- Trevor Amelia (10/5): - Loved the location, the style of the Inn. Great people and friendly!
- Elaina (10/5): -
- Adam (10/5): We will come back - Quit and comfortable value staff very EZ to work with and friendly After rechecking my check in info Bookings messed up my check in time it’s like they auto changed it.. but Howard at the resort managed it and accommodated us which was wonderful!
- Susan (9/5): We plan on going again. - It felt homey which I very much wanted for my birthday weekend.
A lovely host, beautiful weather, and a nice town with many choices of wonderful food, made for great weekend.
- Ernest (9/5): -
- John (9/5): - Very quaint place to stay if you’re in this area. Howard was a delightful host.
- Kimberly (10/5): -
- Paul (6/5): - It had charm. The bed was comfortable. The room was spacious and filled with enough drawers for a long stay. Well mice wife was horrified with the blood on the comforter and the blood on the next layer, the blanket.
Folks, replace the decaying carpet going up the stairs. The place is like being preserved in time but not kept up in time.
- Jeremy (10/5): - This house was amazing. I loved learning about the history of the house and the family that owned it.
- Beverly (10/5): -
- Shannon (10/5): - Wonderful stay at the English Merchant Inn
From the moment we arrived, the English Merchant Inn exceeded every expectation. The historic charm of the building is beautifully maintained, yet every comfort feels modern and thoughtful. Our room was spotless, cozy, and full of character, with little touches that made it feel special.
The innkeepers were warm and welcoming—always ready with helpful recommendations and a genuine smile. Breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious and clearly made with care.
The location is ideal for exploring the area, but it’s also so peaceful that you can simply relax and soak in the atmosphere. We left feeling refreshed and already planning our next visit.
I can’t recommend the English Merchant Inn highly enough for anyone looking for a perfect blend of comfort, history, and hospitality.
- Jodi (10/5): Beautiful Home. - Lovely place to stay. Great atmosphere. The owner was friendly and gave us a nice tour of the home. Everything necessary for a nights stay. Wish our trip had been longer than just one night.
- Cody (10/5): - Beautiful swanky property with charm and neat items throughout the home
- Tonya (10/5): The house was beautiful! Our room was wonderful. Everything was very clean! Our host, Howard was very friendly & inf - The house was beautiful.
- Adkisson (10/5): Definately recommend this place. - loved the vibe breakfast the place we went , the waitress had no idea about the $30.00 dollar voucher, wound up buying my breakfast .
- Victoria (10/5): Great place to stay. Very welcoming owner and super location. - British theme decorations were great ◡̈
- Gates (9/5): A nice place to rest before going to Scarborough - The house was great. There were a lot of interesting things to look at and our en suite bathroom was wonderful. Oh, and the bed was beautiful and the balcony was great. It was a little rainy so we didn't enjoy it as much as we'd like, plus we got there late and I couldn't stay more than one night but that wasn't their fault. I hope I am able to go again in the future! It said breakfast was included so I thought breakfast would be there. They had information about 3 different restaurants they recommended but whether they had a deal with them, I wasn't sure and I didn't think to ask when we went to the White Rhino cafe. It was a cute cafe though in a large, gray Victorian house.
- Jason (10/5): - The caretaker of the property came and introduced himself to us. He was very nice. The cottage was beautiful and clean.
- rdV5505ID (10/5): A Zillion Teacups! Charming - Charming “English” Inn in the heart of Waxahatchie Texas. Local innkeeper very friendly. Comfortable, clean and spacious rooms with excellent clawfoot tub. An Anglophile’s escape. Great breakfast at three local establishments. Fun stop between Ft Worth and Houston.
- Dianne (10/5): The location was great and would definitely recommend staying here! - The cottage was beautiful and very comfortable. It was nice to have a private entrance. There was not anything I didn’t like but be aware, there are areas without ramps.
- Underwood (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - Cozy, private, good amenities, location, host
- Charlesse (10/5): - This area was very quaint and I loved hiw responsive & accommodating the property manger was. I enjoyed my stay.
- Jmerrit68 (10/5): Relaxing get away - You can pick from 3 place to get breakfast and they pay up to $30. They have all the amenities. Sat on porch and drank wine.
