Guest Reviews
- Lisa (6/5): - Clean bed and friendly staff but old, outdated motel. We just needed a place to sleep so it served it's purpose. Thought it was priced too high for what it offered.
- Jose (8/5): - Our landscape crew stays there. They say it is nice.
- Richard (10/5): - The beds and air conditioning made for a good nights sleep.
- Rasa (10/5): - Welcome retreat from furnace like heat, I enjoyed the air conditioning and comfortable bed.
- DAVID (8/5): - The room was quiet and clean with a comfortable bed, but there were a few features that needed repair.
- Melissa (10/5): - Great staff, clean and easily accessible rooms, conveniently located just off the freeway. Thank you!
- Nancy (8/5): - The office wasn’t open, had to call number to get someone to check in. They charge you daily. Nice and clean, except for the chair had stains. No mirror in bathroom, no coffee pot. Has Internet, but have to ask for PW. No cafe, no ice machine. Staff was nice. Nearest food is 4 miles west to Casino.
- Stephanie (8/5): - M
- Janet (8/5): - The room was clean and comfortable. Even though people livethere, it was great for the night.
- Rigoberto (6/5): - Old hotel good for a night sleep
- Sallie (4/5): - We had no waste basket. The internet password would not work and there was noone in the office. I telephoned the number that was attached to the office door, but got a recording. There was a coffee dispenser, but no cups. Very frustrating after paying a premium $138. The plus was the beds were very comfortable.
- Keith (10/5): - Nice
- Abate (10/5): - Very convenient
- Yvonne (10/5): It was very convenient for us - We needed something close to Campo and this fit the bill. The staff was excellent. Room could use some upgrading, but all in all, for this location, there are really not many choices.
- Virginia (2/5): - No one answered the office door or phone. I had to drive another 50 -70 miles to find another motel.
- Lisa (4/5): - No shower curtain, no and cs in bathroom, room was clean but run down, as was outside areas. This hotel needs to reture
- Oswaldo (10/5): - Clean. Great bathroom. Great king size bed. Highly recommend
- Mary (8/5): - The best part was Thelma, the front desk reception manager. She’s wonderful - friendly and kind. I’d go back just to see her again!
- Edward (8/5): Good for the location. - Overall this was a good stay. The room was very clean and comfortable. The building is a bit old, but overall well maintained. Staff was great.
- Shawn (8/5): - Not bad
- Rabee (10/5): - Pretty modern and nice motel with very hospitable staff.
- Svetlana (10/5): - Surprised good Hotel
- Cindy (10/5): Clean and comfortable - Staff was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay. The beds were very comfortable.
- Alex (8/5): - This is an old motel that needs some remodel just next to the freeway but super clean, staff were super friendly and accommodating, bed was comfy, plenty of parking and good hot water. Will stay again if needed.
- Svetlana (10/5): - Very clean. Friendly lady at front desk.
- Gerhard (10/5): - Check in very friendly, room very clean. simply a great stay.
- Svetlana (10/5): - the hotel surprised us with its cleanliness. very nice staff on front desk
- Jeff (8/5): - I've stayed here three times now. It's always clean, and the beds are comfortable. It's also one of the few places to stay in the Boulevard area and inexpensive. I'll continue to stay here.
- Kim (10/5): - I loved this hotel! The people who ran the hotel were extremely kind! Felt like home and we were family! The room was so clean, comfortable! Thank you!!
- Jerry (4/5): Underwhelming Experience - I booked the motel for business reasons due to proximity to my client appointment and because there were very few options.
I will not stay there again. The motel is older, run down and obviously doesn’t get a lot of business. It was inexpensive, but one of my business associates’ rooms had no toilet paper and the door to the outside looked like it had been forced open recently.
The other associates’ room looked like it had been slept in and had a half empty bottle of water in it.
My room was okay, but the stairs up to the room were cracked and questionable as to whether they would support weight.
