Guest Reviews
- Beth (6/5): - Staff was very friendly however our room smelled like stale cigarette smoke. Beds were comfortable it was just the smell that really bothered us
- Marsha (8/5): - Staff was great. The hotel is easy to get to. We were provided helpful suggestions about the many dining options nearby. The hotel is old and the rooms are small, but fine for an overnight stay.
- Lyn (4/5): - I was very disappointed in my room. It had an unpleasant odor and wasn't well maintained.
- Anuta (8/5): - Small hotel with limited rooms. Is ann d hotel but owner is very proud of his property. Was clean and we had a good sleep however, you get what you pay for.. coffee maker was in room, shampoo, conditioner, but no hairdryer. Can tell owner takes pride in this old hotel. Would not hesitate staying again.
- Jeffrey (2/5): - Dingy place… should be half the price
- Urban (10/5): - The staff member who checked me in was very friendly and told me several scenic places to visit near by.
- Dennis (10/5): - It was all I needed. thanks.
- Donna (6/5): - Ok motel, but VERY old & not updated.
Nothing much else was available. No breakfast like I saw in one listing.
- William (6/5): - Carpet dirty and overall a dank feeling. Bathrooms were nice and clean.
- Dawn (8/5): A hidden gem - Great place to stay. Nice people and the rooms were clean and had everything we needed. We would highly recomend this motel.
- Guy (8/5): - Like always I have forgotten another name, but the man running the show was really nice and very helpful. Came in soaked and dirty on a cycling trip and he offered to dry my clothes or take me to a nearby laundromat if needed.
- Paul (10/5): - This is an older property, but the room was clean, nicely furnished comfortable bed with a convenient location.
- Daniel (4/5): - 2 beds on the reservation site means a bed and a couch. Had to upgrade to get 2 real beds. Desk person did it for free. Beds were terrible. My brother said it was the worst bed he had ever slept on. The toilet seat and cover were held on by1 bolt. Room was not ready when we arrived at 340p. Desk person said it would b a few minutes. It was 2 hours! I really don’t know how this place got a 4.3 rating.
- Ruth (8/5): Beautiful area - It was a good price and perfect location. An older motel so what was expected for the price. Person who checked us in was very helpful and informative.
- Curt (10/5): - This property is definitely like my normal hotels that I usually stay at, but thought I would give it a chance. It is an older property, but is very clean. For me, it was just a bed and shower that I needed, and it was good for me.
- Austin (10/5): - Great vibes
- pat (8/5): - Property was close to shopping. Bed was excellent. The price was too high
- Molly (10/5): - This is so close to the Michigan info center so it was easy to get info for our trip! The staff were friendly and welcoming. If you’re looking for a clean and cute mom and pop motel this one is great!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean room,
- jim (10/5): - very old and dated, but clean and everything works so far. i just need a room to crash for night, didn't want to pay $200 plus so tis place fit the bill. its a 1 night stay, period.
- William (8/5): - Friendly staff. Dated rooms, but clean. I simply needed a place to sleep and that’s all. Would want something different and more modern for a vacation experience.
- Melissa (6/5): - Staff was great and checkin was easy. It is clean it is dated and a little rundown.
- Pattie (6/5): - Listed that continental breakfast was included in rate... there was no breakfast service. Please update your site info.
- Joanne (6/5): - The room smelled like skunk or pot
- Gary (10/5): - Very cozy and comfortable! Will definitely stay again.
- Lillian (6/5): - Very dated but reasonably priced for the area
- Kurt (8/5): - This is a very old motel. However, my room was very clean. Looked like it had new carpet and everything worked. The bed was comfortable and the owner is very accommodating. If you're just needing a place to sleep, this is a great spot.
- Harvey (8/5): - Value for the price. It was adequate and had everything I needed.
- Lynn (4/5): - The room was clean and simple. The faucet in the tub/ shower was inoperable; the manager agreed to a rate adjustment to compensate.
- David (8/5): - The staff were friendly and professional. The room/properly were clean, but dated. It could use a remodel. For a motorcycle trip or snowmobile base, it would be excellent.
- Thomas (10/5): - Very accommodating. Originally reserved for 1 person but at the last minute my brother came and was able to stay with me at no additional cost
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The owner was very accommodating, even though our arrival time was well passed the time the front desk closed.
- Kim (6/5): - Floors were dirty, shower was missing its handle, tv didnt work at first but it finally did about an hour after we got into the room
- Evan (10/5): - Clean and quiet . Could use a little update but all in all not a bad spot for a night
- Augie (8/5): - Like the motel. Carright outside door. Older motel. Well kept. Clean, quiet.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Older motel, but very clean, neat and nostalgic
- Dawn (10/5): - It was a very pleasant stay. The gentleman who checked me in was extremely nice. The room was clean, quiet and provided a good one night stay at very reasonable rates. I would stay here again if I was in the area.