- Steven Martin (10/5): - Owner was great
- Gay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthew (9/5): Superb - Location to downtown. Welcoming host. Interesting place to stay Nothing
- Loren (10/5): Exceptional - The owners are very nice & accommodating. Nothing
- Charles (10/5): A perfect friendly, comfortable safe place to stay with a perfect host. Thank you! - The host Mr. Baskin was exceptional. He was friendly and helpful. His home is beautiful. The room was comfortable and clean. The bowl of chocolate set out by the front door was a real nice touch. The front porch is a great place to relax. Lot of history to be seen in the home. From the time to you arrive you feel welcome. Just all around great experience. Mr. Baskin really pays attention to detail to be sure his guests are taken care of. 2 things could have made it a little better. sometimes in the evening the room was a little warm. A fan was supplied for the room and that made it ok. The last night there the room was a lot cooler and much better. By no means is this a complaint. Everyone has their own comfort settings. Just a small item. The only other thing that is very minor is it would have been nice to have a small fridge in the room (not that there is a place for it) There is one in the common room for guests to use.
- Karen (10/5): - Beautiful property. I was pleasantly surprised.
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional - The inn exceeded my expectations, it felt like going to your grandparents house. It felt like home and was very comfortable. We had a great stay. Downtown. Is walking distance and worth going to see. We spent lots of time shopping and enjoying the town.
- Ed (10/5): - My wife and I love this little inn. Very charming and Homie with lots to discover. Highly recommended. The end keeper Howard was very responsive and attentive. Couldn’t ask for more
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (8/5): - Staff reached out to us in advance to provide us check-in and parking information. Once we arrived, staff welcomed us via text and made sure everything was going well. The location was great and convenient for the purpose of our overnight stay. Room was clean and everything worked well for an older property.
The property was really cool and we enjoyed our stay.
The only reason not to give it 5 stars was the condition of the building. It is a old home in an historic area, the cracks in the walls and shower area just need to be patched and updated.
- Robin (10/5): Love the decor and location - Howard was a wonderful host. The decor is wonderfully done. It is very quaint and lovely. It’s is in walking distance to the town square even though we took the car. It’s in a nice neighborhood. I will definitely stay again.
- Syung (10/5): - Charming historical looking home/inn. I felt like I went back in time. It was clean and ac was cool. Just a very relaxing to place to stay in an interesting neighborhood with a mix of historical traditional and colonial homes.
- jeffrey (10/5): Thanks - outstanding atmosphere
- Doug (10/5): Will stay here again when we return to Waxahachie. - Not a typical “hotel” but more like home. Very interesting history. Clean, comfortable. Mr. Baskin(owner) was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast options were well thought out and good. Have nothing to add here
- Shirley (9/5): Comfy and pleasant - The free breakfast was a plus. The house was in a very nice landscaped neighborhood. The WiFi didn’t work in the cottage , didn’t stay connected. If we came back to Waxahachie I’d stay there again.
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! It was absolutely beautiful.
- Frances (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katherine (10/5): Wonderful old house! - Wonderful host, great old house to explore, like a museum with a Brit twist! Great wrap around porch. Teacups, plentiful tea and coffee in room. Our suite was like an antique store, so many items to appreciate. Very clean accommodations. Short, easy walk to downtown Waxahachie, great breakfast places. Sweet town.
- Charlotte (9/5): The Inn was quiet and comfortable. Enjoyed a nice relaxing weekend! - Great front porch. Wonderful claw foot tub!
- Christine (10/5): Beautiful hotel, can't wait to come back! - Amazing experience! We stayed in the cottage, and it was just beautiful. The bed is comfortable, and the cottage is very quiet. They have a Keurig with assorted coffee and tea (regular and decaf). I look forward to staying here again!
- Glenn (10/5): Howard the owner was a true character. Great individual. - Quite ,clean
- James (10/5): Perfect - Wonderful stay. Location excellent. Staff knowledgeable and friendly.
- Gregory I. (6/5): Interesting - A museum and interesting but not quite as comfortable to stay. There is no in house breakfast and only Keurig drinks 😔 but a coupon down at a couple of restaurants.
- Alexandria (10/5): - Romantic Stay
- Daniel (10/5): Beautiful period home with welcoming host - Wonderful period property with countless British antiques and curiosities. Owner Howard was extremely welcoming and helpful. Rooms are large and comfortable with ample toiletries provided. Nothing
- Moody (10/5): AMAZING!!! - The host was soooo AMAZING, as it turned out, we knew some of the same people so it was fun to talk about our commonalities. The home was EXTREMELY COZY and inviting, I wanted to move in.
We were in town for a funeral, nice distraction from the sadness.
- Garner (10/5): Best Place to Stay in Waxahachie - The home was beautiful and in a nice location. The room was beautifully decorated and had everything you need. Nothing. Everything was very nice.
- J5311HIsteveb (10/5): Charming and Comfortable - A charming and comfortable place to stay as a family, we were in Waxahachie for our son's wedding. The owner is very attentive to your needs. The beds are great and the bathrooms spacious. We stayed on the second floor with other family members and enjoyed having coffee, tea and breakfast together each morning. We plan to return for a weekend to just enjoy the Waxahachie downtown area.
