Guest Reviews
- Lisa (8/5): Two night stay. - Great location near to Bicester north station. Walkable to Bicester village & local pubs. Quiet and quaint room. Nice hot shower & toiletries. Fridge & tea and coffee making facilities. The mattress was a little uncomfortable with hard springs. The bathroom needs a bit of TLC.
- Kevin (7/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): Great location, amazing staff and comfortable. - Great location and comfortable bed. Nothing.
- Sarah (9/5): Fab hotel with exceptional food too! - Whats not to like - excellent accommodation, food and customer service
- Vietbinh (7/5): Probably better (quieter) options available in Bicester - Rooms are fine. Pretty standard for Bicester. Staff is nice and friendly. Old building. Rooms are above a bar, so it can be quite loud late into the evening.
- Paul (7/5): -
- Pieter (6/5): - Close to town center Stained carpet and fungus in shower
- Christopher (1/5): -
- Paul (8/5): Great for an overnight stay in an excellent location. - Location is ideal and is only a short jump to the M40/A43. There plenty of places to eat in the town which is a five minute walk away. The rooms were well serviced and clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. The staff are friendly and welcoming and answered my every query. The wifi was a little hit and miss and my VPN didnt like it. I prefer to tether to my phone for security purposes so it wasn't an issue.
- wye (1/5): Didnt honour booking refund refused! - I cant answer this as pub closed on my arrival to check in and all calls n knocks ignored Booking not honoured refusing contact and refund ended up stranded 2.5 hours from home at 830pm with my child night before his father's funeral!!!
- N.N (3/5): - Free parking The building is very old and smelly, and the mattress is not comfy at all! I couldn't sleep properly and I had a backache in the morning. The furniture is useless and the room's condition was such that I didn't want to touch anything. I just slept and left early in the morning!
- Jenny (8/5): - Delicious food, friendly staff, great location
- arvydas (10/5): The stay was lovely. I had not realised in advance that arrival was required before 18:00, so I arrived late, but the st -
- Dante C (10/5): Couldn’t Have Asked for a Better Stay! - I had such a fantastic stay at this hotel (it being a pub as well just made the whole experience even better) The location was really easy to get to, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the moment I arrived, with friendly locals.
The staff were absolutely brilliant, so friendly, attentive, and incredibly accommodating. They really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Shout out to Paloma for Rugby being on the telly!
The room was on the smaller side, but it was spot on, clean, cosy, and had everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay.
Happily stay here again and would definitely recommend it! 10am check out (I understand why I just don't like it haha)
- Adam (5/5): Unclean bathroom but just about passable as a stay - Nice size room and decorated well Bathroom unclean and hairs in the bed.
- Richard (10/5): -
- Chris (7/5): Great location needs a bit more attention to details. - Location is great for Bicester town center and the added bonus of having a good restaurant and pub Bathroom had mold not a great look, and despite picking a property with breakfast included informed this was a mistake on arrival and they didnt include breakfast. No comms or highlight of this previously.
- Joanna (7/5): Great location - Great location & nice to have pub below.
Surprisingly quiet A few bits of tlc would help - super lumpy mattress, some tissues/ cotton wool & a deep clean.
Noises off - mice?
Breakfasts were a bit dry & offer of fruit/ granola would be nice/ juice?
- Beverley (6/5): It was ok for our short stay as only needed room yo sleep but wouldn’t stay again - Convenience of location
Polite staff
Car park
The facilities-fan and coffee machine fridge in room
Having our own back access to room Not very clean
Toilet had urine on it and sink still had toothpaste in it carpet could do with a clean
Very creaky
Bed not too comfortable
The room was slopped
- Andrew (6/5): Good location but tired rooms with not much of a welcome. - Location No information given about how to attain WiFi, breakfast was included within our stay but again no information on when and where to go.
Rooms were ok, a bit tired and shower had mould in places. No plug sockets worked in the room so could boil the kettle or turn on the lamps.
- Christopher (9/5): Felt like staying with friends - Fantastic place to stay, great for Bicester Village Nothing
- Pat Sean (9/5): Pleasant stay in cosy atmosphere - Atmosphere and pleasant staff Parking
- Stephen Maxwell (8/5): -
- Jason (9/5): Excellent -
- Annie (10/5): - Very comfortable, staff were so nice!
- Ellie (8/5): -
- Rachael (10/5): Very nice - Lovely rustic pub Bedrooms could be better but didn’t ruin our stay
- Jane (10/5): -
- Gavin (6/5): Good staff, clean and decent, a bit noisy. - Very friendly welcoming staff. Good food in the restaurant. The room was over the bar and very noisy, which was fair enough but the noise continued very late, loud voices till after 1am.