Staff members were generally unavailable and while they had a coffee maker in the lobby, the office that contained the coffee maker was locked and inaccessible. The only two positives were proximity to my client and the bed was comfortable.
- Mitchell (10/5): - Everyone's is super cool not a lot of people around which is cool for us!!
- John (8/5): - I
- Marty (10/5): Great quiet area and pet friendly too. - Great quiet place. Was perfect for the area of our visit. Was dog friendly and he enjoyed the stay too. Would stay again on our next visit.
- Patricia (6/5): - Close to event
- Juan (6/5): - I was able to park my 70' long tractor trailer.
- Sergey (8/5): - Not bad for this area.
- BEN AND TINA (2/5): - Asked us to sign a blank check.
- William (10/5): Would definitely stay here again! - Very nice & cozy place, Freeway convenient yet secluded. In a mostly wooded area. Clean, no bugs, free coffee in the lobby, would definitely stay again!
- Robert K (6/5): - Bed was way way too soft.
- Rhonda (6/5): mountain stay - The room was dingy but the bed was comfortable.
There was no coffee maker or hair dryer.
The TV worked fine.
- Nelson (4/5): - One of the most quiet places I ever stayed I liked that everything else is just a regular motel 6 out of 10
- Cortney (2/5): - I had a few problems at checkin then once i got to my room found it dirty, changed rooms it was clean but ended up goin to the office 2x because of these problems. The tv and phone didnt work. I just got off work and was tired. Was it worth $104.98 for 1 night u ask? No. No it wasnt
- austin (10/5): - Very clean room when I got there, service was excellent. Definitely would stay again
- Deirdra (6/5): - I knew I was staying in a lowbudget hotel, so my review is based on that. The stars would be lower if I thought I was going to a Westin or Four Seasons.
It was a roof over our heads in the middle of nowhere and I was grateful to have it. The staff was very nice. Everything was clean and in working order except the toilet, but as soon as I let them know, they put a work order in to have it fixed.
- Rosa M (10/5): - A little old looking but clean
- Wade (10/5): - Surprisingly nice place I would stay again
- Jeffrey (8/5): - Of the half a dozen stays in hotel rooms ranging in price from $90 to $110, this is the cleanest. The place is old but there are no signs of “decay” around the edges. I detect very little odor of either use or cleaning chemicals. Even though the place is right next to the hwy, there is minimal noise. The East facing window looks out on a parking lot with a large gravel lot beyond next to a gated “collection” of autos an equipment with residences and rolling hills beyond. It would be nice to have an office chair that is not squeezed into the room, and a better behaving TV.
- Greg (8/5): - The staff worked to ensure all our needs were cared for. Three people worked together to make our room ready on the ground floor. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- Laura (10/5): End of a long road trip - Checked in at 9 was cold and windy outside in April did not expect, but once inside, was comfortable and clean. Hot water instant the next day was a plus. Refri and microwave worked well.
- Kathy (10/5): - Don’t judge a book by its cover! This is an old facility on the outside but our room was very clean, updated, great new comfortable beds, and very quiet. Even though it is right on the interstate we did not hear any traffic noise.
- johanna (6/5): - Average motel, staff was nice
- Robert (6/5): Out in the country - We got there at about 9:30 pm and the hotel went into panic to get the last remaining room reay for us. It was obvious that they did not expect us to show up. They scrambled to get the rom ready. It was presentable but just. The clerk turned the heat on high as it was vey cold when we first went in. After a few minutes a terrible stink appeared. We could not tell if it was the heater or something someone was smoking outside. We turned the heater own and after 15 minutes or so the smell disipated or we acclimated to it. The rset of the brief stay was uneventful.
- debbie (10/5): - Friendly and efficient
All you need!
- Hank (6/5): - It was convenient. Its an older property. It advertised a Casino, but it is 5 miles away and not part if the property at all. That is misleading.
