Guest Reviews
- Gloria (4/5): - I was soo disappointed with this place! The staff were lovely, especially Jason( thank you)
The bed had animal hair all over the sheets, it was cold dirty paint work tatty carpets paint falling off inside the shower! Generally not very nice and welcoming, in fact made my skin crawl! I arrived late and couldn’t go anywhere else! Although I did try the other 2 hotels I could walk to, one was full the other over £140 and I had already paid £60!
I slept in my clothes coat and socks!! The mattress springs poked even through my coat
I would not recommend this to my worse enemy!!
- Jason (2/5): - Plaster falling off the bathroom wall, mould, dirty room. No connectable wifi. Music at a ridiculously loud level until nearly midnight. Faulty shower rail. How this is scored at 7.5 good on Expedia is beyond me.
- Michael (8/5): - shops nearby and plenty of cafes as no food at bukeley parking was was ok staff were pleasant room was dated put clean and tidy
- Malcolm (8/5): - No hot water apart from shower, otherwise ok
- Sankaranarayanan (10/5): - Good
- Shelley (2/5): - The accommodation is above a noisy pub. Extremely loud music went on until midnight. So loud the bedroom vibrated. Shouting and arguing from the people in the bar ensued once the music stopped, which went on until 12.30 - 12.40am. If it wasn’t the music then it was the football on with everyone shouting in the bar, this went on before the music started.
Accommodation was dirty, beds worn out they were so old. One flat pillow each. Mould in shower. Stains on beds. No housekeeping. No toilet paper.
Rooms accessible from fire escape. Cigarette ends everywhere outside. Literally hundreds of them. Didn’t feel safe here, couldn’t wait to leave. Property doesn’t do any breakfast or food which is probably a blessing due to the uncleanliness.
THIS SHOULD NOT BE USED AS ACCOMMODATION DUE TO NATURE OF THE BUSINESS.
EXPEDIA SHOULD NOT BE LISTING THIS, IT SHOULD BE TAKEN DOWN IMMEDIATELY.
- Colin (6/5): - We just needed a room for the night
- Mez (10/5): - Excellent value for money. Facilities were basic, as expected at this end of the market, but everything was as it should be. Lady checked me in was polite and friendly. Due to very short duration of stay, didn't have much interaction with staff.
- Alison (10/5): - I liked that it was in the heart of the Menai Bridge, close to shops restaurants/take-aways..
Monday night so it was very quiet in the pub downstairs.
Helpful, friendly host
I got the room at a bargain price
Telly, tea/coffee making facilities, clean towels, private bathroom, hairdryer, clean
Perfect for a short stay
Thank you
- Verified traveler (10/5): 5/5 - Comfortable room, really lovely lady checked me in.
It was noisy at closing time (people outside) but that's out of the hotel's control - the room was above a pub, so to be expected.
Clean, nice cup of tea, lovely shower - it was a comfortable room and I will definitely book again for future trips.
- Stephen (10/5): Great stay.. - We had a great time here, the accommodation was ideal, it was local to the Menai Bridge and plenty of places to eat and drink.
- Joanne (8/5): Good, affordable accomodation - Had trouble finding the pubs car park, as SAT NAV takes you to pay and display at back of pub. But ran inside and a really friendly staff member directed me there.
She was also lovely on check in.
Pub on good, central location to the town and nice little walks by the menai straits available.
Room clean and tidy, with the basics you need.
- Sinnathamby (8/5): - Clean
- Nina (8/5): Good location, easy to find, and friendly - Lovely atmosphere on Saturday night!.
Warwick lives through the small door.
- Jan Nicholas (10/5): - Clean and comfortable. Central position in attractive town. Parking to the rear. Helpful staff. Good value, recomended.
- Bryan (6/5): - First the positives, the pub is very central to Menai Bridge, on the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Mon). The indoor public area is quite attractively furnished and decorated, and the bedroom was large and well appointed, and the beds were comfortable.
