Guest Reviews
- Irene (8/5): Great value for money, despite lack of facilities - Nice, clean apartments with lovely views. Not far from the beach, but those steps in the heat can be a bit of a challenge! Lovely breakfast and great staff. However, the one thing that did impact on my holiday hugely was the lack of facilities re food and drink! With no fridge, kettle etc in the apartment, or even a vending machine, your are reliant on the hotel bar/restaurant being open. May have been the time of year (October), but after breakfast we struggled to understand when the bar/restaurant was open. Nowhere to keep drinks cool, and nothing nearby the hotel to get anything, once you leave the beach you are pretty much stuffed! Such a shame as we would gladly have spent more time at the hotel by the pool if we could have had a cool drink, coffee or bite to eat. The hotel is without a doubt value for money, but would certainly recommend either a fridge in the room or facilities made available to eat and drink at the property
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Too many steps to climb if you don't have a car, otherwise a good B and B
- Emely (10/5): We loved it - Very nice hotel with fresh and clean rooms with beautiful views and friendly staff. Only 5 minutes from the main beach!! The terraces were very cozy and the pool area was better than expected. The breakfast was ok. The only thing we really missed in the room was a small fridge since it’s always hot during summer, all drinks turn really warm within some minutes. It would have helped having cold drinks and water.
- Beatrice (8/5): Bello e confortevole - La posizione molto buona5 min a piedi dal mare, stanze grandi con il balcone, colazione sempre la stessa, però buona.personale gentile ma non molto socievole o informato.inglese poco e niente.
Tutto sommato siamo stati bene.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Desayuno rico. No estar mejor señalizada la recepción
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Have sent a separate review on the feedback page, listing grievances.
- Jose Luis (10/5): Muy buena opcion en Burriana - Buena ubicación para ir andando tanto a la Playa de Burriana como al centro de Nerja. Repetiria sin dudarlo.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was quite out of the way, I was only there on personal business. I would have quite liked a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities as breakfast didn't start until 9am
- Jeff (6/5): - We were disappointed in our room. It is an older hotel and had a strange smell. I would not stay there again.
- Allan (8/5): Friendly hotel at the right price - Only stayed here for 1 night as we were on our way to Gibraltar. Staff were friendly, the rooms were good as was the breakfast. You can drive the car level to the reception level and there is room to park (not too sure about parking in the summer). If you don't like steps or walking this probably isn't for you. We like walking so it wasn't a problem. Would stay again
- Iris (8/5): Look pass the dated decor and it's a great gem - The hotel was a short walk from Buriana beach. No beating around the bush, this hotel is a bit dated. However, that's the only downside. The hotel was very accommodating when we had to check in at 3am. No problems at all. The room had A/C and a fantastic balcony with great views across the valley. The balcony was very spacious and a great place to read and have a glass of wine in the evening. Breakfast was included and it was a good mix of hot and cold food (bacon, sunny side up eggs, cheese, cold cuts, cereal and fruits). They mixed up the cheese and cold cuts so it's a bit different each morning. We had a very pleasant stay and would recommend to friends.
- John (10/5): Lovely hotel in a hill-side setting - The Jose Cruz is a small bed and breakfast situated half way up the hill at the West end of the Burriana beach area of Nerja. Rooms are spread over 3 floors - ours was at the top and had a panoramic view with the sea out to the left and the mountains out to the right. The room faced west so the balcony got the sun from noon till sunset and was a real sun-trap. The room itself wasn't huge but it was perfectly fine with enough storage space and daily maid service, including fress towels every day. The hotel is spotlessly clean and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is buffet style with cereals, meats and cheeses, bacon, eggs etc. and is available in a pleasant dining room on the lower floor.
You need to bear in mind that as mentioned this is a small hotel and caters for mainly Spanish guests, so don't go expecting multilingual staff and bells and whistles. However, as long as you're realistic in your expectations you'll be happy here. The one downside it that unless you want to use your car all the time (there is on-street parking outside the main reception) as already mentioned the hotel is set up a hill, so you need to be prepared for a climb to get back after the beach. Most people will use the back entrance but although there is a lift in the hotel you have to climb a lot of stairs to get there. All in all, a very pleasant place, immaculately kept and if you don't mind a bit of a climb well worth a visit.
- Kamminator (8/5): - Large room with balcony & panoramic view of town, retro-decor with lots of wood, avocado green draperies & goldenrod bedspread, very professional & friendly staff, excellent breakfast buffet, small but useful pool. Improvements needed: mattress very uncomfortable with lots of springs felt, thin bed linens, no pool/beach towels available. Location: 10-minute walk downhill to Burriana Beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good hotel , close to beach, not far from town - Really friendly staff, and VERY helpful when asked for suggestions on things to do etc.
Breakfast was super with lots of choice from the cold buffet, although limited hot food, but typical of a small family run hotel.
Car parking was at 'front/reception' of hotel in a dead end street, so easy parking.
All rooms face out towards the west (opposite from 'reception') and ideal to sit and watch sun-sets etc.
only downside is that the 'short-cut' from the street is up a long flight of stairs!!
short stroll down to one of the better beaches, although the walk into town was a bit further. small pool and area to catch the sun if you wish.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice local place. Non-chain environment. Great breakfast and truly kind people.
- David G (10/5): Shhhhhhh....! A secret gem..... - An undiscovered brilliant gem traditionally Spanish style hotel in a quiet and peaceful location a few minutes walk from Burriana beach with its bars and restaurants and a 10 minute walk into town. Free on street parking adjacent to hotel. Wonderfully polite, friendly, efficient staff. Very clean, excellent room service, comfortable bed, great shower with plenty of hot water, large rooms with a very spacious balconies (great sunsets - west facing) overlooking villas on the opposite side of the valley. An excellent buffet style breakfast, comprising of an excellent selection of cooked and fresh dishes available from 9am to 12am. Excellent Wi-Fi throughout the Hotel.
Thank you to everyone at the Hotel Jose Cruz for a wonderful stay.
We will be back......
- Richard (8/5): Good value - A nice little hotel positioned well and excellent breakfasts
- Munners (8/5): Decent simple hotel. Pretty quiet. - No complaints. Clean, quiet, and well looked after.
More traditional Spanish than modern.
Breakfast was better than expected.
Top of a hill, good amount of steps!