- Tracey (4/5): Cold room and no food available in restaurant on early arrival - No food available on Sunday. Arrived at 3pm. Same morning breakfast time. Room had no heat at all and outside temperature very cold as winter. Fan heaters were supplied . Room needs updating
- Paul (9/5): - Great location and staff
- Ella (8/5): - It was a great location very close to my office as i was staying over for work, very close to centre, with a good car park which was free, the restaurant was very nice and the staff were accommodating. One issue was the floorboards seemed a bit unstable but i’m sure they were fine, there was music on until quite late and I think my room was directly above the pub so was quite loud but didn't mind too much and had been warned about this previously. The paint in the bathroom was the main issue as it was flaking over the sink and the floor and was quite messy.
- Liam (5/5): Delayed check in and dirty room — stay at the Premier Inn - The pub was right by the Bicester North train station and a ten minute walk into town. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The advertised check-in time was 15:00 — we arrive at gone 17:00 to drop our bags before dinner with friends only to be told they needed another half an hour to get the room ready.
They offered a complimentary drink while we waited but we were meeting friends so we couldn’t accept as it would have made us late. We asked if we could leave our bags and check-in after dinner. We were informed that despite the advertised check-in window closing at 22:00, there would be “nobody there” if we got back after 20:00.
We therefore had to bargain with them to let us put our bags in the un-ready room and take a key while they set the room up while we were having dinner.
We returned after dinner to find one towel (for a double room and two guests) and no tea bags. We had to find a member of staff who happily provided the missing towel and teabags - but if we hadn’t have made the 20:00 cut off then we would have been stuck.
Despite the room not being ready for more than two hours after the advertised check in time, we were not offered a late check out to make up for the lost time, instead we were expected to check out at the advertised 10:00. That’s barely 38 hours for a two night stay at over £150. It didn’t feel good value.
Also, to add insult to injury, despite the extra two and a half hours cleaning time, the room was not clean — empty wrappers and rubbish under the bed, the shower tray was filthy, the cups had crusted in sugar from a previous guest’s use — and it just generally didn’t feel clean.
The room also had no sockets for guest use without crawling under the bed or unplugging the bedside lamps or fridge.
And the mattress was very old and uncomfortable, you could feel every spring and it made for a very poor night’s sleep.
- Simon (8/5): -
- Julie (4/5): Was ok for what we needed - The staff were friendly
Bar area comfortable The room was dated and cold especially the bathroom with a stone floor
The shower was mouldy and lacked attention
No English tea bags 🙁
- Scott (6/5): - Food was good and shower pressure was good and WiFi was good Booking.com says breakfast is included in the email you get sent and when you arrive they dont mention anything about its not being included only in a small paragraph it says its a room only basis. So breakfast is not included
If I had know this I would of not had breakfast and for thag price I wouldnt of stayed there
- Angela (6/5): Nice Pub.Rooms dates but clean - great location and nice locals pub.
helpful staff. Parking was difficult but got a space eventually. The room were very dated and the furniture resembled your grandparents house. Nothing matching and very old. bed was hard and the shower room was ok but dated.
- Emily (10/5): -
- Emily (10/5): Wonderful friendly staff - very welcoming and generous - Love the quirky bedrooms
- Howard (6/5): Old Pub Excelkent Food but small limited room - Location. Food excellent along with good service and very friendly staff Room small, Partially en suite. Room could have possibly been redesigned more appropriately within in an Old building.
Breakfast only served Fri-Sun Not available for us despite Booking.com stating included but Plough Web site made it clear it would not be available. Similarly midweek Restaurant menu is more limited. Suggest restricted menu contributed to excellent quality of what was served.
- Victoria (4/5): by pass - the shower was hot & powerful
greeting staff were lovely bed was MEGA uncomfy, hard & could feel every spring, mattress far too thin
found empty wrappers, bottles under bed, stuff in drawers & ?? red/brown stain on bottom of sheets
over cleanliness was seriously lacking
- Ffion (7/5): Value for money, but you get what you pay for. - The room was cosy and functional for the cost. There was very little noise considering we were above a very very busy pub.
The location is easy to walk to from Bicester North Station and is great for wandering into Bicester. When we arrived we were told they had no room for us to eat or drink with them during our stay which we thought was a bit poor. We had breakfast there the next morning and it was subpar for the prices being charged.
- Tarja (7/5): -
- Frances (10/5): - Really lovely room, above a great pub with a central location. The room was clean, with all amenities. Perfect location for a stay in Bicester! Nothing
- Steve (3/5): - The room was a good size.
It was cheap, last min booking for work stay. Heating hardly worked, manager said he turned it up, made no difference.
WiFi didn't work in the room
Room pretty tired looking, bathroom very poor, needs a refurbishment. Its ok as a stop over for a night for work, but that's about it. I wouldn't go back by choice, rather pay a bit more elsewhere.
- Roy (1/5): Cold - Location Very disappointing and frustrated that my complaint has fallen on deaf ears despite contacting the property twice!!