However, the positives were let down by the bathroom. When we arrived there was no plug in the wash basin, there was no hot water, the sink tap was not fixed properly and the light in the shower wasn't working. I tried to contact the manager via the bar staff to discuss these points, but she never appeared. (This is why the staff and service has been given only three stars; the bar staff were very pleasant and helpful,) However the hot water reappeared next day and a temporary fix to the plug problem was supplied by one of the bar staff.
Next the window of room three, which as far as I know is the only one to do so, overlooks the outside seating area, so it can get noisy, especially Saturday night.During the day, thepub is closed and access to and from accommodation is via a steep fire escape.
Finally, this is on a room only basis, despite the claim on the front of the building to be offering bed and breakast and I found no information to point this out on the web site. However there is a good selection of cafes, pubs and restauraunts nearby, so you wouldn't go hungry.
Pity really, this could be an excellent place to stay, with a higher star rating, if more attention were to be given to detail.
- Alexander (6/5): - The service and staff are great, but did not realize this is above a pub. So can get quite loud until its shut.
- Christopher (2/5): Noisy at weekends, be warned - Sadly no mention of loud music until late on the hotels.com app. I gather it did mention it on the details in the room, but there weren’t any in my room. Power tripped at 11pm, couldn’t be rectified that night so offered me another room until they realised I’d booked for 2 nights. Ended up boiling a kettle and having shower in another empty room. To be honest partially my fault for booking a room at a pub. But it would have help if hotels.com listing had mentioned it’d be noisy until late at weekends.
- David (2/5): Not great .... needs some TLC and more effort. - Not great unfortunately .....
Dirty sheets (food staining on the top of the duvet cover)
Noise from the bar TV until after 11
Would not book again
- Lisa (6/5): Don’t waste your time and money - Single bed headboard not attached hits wall radiator not working so cold 1 pillow so stiff neck. Noisiest pub ever if you want sleep before midnight don’t even think about it.No towels. Back stairs out are fire escape stairs not for children or anyone unstable, I banged my knee on rails getting down slowly.Their parking is around the back 3 spaces rubbish everywhere dark alley, no way !!!!! I paid and used council parking
- Scott (4/5): - Within 1 minute of arrival the toilet seat fell off the TV was broken, reported this to staff who was aware of these issues!! Couldn’t fix the TV but did give me a fire stick but had to fit it myself- massive buildup of dust behind tv !
Plaster falling off the wall , was told there was live music finishing at 11 but it went on to midnight, an email telling me that when I booked would have been the right thing to do
Room ok but overpriced
Ideal if you are a contractor but definitely not for the leisure users
- Neil (8/5): Nice place - A nice friendly welcome, the room was light and airy. It needed more pillows and the sink in the bathroom needs some attention
- Jessica (6/5): - I think some of the reviews are a bit unfair. Yes the WiFi doesn’t work and neither does the TV. It’s also the noisiest pub in North Wales. But there is a car park, it’s clean and my single room was £50. Bargain.
- Jacqueline (2/5): - The room was cold, no heat from the radiator. Informed the barman who said it was fixed but it wasn't. Only one pillow, toilet paper ran out, kettle water tasted strange, and late night access was via the fire escape stairs. Not even sure there was staff on site after 10pm. Very discomforting.
- Emma (6/5): Bulkeley arms - The stay was ok, the heating in the room didn’t work for a while so it got rather cold plus our window was broken which let a draft in we tried to fix it. The door to the hotel uses a fob at the back it didn’t lock anyone could have entered. The twin room tv didn’t work in the room it also sits directly above the music speaker in the pub which is ok but not at 1.30am where the music continued 🤔 The staff were very helpful.
