Guest Reviews
- Rose (8/5): - Hotel is conveniently located near Place de la Bastille. Surrounding lots of cafes and restaurants. Near to Metro. The hotel is small with around 20 rooms. Room is quiet, small and cozy. The toilet is in white and clean. The only downside is the area outside the lift on each floor. It can be quite dangerous if not careful. However, the hotel encourages the guests to use the staircase.
- Vasty (10/5): - It was a great location and the property staff was amazing. We loved it and we will be back.
- Nancy (8/5): - Even though the room was tight, the bathroom was well thought out and provided space to store all we needed.
Wish there was more room between tables at breakfast time and that the front of the hotel looked more inviting. Needs a little TLC.
- Kenneth (10/5): - For the past decade I have always stayed at the Hotel Bastille when I come to Paris at least once or twice a year. I like the location which is a minutes walk to the Bastille Metro Station and is an easy walk to the Marais district. The price per night is very reasonable considering its great central location. The staff (under new management since 2024) are still the best, who are most helpful, welcoming and willing to chat. Not much can be done to improve the layout of the hotel which has a tiny lift or spiral staircase to reach the levels. The rooms are small, but spotlessly clean and tidy. On arrival we had been allocated a room at the rear (which is quiet) but we preferred and requested a room at the front, overlooking the busy street. I was told it was noisy on the front, but I said I didn't mind as coming from a big city like London, I am used to street noise, so it didn't bother us. It was thoughtful of the check-in to make us aware of this. The front desk is staffed 24/7. We didn't sample the hotel breakfast (hot drink and Cousant I think), but preferred to go to one of several nearby bakers' shops. I can't wait to look forward to our next visit to Paris and the Hotel Bastille.
- Hugo (10/5): - Room was very clean and conveniently located.
- Garrett (8/5): - The amenities list A/C but it isnt available, everything else was fine
- Mark (6/5): Everything good except outside noise - This hotel is excellently placed right on Bastille metro surrounded by lovely cafes and restaurants and on the edge of the Marais. It is newly renovated and the staff are absolutely delightful. The bathrooms are a good size, the rooms as one would expect in a Paris hotel. New linen on beds and very good housekeeping. Lovely breakfast available. Convenience store is opposite.
Now here is the problem and I'm sorry it is a big one. A group of men congregate from mid-morning opposite the hotel and talk LOUDLY. This goes on and on until literally dawn when they seem to disperse for a few hours. This affects your sleep here, badly. If only it wasn't so! Everything else about this place is marvellous.
- Thomas (10/5): - Desk people were kind and helpful. Room and bath, though small were clean and modern. Ber was very comfortable. Though little, the street is busy and noise could sometimes go far into the night.
- Greg (10/5): - Good value
- Amber (8/5): - Hotel Bastile was a nice stop on our Paris trip. The staff was friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Fred, as he made sure we had a great experience in the neighbourhood.
- Kenneth (10/5): - As we are frequent stayers (usually twice a year) at the Hotel Bastille we were greet with open arms by the friendly staff. The location is great and this is a no-frills hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Better options available in the neighborhood - We spent three nights at this hotel and despite being on a strategic location to visit Paris we had to endure constant bad humidity smell in the room and corridors. It would take very little to keep the place take some air.
Unfortunately, we also struggle with the room service as tv did not work and ended up without proper soap for the shower in the last two days.
On the positive side, we were lucky enough to not get a room on the street side because it would have been extremely challenging to sleep at night considering the type of people that you find on the street and what happens at night.
- Ligia (6/5): - It was a great location.
- Kenneth (10/5): - The Hotel Bastille has been my choice to stay for several years. It is now under new ownership, and the staff have changed, but it is still a friendly hotel with a great price for a central city location. This visit I stayed for 5 nights and the room was at the front of the building. Double glazed windows eliminated the street noise (rooms at the rear, which have stayed in on previous visits have no view at all and look onto a plain painted wall, but are extreemly quiet. I would recommend the Hotel Bastille, but be aware of the tiny lift (elevator) and the extreemly narrow twisted stairs to all floors.
- jean (10/5): - Hôtel très bien situé quartier vivant,
Veilleur de nuit Joseph extra.
- Tristan (8/5): - Our time in hotel Bastille was very pleasant. We were only there for 3 nights. We were welcomed warmly by a member of staff as we entered the premise.
