Guest Reviews
- severinec507 (2/5): Too noisy to sleep - Staff is very helpful but had our room was by the nightclub and simply couldn't sleep. In the end, went to see whether we could get moved and it turns out they had some so why they would put people at the front is beyond me.
New room was fine so did manage to get a few hours sleep but not enough and wasn't offered any compensation either.
- C1174FNcharlener (4/5): Don't bother - Room is small and basic.
Breakfast was disgusting, mushrooms were cremated , bacon was rock hard , sausages not even hot .
Avoid breakfast....
Receptionist was very helpful ☺️
- 671janetter (4/5): I'm glad i got a cheap deal but better just around the corner for the same price. - Wouldnt stop again
We stayed in room 7
Lots of cigarette butts outside the door...more than 20.
The room was freezing and I had to wait in my coat after turning up the heating and putting the separate heater on.
Water was cold and needed to run for 10 minutes on the hottest to get a warm shower. The groat needs a good clean.
The bed was comfortable but we needed extra pillows...had to go to reception not sure why there were not already 2 each.
Wifi wouldn't connect.
Convenient location to the high street.
We avoided breakfast as it was quite expensive and a good option just a few doors away.
Free parking is a plus.
- OlbasUk (8/5): Good location , comfortable and friendly , good value for money - Great location and nice staff.. asked for more pillows and they were brought to the room within 5 mins . I’d asked for a quiet room and that’s what we got in the courtyard at the back.. didn’t book breakfast as plenty of places to eat as soon as you step outside the hotel .. only one negative .. A Very odd bathroom lay out in the room .. no 116 .. through from the bedroom into what you first think is another bedroom .. but it was part dressing room with dressing table , kettle etc and part bathroom with no door on the bathroom area .. would really think at least a sliding door could be installed for privacy . Not sure open plan bathroom is the way to go ! Also they don’t supply any hand towels only bath towels but when we queried this , they were happy to supply us with more bath towels .
- Hester (4/5): - Lots of narrow stairs, not great for lots of luggage.
No staff at night, room next to us multiple people came in at 3am and had a very loud party until 5am, we tried calling reception, but no answer. Later we were told they were supposed to give us a night number for night issues. A horrible night with no sleep
- David (10/5): Overnight stay - Function room, provided a comfortable overnight stay. Only downside is that there is no in house restaurant unless you want to eat Pizza Express. However there are several place to eat within walking distance of the hotel.
- John (8/5): Typical town centre hotel. - Typical town centre hotel. We had three rooms, the two outside of the hotel were comfortable and quiet, but the one at the front of the hotel was very noisy.
The car park was difficult to find, but once found was good.
- Andy (8/5): - I chose this hotel due to its location, being right in the centre of the town, so we could walk to restaurants and pubs in the evenings, with the cost being reasonable. The breakfast was a bit expensive, but there are various cafes only a short walk away which are cheaper, so you could go for the room only option. Ask for a room at the back, as the front rooms are facing onto the junction of the main pedestrianised area and through road, so it can get a bit noisier at night at the weekend.
The rooms were functional and clean, but there was a lack of drawers for longer stays. The breakfast was good, with no restriction on how much you could have, and in a nice room, so it was a relaxed start to the day
- Julie (6/5): - Mediocre ok for one night
- 543oo (2/5): Never again - Very old and worn out hotel and room. A lot of clutter in the hallway when you enter the hotel.
It doesn’t look very welcoming.
The window in the bathroom is permanently opened, can’t be closed which makes it freezing in the morning.
Breakfast is a buffet of prepackaged cereals and some choices of warm breakfast.
All in all, not a real pleasant experience…
- Eileen (4/5): - The first room we were given was in the car park! Tiny and extremely hot. This was barely a £50 room and definitely not the £100 I paid. My daughter asked if we could be moved and we were moved to room 106 which was large but also hot. There was an air con unit but couldn't have that on at night as it was noisy. The street outside was extremely noisy in the night. I suggest a complete overhaul , new double gazed windows and central air conditioning. We paid £8 for Continental breakfast which was also disappointing, only tow types of pastry, not very fresh, coffee tasted stewed. All in all adissapointing stay which was a shame as this, pus Highclere was a 50th birthday treat for my daughter, here from Australia. The saving grace was a very comfortable bed and the check in any was wonderful..