- EDWARD (4/5): - FREE PARKING AVERTISED WAS EITHER COUNCIL CARPARK WHICH WAS FREE ONLY AFTER PM OR STREET FREE AFTER 6PM.THE PUB FREE WIFI WAS DOWN HAD TO USE THE FREE COMMUNITY WIFI.NO CHANNELS AVALIABLE TO WATCH ON THE TV AND THE HEATING WAS OFF ALL THROUGH MY STAY SO ROOM WAS COLD.THE LANDLADY WAS LUKE WARM NOT A REALLY FRIENDLY WELCOME.
- Julie (6/5): No Food - for one night it was fine. I like staying at pubs but this surprised me as it was a NO FOOD pub. No evening meal nor breakfast which I hadn't noted when booking. Pub isn't manned in the morning so you exit via the fire escape.
- Ian (6/5): Room in need of decoration. - I was warmly welcomed and shown to my room. The room is dated and in need of decoration. A Seat stool was unsafe and needs screws tightened. The shower body was empty. Also the pub advertised and had pictures of food but stopped this some weeks ago. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. In the morning a woke up to a strong smell of sewage.
- Darren (10/5): - Good value for money. Slept well.
- lee (10/5): - Was OK for the price
- David (8/5): - Friendly staff, checked were we on our way, guided us to free parking
- Martin (8/5): - Property had character. Comfortable clean bed.
Room had television control gadget but no television.
The pub closed down at 8.00pm Tuesday and I got locked out.
- Daniel (8/5): - Did what it said. For the price, absolutely can't complain.
- Pete (10/5): One nights stay. - Ideal working stay - I arrived fairly late after work but was greeted by a welcoming barmaid who sorted check in etc. I'd imagine there's more background noise on busier nights/weekends but it was acceptable enough for me with a pool team finishing up their games in the bar. Bed was comfortable enough and everything functioned as it should.
- paul (10/5): Excellent stay - Excellent stay for 1 night as we were visiting Dylan's restaurant 2 mins walk away. Check in was excellent, was busy in pub but lady behind bar was very professional and very helpful explaining everything we needed to know. Room twin was very clean and lovely. No issues with noise from pub. We had drinks and sat in area outside which again was lovely. Highly recommend this pub for stay. Close to everything in menai bridge
- John (4/5): A few issues… - Very basic. Hair on bedding. No hot water in hand basin. No free parking in spite of saying this was available on hotels.com. The fob was temperamental and it was difficult to get into the building at 11.30. Shower was ok. Price was much cheaper than other hotels available.
- Miss E A (8/5): - I enjoyed my stay but i would like to see have restaurant in this areas as there is no restaurant of my choice so i had to take away meal as the place where i stay, they do not cater the evening meal and breakfast as well
- philip (10/5): - Room, parking, accessability, staff all brill, even slept thru the music downstairs - only downside was woken up 12.15am by 2 members of staff having a row in beer garden below our window!!!
- Christine (8/5): - The room was ok we slept fine bed comfy & clean, yes there was music but I zoned out of it & slept ok. What I don’t understand is why Expedia didn’t mention the pub didn’t open until 5pm and we couldn’t check in!!
- Amy (10/5): - Just one night stop over. No complaints
- Philip (10/5): - Exactly what we needed for a retreat for our boating trip.
- Phil (10/5): - Solid pub accommodation
- Wendy (6/5): - It was acceptable but certainly not worth the price
- Stuart (8/5): - Brilliant location
- Nicholas (4/5): - Ruff and ready pup
- Richard (10/5): - Friendly, welcoming check-in.
Room was spotless.
Bar was very reasonable priced, and a great atmosphere.
definitely will stay again!.... ta
- Miles (10/5): - Its a great place. Great atmosphere.
The town has lots. But if you want a breakfast its dependent on the shops opening. You will start your day hungry.
Dont bring food in as it will set off the alarms
- Aoife (6/5): - Check in and check out were very easy. Staff were friendly, we had everything we needed for a short stay. The room was less than perfect regarding cleanliness, the carpet in particular was very dusty and stained and probably needs replacing. But overall an enjoyable stay.