- Peggy (8/5): - Facility is tired, but clean and staff helpful
- DANIEL (10/5): - Close to work
- Steven (8/5): - Barking dog woke me up, heater was sub par. Bathroom door knob didn’t work and would lock you in if you managed to get it closed. Water was very hard. (They need a water softener). The bathroom sink faucet was lose and felt like it was going to fall off. Water pressure was good. Room was clean enough, small flat screen tv, 32” approx.
- Jose (10/5): - A pesar de que se encuentra pegado al freeway # 8, no se escuchan ruidos se puede descansar.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Regular Motel - - It's clean and standard.
- Anthony (2/5): - Creepiest check in ever.
- Laurie (10/5): - Extremely clean
- Brian (10/5): - Originally were planning to stay at Viejas for $350 but the bad smoke smelling make me reconsider that, we played there and decided to keep driving to another place to sleep, Expedia come to the rescue and found me this place, I read reviews and it was for one night only. Im a fan of Motel Bates movies so this was my real experience, we arrived past midnight in the middle of nowhere, found the Motel and then I saw a dark silhouette of a man standing there behind the door, lol this was Mr. Bates for me. He was friendly and waitinf for us cause we called ahead to let him know we were arriving past midnight. The room 111 was super clean, beds were okay but pillows were too fluffy and soft for us.
We had the sunrise very early and couldn't sleep anymore. There's coffee and cookies at the lobby and you can purchase other snacks. I feel safe because it was super dark area but they have cameras everywhere. Next day we left early and had breakfast at Mathews Live oak restaurant, they make big fresh breakfast for a budget.
- Kevin (10/5): - IT was okay
- Emmett (10/5): - Beautiful country,peaceful.
- John (4/5): - Great location. Room was outdated and in need of fixture updates and remodeling. Soap and shampoo provided are poor.
- Tabatha (8/5): - The bed was so comfortable!
- Sven (10/5): - The lady (phillipina) was super helpful and nice!
Also later the other lady wax very friendly!
Thank you
Thilo
- Kimberly (10/5): - The motel was much cleaner than other similar motels at which I have stayed. The manager was very kind and attentive. Although it is right off of the freeway, there is barely any traffic noise. I could hear the crickets at night when I opened the window. For the price, this is a good choice!
- Joseph (8/5): - Small and quiet. Right off I-8.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Check in was awful. Manager was extremely rude.
- Maralyn (6/5): Older motel - I was told there would be a $25 charge for my small service dog checking in. Nothing was mentioned of a charge when making the reservation. Room was worn with some small fixes. Shower was broken. It handle pulled away from the wall as if it was going to come off in your hand. No coffee, far from
Any amenities. Disappointing
Door had a big gap when closed.
- Tammy (10/5): - I had always wondered about this place but I never stayed because of some weird reviews but I needed a place to stay for the weekend that wasn’t $200 a night. I wasn’t sure what to expect but this place was so safe, clean, and cozy! The office has plenty of snacks and drinks for sale but the pizza in nearby live oak springs was also a delight. I especially enjoyed listening to the birds outside. There are chairs outside your room where you can smoke. The water was hot, the TV channels were good. The beds were memory foam cushy. Honestly better than half the El Centro/Hotel Circle hotels I’ve stayed in. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Back Country Inn Motel is quite the accurate description. It is the last possible accommodation before the Imperial County line and before the descent into the desert. It’s small, tidy, and welcoming.
- Abhijith Reddy (10/5): - Budget friendly
- Cynthia (10/5): - Very clean. Staff very friendly. Very close to the PCT start area. Bed very comfortable.
- Gus (8/5): - Very clean
- MariLu (10/5): - I liked the service. And it was clean.
- Lawrence (8/5): - The property was clean and modern in its facilities. Room size was good. Expedia had noon as the check in time but the manager said check in time is really 3 PM. My room was not made up the second day of my stay. Staff said I have to request this service. I was not told this by the manager at check in. Bring your own food and snacks or be ready to drive to find some. Office was never open when I went there.