- Redlake99 (4/5): More hostel than hotel - Stayed here for 1 night in July and never again. We stayed in room 6 and a thoroughly poor experience more like a hostel than a hotel.
No hot water
Sink broken
No toilet paper
Window didn't shut
We obviously brought these issues to the attention of the staff who were disinterested.
- Paperboy911 (10/5): I was impressed - My brother was staying with his family and I booked a room for one night so I could join them for a visit.
Check in was fine but a little odd. I was just having a little jokey banter with the lady at reception when she suddenly said ‘no I’ll not put you there I will do this instead.’
Gave me the room key and off I went. The room was fantastic, spacious and very clean with a portable air conditioner and double bed even though I was a solo traveller in this occasion.
I wasn’t expecting it to be that good.
Breakfast was ok as well.
Nice surroundings and we sat out in the courtyard with a few beers in the evening.
All staff were polite and friendly.
Doesn’t sound like all the rooms are like that but I was very happy on this occasion.
- titch277 (2/5): Sort the breakfast out - Checkin was quick,
Traveled with a friend we had our own rooms.
Our rooms were opposite of the court yard, don’t understand this as booking was done together and end up a distance from each other
Rooms were the smallest I’ve ever seen, had to side step to get around the bed.
Room and bathroom was clean but extremely hot, they did provide a fan.
Breakfast…… where to start
Asked for a fried egg, which they cooked to order, but then bacon sausages bean had run out so had to wait 11 minutes for any other the items to arrive so food was cold
They need better attention to getting items stocked up especially as a busy Sunday morning.
this hotel was worth the money I paid for one night
Wouldn’t stay again
- Thomas (10/5): - Very professional place
- bridget (10/5): - Room was too hot. Butty everything was brilliant.
- A5711DZcarolb (10/5): Amazing staff - Fabulous hotel so friendly staff were amazing could not do enough for us room immaculate and so central we were visiting family and they welcomed our family in the courtyard to enjoy drinks. We will definitely return
- Steven (8/5): - Noisy at night from kids/people fighting and screaming outside.
Pigeons wake you up early
- Mick (2/5): - Dated, unloved, poorly maintained, awful shower, no hand towels, overpriced - basically BLOODY AWFUL!
- m (10/5): - Staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful.
- Julie (10/5): - The receptionist was lovely upon arrival and the accommodation was clean and of a high stsndatd
- Jim (6/5): Not the best, but good breakfast. - Room was small, with terrible view out the window, alley way was used by people at night as a cut through and woke my partner up, walls are thin.
Bathroom could do with a bit of work, grout around the bath and tiles could do with sorting, shower head run.
- Robert (4/5): - This is a restored old hotel in the city centre. OK for overnight but limited for longer stays.
- Karen (10/5): Great price - Stayed one night. Lovely, spacious room. Cleanliness was of a high standard. Comfy bed, warm shower and soft towels - everything we expect for a great price.
- Mark (10/5): Great stay - A lovely hotel with large comfortable room. Very convenient - right in the middle of town with its own car park.
- James (10/5): Excellent! - Everything was as good as I could wish. Top class!
- Chithambaram (6/5): Disappointed this time - Stayed few times. We are disappointed this time.
1. the so called air cooler is the waste of space. When you switch it on and put either fan or cool mode, it make the noise that no nowe will sleep. Instead of this if they give us normal fan that would have been begetter. Since e the night is cool, we managed it buy owning the window.
2. The most disappoint met was the shower. You do not get steady hot water every 30 to 45 seconds you get the cold water and you get warm water and again back to cold water which was very cold
3. The mirror for shaving over the wash basin - not working. The pull cord is permanently in one position.
- TERRY (8/5): One night stay - Only downside was access to the carpark which you have to drive about 800 yards to access
- Carole (8/5): - After we found parking, we checked in- it was easy. The receptionist was friendly. The hotel location is good - in the pretty town centre with good amenities very close by.
Room was comfy, basic but had everthing we needed for our 1 night stop over.