- Ian (2/5): Bad don’t stay avoid - Not acceptable
- robert (8/5): - using the emergency exit as access after the pub shut was a little difficult when it was cold, ice on steps? Car parking is difficult unless you can beat the locals to a space. Bed room radiator did not appear to work, bathroom door squeaked, outside street light shines straight into room. I only used the room from 10 pm until 6-30 am so no time to resolve any of the issues. NO Food on site but some nice places to eat nearby.
- robert (8/5): - A journeyman's hotel with some parking problems. No food on site but local facilities are good
- Teresa (8/5): warm & welcoming - warm and welcoming
very comfy bed - slept like i was in my own bed
knocked a star off due to very poor wifi - needed it for work stuff - once that gets sorted easily a 5 star
- Howard (8/5): - Room was clean and good facilities. I couldn't get the Wifi to work at all and pub can be a bit noisy late at night which didn't bother me. Good late night access once pub is shut. Staff were great.
- Lynne (6/5): Good for a cheap overnight stay. - Staff member was friendly and showed me to the room, explained access when the pub was closed and checking out. Room was a little tired, but generally clean and bathroom was clean and modern. As it was a weekend, the pub had a band playing until midnight, which you could hear, but did not disturb me overly. Bed was comfy and I slept well. Checkout wasn't until 11am so had plenty of time in the morning.
- Justine (8/5): Lovely room over a lively pub - The landlady was very friendly and the room was lovely, very nicely decorated and comfortable. The only minor issue was a broken blind in the bathroom. This is a lively pub and as it was bank holiday weekend it was particularly lively. We watched football in the pub and the locals were very friendly.
- Paul (10/5): Great for us on a weekend break - We knew it would be lively from the website and reviews, and it was which was a bonus as we like a good time(which we had in the bar on Friday night ;). When we got back to the room on Saturday night we watched movies until midnight when everything quietened down for a good nights sleep.
The owners and bar staff were all very friendly and welcoming.
The room was very clean with plenty of clean towels. It was nicely decorated with a fresh modern feel. A couple of extra high level windows really gave it an airy feel and let in extra light.
- Catherine (4/5): - Very noisy until midnight...loud bar music.
Chatter outside. Thought it would ease at least by 11... But got louder it seemed.
Don't stay here if you want a quiet Break
- Louise (8/5): - Room was clean and comfortable. Noisy at night until around midnight, due to it being a pub.
- Kayleigh (2/5): Vile - Wasn’t informed of loud music untill we arrived as it is NOT stated on there site. it was like having a subwoofer under the matress., room was filthy. No food being served, drugs being taken. Had to leave the same day. £95 down the drain
- Paul (6/5): - Well positioned hotel with free parking.
No breakfast available, as stated.
Music was playing downstairs till midnight, all quiet by 00.30.
If you like an early night, you will struggle staying here.
Room was clean, fresh sheets and towels.
- Kenneth (8/5): - The Hotel is located in the Centre of Menai Bridge
Lots of shops / cafes etc on the doorstep
- Trisha (6/5): Cheap, friendly, noisy, no breakfast - It served it purpose, cheap and close to where we were going. No breakfast, very noisy, no hot water in sink, shower ok, bed well worn. Stool to dressing table leg broken, blinds missing in bathroom so people can see you!! Cheep, clean and able to come in and out without going through the bar. Music and noise from bar was way after midnight then cleaner was moving furniture loudly at 8am..
pleasant staff.
- Roger (6/5): It was okay - The room was warm and clean, but the shower room curtains were non functional.
Alos, because I was leaving by 9am the next day, the heating had not cut in by the time I left, which meant a shower was out of the question
- Verified traveler (4/5): Not sure where to start - The positives..... free parking available on pub carpark. Child bed quickly made up when they realised they had forgotten!
Now for the rest...
Room needs tlc... wallpaper worn where headboards /furniture has rubbed it and coming away from wall in places
Window latch broken which means it doesnt shut properly.... big issue with cold weather and noise from drinkers outside... could hear every word of conversations
Plug missing from bathroom sink, shower light doesnt work and is very dark due to encloses by wall
Despite radiators being turned up full did not get above luke warm!
