The staff and the service was beyond expectation. A special mention to Jamie from guest experience who helped us arrange our taxis, our dinners and made us feel very welcome. He was extremely attentive and really went above and beyond. We highly recommend this hotel, it is worth the pricy rooms.
- Culture777939 (10/5): Wonderful Four Seasons experience - Four Seasons Kyoto exceeded my lofty expectations for a Four Seasons hotel. Beautifully-designed contemporary facility and wonderful historic garden. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, quiet, spotlessly clean. Location is satisfactory - we could walk to major areas (e.g., Gion and Shinkyogoku shopping street) but Uber is also readily available and very easy to use. Staff and service are outstanding. Staff greeted me and my family members each time we entered the lobby and asked if they could assist with anything. Within a couple days of arrival, the hostess at breakfast knew us and addressed us by name (remarkable considering how many guests she must see every day). Food costs were on the high side (not out of line for Four Seasons) but many local dining options are readily available. If I visit Kyoto in the future, I would not look elsewhere for lodging.

- 939aloud (6/5): Every Annoying Little Thing - There is a lot to like about the Four Seasons Kyoto, but there were major missteps in customer service. Firstly, I scheduled two tours through the hotel. I was looking forward to the Kyoto at Dawn tour because I wanted to beat the infamous crowds. The car for the tour was a 1/2 hour late, defeating the purpose of getting my family up early. (Not to mention the guide was nice but lacked any historical knowledge). Pro tip - use Context Tours, not the Four Seasons. I use them in every country I go to. No apologies were offered until I mentioned it at the front desk. (The concierge was aware because they were frantically calling around trying to find us ride.) They offered to refund $120 - utterly ridiculous considering that I lost valuable time at the shrine and spent around 18k at the hotel. After, I expressed that it wasn’t about the money but the experience and how disappointed I was - they offered to refund a total of $350. Again, not adequate for the initial lack of apology, poor outcome etc. and amount of money I’m spending at their hotel. Other missteps, the front desk calling me after 10:00 PM at night to tell me about a room charge and “oh, also to see how your day was.” Why are you calling me this late? Especially about a room charge if we aren’t checking out for days. Other annoying things, room service wrong 2 out of 2 times ordered. Every little customer service interaction I had was just so annoying; this is a shame because my favorite hotel in the world is Four Seasons Geneva. I’ll end on a positive note. The maiko performance and music at night were excellent. The breakfast was pretty good and the setting was very pretty. Nonetheless, the whole experience was subpar. I recommend looking at the Ritz or Park Hyatt.
- Timalnick (10/5): Elegant Hotel With Excellent Staff and Great Food - An absolutely gorgeous hotel within walking distance (about 1.5 mikes from lots of great shopping, food, etc of Kyoto. The hotel has an amazing backdrop with bamboo, a pond with Koi and other plantings and a great little gym. I highly recommend this hotel although it is not budget friendly as it is a Four Seasons Hotel

Elegant, luxurious, sublime. Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Etienne the Head Concierge is so good at his job, and the cultural activities held in the lobby add a lot to the overall experience.