- Sean (2/5): - We arrived at the property around 9:30 pm and found a very dirty room. We ended up keaving the next day due to the unclean room. There was mold in the bathroom, the bathroom door looked like it had never been cleaned, lamp shades were dirty and torn, the ceiling was dirty and looked like they drilled a bunch of holes in the tiles, there was some sort of liquid stain on the cedar walls, and worst of all the sheets weren't clean. I tried to get a partial refund since we were supposed to stay two night but only stayed one. The owner refused. If you have kids stay away from this motel.
- Melanie (8/5): - Was a nice room. Hotel needs updating but was ok for an overnight stay for the price. Owner was very friendly and we appreciated that.
- Terri (8/5): - It was ok
- Gabriela (4/5): - Old and dusty
- Walter (6/5): - They provide the tiny soap "cookie" that is virtually impossible to open even with my very strong finger nails. You must use a knife or scissors. For this reason, I would not stay there again and this seems very guest unfriendly.
- Jeremy W (6/5): - I stayed here for one night last fall when I was passing through which wasn't to bad and decided to stay again in a different room. Unfortunately for the rate, the quality of this particular room and the property in general is starting to look rather detiorated, lacks a good deep cleaning, and trashy and is definitely in need of some serious updating throughout.
- Daniel (10/5): Ty - It was nicer than ive been in
- Angie (10/5): - Outdated but that’s its charm! Bed was very comfortable. Very clean and very nice people.
- CINDIE (8/5): - Comfortable, convenient, affordable.
- Cheryl (10/5): - The owner was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. We would stay there again!
- Gerhardt (4/5): - Pictures are deceiving, trashy looking outside, guy was helpful.
- Gerald (8/5): - Just a basic place to sleep.
- Dawn (10/5): - The owner was very helpful and nice. Very retro!
- Ted (10/5): - It was a great stay. The owners and staff were very sociable, pleasant to deal with, helpful every day and personable. Great staff.
- George (8/5): - 1960 motel run by family which is better than it looks. The beds were very good, the temperature control was good; the bathroom was tiny but clean, the towels almost threadbare; poor parking lot and entrance condition, somewhat poor sound insulation. The owner is outstanding in service.
- terry (10/5): - This is an older 17 unit motel that has been nicely updated. The bathroom had new wall tiles and flooring. Nice big showerhead and new taller super flush toilet. I loved that they kept the retro pink sink and tub! King size bed and wall tv...we watched the Olympics last night. It was immaculate. The rate was a bargain. I always like to stay in these smaller motels, not a fan of the big chain ones. And it's all on the ground floor and you park in front of the unit. The night before we were at a chain and the elevator was not working and we had to haul our suitcases up to the second floor. We are retired and way too old to be doing that! The Royal Motel was perfect for us.
- Eric (10/5): - The WiFi system needs work. This is a key item for business travelers. It should work all the time, every time.
- pat (10/5): - Over all it was great
- Jayden (6/5): - Not bad
- James (10/5): - Clean and quiet. Owner is very welcoming and friendly. You can tell he really cares how your stay goes. I would highly recommend for those traveling with kids that need a clean and safe place for an overnight.
- Larry (8/5): - I forgot to ask for the WiFi p/w. When I remembered it, the office was closed. Would suggest it be placed in the rooms on an information sheet. Nice amenities.
Bath was clean, bed was clean and comfortable. Floor needed vacuuming. TV was difficult to operate. Minor items. Easy fixes.
- Pamela (10/5): - Would stay again. Clean and everything in perfect working order nothing fancy, but decorated nicely. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable.
- Ruth (8/5): Quaint hotel. - I love the quaint atmosphere- feels like a 60's hotel. Unfortunately the bathroom rug, the bedspread, the curtains and carpet LOOK like they're from the 60's! Clean but stained and SO worn!! Please update your property, or change your price to $50/ night, which is what a "worn hotel" is worth.
- Alan (8/5): - the price was right
- Leon (8/5): - Shower water pressure was very low..Dated room but comfortable and clean.
- James (10/5): - Very clean and unique.
- Gary (10/5): - This was a nice place to stop for the night. Its a basic roadside motel that is quiet and clean. I would stay again.
- Adrianne (8/5): - A convenient location and a friendly owner. Great place to stay on your way up to the UP.
- Tim (6/5): - No water. No air conditioning. Broken door lock. Bed was worn out and just sagged. This motel should be torn down and Expedia should remove it. I don’t want to pay them. HORRIBLE
- Mary (8/5): - Host was great! Room was a little tired, but clean, and we had a good sleep. As in most of our trip, this TV also did not work, but we were so tired, a book then an early nite! Good wifi.