Room was clean and bed was comfy
There wasn’t any heating in the bedroom. The temperature outside was below 0’c and the room was freezing. I had to wear clothing in bed to try and keep warm. Despite my efforts I had very little sleep due to the cold!!
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Erik (6/5): Great, stylish location in the center of Bicester - Stylish pub/bar with authentic rooms. Locartion is close to the center in Bicester and not far from the pedestrians area. It was not clear if breakfast is serviced or not - in fact it was not. Stairs are quite narrow for elder people (not a problem for me but for a colleague travelling with me). Pub was audible in the room, but it closed at 2200, so no peoblem.
- Adrian (7/5): Quintessential Pub with friendly staff - Good location
Quirky
Friendly No breakfast
Could do with some modernisation
- Wendy (9/5): - Great hotel beautiful food and staff amazing No plug sockets near the bed thats only reason I lowered score but excellent and would thoroughly recommend
- Sarah (7/5): shame breakfast not included - friendly staff very helpful was bit drafty but they had spare blankets so was okay
- Ian (8/5): Nice place excellent food in a great location. - Lovely place in a great location. I was surprised the pub close at 2030 on the Sunday.
- Chris (10/5): -
- Jenny (9/5): - Very welcoming and friendly, very accommodating and helpful. Good food too. The room was clean and comfortable and was perfect for our one night stay, thank you Emma and team. There wasn't anything we disliked.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Ash (6/5): Was good, just wish there was a way to warm the room up more/extra blankets and the bed wasn't so uncomfortable - Very picturesque, great decor and really well equipped room. Was very, very cold and the bed being quite old was very loud when moving in the night so wasn't a comfortable nights sleep.
- Stephanie (6/5): - Clean towels and coffee making facilities The room had tired decor and was in need of refurbishment for the price £108 for one night without breakfast.
- JOHN (8/5): -
- meurig (8/5): -
- Carol (6/5): Bicester - Good location Very small-ensuite.
- Irina (10/5): - We stayed at this hotel for just one night, but the experience was very warm and pleasant. Huge thanks to the polite and caring staff. We also loved the decor and atmosphere of our room. Everything was very cozy!
- Laura (8/5): Lovely place, great atmosphere. Would stay again. - The friendly atmosphere and the fact that it is not part of a big chain so it felt more personal.
Evening meal and breakfast were both superb. Really small niggle. The location of plug sockets in the room. For example we had to boil the kettle on the floor which wasn’t ideal.
- Lily (10/5): Great location, room and staff - The staff were really friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and the bed super comfy!
- Amy (8/5): -
- chris (7/5): Cute pub - The room was really lovely and the pub very nice too. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and is in desperate need of replacement
- Inderjit (7/5): -
- Simon (8/5): -
- Rebecca (4/5): - Unfortunately i paid for bed and breakfast but discovered in arrival tha tthis isnt provided any more
I spoke with a member of staff who said he would investigate as this is an issue with third party sites but unfortunately didnt get back to me and staff were available in the morning
- Rebecca (7/5): -
- fox (9/5): -
- Matthew (8/5): A lovely place to stay in a very well decorated pub / restaurant but slightly lacking anywhere to charge your phone - The property had its own parking and easy access from 3pm onwards . The pub was very nice and had a few cosy spots . The Room was very comfy with a nice size bed and plenty of space around it . I would say 90% Clean which in an older building is more than acceptable. Staff were all very friendly . Unfortunately the restaurant side wasn’t open on the day of my stay but I knew this from the info provided . I stayed in room 1 which was right at the top of the building and the only fault I can say is there’s an extreme lack of sockets for charging a phone or plugging a laptop in . Only one double under the bed and not reachable which the bedside lights are plugged into and another which serves the tv and mini fridge so the only option is to unplug either the tv or the fridge .
- Chris (8/5): -
- Louise (3/5): -
- Ed (6/5): Overpriced stay but friendly hosts - - Very friendly family run pub and staff
- Good central location - Poor value for money. £110 for 1 night with no breakfast.
- Room tired and beds very squeaky
- Music played until 1.30am and then kitchen staff had music playing under the room first thing
- No shampoo or shower gel. The dispenser was empty
- Gaynor (7/5): - Loved the decor. Staff really pleasant No food available!
- Annabel (10/5): - Great location and the staff were incredible! Breakfast was such good value for money, we can't recomend it enough :)
- David (8/5): -
- Andy (8/5): Lovely room in great location - Lovely room in a great location (nice easy walk into town centre), and really friendly, welcoming staff. Breakfast was also fantastic!
- Charlotte (8/5): - Clean and perfect for a few days when attending a wedding at a nearby venue
- Chris (10/5): Idea for Bicester shopping then great food and drink. - Local Pub feel. Very friendly staff. Quirky old building. Lovely courtyard. Great beers on offer. Great wine. The wine glass freeze unit was especially wonderful. It frosts the glass. The detail to making the drink and food present well was spot on. Nothing.