The room itself was adequate. It was a little of the smaller side and when we first entered the room there was a slight smell and a dark coloured liquid in the toilet that I assume was cleaning fluid. Flushing the toilet and opening the window cleared it up pretty quick. There was however a stain on the bed and a hole in the chair we were provided.
We didn't have a view as the window faced on to a wall, but that might have been beneficial as there are a few bars and late night eating locations around, so we managed to avoid any late night noise.
The venue does offer breakfast for €10 but we didn't partake in that. There is many places around that you can get food.
Special shout out to the night staff member who welcomed us back every night with a smile and lots of lovely chat about whiskey and took a keen interest into what we had done with the day. A lovely man who made the stay there even better.
Overall of you are looking for a nice hotel that you don't plan to stay in for very long but offer a good night sleep.
- Jan (4/5): - No A/C, but it was advertised as included. Bathroom sink had 30 cigarette burn marks. Outside street was so noisy. We barely got three hours of sleep. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
- Tasfia (2/5): - One of the worse place to stay. They ruined my stay in Paris. Booked a double bed room, and that room AC wasn’t working. It’s been broken quiet long time as you can tell. Complained several times to fix the AC or change the room. Front desk mentioned that they are working on the AC and it will be fixed in an hour, after an hour the person went missing and of course AC wasn’t fixed. They mentioned that they are having issue with central line but front desk AC was working and top of that they didn’t had central AC. The room I stayed had single separate AC. They don’t have central AC system. They fooled the tourist and don’t care about the service. We asked for fan they couldn’t give us a fan. After my husband got mad than they provided a fan. On the Ad they didn’t mentioned that AC wasn’t working. They did a false Ad also didn’t changed our room. The front person was very rude. Really worse service. It was 80 degree outside and we stayed without AC and from that me and my husband both got sick. When we asked for refund or discount they didn’t provide that either. This management should be sued for false ad. Seems like this AC was broken for a while and the management is not fixing it. I would never recommend anyone to stay at this place. It will ruin your stay. And extremely small room. When I asked for refund, front desk person start yelling at us, he confirmed that AC was broken before we checked in and but they didn’t mentioned it to us when we checked in.
- Thalia (6/5): - It was good for two days, but the air conditioner was broken and it was kind of hot in Paris. We let know the staff and they didn’t fix it for the days we were there. We slept with the window open because it was no other option. Also, they didn’t provide toilet paper
- Masanori (6/5): - Too small for 2 people.
- Maria (4/5): - Dirty
- Andrew (8/5): - Nice cozy room. We didn’t spend much time in the room other than sleeping as we were out exploring the city. It met our requirements and needs.
- Leandro (8/5): - Staff are friendly, you will find all you need for a simple stay.
- David (8/5): - The hotel was basic and the room small, but it was clean and comfortable. As a base it was perfectly fine. The location has a range of shops, but the best part was the staff who were very good. I recommend as a good base for a stay a few steps from the Metro
- Andrea (8/5): - Good service from people at the entrance
- Louisa (4/5): - Everything was really unsatisfactory, lift could fit 1 person & 1 small case at a time.. then when you get to your floor there still are stairs to get to your room & the lights turn off half up the stairs, so dangerous, I stumbled & gouged my arm. Do not stay here!!
- Johann (10/5): Belle découverte - Hôtel simple, propre et bon rapport qualité prix
- Lou Janssen (2/5): - BUYER BEWARE
Reviews claiming this property to be clean are NOT true. Photos are dated & misleading!
There literally was sh*t left on the toilet brush.
The pillow covers & bed sheets were dirty, as if they were not changed from the previous tenants.
The property claims that it is smoke free, yet this is the first thing you smell once you enter the premises, & when you enter the room.
We could not sleep, as the stale smoke triggered our nasal allergies.
We obtained assistance from Expedia regarding relocation; we were told by the relocation agents to check out and not pay anything; we asked the Expedia relocation agent on what to do if it triggers conflict (which it did). At check-out, we were detained (false imprisonment by hotel staff); the hotel staff insisted on speaking French only knowing full well that it is not my first language. He was rude, he was aggressive, & we felt aggressed. He even threatened to call the police.
I got an agent at Expedia (not a relocation agent) but obtained no help at that moment. The frontline Expedia agent insisted that they speak to the property first, compromising our personal safety. The agent said to call police, but (a) it would take a while before the police got there, and (b) that there was a strike in Paris at the time.
I have never been yelled at this much, we were accused of being the scammers! Made a judgment call & paid the amount demanded by this scam of a seedy "hotel" & dealt with the damage later.