- Terry D. (10/5): - This is an excellent property and I will stay there again.
- Todd (8/5): - Comfortable bed, pleasant and affordable stay.
- LEE (10/5): - Clean, curteous helpful staff, access to outdoor recreation.
- Lynda (6/5): - Old motel basics there but that is it. Clean comfortable enough bed.
- Thomas (10/5): - Bathroom needs remodeling but he showed me he is in the process of doing that with other units
- LAWRENCE (8/5): - It was the best value in the area.
- Pierre (8/5): - Nice place to stay one night.
- Chad (10/5): Best Cheap Motel, Ever - This is the best cheap motel I've ever stayed in, and I've stayed in a lot of cheap motels, lol. The owner is a very kind man (with a very sweet cat) who puts a lot of heart into this old motel. The rooms are immaculately clean, all unique, and have a lot of character. It has a homey feel. It's not much to look at from the outside, and we almost didn't stay here, but I'm glad we did.
- William (6/5): Decent Overnighter - Typical older motel: small bathroom, small TV. But nice table in room. Nice refrigerator and microwave.
Very close to major highway, not freeway.
Helpful owners.
- Randy (8/5): - This is an older property that is being worked on. After a long day on the road all we wanted was a clean quiet air conditioned room. The first room we were given had a faulty A/C unit in it and we were given another room that seemed much fresher and working A/C. All in all not a bad place for road tired travelers.
- Elsie (10/5): - As the website said, we called ahead when we knew we were going to be late check-ins. Once we got there, check-in was easy and quick. It was a comfortable night's stay!
- karen (8/5): - It is a nice hotel. very clean, made me feel at home. new carpeting, convenient to many things in the area.
- Wendy (2/5): - Inexpensive, handy, easy to find, nice manager who tried to make everything nice for us.
The room was musty and cramped. We turned the air conditioner on to clear and cool the room. Two hours later it was still musty and not cool.
We called and got the last available room at the AmericInn.
The Royal was tired and stained. I didn’t mind the outdated part. I’m sorry for the manager - he tried hard.
- Joel (10/5): - Clean. Comfortable. Rustic in a good sense. Comfortable beds. I'd stay here anytime.
- Paul (6/5): Getting old - I am surprised at the 8+ rating that this motel has on Hotels.com. It's not a bad place, just not worth an 8+ rating. This motel is old, and in fair condition.
- john (10/5): - Great Value. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Manager/Owner was friendly, helpful and generous. After a long day on the road this pit stop was a welcoming surprise
- maria (10/5): - Just amazing so amazing the people the atmosphere everything as long as your not a karren!
- Cathie (10/5): Cute and inexpensive place to stay. - This was a cute inexpensive hotel for our trip. We will definitely stay here again when we head to Michigan. It was cute and clean reminded me of hotels that my parents stayed at on their honeymoon. Bed was very comfortable. Owner was very helpful and friendly!
- Krehl (8/5): - Some WiFi issues, but managed a workaround, otherwise an excellent overnight experience. Thank you!
- Krehl (10/5): - Comfortable, clean and convenient for our quick overnight stay.
- Ken (8/5): - A good basic room, fast internet, and plenty of tv channels.
- Roger (10/5): - Definitely a motel. Have been staying here for years. Always clean. Outdated classic.
- Gerald (10/5): - Fast and friendly check-in.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Rooms and hotel is simple, but always great staff and very clean.
- Mary (6/5): No heat - The room was ok. Very dated and the carpet was pretty dirty. We were not able to figure out how to turn the heat on so we went to the office. Oh they forgot to tell us that the heat was out in that room. No other rooms available so they gave us a space heater to use.
- david (8/5): - It looks older on the outside but inside it was very clean, had great tv channels, a fridge, microwave and internet. We returned there on our trip home
- Douglas (10/5): - Very nice experience for the age of the property. Very clean. TV worked, no issue with the remotes. Water pressure was good & temperature as expected.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - This was a very quaint motel. It was a very clean and the owner was very nice and accommodating.
- Eugene (10/5): - The Royal is a step back in time that has been updated with the modern amenities. The room was clean and quiet and the owner very amiable. Be sure to say hello to the greeter cat.
- MODAR AL (10/5): - Friendly customer service . Very good for the price you pay .
- Lois (10/5): - Cozy and comfortable
- John (8/5): Comfortable Stay - Pleasant stay. Spacious room.
- Daniel (10/5): - Great motel/hotel. Good staff. I didn't get the WiFi password which was inconvenient but overall it's a lovely hotel.