Then there is the noise from the pub..... dont get me wrong we expected some noise but this was awful, at one point we thought people were banging/ramming the door to get in but on checking they must have been banging the walls or ceiling downstairs to the music.
Could not get any tv channels to work. Tried re-tuning but even that didnt work.
Finally just to warn any others staying no food served at all in this pub
- Veronika (2/5): - Terrible experience loud music and vibrating base non stop right underneath our room. Absolutely disappointed drive for 3 hours to reach the destination and could not get any sleep. Was told room would be ready at 12 but had to wait 30 minutes till room would be made for us. Only twin bed available after being told s choice between twin and double
- Andras (8/5): - A traditional bed and breakfast, essentially rooms over a pub. Good atmosphere with friendly staff. In a great location in Menai Bridge, with multiple restaurants within easy walking distance.
- Alison (6/5): - Not brilliant just ok very noisy music playing in the bar until 12 o’clock tv in outside seating area directly under our window very loud wouldn’t want to stay more than a night
- Nick (6/5): - Booked a room with a king size bed but the room came with two single beds which wasn’t great also the room was very cold , shower was very small with poor pressure and the kettle was dodgey and had to be held down for it to boil ..
- Rosalie (10/5): - Very welcoming and helpful. Comfortable nights sleep and great shower!
Useful key fob for access.
- Marcin (10/5): - Staff were kind and helpful. Rooms nice and tidy. Comfy beds, nice bathroom. Definitely recommend 👍
- Oliver (10/5): - I stopped for one night with
- Simon (10/5): - Loved my stay. The regulars were friendly. & the cider... think it was called rosey pig, what a pint. Great location. Thank you
- Phill (6/5): - A bit tired needed updating.
- Philip (6/5): What a shame! - Basically a small town pub with 3 rooms over the bar area. Good greeting by the host. Rooms quite nicely presented and practical. The host advised, after we prepaid, that it would be somewhat noisy until midnight but nothing could have prepared us for how very noisy it was.
Loud disco music and raucous singing! Sleep not possible until it stopped at midnight. I do believe Hotels.com should have advised that a) It was a pub and not an hotel and that any good points, of which there was a number, would be negated by the terrible level of noise. We feel let down by Hotels. com.
- Sam (8/5): Worth a look! But could be improved. - The look of the property was fantastic very pretty and cute.
The staff were very friendly & I enjoyed my stay very much.
The room was very nice lovely and clean and bed was nice too but it was quite compact so I struggled to move around a bit.
The biggest issue I had though was the checkout procedure, there was no one at the bar when I checked out which was very concerning for me as I’m a highly experienced traveller and have stayed a a lot of hotels since Lockdown ended.
If this was because of COvid due to lack of staff then I would understand but for me unfortunately it was not ideal at all.
- Lynne (8/5): Helpful staff and free parking - Helpful staff and friendly welcome. Nearby free parking available. No breakfast on site but plenty of venues in Menai Bridge to choose from.
- Arlene (4/5): - No heating on the first day and night, had to get heat from a portable heater the next day and night. On leaving with our luggage,we could not get out of the front for at 11am so had to go back upstairs and go down the fire escape.we are both 79years old and my sister had just buried her daughter. Not nearly good enough.would not stay there again.Only positive the beds were clean.
- Audra (6/5): - The property was a bit tired and very noisy at night time. The waste bin in the bathroom had not been emptied, the toilet was not very clean and there was only a very small amount of toilet paper.
As we was only there for the one night and was out most of the time the bathroom issues where only noticed on departure.
- Lesley (4/5): DISAPPOINTING - We were disappointed with the fact there was no food available, which it advertised on the Web site prior to booking. Nobody emptied our bins, renewed towels or checked if we needed anything. It was advertised as a hotel but it is just three rooms over a pub!! Friday evening they had a karaoke night which continued until gone 11.30pm, with the speaker on the wall outside our room. Saturday night there was a live music night, same scenario. Our break in Wales was marred by this experience. They need to update their website because under the trades description act, they are sadly failing.