- CRISTIAN (10/5): - Esta muy bien situado
- Bárbara Robertson dos (6/5): - It was clean and close to the metro, but the room doesn't have any amenities (minibar, iron, hair dryer...). The elevator is tiny (it can fit 2 slim people) and you still need to use the stairs when leaving the elevator. The staff was helpful and the area has bars/restaurants/market around, but what I didn't know is that the area can be reeeeeeeeally noisy at night from Thursday to Sunday. So if you're light sleeper, not a good place to stay.
- Uta (8/5): - The room was pleasant .Loved the balcony.Bathroom very proper ‼️Missing Hairdryer and Kleenex .Lobby very poor and is frightening !One should remember first impression is very important‼️Staff very friendly🫶
- Elizabeth (8/5): - I stayed here for 3 nights. The property is small but the rooms are basically as pictured on the website. It's not the most luxurious place I've stayed but it was clean. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway as we were more focused on sight. It's a good place if you need a place to sleep and a clean shower. It has restaurants and a Metro station nearby.
- Alex (4/5): - The AC barely worked and bathroom was very poorly equipped.
- Verified traveler (8/5): It's OK - The hotel was ok-a little hard to find as the signage wasn't easy to spot.
- Max (8/5): - The hotel Is located in a very active part of the city with lots of dining and close access to the metro. It is housed in a cleanly renovated older building like most properties in this area of Paris. The staff is great and was helpful to us on several occasions.
This is a no frills place and the amenities are commensurate to the price per night. The size of the rooms are quite compact but we’re what we were expecting and needing. Our room was a back facing one that had a window facing another back of building so the view was not much to speak of but the window opened and allowed for fresh air.
The place is cleaned and reasonably well appointed for the price. The only issue we had was our bathroom (although clean) had a pretty consistent musty smell. We kept the AC running to help air it out but it seemed to be there pretty consistent through our stay.
I would recommend this hotel as a cost effective stay in a good part of Paris.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super Lage, kurze Wege, Metro 2 Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The room is very dusty, the scents of the room is too strong, no dryer.
- Sharon (8/5): good location... but - Hotel very small - cheap & cheerful location great but decor needed updating- wardrobe & bathroom doors loud & very creaky !
Also be aware that this is a very noisy street at the weekends till 4am
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location is perfect, easy walk through Le Marais, Notre Dame, Metro plenty of restaurants and cafes in the area. We changed rooms to two single beds so we could have street view, no view, if you choose double bed and reception was very accommodating. Beds super comfy. We weren't disturbed by noise and had window open. Bathroom very clean but had a slight damp dank smell at first. A comfortable stay and room for bags. Merci Cheers
- Angela (4/5): Noisy stay - Couldn’t sleep at all very noisy with drunk peoples outside hotel all night
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not recommended - Firstly, I booked a twin room, but Double room with a big hole beside the bed.
Then, claimed this and introduced the 2nd room.
There was still someone staying.
Finally, got a twin room.
It was ok.
Looks clean, but I had a insects bite all over my body.
Location is perfect but really disappointed.
- Sylvain (8/5): Great location at the heart of Bastille - Idéal location near Opéra Bastille. Fortunately we had a room at the back, so it was very quiet.
- Emrys (8/5): OK - Everything was OK. The facilities matched the price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The gentleman at the front desk went above and beyond to help, and always with a smile. He made our stay wonderful
- Dee (2/5): - This place is terrible: the room was tiny with no refrigerator, no aircon and had a mouldy bathroom that smelt so bad we checked out a night early. The staff had minimal English (less than enough to check us in or out) except for one guy and our room was not serviced the first night. The ad states a lift but we were not offered use of it or assistance and instead carried our bags up a sloping, winding staircase.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Location near Bastille Metro line was good. They tried to charge us a second time when we’d already settled payments months ago through Expedia, we resolved this. Rooms were small and there was some noise from the bustling street, but expected as per earlier reviews. Bathrooms were alright and looked to be reasonably new. Unfortunately we didn’t feel that safe as we checked in around 12pm and used the bathroom in our room before heading out for the afternoon, when we returned someone had clearly used the bathroom in our “locked” room as there was a cigarette butt (we don’t smoke) in the toilet bowl, didn’t bother bringing it up as we’d previously struggled with communication with the front desk staff (perfectly polite, just language barriers).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location. My room was quiet (thanks to being at the rear of the building). Yes the lift is small but that is very typical of hotels and apartment buildings in Paris. I would be happy to recommend.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location provides good access to the metro, and is also good for walking to many of the tourist attractions. That also means that it is very noisy at night. The rooms are not air-conditioned, so very hot. There is Wifi, but it is not secured.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - So clean, and location is good. But there is not air conditioner in the room. I stayed in July, it was very hot.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, decent room and bathroom, clean and simple. The only issue was the front door of the hotel locked at night and you needed to call a French number to ask the concierge to open the door but our phones weren't able to call internationally so that was a bit of an issue. Otherwise, I'd recommend the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Really close to travel connections and really affordable price
- Bryce (6/5): - Very small room with no view - but clean and modern. In a very busy and not so salobrious part of Paris (just off Bastille roundabout)
- William (6/5): - The location was perfect. The room was clean. Services were minimal. As I departed for my flight to New York There was no coffee available @ 6:30 am, contrary to what I was told. Everything on the first floor was dark. There was no ice available nor refrigerator.
