then received less service. So overall our experience was like the breakfast - very good, thank you.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - the location was ideal and free parking was available near by.
The hotel is quiet.
The entrance, the stairs and the bedroom smelt heavily of what appeared like stale tobacco. This was most unpleasant.
The bedroom which was a twin room for two people only had one chair, one bedside lamp and no table. We will not return nor will we recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Clean but needs total refurbishment - Clean but building decrepid. Won't ever see staff unless you ring the doorbell. At £33 a night for a double room very cheap but would rather pay more for somewhere better.
- John (4/5): - The hotel is old and seen better days, it is in need of a complete reburshment. It is really no more than a large guesthouse. The staff are helpful and friendly but this cannot make up for the fact that the accommodation is not up to standard. I don't think it would even get a grading.
- Jintana (8/5): - Good
- Stephen (10/5): - For price it is very good. I have been hear for five four weeks plus and it really has suited my needs which is somebody who needs temporary accommodation for a month or two. Hotel provides a £1 daily parking permit, provides two good WiFi, has breakfast, if you want it, DVDs to borrow, a pool table, a bar. No curfew on the front door. E-mails are responded to within an hour or two. Cleaners polite and efficient. Fresh towels daily, sheets changed weekly, coffee etc replenished daily. I could go on. Finally, there's always free parking in neighbouring streets and restaurants are five minutes away and town fifteen minutes.
- Dave (8/5): - Latest visit booked as an extension to my first stay. There is little to be said that would to that. In total spent 8 nights at the hotel. Room always cleaned bed made drinks supply topped up. Small bar and lounge never crowded, TV on with volume set low. 24 news channel very convenient. Nice warm cosy environment.
Great location for local attractions, town and travel.
- Dave (8/5): - Originally booked 3 nights. Added a further 5. Need I say more.
Ok it's a little tired around the edges but it more than makes up for this in its traditional approach, friendly staff comfortable rooms and it's nothing like a new build Lego block hotel.
Excellent location for public transport, the Devonshire park tennis, town CTR and the promenade.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Wouldn't stay again - See email
- Fran (8/5): Quirky and ideally placed. - Room very clean with eclectic furnishing. Breakfast excellent, freshly cooked and plentiful.
- DAVID (8/5): Night in Eastbourne - Very friendly and efficent sevice. Bed was comfortable, and ample refreshments in room. Shower could do with an upgrade. Breakfast fresh and tasty.
Very close to theatres and the sea
- Monique (8/5): Prima verblijf!
- Verified traveler (8/5): A welcome respite - A short break to visit family and explore the surrounding area. The Ellesmere is an ideal central base, close to the town centre of Eastbourne and the beach only across the road. The Ellesmere could benefit from a little tlc as it looks a little tired. However, the food is great and our hosts very welcoming. One drawback is parking. The Ellesmere provides parking permits which allow you to park outside the hotel but it is quite difficult to find such spaces.
- Stovie (6/5): eastbourne, ….
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The bed needs change its noisy
The stairs make noise
Matress terible
- Verified traveler (4/5): Sådär - Rummet otroligt tråkigt men trevlig personal och riktigt bra frukost!
- Willem (8/5): Het is hier goed vertoeven. - Schoon, vriendelijke ontvangst, prima ontbijt. Centraal gelegen bij restaurants en boulevard
- Verified traveler (6/5): Ok - It was ok. Room needed refurb. Parking was not easy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Convenient location - Was a good price. Very dated and tired but good for the price.
- BettyHill (8/5): Nice hotel close to beach, centre and theatre - We only stayed one night as we were at the theatre. Nice area good pubs near by friendly staff and pleasant room with disabled access.
- Mary Anne (4/5): The Ellesmere Hotel, Eastbourne - The listing and the web site were a good deal misleading and this is more a Bed and Breakfast than a hotel. When we arrived the so called free parking in what we thought was the hotels own packing lot turned out to be street packing where we had to buy a dialing packing ticket from the hotel owner. The front door was always locked and after check-in we were given a key.
There are some steep steps from the street to the entrance and the owner was good enough to help with the luggage. The lift (elevator) was very small and there were still stairs from the lift up or down to the rooms. Our room is cramped with old furniture and the carpets are old and dirty. The windows have limited openings and with little room for our luggage it is hard to move about the room. There was a side view of the sea and that was nice even though the weather was rough and windy. The bathroom was small, and they had carpets on the floor that were totally unsuitable for a bathroom and they were old and dirty. The old carpet in front of the toilet was looking well used and dirty.
The breakfast was a buffet and acceptable and done by the owner who was on his own and trying very hard. All in all, the value based on the price was very poor, but the place appeared as there was a NO VACANCY sign on the window. The owner was very nice and helpful, but it is overpriced, and the rooms need a serious makeover.
- Sandra (6/5): basic accommodation close to the beach - The hotel is close to the beach and the hotel offers discounted parking (£1 for 1 day, the normal charge is £1 for 1 hour between 8am-6pm). There's a lift, but for some strange reason it doesn't stop on the 2nd floor when going up (where my room was), so we had to go to the 3rd floor and carry the luggage downstairs. When going downstairs, it does stop at 2nd floor. The room itself is quite small and basic, with old-fashioned interior decoration and furniture. There's coffee/tea making facilities in the room, but the kettle is really small. I would suggest the hotel to change it to a bigger one, as it's the tiniest hotel kettle I've ever seen and you can only make 2 cups of tea out of it. Overall, it's a budget hotel close to the beach, which is sufficient for my needs.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good location - Basic accommodation in a very good location. Very friendly staff on checkout and easy car parking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - Good hotel in good position. The only bad thing was the wifi was very slow in my room on the top floor.
- Verified traveler (10/5): good hotel - great place to stay
- Dinah (8/5): - Lovely friendly B&B, breakfast wasn't bad, could do with modernisation, but overall a very comfortable stay.
- Warren (6/5): Good Budget Hotel - Great location, near to the sea front and a short walk from the pier. A bit dated but value for money. Dog friendly too. No complaints at all.
- Stephen (2/5): Small rooms. Hotel badly needs refurbishing. - Booked in this hotel as it had a favorable Expedia guest rating. Big mistake! For a start, the hotel is sadly in need of refurbishment. In addition, what was described as a double room, en-suite, was, at best, a "sub compact" room. It was in effect a single room in which they had dry-walled in a tiny space for a small shower and then squeezed in a double bed. Maybe this is OK had it been a student hostel but totally unsuitable as tourist accommodation. Upon complaining, we were moved to a twin room which had slightly larger proportions but we were grateful that we had only booked to spend one night here.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Hotel needs a serious refurb!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient, charming hotel - Really nice hotel, very traditional feel and beautifully maintained. Needed a couple of extra blankets (which were provided) because it was a bit chilly and the shower was a little disappointing. Wifi was unlimited but only strong enough for social media/e-mails not video or audio streaming.
- Tim (10/5): Good value - Quite a small room but very helpful staff and made to feel welcome
- Sue (10/5): Lovely Stay - We stayed here with our grand daughter aged 6 she loved the bedroom said she felt like a princess.
Staff very helpful. Would definately stay again.
