Guest Reviews
- Amanda (10/5): - Lugar maravilhoso!
- Thiago (10/5): -
- Ioana Nanu (4/5): Passive aggresive old man with anger issues - The location was good, very close to Pelourinho and the room was generally comfortable. The first day and night went very well — my friend and I genuinely enjoyed our stay, and initially we found the host to be kind and helpful.
However, things changed the next morning. I asked if the coffee could be made a bit stronger and whether I could have a fried egg instead of scrambled eggs (as I had seen this offered to another guest the previous day). The response to the coffee request was dismissive, but I didn’t insist.
When I asked about the eggs, the host became visibly irritated. The situation escalated further when I asked for soap for the bathroom, as we had been without it for two days. Although he provided it, his behavior changed significantly - he started making noise in the kitchen, throwing dishes, and acting in a clearly frustrated and unprofessional manner.
At one point, he approached me in a passive-aggressive tone and said, “If you want to leave, you can leave. You don’t have to stay here if you don’t like it.” This was surprising, as I hadn't felt like not enjoying my stay until that point.
After considering the situation, I decided it was best for us to leave and we moved to another accommodation. My friend tried to resolve things, and although it seemed he understood, he resumed making comments toward me as soon as he saw me again.
It’s also worth noting that guests are not allowed to keep a key, meaning you must rely on the host to access the property at all times.
Additionally, both my friend and I had food poisoning after eating breakfast there.
DO NOT RECOMMEND
- Beth (4/5): - The first part of our stay was very good, Gerardo was very considerate and welcoming. The breakfast was thoughtfully prepared and the location is excellent. This is very old school accommodation, and could perhaps use updating but everything was clean. Half way through our stay, we were approached in the street near the hostel by some local children who asked us for money. We politely declined and walked on. After that, every time we left the hostel the children would throw rocks at us. We told Gerardo and he chased the kids off, but afterwards got angry with us. He seemed to be more concerned that his window might be broken than that it was a bit of a scary situation for us. When we politely explained, he became quite defensive hostile and it really changed the atmosphere. On our last day, he started yelling at us that we would leave a bad review and it wasn't his fault, it was ours for provoking the kids. A very strange situation which was saved by being with a couple of friends but would have been really awful if I'd been solo which I usually am. I would not recommend this accomodation for women personally.
The system to get in could also be improved. You have to wait to be let in, and when we can in a bit late, around midnight, Gerardo seemed very annoyed to have to wake up to let us in. Perhaps a rethink on motivations to hosting us in order as dealing with issues compassionately is really essential.
- Natalia (10/5): Best place closed to Pelourinho - Perfect location

- Gabriela (8/5): Dos días muy lindos en Bahia! - La ubicación y el desayuno! Nada, todo estuvo bien.
- Joni (9/5): - Deze ontzettend vriendelijke man runt het hostel volledig alleen.

Rien
- Azevedo (10/5): Otima - Atendimento ótimo Tudo muito bem
- Samuel (10/5): Foi aconchegante, simples e super agradável.

- iraci (9/5): - Gostei bastante do anfitrião Geraldo.gentil e inteligente
- Rafael (10/5): -
- Izzy (9/5): Superb - Gerardo is a very lovely and accommodating host. Breakfast was delicious! The location is good. Facilities are quite basic, but good for a short stay.
- Lucía (9/5): Superb - Gerardo, the host, was incredible! He's very kind, friendly and so helpful. The place is small but very clean.
The location is near small bars to have something to drink or eat. Just one recommendation, some hooks in bedroom 2 to hang up some clothes.
- Anna (8/5): Very good - - very friendly and attentive host / owner of the hostel; also very helpful
- even on day I had to leave early he prepared some breakfast which I did nog expect because it was very early
- the location is very good : 4 minutes walk to Pelourinho
- good breakfast (papaya, fresh fruit juice, eggs)
- safe also for solo female travelling - the appartment is equipped rudimentarily, but you can see that in the pictures, so no surprise there
- if you are a high maintenance treveler it is not for you
- Anna (9/5): Superb - Nice quiet place to stay on the way to historic center. Clean and cosy. Plenty if choices for breakfast. Owner is very helpful and put lots of efforts to make you feel welcome
- Matthew (1/5): Don’t stay here -
- Eduard (8/5): Great - Gerardo is a great host making nice breakfast every day
Price-quality wise very good deal No aircon
- Amélie (7/5): Good - The owner is super nice and helpful. The bathroom was clean and quite big. We left too early to try breakfast but I'm sure it's good We only spent one night there and it was ok but I cannot imagine spending a couple of days there as the place is really small in general and the room as well. The room has no windows.
- Charles (10/5): Like being in someone's home, more than a hostel. - The location is excellent, and the breakfast is simple but delicious. The owner of the place is a one man show who runs everything and takes it very seriously, and he does a great job. The beds are comfortable and the one bathroom is simple, but clean and effective.
- Cem (10/5): Exceptional - If I return to Salvador, this will be my first choice again. A simple room, but in a very good location, quiet and a very nice host. I slept very well and the breakfast was delicious.
- Clément (10/5): Excellent stay in beautiful Salvador - Warm welcome, beautiful old house, very nice host.
- Guillaume (6/5): Good location and place for the price, but could not recommend it given the limited flexibility - Very good location overall although the last 2 streets at night can feel a bit unsafe, the room is fine for the price, breakfast is simple but good. More than anything price is cheap. Lack of flexibility. You are very dependent on the host, no key, no independent entry. For the same reason, could not keep the luggage after 8pm. Host was fine and polite but I sensed more for his review than really trying to help. Also little flexibility in service, he requested me (and insisted like 5 times) to check out at 10am instead of 12pm because he has promised the next ones they could check-in earlier. But himself he showed no flexibility in using the shared bathroom to freshen-up in 5min while picking up my luggage or in keeping the luggage longer as my bus was at 11pm. No space to wait in the hostel either (no lobby or shared space).
- Theo (8/5): Very good - Clean and simple hostel with generous host. Recommended. No complaints given value.
- Rodolfo (10/5): Exceptional - I liked the host, the breakfest, the place. Location was a little bit danger. Like most of the big cities in Brazil, the center It is not so safe as it should be.
- Fauth (10/5): Exceptional - Good hostel and friendly staff The facilities could be improved.
- Léonie (9/5): Very good 😊 - Gerardo the host is very accommodating, he stayed awake and waited until 1am to open to us. The property is very good value for money and in the heart of Salvador.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gerardo is a great host! I felt at home during my stay here. The property is close to Pelourinho, in a residential area, which is quiet and parking was easy to find. The breakfast is delicious. Highly recommended if you want somewhere walking distance to the old town.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A basic hostel close to the Historic Centre - This is a basic hostel which does the job but will not excite. If you want a place close to the historic centre, that is cheap and are just looking for somewhere to put your head down then this is the place. It is a small hostel with only 3 rooms which is quite outdated and so this may not suit anyone who is looking to party or that likes a bit more luxury.
The owner of this hostel is extremely welcoming and willing to help in anyway he can. The wifi in the hostel is very good and a reasonable breakfast of scrabble eggs, meat cheese and home made bread and cake is provided each morning.
The bedrooms consist of a bed and a free standing fan. The bathroom is basic but has a good amount of hot water and does the job.
The hostel is located only 200metres from the historic centre up a steep narrow street. This street seems a bit intimidating at night although we never had any issues. At worst it is a very cheap taxi ride from the centre.
Overall as long as you are happy with just the basics this is a very good value hostel in the centre of Slavador but it will not be for everyone.