Concierge was pleasant, but none of them knew important details about directions, airport bus & train service, etc.
- Hilary (8/5): Excellent location, good value. - Three nights. Bastille is excellent... Metro 5 straight to Gare du Nord (Eurostar), 5 mins walk to Marais, 5 mins to Promenade tea planted & amazing workshop galleries, loads of buses as well to/from sights. Rue de Roquette is narrow, busy. Hotel great value. Remember Paris hotel rooms are small as buildings often narrow. 24 hr concierge, bathroom superb. Double glazed but a bit noisy if window open... although we enjoyed view. Great breakfast and late night eats around. House keeping excellent, crisp white sheets & towels. I have paid nearly 50% more just for a better street... not necessarily a better location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - At first I wasn't sure about the location, but it's so close to the metro and you can get to all the major spots in a stop or two. Very convenient. The views from the room are quintessential Paris. Good value. Recommend for sure.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quirky - steep stairs 4th floor
Street noise til late
Reasonable value
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The white french front desk clerk was amazing! he helped me get on the proper Metro train, and that set the stage for me being able to navigate the metro stations for the rest of my trip! Location is great!
They do not have face cloths in the rooms!
The street side rooms, can be noisy with Street traffic, but the hotel itself is quite quiet!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - perfect for short stay really accessible to metro and cafe/restaurants around Bastille
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location to transport & highlights of the city were the advantages of this property
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It is located near a metro station very easy to have access to Paris city center and connections to all the airports by train, the property is at a very active place
Many restaurants and bars nearby, in front of the hotel they sell great crepes and delicious food.
It is a very small hotel but for one night it is enough
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were friendly, and due to cancellation of our Eurostar train, they went out of their way to provide use with an extra 2 nights in the same room in the hotel. The location is excellent, only a minute from the Bastille and a short walking distance to the Marais district. The room was small, but was decorated to a high standard and was very clean. The price was very competitive for its central location. I found the bed a little short, but it was comfortable. Highly recommended for a few nights stay in the centre of Paris.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I have ever stay in such poor hotel and room
quality in Europe big cities. ie: the hotel lift only
can accommodate for 1 pax with 1 pce
small luggage only which serve for 6 levels hotel
customer
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The hotel was just "okay". The walls are paper thin, I could hear everything in the flat next to mine. There was a long black hair in the bed. It would have been helpful if the front desk person could have spoken just the very basics of English to get us checked in. He didn't speak ANY English whichi is absurd for someone sitting at a front desk of a hotel. Despite not being able to speak English, he was quite pleasant. The neighborhood is very shady/dodgy, even during the day but especially at night. We stayed over a Saturday night so we got to see the worst of it, probably. I would not recommend staying in that area if you have small children. I'm a seasoned traveler but didn't feel quite safe there. I wouldn't stay in that area or that hotel again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I am from india and I strongly recommend this hotel coz of its location staff cleanliness and just bedside metro station bastille
- Maria (8/5): Nice stay - The gentleman in reception was fantastic!! A real pleasure. Very helpful and friendly.
Small property but well located clean and tidy
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Do NOT stay here. They do not speak English and the hotel it terrible
- DianaD (8/5): - It’s an affordable and efficient enough place to stay in a busy area with a lot to do. There’s not anything very memorable about it. Rooms are small and clean and bathrooms are new. Downside is there is a lot of street noise on the weekends. Front desk guy was sleeping in the back when I came home at 2am so I couldn’t get in the building for an hour. Smallest elevator ever. You definitely get what you pay for. Worth it if you’re on a budget.