- Ron (4/5): - Run down. Holes in the walls. No water pressure. No coffee in the morning as advertised. Desk too busy or lazy to make it by 10:00am so we left. Weird vibe. Pay $20 more and stay in El Centro.
- Christopher (4/5): - Property owner yelling at guests and then yelling at staff outside my room from 11pm until 1am. Room not cleaned by check in, had to wait for it to be done.
- Raul (10/5): - Was exactly what we needed, convenient location, clean and comfortable. 10 points.
- Mark (8/5): - Lydia took care of my reservations when I got there. She is great. Answered all my questions, fixed the TV because I ran out of ideas how to get local channels. She also watches over the area outside. Even though there's nothing around this place. I want the owner to know she's doing a great job.
- Eric (10/5): loved this hidden gem! - I was in campo for a mens conference put on by Awaken Church each year, and found the Back Country Inn Motel on the map was the closest place to stay. I so appreciated the owner Sam and night manager, Lydia! They were very helpful and patient with my questions about parking and check in and check out. I really appreciated the clean, warm room and comfortable bed and copious amounts of hot water for showering in between conference sessions and the convenient location right by the freeway and bright signage and well lit parking lot really helped to find their place in the night. I'm definitely planning on reserving a room for the conference dates next year!
- Sidney (4/5): Winter/Spring Snow Stay - Room was better than had expected; however, upon arriving, was mysteriously told "our system went down today so you will need to pay cash to check in" after lonnng drive there. Internet worked, so unsure what system was down, but was directed to nearby ATM to get the necessary cash.
- Thomas (4/5): - Hard bed and pillows
- Mary (8/5): - Peaceful, friendly, private, pet friendly , had an overall wonderful stay, staff was very accommodating.
- Richard (10/5): - I had a good experience here. Water pressure in the bathroom a bit low, so I didn't try taking a shower. Friendly, helpful staff.
- Richard (10/5): - Backcountry is such a quaint and cozy Inn. They have an outstanding staff, that are friendly and very helpful. The beds are very comfortable. The linens are so soft and fragrant. And the room was spacious and well appointed. It made for a rather pleasant stay.
- Collin (8/5): - Owner was super nice. Rooms were fine. Nothing wrong with them.
- Jon (8/5): - It was fine. A little run down and whatnot but what are you going to do? It was the desert
- Wei (6/5): - Only 2 restaurants nearby, which all close by 8pm. Very inconvenient if you arrive late. AC in my room didn't work well. No breakfast, no coffee.
- Amy (10/5): - Very very reasonable considering it’s in California! Staff was very friendly and helpful…
- Susan (10/5): - Great manages and friendly guests. We felt very safe
- Charles (10/5): Good stop - Nice place to stop for the night before going to San Diego. Clean outside & the room was clean too.The room had Refrigerator & microwave. It is a older motel but was nice & well taken care of . We will stay here again. The front desk guy was really nice Plenty of parking for camper’s or semi’s
- Arabo (10/5): - very good
- Mark (6/5): It's time for the steel bars to go.. - For a location just outside San Diego, it was good. Inexpensive room, with outdated bathroom, but all else was good.
Clean room, working a/c, TV and fridge.
Staff check in was very good, but the outdoor check-in with steel bars on the window, heavy screen, and black duct taped hole to pass credit card and room key through needs to go!
The clerk said it was for COVID, but that's a worn out excuse..it made me feel like I was checking into a dangerous, crime-ridden neighborhood, which it is not.
- Jillian (10/5): A great little motel - This is a great little motel. Super friendly staff, good-sized rooms, air-con, spotlessly clean, huge comfy bed, quiet and safe.
- Woo (8/5): - Friendly check-in staff.
- Pauline (10/5): Comfort stay - Very comfortable & quiet.
- Jason (8/5): - The room, though basic, was nicer and cleaner than expected.