- John (10/5): Cost room and great location - Well decorated and clean room with plenty of space right in the centre of Menai Bridge. Good location to visit the sights of North Wales
- Barry (6/5): - Stayed for 2 nights. Cycling around Anglesey nice place to stay
- Anita (6/5): Cheers and gone - It was OK, cleanliness was OK, it was quite as hotel just reopened ok, for what it was
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and comfortable, considering it is a pub there was very little disturbance at night.
- Gary (8/5): happy guest - room was clean and tidy bathroom had been refurbished and was very good unfortunately the kettle didn't work and there was no hot water to the sink in the morning, not end of the world stuff. would definitely stay again good value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was ok
- Wendy (10/5): Comfortable room in a great location - Hotel is within easy walking distance of the Menai Bridge and a perfect location for a stay not too far from Zip World in Snowdonia. Our room was a good size, and clean and comfortable, and upstairs from the bar. There are plenty of places to eat very close by.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - .
- Gill (10/5): Nice room. - A lovely little room with everything we needed. Well worth it.
- Steven (2/5): - Absolutely terrible room cold dirty razors left in the shower the lady who checked us in had a very bad attitude if you like to stay in a hostel that’s what it might as well be
- Jill (10/5): - Really accommodating owner great location great value for money
- Verified traveler (4/5): False Advertising - A place to lay your head but not much more. The room is nothing special but does the job. However, it’s advertised as coming with free parking and breakfast but doesn’t come with either. There’s a council car park you can use but this obviously costs. On arrival we enquired about food and they said “we just don’t do that here”, so why is it advertised that they do and why is breakfast included within the price of the room?
The lack of breakfast and having to pay for parking makes this stay less cost efficient - when you add on £20 for breakfast somewhere else and a fiver in car parking fees you may as well stay somewhere nicer that works out at a similar price.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Stated on website check in was at 4pm, was told to wait until 5pm.
Mould in the room and bathroom. Didn’t do food, even though the website said they did. No soap in the shower, had to unattach soap dispenser from the sink. Breakfast was included, no one was available for breakfast so had to go elsewhere. Next to no parking in, only space for 4 cars, which after staff leaves very little room. Won’t be staying again, not impressed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Little noisy until closing time but you're above a pub!!
- Tony (10/5): Good for solo bikers - No fuss. Awesome room.
- Michael (10/5): - Wasent expecting it to be a nice as it was we will deffo be returning there one day 👌
- Mrs V A (10/5): Central stay - Clean room, quiet, good car park, central location, convenience store over road, helpful owner.
- Nicholas (10/5): Great place - Great place, good value for money. Staff was friendly and efficient, would recommend! Very close to good hikes in Snowdonia too.
- Dilys (6/5): not good enough - clean room and facilities and comfortable bed, but no heating on most of the time even though it was December. No lights outside the rooms and no working light in the shower. The complimentary continental breakfast consists of white bread, spread and preserves, milk and cereals. But the socket for the toaster had been taken up by a plug for Xmas tree lights and there were no plates to eat the toast from. Of the two pints of milk left in the fridge one had completely gone off.
Others have commented on the noise from the pub below, but if you know about that when you book that is fair enough - what is not fair enough is a wall so paper thin that I could hear the chap in the next room's phone conversations and TV no doubt he could hear my TV also. I was in room 1, the single room.
- Marc (6/5): Disappointing - Advertised as free breakfast this turned out to be a toaster outside room and a table and a loaf of bread
Room was not cleaned when out in day and tale not replaced in fact no one came to room £60 a night
Premier inn same price and far better
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Central heating in bedroom not working, breakfast facilities poor, not even enough bowls for cereal in the morning,no body explained how to leave property if you were checking out early