We slept well but scratching above woke us a few times. (There were visible rats about the area).
- aaron (2/5): Not a hotel! - Awful, not really a hotel just a series of cramped, shabby rooms around a public car park, with the backs of restaurants including bins for scenery.
Handmade note in bathroom tells you to run hot tap for a bit to draw water through...10 minutes later i had warm water.
No restaurant in hotel, asked at reception where in the area was nice to eat and the response of Wetherspoons from reception tells you everything about this hotel.
I travel and use a lot of hotels for work and the standard of this hotel was not reflected in the price...for £90 a night ive stayed in much nicer hotels in the same area.
Definitely not going back.
- JenP1444 (6/5): Tiny Bedroom - The smallest hotel bedroom I've ever been allocated is here in an annexe at the back of the main hote via steep stairs. 4m x 3m with a double bed taking up 80% of the room, made it awkward to store a suitcase (no frippery as a case stand), but at least you don't need to worry about wardrobe space - there isn't any.
A single ceiling light in the bedroom, and another in the tiny basic bathroom, give an aura of economy (a mirror wall light in the bathroom was broken.)
Horrible pillows meant I couldn't sleep.
Basic breakfast and cold plates (eek).
On the plus side, the back car park is handy for charity shops, Turkish barbers and vape shops.
The hotel overlooks a town centre populated by teens racing around on electric scooters, so beware if venturing outside.
- Amanda (10/5): Woodstar - Booking in was easy & our room was available and we got access straight away , all the staff were welcoming & friendly . Our room was lovely & comfortable & the breakfast was excellent, would definitely stay again.
- Yu Yun (10/5): - We visited our friends living in Andover. The hotel is pretty nice. Good location. Good food breakfast. I like our stay. Only issue is the hot water system I don’t know how to make the temperature right in shower…
- Adrian (8/5): Great room, average but plentiful breakfast. - We had a very nicely renovated large room on the second floor of the main building, looking out onto the pedestrian High Street. A little noise from the party-goers, but got to sleep fine. Buffet breakfast was plentiful but nothing special, ie bacon overdone, cheap sausages and weak filtered coffee but nice croissant and pastries.
- Trevor (6/5): - Nice: reception staff were friendly; room was clean; bed was comfy
Not nice: the shower didn't work (alleged recent repair was botched/flow control not properly attached); breakfast staff were invisible; and breakfast (12 GBP) was missing endless things; TV mounted so high on the wall it was unusable.
- Nicola (10/5): Great hotel and very good value for money. - Have stayed at this hotel many times. Staff are always friendly and helpful.
Rooms always warm and clean. Always get a good nights sleep in a comfy bed.
- Janda (8/5): - Very central, close to transport, quit and good value.
- Douglas (8/5): Competent - Basic but very clean and comfy enough. Need better/more pillows though. Good location in the heart of Andover. Nice friendly staff. Would stay again.
- Darryl (10/5): - Rooms were clean excellent parking and very convenient for a night out in town
- Jenni (2/5): Tired! - The club next door closed approximately 2am, there was noise until 3am. The room we were staying in should not be occupied at weekends!!! It faced the sound system and It was awful. I then had to drive 130 miles with no sleep, it was not only dangerous, I paid £84 for the privilege! I have stayed at this hotel loads of times but never in that room! It is a lovely hotel, but they should think about their customers more.
- James (10/5): - Lovely hotel with clean rooms.
- chriswZ2290VB (2/5): How not to run a hotel... - My partner recently reviewed this hotel on the basis of their rooms & the experience with our stay, I am now leaving a further review following the most horrific, rude, discriminatory and damn right appalling dealings with management. I am now leaving this review as we have finally after weeks received the refund we had been waiting for but via Booking.com.