- sheyingermany (10/5): The Minority Report Hotel - they know what you want before you do - After the disaster in Osaka with the Ritz-Carlton, this was a very welcome change. This is likely one of the top 5 hotels which I have ever stayed at. The service - impeccable. Room - impeccable. Location - great. Breakfast - room for improvement. Our normal room was large, aesthetically one of the most beautiful I have stayed at, and the attention to detail, shockingly good. We have been members of the Marriott Bonvoy for ages and have consistently stayed at Ritz-Carlton, JW, St. Regis and am a member of the Leading Hotels of the World but after a few bad experiences with the Marriott hotels and lately with the RC in Osaka, we have decided to ditch the membership loyalty and go with privately owned hotels like the Four Seasons. The benefits of these loyalty programs is a sham and if you want to enjoy your vacation, go with private. This Four Seasons is what one would not only expect considering the price and reputation, but they attempt to exceed it at every turn. From the locally sourced turn down treats to the Japanese Gatorade (Pocari Sweat) outside their sauna/ Ofuro area and swimsuit centrifuge, you have the feel that they are not cutting costs where they can to please shareholders, but to provide their guest with a memorable experience. That is something that RC has lost and feels like the corporate monstrosity which we felt. Thank you Four Seasons - even without a loyalty program, you have now gained a family of loyal guests. Bye bye Bonvoy!
- Trvlchnnl (8/5): Fell Short, but best option in Kyoto - So after staying at the Four Seasons Tokyo Otemachi, we were expecting a lot from the FS Kyoto, especially since it was much more expensive for a standard room than what we paid for a suite in Tokyo. PROS: Good location, very nice architecture that tries to blend into the surroundings Room layout (we were in a Heritage Garden Deluxe Room) - the bathroom was very nice, wet room style shower and tub which was cool and unique. Housekeeping was really good. Welcome amenities for our birthday(s) and anniversary, very nice touch. Bed and sheets were comfortable Concierge pre-arrival was extremely helpful in setting up tour guides with transportation for our Kyoto tour and for Nara day trip. CONS: Arrival experience was CHAOTIC. Nothing serene or calm upon arrival here. Our luggage was transferred by the FS Tokyo Otemachi the prior day to the FS Kyoto and the concierge teams had texted via WhatsApp and included me on the group chat that our bags were on the way. I knew they were there since 10am the morning of our arrival because our apple tags showed they were at the hotel. When we checked in I asked if our bags were in our room and was told they had not arrived at the hotel yet. I explained that they were at the hotel and they debated me, but I had no choice but to wait for them to deliver them once they "received them". My tags were showing them on property since 10am. It was 3pm. It took them another hour to find them and have them delivered. FS Kyoto dropped the ball here. Breakfast was disappointing. Great selection but all the dishes that are hot on the buffet were luke warm at best, mostly cold. Dumplings, fried rice, eggs, bacon, everything was cold. I mentioned to the server and they brought out a kitchen or line cook and they checked the hot plates and shook their head. This happened 4 days in a row. I just asked our server to bring me or reheat the food. Very unlike any FS I have been at. Also, it was so busy, it felt like Disney World, and the floor manager was berating the servers in front of us for not cleaning the tables fast enough, etc. I did give this feedback on their survey and to the credit of the hotel, the GM reached out right away to apologize for the breakfast issues and for falling short on other things, but I told her it would not deter me from staying here or recommending this hotel as I believe it is the best in Kyoto. Just be prepared as Kyoto gets insanely crowded.

From the moment we arrived, the warmth and attention to detail were off the charts. Xienna greeted us at check-in with the kindest energy and personally walked us to our room—such a thoughtful touch that immediately made us feel at home. The hotel itself is beautiful, that serene garden setting right in the middle of Kyoto is pure magic, but it’s the people who elevated everything. Kathrine at the concierge deserves a medal. We have this family tradition of bringing my mom a Christmas ornament from every trip, and she came through in the clutch by finding us a perfect one when it seemed impossible. We were beyond grateful—she handled it like it was the easiest thing in the world. She also helped with incredible recommendations for dinner every night. Not once did her recommendations miss. Thank you Katherine! The spa was unreal. Amu and Yuko gave us the single best massages we’ve ever had anywhere. We left feeling completely renewed. Every single morning at breakfast and during the strawberry afternoon tea (which was incredible—those fresh seasonal treats were next-level), Tomomi took such good care of us. She was efficient, always smiling, and honestly one of the nicest, sweetest people we’ve ever met. We genuinely looked forward to seeing her every day. The guest experience team—Imena, Laura, and Nana—were always one step ahead, quietly making sure everything was perfect. Yuri, the front office manager, was so warm and on top of every detail. Even the valet team stood out. Shoki helped us with all our transportation and pointed out that the cab we took had one of those ultra-rare four-leaf clover emblems—apparently there are only four of them in the entire city, and they’re considered good luck. We definitely felt the luck on this trip! The entire staff made us feel truly cared for, not just served. Thoughtful, personal, and flawless from start to finish. If you’re going to Kyoto, this place is a must. We’ll be dreaming about coming back. Huge thank you to everyone—you made our stay unforgettable.

Dinner at both the omakase restaurant and the main restaurant was excellent. The hotel is spacious, peaceful and beautiful, especially the garden. The rooms are older but quite nice and well designed. Some maintenance could be better such as cracked stone in the shower which might lead to water issues and mould on the grout in the basin and run off condensation pealing off the paint at the base of the windows.

- XMstever (10/5): An amazing experience - We stayed here at the end of almost two weeks in Japan and this hotel was over the top in every regard. Our rooms were excellent and the balcony overlooking the lake was a wonderful place to relax. The food was superb and the breakfast buffet was one of the best we have experienced anywhere in the world. The staff was friendly and incredibly helpful. The only negative is that there are not that many places to eat within walking distance, but the two that we found were superb- cash only- no one spoke English- only chopsticks- we sat at a counter and watched our meals prepared. The quintessential Japanese dining experience. Highly recommend this hotel. Not inexpensive, but worth it.