- Cathy (10/5): Brilliant stay - lovely, enthusiastic team - Georgia and the team provided a continental breakfast, which was brilliant - as cooked breakfast is only served Fri-Sun There wasn't anything which I didn't like, as although parking was limited - the team ensured I was able to park on site
- Donna (9/5): - Lovely pub with great food. Had a leak in the bathroom from room above but all sorted then following morning. Didn't mar my stay. Food
- Antonio (5/5): -
- Ali (9/5): -
- Jonathan (8/5): Enjoyable break in a well located property - Location and friendly staff Room was a little tight
- Anthony (10/5): - Property was great. Welcoming staff, great food. Only slight issue was that Expedia hadn’t communicated with the property about the breakfast inclusion. Not a problem for us, the staff were really helpful, but not great from Expedia.
- Donnelly (10/5): The plough - It was so comfortable, cosy and welcoming I recommend the plough to everyone travelling for work, bicester village shopping or visiting friends. Such friendly staff and always happy to help. I had to go home lol
- Ayla (10/5): Lovely welcoming went above and beyond for us beautifully place and staff were perfect x -
- Lionel (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (7/5): Brilliant stopover for the train station. - The location to the train station was our main reason for choosing The Plough. Also it was within walking distance to the small village restaurants etc. The coffee cups were a generous size. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. You could feel the springs. Thought it was rather expensive for what was offerred.
- thomas (6/5): Good location - Tiny toilet area , shower mould all around
- Susan (3/5): We have now been in Europe in England for over 2 1/2 months and this was by far the worst stay anywhere. If you’re c - The breakfast on Sunday Just about everything else. The most disappointing was paying for breakfast and not getting it on the Monday and when we complained we got a box of stuff on Tuesday but I couldn’t eat it because I’m gluten-free which I had mentioned to them many times. My feeling is they’re more worried about the Restaurant and are not so worried about looking after people staying. The restaurant is not open every night either so we had to go out for dinner twice. We were told that they would be a refund due to the fact that we’ve got no breakfast but we have not heard anything from management. Given other people‘s comments, I don’t believe we will hear from them because they have our money and they don’t seem to care if they don’t supply What was paid for that is breakfast.
- Alice (4/5): Nice pub but visit soured by £50 unreturned deposit and dusty rooms - The food at the pub was nice and the bar staff were helpful. The rooms are a bit outdated and the amount of dust was disgusting. It needed a new carpet and a really deep clean to make it acceptable to guests.
The main issue we had was that the Plough took a £50 deposit from us on arrival (first weekend of June). I was surprised to have to pay a deposit, it’s not ideal and seems unnecessary.
The deposit was never returned to us so I phoned up and was advised it would be sorted.
I never heard back. I then emailed them and finally 6 and a half weeks later we have got our money back.
They claimed they thought the money had already been returned to us, I asked why then they didn’t follow up to check it had been returned (it hadn’t) AND apologise for the inconvenience.
I had left my number with them so they could have easily contacted me if they genuinely did think the money had been returned and were sorry for taking our money.
I feel disappointed with this and the apology was not great or seemed to understand the severity of taking £50 from a customer for over 6 weeks.
If you have recently stayed here please please check your deposit has been returned!!
- Sagacious (5/5): Two night stay - The location and parking. No towels on arrival, no breakfast tray delivered Thursday, overcooked items on breakfast Friday morning, location of sockets not compatible with electric kettle.
- David (10/5): - Made to feel very welcome - nice local pub in a nice market town - couldn’t ask for anything more!
- Fiona (10/5): Very friendly helpful staff, clean and well cared for rooms it was a lovely place to stay. - The staff and owner were just lovely. Very helpful and friendly. We had an evening meal there and it was delicious, with giant portions. Really appreciated being treated so nicely and well by every staff member we encountered.
The rooms were spacious clean and comfortable and we slept very well. It's a shame there was no breakfast offered during the week when we stayed.. The evening meal was really good so I suspect the breakfast served only at weekends would be as well
- Elliot (10/5): Exceptional - Room was clean and comfortable. Mix match of furniture but it's old building. Bed comfortable. Meals good . Friendly staff. Disappointed in the breakfast . 1 plug socket for whole room .
- Chris (8/5): Very good -
- Happy (5/5): Nice pub, shame about the price. - A proper English pub, with excellent friendly staff and, a very good extensive evening menu. A rather expensive one night stay with, breakfast not included.
- Philip (3/5): Poor - Comfortable bed. Socket location under under the bed not within easy each, 2nd socket behind dressing table. Room needs a refurb, paint peeling and mold in the ensuite. Room not made up or replenished as they said they would but didn't very poor.