Following on from our complaint we received a very well written & dealt with response from the hotel which offered a 50% refund as gesture of goodwill & asked us to call for this. My partner & I called repeatedly, 4 times in fact because we kept being told I would need to speak to management to receive the refund but there never seemed to be management onsite… Seemed very odd to us! During these calls we kept being told ‘oh you are the person who has left a review’. We had zero clue why our review was being mentioned; yes we had left a review of our experience which was true, factual & fair. After going round & round we further spoke with Emma & later Jordon MorbyJames (who calls himself the ‘Operations Director’). During our conversations we were told a few things but I will outline some of them for context:
We were told the review we left wasn’t fair & they were becoming unwilling to refund any money until the review was adjusted… The review was exactly our experience & It was not going to be changed but we were willing to make an adjustment to say the hotel had given a partial refund, Quid pro quo is illegal & it was becoming bribery!
My partner shared I had autism when the hotel questioned why we hadn’t dealt with the issues that evening. There were many reasons but one was because she was having a meltdown & just needed to get through the night so we could leave in the morning, it wasn’t in anyone’s benefit to be dealing with the matter whilst she was in this state & I spent the night calming her. She was told she had issues, the hotel acted highly discriminatory. Once she pulled them up on this she was told ‘you are putting words into my mouth’ and they tried to cover up what was said then they put the phone down on her! Just to add, the phone was slammed down on us on multiple occasions & we were told we were being aggressive also on multiple occasions, which we certainly weren’t!
When we got to the final stage with the hotel (we had spoken with them easily 10 times by this stage, I say spoken but the language was appalling!) I spoke to Jordon Morby to give them one last chance to issue the refund following on from the letter we received saying they would. I was called a liar & a chancer, he then told me they considered the matter closed & hung up!
The whole time we spoke with the hotel we were accused, questioned, quizzed, various words were said to us & we have never experienced anything quite like this
In the end we went via our original booking with Booking.com who equally gave them ample opportunities to deal with the matter without success. They agreed the situation was appalling and were trying to resolve it. Like us, the hotel weren’t answering the phone, responding to any emails/correspondence or able to speak to a manager (history repeating itself!) We finally got our refund after battling. It was such an AWFUL experience from start to finish, which could have been dealt with far better by management following their great response to our complaint. The hotel is currently being investigated by as it would appear there are numerous issues. Please avoid, I really can’t express this anymore than I have. To add, due to the ongoing threats regarding our review, all the information contained within this are factual & correct. All calls were recorded & all statements are true either made via writing or on the phone.
- busyissy (10/5): Excellent Hotel for wedding guests oh and the Bride and Groom too! - 100% customer Service from start to finish. We were staying due to daughter’s wedding. Reception staff rang and double checked before hand. Rooms all lovely and clean and we wanted for nothing. Definitely helped the whole weekend go so smoothly.
- Gavin (8/5): An okay stay - A welcoming hotel that is starting to look a bit tired. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms vary too much in size with some quite small.
- Donna (8/5): - Good property lovely courtyard and nice room and bathroom.
Breakfast was great.
Only thing that was missing was a bar, rather than the fridge on reception.
I would stay again and would recommend.

- gas65 (8/5): Our third attempt at finding a decent place to stay in Andover was successful - Our third attempt at finding a decent place to stay in Andover was successful. A warm welcome, ample car parking, right in the town centre with a pizza express located beneath. Pleasant courtyard to sit in, alcohol served in reception at a reasonable price, room spotless and breakfast good.
- Crystal910x (2/5): Forced to sleep on the floor, partner locked into the bathroom & tried to downgrade our room! DO NOT RECOMMEND! - HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE! I’ve lodged a complaint but wanted to leave a review for others to warn before booking… Reception gave us a twin room despite booking a double then when we asked to be moved we were told ‘I’m not sure if we have any doubles left’… Interesting considering was booked months in advance then funnily enough they found a room. If you like your mattress so soft that you feel like you are sinking into the gates of hell then sure, this is for you 🤦♀️ It was lumpy, SUPER soft, the duvet & pillows were horrifically cheap and nasty and the whole bed needs replacing as a matter of urgency. We debated sleeping in the car & in the end moved the mattress to the floor, this really shouldn’t need to happen. The hallway light doesn’t shut off so in the end my partner unscrewed the lightbulb to stop the room being lit up through the night. My partner then got locked into the bathroom because the entire handle and lock system came off/out of the door! We had to really boot the door to get it open and it had clearly been bodged a few times, this could be such a HUGE safety risk. On first glance and looking at the photos the old barn style/old beams look lovely in the rooms, but if you look more closely they are covered in a thick layer of dust and by thick I mean they haven’t been cleaned in a long long time. I’m not adverse to a bit of dust but I am allergic and my asthma flared, which has never happened in a hotel before. We left pretty sharpish in the morning to go for breakfast elsewhere as didn’t want to risk it tbh. Such a shame because it’s such a quirky place and has so much potential, but after being left with less than a few hours sleep we were so miserable and in all honesty super upset. We are awaiting a response to our complaint. I would seriously think twice before booking.