- Richard (10/5): - Will be back to this home. We loved it
- Lori (10/5): great little place - Lovely little BB. We chose the cottage to keep to ourselves although found ourselves touring the inside of BB and sitting on the porch of the main house. Very lovely place
- Stay573249 (4/5): Froze during the night. - This B&B run by a truly friendly guy, a retired attorney from Dallas. Took the time to explain our room and the B&B to us along with some interesting background stories. However! During the night I froze. Someone had the thermostat down so cold I couldn’t sleep. I don’t suffer from hot flashes and I’m disappointed there are those who are so insensitive to normal people. I have no desire to return here. Skip Parker. Richardson, TX.
- Cristine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (10/5): - Howard was so friendly and welcoming when i checked in. Really great old house and beautifully appointed. Will stay here again.
- Roy (10/5): Beautiful home with gracious hosts in a quaint Texas town. - Host met us and showed us to our suite. The turn of the century home is beautiful and comfortable. Mary and Howard anticipated our needs. We were fortunate to run into Tony (he has been a long time employee and friend of Howard and Mary). Tony gave us a grand tour of the house and its rich history. We are looking for reasons to return to the area. Enjoyed an excellent steak and sides at Prime 115. Enjoyed a evening at the Playhouse downtown as well as the evening entertainment at Big Al's. It was as hot as blue blazes outside (over 100) - the cabin was comfortably cool when we arrived and throughout our stay. There is limited shade in the retail area of downtown.
- Jari (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): BTM - Better than most.
- Jari (9/5): Superb -
- Becky (9/5): Superb -
- Suellen (9/5): Superb -
- Travel-and-Food_Luvr (10/5): Beautiful and comfortable historic B&B - Had a wonderful experience at the English Merchant's Inn. The best way I would describe the in is "curated" - it is so beautifully decorated, with interesting furniture and decor that was a feast for the eyes, while still relaxing and comfortable. Warmly welcomed by the host, everything we needed for a great stay was at hand. Nice location in a quiet part of town, close to the center with restaurants and shops. There is quite a lot to see and explore in town. Highly recommend sitting on the porch at sunset soaking up the small town charm.
- Martin (10/5): short stay and we enjoyed it. - everything was lovely
- Werner (10/5): - Incredible
- Ogletree (10/5): Exceptional - We loved all the details and care put into the place.and Howard provided good communication!
- larryh351 (6/5): pick where you stay - we stayed in the "cottage" not the main houses this review is about the cottage. The cottage is at the back of the house, was the housekeepers abode. The building has cracks in the walls, paint peeling in the bath.Whoever painted did not mask the hardware making a mess. The walkway to the house passes a building that needs painting, the gutters have not been cleaned, so plants are growing out of them. The main house may be fine and seems to be much better maintained. My recommendation is avoid the cottage. The main house is interesting to see.
- Billy (8/5): - If was a different type of property than what we have stayed in before but we found it very comfortable and we would recommend especially if you plan on renting more than one room. Very personal.
- Kang (10/5): Feel like a British for a night stay - I must commend the tissues in this accommodation! The premium quality feels like cloth! We slept warmly and can attest that the mattress and pillows were firm.
Some of the things we liked:
- Curtains block light
- No bed bugs or cockroaches
- Super Safe neighbourhood
- Free Parking
- Free breakfast at an amazing cafe 2 mins drive away from the accommodation
- Sherri (10/5): very pleasant 😎👌🏻⭐️ - love the vintage property & home. lovely just needed to be swept under the beds, as when turned fan on, it blew dust everywhere 🤧
- Zulqarnain (10/5): - Loved the place
- Lottie (10/5): Exceptional - There were cozy common areas to relax in, and it was fun getting to talk with the other groups staying. We were provided coffee and tea at a self serve area, as well as a breakfast credit to some local cafes. The parking could be better, I recommend a group come in one car. However there are places to park off the property that are a very short walk away in a safe neighborhood.
- Wendy (10/5): Lovely and unique! - Host, Howard was friendly and helpful with local suggestions for dining. Inn is super cool!
- Keith (10/5): It was just what we needed and wanted!!!! - The house and room were perfect! nothing! it was all good!
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about this property.
- John (10/5): - I wish I could keep this place a secret, but the facilities are excellent and Howard is a great man and host. I will be back!
- Cynthia (10/5): English charm - Lovely old house, completely updated and beautiful. Beds very comfortable. The host is friendly and knowledgeable. This is a fantastic place to stay.
- Greg (10/5): - This property is beautiful with large rooms for comfort and the staff and owners are such nice people. We felt at home.