- Trvl8176 (10/5): Exceptional Property - This is an exceptional property in an exceptional city. Although it has many rooms, the hotel had a boutique like feel. The hotel lives up to the high standards for luxury and service I have come to expect from most (but not all) Four Seasons properties. The garden is breath taking and they gave my children food to feed the fish in the pond, which they thoroughly enjoyed. They gave us a free room upgrade on arrival to a two bedroom, two bathroom suite, which was amazing. They also left lots of incredible treats in the room for our arrival. The only slight negative is that we had dinner in their restaurant one day and thought the food was mediocre at best and took a long time to be served. The breakfast they served in the same restaurant was much better. They had a lot of people the day we had lunch and so perhaps they were just over-stretched.

- JDinCoMo (10/5): Warm, Personal Luxury in the Perfect Kyoto Location - We really loved this hotel, especially the location, which was close to many of the sights we wanted to see. While it did not feel quite as exclusive as expected, it absolutely delivered on luxury, and what truly set it apart was the personal service. Everyone we interacted with felt genuinely warm and approachable, more like friends than staff, without any sense of pretension. Our room was beautiful and overlooked the koi pond, which added a very calming, distinctly Kyoto touch. The tea ceremony was a highlight of our stay and is highly recommended. Breakfast at the restaurant was also excellent, and the small details, like providing printed taxi instructions with our destination, really stood out and made getting around effortless.

Best in class service from the concierge to guest services to front counter teams. Stayed in the One BR Premier Heritage Garden Suite, my kids loved it (huge living room & dining areas & super cushy double beds). View from room is the beautiful hotel garden with autumn changing leaves at the time of my stay. Food quality in hotel stays consistent to the Four Seasons global chain branding. Made some external restaurants bookings with the concierge help, it was effortless & efficient. Thank you for the awesome service, my family had one of the best hotel experiences here at Four Seasons Kyoto.

- BenH892 (10/5): Exceptional Property, Even Better Service - My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. From start to finish, this is one of the best luxury hotel experiences we’ve ever had (and we felt compelled to write this review because of how amazing the visit her was!). Before we got to Kyoto, the hotel concierge did a great job of assisting us in making dinner reservations when our first choice kaiseki restaurant was fully booked. They gave multiple options and were very knowledgeable about the food scene. Throughout our visit, they consistently made food and drink recommendations that were not tourist traps, foreigner-friendly, and most importantly delicious. The hotel property is also unreal—the pictures online do not do it justice. The rooms are centered around an 800 year old pond filled with koi. There is an artificial mist created over the pond each morning to quite a stunning effect. Both the gym and spa floors have unbelievable amenities. The spa floor men’s changing area has an onsen with a dry sauna while the fitness center has a steam room. We appreciated having access to both. We were also lucky enough to be at the hotel for one of the twice-weekly Maiko performances in the hotel lobby (they do these on Tuesdays and Saturdays). Where the Four Seasons Kyoto really shines though is the exceptional level of service. We had some confusion about how we could use a gift card we received as a wedding present at the beginning of our stay and the initial room we got (overlooking the pond from the top floor) was unfortunately adjoining another room with two very young and very loud babies. The manager Yuri went above and beyond in making things right for us—we were moved to a gorgeous one bedroom suite (!) on the same floor with an even better view. Yuri also personally escorted us to our room and had the staff leave little treats for us, like a bottle of champagne, hand made tea and some delicious snacks (including a pumpkin tart on Thanksgiving Day!). Throughout the stay, the staff anticipated our every need in big ways and small. Cannot overstate how blown away we were by this visit. We hope to be back very soon!