- tetisheri84 (8/5): Great receptionist - Great hotel. I was given a room with almost no window, I think I had a 30x 20 cm, rectangular window which lets almost no air in the room on a very hot day, i asked to changed this room and luckily they have a room for me. It was good that i asked for this change. I didn't have breakfast so i cant comment on this. Bathroom was good and clean. Parking is a little hard to find but i did find eventually.
I have to say the young lady at the reception was so friendly and helpful. I had to go couple times to my room on a hot day with luggage and she even helped carrying my bags. She also found another room for me.
- Kevin (10/5): - Staff were great.
- bethdown7 (4/5): Spider in scrambled eggs & faulty shower! - Me and my partner stayed in room 201. The bedroom was nice and our bed was very comfy. The bathroom is quite small and trying to have a shower was awful. The shower would only go scolding hot or freezing cold.
The breakfast was quite disappointing. The cooked breakfast is a buffet of sausage, bacon, mushrooms, scrambled egg, tomato and baked beans. Was a shame they had no hash browns or fried eggs! My partner found a spider in his scrambled egg which really put us off the food. The baked beans were cold and the sausages weren’t nice. The selection of fruit was also a let down as was clearly unwashed.
I would not stay here again.
- 656dirkk (4/5): Worst and unfriendly Hotel during our journey. - Some problems destroyed the feeling. First, they told another price at mobile phone as 6 hours later at the reception. Not fair. The reception was not friendly, and for another hotel was to late. The trash can in one bath room wasn’t empty. I think there were only new towels. The music pub on the other side of the street was very loud. Breakfast… friendly, small, bad coffee. Never again. Can not be recommended.
- davemS4941IW (4/5): Not very good - Checked in Saturday night and found they dont cook evening food. Had to eat elsewhere. Room was absolutely second rate, tiny single beds tatty windows that let in a lot of noise the head board was mashed to bits, and the bed had a hole in the middle of the mattress. For the money i pad it was terrible. I was also booked in for breakfast but as it was not served till 8AM I ate elsewhere as i had to be somewhere by then. The whole place needs a make over.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Just about acceptable stay - Chose this hotel because of the "secure parking", i.e. barrier controlled car park. Only to find the barrier up, and be told "it's always up". The window in our room is painted shut and impossible to open for any ventilation. The over the bath shower had no thermostatic control and so ran hot, cold, hot, cold.......etc. A stupid policy of only one towel in the bathroom, no hand towel. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was OK, at least they have Kellogg's cereals and not some cheap and nasty stuff. Next time in Andover I'll look for somewhere else.
- Gordon (8/5): - Bathroom clean and fresh all white, bedroom very basic and old, needs modernisation.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - It was well presented very clean very friendly staff and comfortable lovely breakfast. Would highly recommend.
- X4020DKnatashag (10/5): Andover family visit - Arrived early that morning and the lady on reception was very helpful and directed me to my family’s room so I could leave my bag and collect my room key later in the day. She give us easy directions to places we had to attend and recommendations on where to go for food and drink. It’s a great hotel and very spacious rooms with all facilities met. Very clean as well and nicely presented breakfast spread with various choices. The chef is very friendly and offered many choices to meet requirements. We had a great nights sleep with little to no noise, the bed is very comfortable also. It’s situated in a great location of Andover town with many local pubs around with one facing it called Forrester’s. We look forward to coming back again as we had a fantastic time.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful and extremely polite which is great to see ! Reasonably priced for spacious rooms ⭐️
- LlaraT (4/5): Window needs urgent attention! - Room was big. Stayed here because it was halfway to where I needed to be. Thought Andover would be a more “quaint” place!! My next stop was the cleanest modern room overlooking harbour with fab breakfast included for £20 less so feel a bit robbed here.