- Walter (10/5): - We loved this little Bed and Breakfast. Had all of the right touches to make for a lovely stay!
- Linda (9/5): Superb - We had breakfast at the white rhino and enjoyed it very much. Had dinner at Prime 115 was very good. Our room was very nice with a balcony and great view of the neighborhood. Howard was a great host and very helpful with any thing you needed to know. Would stay there again.
- Alicia_JA (8/5): Comfortable Historic Inn - The historic home is beautiful and decorated with something fabulous in each corner. The accomodations were comfortable and the inn keepers kind. The bathroom of the room I stayed in was huge and offered both a tub and a shower. The location is close to the historic downtown and offered off-street parking. Breakfast was not served in the house but instead had to be selected from visiting one of three restaurants in town. My choice (I address in the cafe's review) left much to be desired but I won't hold that against the Inn. I would however, recommend a good vacuuming behind and under the bed. There were inches of dust collected in both locations.
- Dimitar (10/5): - Great communication and hospitality!
- Charles (10/5): The home was very charming with an old-world English flair. - We were given 3 off-site breakfast options. The one we chose was excellent. We stopped on the way out of town so it was not inconvenient.
- Jill (10/5): Extremely pleased will definitely stay again. - The house it self was lovely every room guilded with British memorabilia. For such an old house it had very few quirks and still had so much personality. I wish breakfast was on-site for weekends. Or had credits to the designated locations at the very least.
- Roya (10/5): - Historical and great place to stay
- Valerie (10/5): Wonderful Inn!! - This is our second year to stay at the English Merchants Inn. The beds & pillows are so comfortable! They provide q-tips, eye makeup remover, cotton balls, makeup remover wipes, & bathroom spray. Who does that? It was rainy & cool during our stay so we enjoyed a fire without the mess of wood. This is a wonderful place to stay. I do wish they provided on site breakfast. Not thrilled to have to leave the Inn for breakfast, but not such a big issue to keep me from staying there again.
- Todd (7/5): Good -
- Loren (8/5): Apollo was the Porter and tended to all of our needs. Perfect ! - Three different choices of places. Great It was all great
- Monica (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mandy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lidia (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home is beautiful and comfortable. - My sister and I wanted to take a girl's trip out of town for a couple of days and this B&B was perfect. It was so cute, inviting, and comfortable. The temperature in the room was pleasant and the bed was comfy. The decor throughout the house was beautiful. The only suggestion I can think of is that the door to the bathroom is clear glass in the room we stayed in. The toilet sits behind a wall so that is somewhat private but I would suggest having a curtain inside the bathroom door for privacy when dressing.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Our room was clean and the sheets were amazing!
- Jane (10/5): Would love to stay here again. - It was beautiful with antiques. Couldn’t see the TV from the bed.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was helpful and courteous, the facilities were incredibly clean and comfortable. Coffee service in the morning with antique china and lots of breakfast options. Room was cleaned and refreshed daily. This is a 5-star B&B with a cozy, relaxing feel. Honestly, there wasn't anything to dislike. Howard was amazing and every need was met immediately.
- Holt (10/5): I highly recommend coming to this wonderful bed and breakfast. I felt the love as soon as we entered - The entire stay was amazing! I loved the overall British themed rooms. Our rooms were upstairs and I was worried that it may be too hard for us to climb, but we made it just fine. The beds were so comfortable and the lines were the softest I ever felt. Matter of fact, I got the brand name from one of the pillow cases and have already placed an order. They had tea and coffee out in the "Commons Area" which was wonderful. I got up the next morning and went into the game/media room and had my coffee and enjoyed my morning. Howard's wife decorated the home and she outdid herself. Thanks to you both for a wonderful stay to celebrate my 70th birthday! I loved everything about it.
- 349sarak (10/5): Absolutely perfect. - Beautiful property, comfortable bed, fabulous tub, wonderful balcony on Main Street, helpful and attentive host, eclectic decor, bountiful tea and coffee, happy and friendly fellow guests, perfect stay!
- Alan (10/5): - The English Merchant Inn is a wonderful place to stay. All the amenities you could think of in a beautifully maintain home. The owner, Howard Baskins, is a great host.
We have stayed here several times in the past as we do an annual bike ride “Tour D’ Italia” each year. Unfortunately, do to the early start of the ride we have not experienced breakfast. However we plan to stay two nights next year.
The town of Waxahachie is quiet and lots of Beautiful homes in the surrounding neighborhood. Excellent restaurants are also near by.
- Marion (10/5): - Such a cute bed in breakfast! Howard is very nice and greeted us when we arrived! He also told us the history of the property!