Four Seasons Kyoto will elevate your trip in a way that I doubt any other hotel in the city can match. The hotel’s facilities and activities — from feeding the koi fish, to the kimono experience, the Maiko performance, and more — allow you to enjoy many of Kyoto’s “must-do” experiences right from the comfort of the hotel itself. Speaking of comfort, as expected from Four Seasons, the rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and incredibly relaxing. The service, however, is what truly sets this hotel apart. Every member of the staff is warm, friendly, and genuinely eager to help. You can feel that they sincerely want you to enjoy both the hotel and the city. Throughout my stay, I had several requests, and every single one was handled quickly and perfectly, making my entire experience flawless. From our communications before our arrival to the moment we sadly had to leave, the experience was exceptional. The entire staff was caring, kind, attentive, but not “stuffy” as some five-star hotels can be. The hospitality was warm and welcoming, the accommodations and common areas were immaculate and comfortable, the food was delicious, and the garden was a delightful respite from the busy outside world. Beyond that, my husband and I were there celebrating our 30th Anniversary, and the staff made our stay extra special every day. Before we arrived, I reached out to the concierge team about getting tickets to the Gion Odori show happening on the day we arrived. I was having a bit of trouble with the translated website. They stepped in, helped me understand, and proactively shared other geisha and maiko opportunities we might be interested in. Once we ordered the show tickets, there was some confusion about whether they had been delivered, and they went to the extreme of going through the ordering process themselves to help us figure it out. Similarly, when I asked about the Takkyubin service I had read about, they explained precisely how it worked and how they could assist us. We so appreciated their help and expertise. It eased our stress so much! Once we arrived, it only got better. We were treated to a room upgrade, an anniversary treat, and humble kindness at every turn. Every day, we were amazed at how exceptional the service was. One night, we arrived late from a day trip and had just missed the maiko performance in the lobby. When Tina, one of the servers in the bar, heard that, she actually ran down the stairs to catch the maiko before she left, so we could at least get a picture. When my husband mentioned he liked the little snack trays in the bar, the staff helped him find out where he could get them. Smiles, laughter, and warm greetings abounded at every turn. We cannot rightfully express how grateful we are to the entire Four Seasons Kyoto staff. Every single member of the team, even those behind the scenes that we never saw, worked hard to ensure we had an exceptional experience. It is, hands down, the best hotel stay we have ever had. Thank you to the entire staff – you made our experience truly the trip of a lifetime!

Beautiful property with courteous and friendly staff who went above and beyond to accommodate needs. I was lucky to have my birthday while there, and the concierge helped my husband find and plan a memorable and delicious celebratory dinner in town. He was delighted with their follow through as well. Also, my spa experience was relaxing and peaceful, which was needed at the end of a trip. We did have breakfasts, dinners, and cocktails while staying there and the attention to detail was appreciated since they accommodated gluten free requests. Rooms were also spacious and quiet. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

We received great service and welcoming, and we even received an upgraded room. The team of the reception noticed that we preferred a different location for our room, and they found a perfect location and room type for us, which made us very very happy and satisfied. In addition, the concierge services helped us very much, especially ms. Chihiro Shinoda and ms. Hatsune Enomoto which helped us a lot to resolve two different problems which occurred during our stay. Complaints would be that the door to the toilet doesn’t stay closed well and has a large crack between door and wall so limited privacy. Toilet paper is quite thin and rough for a four seasons. Dessert options at morning buffet are limited but the fresh bread is great.

They sent us in a downpour to a different restaurant where we had to walk blocks to hail a taxi by stopping one in the street. 4300 yen later and back at hotel with a no cancel restaurant charging me for a dinner we never got even smell, the hotel Consierge Manager Kim took us to the main restaurant, apologized and said to enjoy dinner comp on the hotel. When the bill came, my wife and got the full meal charge. One would hope today, a new day, would go better - right? We get seated for breakfast, both order coffee, orange juice and eggs' and hit buffet for fruit and yogurt. By the time we got back to our booth, the staff seated another couple in our spot. 20 minutes later, no orange juice. No eggs. No breakfast. Training in this hotel is truly pathetic.

- 236erice (10/5): Luxury Retreat in Kyoto - The staff at this hotel are among the best I have seen. You expect a high level of service at a resort like the Four Seasons but the team at Four Seasons Kyoto seem to be genuinely friendly while providing amazing service. We got engaged on our trip to Japan and we arrived to beautiful room decorated with engagement balloons and decorations! The concierge team was amazing and had activities scheduled for every day of our stay, their recommendations were excellent as was the planning. The rooms are nicely decorated, very spacious and comfortable. We had a garden room and it is definitely worth it. The 800 year old garden is an ideal view to look out on while staying in Kyoto. The hotel feels more like a resort than a city hotel because of its secluded feel and gorgeous garden contained in the property walls. This was ideal for us as we preferred this relaxing location to a typical downtown city feel. Its like an oasis to come escape the city feel after exploring, and a quick cab ride has you anywhere you want to be in the city.