- Robert (8/5): - Staff and location were awesome. It was clean and safe. Convenient to shopping, and dinning.
The only problem was the shower. It would not regulate no matter what I did. It was either too hot or too cold and nothing in between. Other than that I had an excellent time.
- Geoffrey (10/5): - Big comfortable room, friendly and efficient staff, great cooked breakfast.
- Ryan (6/5): - Room for a bit tired, shower took forever to warm up room for a stuffy breakfast wasn’t great. The cook breakfast looked terrible. All dried out, stayed in the Wetherspoons next door before half the price.
- Sandra (8/5): - It was noisy with deliveries for local businesses at 6.30am but the hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff helpful and friendly
- Bertie14070604 (8/5): Central but needs work - Stayed here for a few nights. I will start with all my positives. The staff on reception and at breakfast are fantastic. A warm welcome, very helpful and nothing is too much trouble to make sure you are ok. Our room was a twin in the stables part of the hotel off the car park area. The room was beautiful, spotless clean and very comfortable. The bed was great and there was everything you need, tea coffee, water and plenty of biscuits. They don’t serve food at night but there is lots of choice within yards of the hotel. They location is perfect, it is right on the high street. The breakfast was perfect, so much choice, hot and cold. Service was great. Food was beautiful. There is a free car park with plenty of space.
I hate to provide negatives so will try and remain upbeat.
The car park is not secure, it has access from the road behind and is used as a thoroughfare from everyone leaving town and going back to the public car park behind the hotel. People also arrange taxis to pick them up in the hotel car park so the noise outside your room can and is loud at times, quite late at night. Lots of talking, laughing and shouting at times. Could be unnerving if you were alone.
The front door to the stables is secure, it has a data lock so every time someone comes in at anytime it slams and the whole building shakes. This can happen really late at night. It woke me a couple of times.
There is no bar in the hotel but you can buy a drink at reception. However there are so many pubs right outside the hotel.
Overall, this is an old place trying to do better. They have done so much but need to keep going. They are attempting to survive in a difficult world.
Also be aware the lodge is only half of the building the front half is Pizza Express.
Give them ago for a stop over or convenient base for a short break. They will do their best to make you enjoy it. Thank you for making us welcome and the help you provided.
- Yorkshirelass024 (4/5): Great location but didn't live to expectations - Myself and a friend stayed here and paid same price both a double room, my friend got a really nice double room. I was in 109 and it was half the size, very much the same as the budget room pics. The TV remote didn't work, the shower was hot or cold and the sink blasted me with water. When I finally got to sleep the pigeons started making a horrendous noise about 5am and I couldn't sleep. I spoke to reception who put me on the top floor, I had a room with a view over andover high street. It was much brighter but my outer window was wedged open by an inch and wouldn't close. I was thinking how bad it was if there was a fire, it was ceased so I wouldn't be able to get out. There was what looked like a pube on the bed and my bath was full of water when I arrived? The room had a dripping tap and the plug was shut. Felt a bit grossed out emptying the bath.
Bed was comfortable enough, location is great and car parking was good. But other than that wouldn't stay again.
- ben (10/5): Benjamin Jon Beard - Had a lovely stay, was a drop of the hat booking. Lots of shops if you have forgotten anything. Staff was lovely especially Chris the night porter who couldn't do enough to help.
Was biker friendly also due to the weather they let us stay an extra hour.
The Breakfast was 2nd to none and breakfast staff where lovely didnt know the lady chef but she was very helpful and kept me loaded with coffee" she knows who she ls! Reception team again very helpful and kind. My partner and I almost wanted to stay another night, will book again when I the area. Kind Benjamin Jon Beard
- Sidney (10/5): place to stay in Andover - Great Hotel, have stayed before and not let down, would recommend.
- Alison (8/5): Lovely hotel but request to be away from entrances - Nice clean comfortable twin room in the stable block so accessed from the car park. Due to location the front door has a code lock, this is fine and easy to use. Our room was right next to the door which meant that every time somebody entered or left it slammed shut. Not great early and late. There is a sign in the wall as you enter asking guests to be courteous but it would be better to adjust the door and tell people on check in to close quietly. It was the only downside to our stay as the room was great.
- G7191UYclairew (10/5): Next time we’ll come here! - I just wanted to leave a review to say a huge thank you to Emma, the deputy manager at The Star and Garter. We were locked out of another local hotel and she could not have done more to help us find a room (at 1.30am!). She was so supportive and friendly which was exactly what we needed during a pretty rubbish situation. We really appreciate you going the extra mile to get things sorted. Thank you ☺️
- lucy (10/5): - Second time staying here would stay here all the time, great staff, great rooms loved every minute
- Alan (10/5): - Excellent gluten-free breakfast. 👍
Very noisy pub just outside the window. ☹️
- Mark (4/5): No WiFi - The reception team and restaurant team are very friendly but a big negative is that despite claiming WiFi availability, it is effectively non existent throughout all rooms and the main building; this was confirmed by the staff. It made it impossible to work from the room and so is a showstopper if you’re a business traveller
- Fiona (8/5): Good Stay - Clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was good with lots of choice.
- Lucy (10/5): - Property was lovley room was more then expected had a great stay staff was more then polite all around a great stay, ill be booking again at the end of the month
- Verified traveler (6/5): Needs must - Lovely friendly staff. The condition of the building is in dire need of upgrading.
- Fiona (10/5): Great Stay - Large comfy and clean room. Great beds and had everything we could need - iron & ironing board, hairdryer, toiletries etc. Breakfast had lots of choice and food was great Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.
- Lucy (10/5): Best breakfast - Amazing staff and so helpful. Best breakfast i have had in a hotel or b+b.
Didnt sleep too well as not used to a softer mattress. But would stay again.
The scrambled eggs were divine
- Paul (10/5): Ideal location with car park - great value too - Always a pleasure to stay right in the centre in a comfy bed
- Gary (10/5): - Centrally located in Andover with its own car park, which is free for residents. Staff are really friendly and helpful, they really go the extra mile and are a credit to the hotel. Buffet style breakfast with so much choice.
- MrandMrsHolmes (10/5): Excellent stay - First time staying here after using other hotels for 20 years. Very handy in the centre and a free car park. The hotel was very clean and all staff friendly and helpful. The room was warm and comfy with everything you need. Breakfast was excellent with good quality food and plenty of choice. Will Definately be staying again
- joeski39 (10/5): Short visit. - Visited Andover for a short break and stayed at the star and garter.
Pleasant hotel very clean and tidy plus very friendly and helpful staff made our stay all the better.
Nice cooked breakfast and a very handy location in the town center.
Would stay here again on our next visit.
- Pat (10/5): - Good location, very convenient for town centre, staff very welcoming, rooms very clean
- Wendy (8/5): Pleasant Stay - I had a pleasant stay. The bed was comfortable, the shower was good, and the hospitality tray was well stocked. The staff were very helpful. I would stay here again.
- Tony (10/5): - Really enjoyed our 2 night stay at this hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff & good room. Lovely selection of food on the buffet breakfast and very attentive young chap waiting on the table. Could not have asked for more.
- Alexandra (6/5): - The hotel was average, but it was in an excellent location for us for a wedding reception at Keystone Hall.
Our room was large and I got the one I requested at the front with a bay window. It was quite noisy on a Saturday night , but I was warned of this. We only received one bath towel each. No hand towels. The only toiletries were on the wall. Liquid soap and shampoo. The shower was over the bath. The room was quite expensive for one night with no breakfast. You can have breakfast at the hotel for an extra cost. We went to Wetherspoons for breakfast, it was two doors up from our hotel.
- Michael (10/5): - Great stay at the Star and Garter, clean, tidy and great value for money with a friendly staff. But watch out for the hot water as it is very hot!
- Gemma louise (6/5): Perfect location and staff - The location is great, it's quite unfortunately it was incredibly hot in the room the fan was the slowest weekest fan possible, especially with the sockets bring so far from the bed it wasn't possible to both reach the cool air to sleep, it was very difficult to sleep in such a hot room with winter quilts, and do under sheet.
- Lawrence (8/5): - Good
- robert (10/5): - central location, parking, clean with friendly staff
- Mick (6/5): Very Average hotel - Served a purpose,
- Philip (10/5): One night stay before highclere castle - Nice clean and friendly hotel, we stayed as a base to visit some local sites of highclere castle and the bombay saffire distillery.
Rooms were clean and bed was comfortable, and you have tea and coffee facilities.
Breakfast was good and served buffet style.
There is no bar or restaurant on site , but there are plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby.
Overall a good stay and would recommend.
- Trevor (10/5): - Good value accommodation with easy access to town centre. Room self contained and very quiet. Breakfast very good. Parking very convenient and well marked.
- Anne (6/5): Great staff, but overall a bit disappointing - Firstly, the staff here are excellent. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful.
However we had a couple of issues:
* we booked a twin but got a double and no twins were available. This was fine as I was travelling with my young son, but did make the stay less comfortable.
* both my son and I slipped on the non-slip mat in the bath and I have a corker of a bruise on my leg
* breakfast was generally fine but the bread was frozen which made the crusts really hard.
The room was a decent size, a bit warm but there was an a/c unit in there which we really appreciated.
- 491allant (8/5): Comfortable hotel, lovely staff but spoilt by noisy location. - I really want to like this place as it appears to be making an effort to survive in these difficult times and all the staff were great. We stayed on a Saturday night and had a top floor room (206) overlooking the pedestrianised old High Street. The windows are very large floor to ceiling with old and somewhat decrepit secondary glazing. If it’s warm it’s difficult to cool the room off and as others have reported the noise from the nearby pubs and music venues is very loud even with the windows closed. The music stopped at midnight but then a variety of foul mouthed drunks were shouting and bawling until nearly 3am. No signs of the police doing anything what so ever to maintain law and order! I had a sleepless night despite ear plugs but my wife slept through everything! The room was large, the bed comfy and the bathroom fine. The breakfast was an excellent buffet and the chef would cook your eggs fresh if you asked. The car park was great and easy to find if you followed their instructions. If like me you are a light sleeper then try and get a room way from the high street especially on a Saturday night. Andover could be such a nice place to stay but for me it’s spoilt at night by the over powering music and too many drunken yobs which clearly are not the fault of the Hotel.
- Nicola (6/5): - Location was great, within walking distance of lots of eateries.
- Simon (10/5): - A single-night solo stay for an early start the next morning. Room was clean, comfortable, quiet and spacious, although it was odd that there was a dehumidifier in the room with a vent out of the window! Reception service was excellent. No restaurant at the hotel but there are plenty of dining options nearby, including a Pizza Express at the front of the hotel. Didn't have time to try breakfast. Would stay again.
- Cat4091 (8/5): Anti negativity review - I am irritated by people who leave reviews about no air conditioning etc.
I wanted a few days away with my partner and searched for the cheapest option and this is what I got.
There is a really nice atmosphere in this hotel. The staff are helpful and friendly and relaxed and that makes a difference to the ambience.
The rooms are very clean and although small, they have comfortable beds, good linen and a clean bathroom with bath and shower.
The breakfast is exceptionally well organised and tasty - and you can have a choice of eggs if you request it.
I’m not sure what else you could ask from a budget hotel but I would suggest if you want more pay more money!! I was more than happy. Thank you team
- Keith (10/5): Warm welcome - Warm welcome, room was comfortable.
Clean everyday.
Very happy to book and stay here again.
- Malcolm (2/5): - Disappointed
- K (10/5): Wonderful place to stay! - Such a lovely old building with great character - we just wished we could have stayed longer. The lady on reception was so polite and helpful, wish I had taken her name (only know she was from the caribbean). Cosy, warm, clean and an excellent shower and very well placed right in the town centre.
- Michael (10/5): Great place - Lovely friendly place .. enjoyed our stay . Lovely breakfast .lovely friendly staff . Will go back
- Mary (10/5): Great Hotel - Another great stay at this hotel, a big thank you to Emma and the team for going the extra mile for us.