- Sagiv (10/5): Great value hotel - Great area and comfortable little hotel! Super close to the Bastille metro, which makes getting around easy, and near all sorts of great cafes and restaurants. Staff is very nice and the room was cozy and warm.
- Ladan (6/5): So so hotel - I can say the staff were very friendly and the room was clean, however, the location of the hotel was not good. We were in the middle of a very busy street and could hear drunks and homeless people talking and yelling all night long. The elevator in the hotel is fixed to stop in between floors so we had to get off and carry the suitcases up a very narrow and windy steps.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Budget Hotel Paris - This is a small hotel in a busy part of Paris, the room was clean and functional. Check in was quick and easy. The comfort level rated was primarily down to the noise both from street level and adjacent rooms; doors etc. Given the price and location it very much suited my requirements.
- Allister (10/5): Smashing a VERY clean little hotel. - Despite some of the reviews here about noise, this area of Paris is a place where a multitude of people come to have a night out so, you can't have failed to be aware of it with a little pre-booking research. The flip side of that is that there are a multitude of great bars and restaurants within minutes of your hotel and a handy little Monoprix right across the street.
The staff (including the cleaner) are just really nice people and the rooms are spotless. The room was tidied and fresh towels provided each day. The late check-out at 12 pm was a bonus on our last day. The metro (Bastille) is less than a minute from the front door of the hotel. Wi-fi was great too.
Overall, an immaculately clean and friendly place to stay with a host of venues to amuse yourself right on your doorstep.
- Charles (6/5): - Overall, this place has a GREAT location. The metro is literally across the street and you can get anywhere. The staff was not very helpful as they did not speak ANY English(like most of the people in Paris). We were supposed to have a 430am taxi that the front desk NEVER called for. We lucked out and were able to walk down the street and flagged a taxi from across the street. The room was very clean, the bathroom was decent, and although there was no safe nothing was missing from the room. But still when traveling abroad it definitely puts your mind at ease to have a safe in your room. Overall would not stay here again, but it is not a bad place, on the cheaper side in a pinch.
- Stuart (4/5): The hotel is centrally located but very small - This hotel was ok but no more than that. The stairs and stairwell were steep and very narrow. There is a lift but only fits one person in if you also have luggage. The room was very small but it was clean.
- Burl (6/5): Great location and I would stay again. - Great location. The streets are very loud late night. The room was small but livable. Bathroom was great. Service on weekend and nights just ok. Hotels.com promise airport shuttle. Not true. Prices are better if you book directly with hotel.
- Michelle (4/5): The outside noise is unbearable - A listing of the Pros and Cons.
CONS
It is literally across the street from a very popular night club.. and all 5 nights of our stay there was crowds talking and a lot of singing (YES, SINGING) until 5.30 am... every day even Monday. It was dreadful.
No air conditioning or fan in the room, and when it's warm, and you have the windows open... the bar noises are incredible.
It is a VERY small room.
PROS
The front desk guy(s) are super nice...
It is very clean and newly renovated.
Showers were clean and warm.
Rooms were clean
- Kate (6/5): Nice location and room, but too loud for sleeping - The hotel was very nice, but the windows and walls are terribly thin. We couldn’t sleep until 3-4 am when all the bar patrons left the area. The hotel was perfect in every other way, and it was a convenient location. It’s hard to enjoy your stay in Paris though when you’re very tired. I’ve attached photos of the view from the windows of the street below mid-day (less noisy).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Small but decently comfortable room, but we only stayed one night to catch a flight to Portugal next morning. It was fairly affordable and near to public transportation.
- Andre (6/5): You get what you pay for - I needed a fairly cheap hotel this time and here's what I thought about it:
Service: The two guys were nice, and one spoke English and the other tried his best. Housekeeping only came once out of 3 nights. If you are going out to party they lock the entrance and you have to knock to get in, and hope that the attendant hears you.
Cleanliness/condition: It was a clean room and in pretty good condition.
Comfort: The room was really small which I knew, the bed was okay. They DO NOT have wash cloths! You will have to wash with your hands, bring your own, or use a large hand towel like I did and dry off with an extra small towel. You also have to ask for a iron and ironing board and hope that they can find it.
Local area: The location was AWESOME! It's located on a street filled with bars, cafes, shopping, and the Metro is 1/2 block away.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Unsure whether the hotel is legal, no ID card was asked, very small rooms compared to the fake pictures. The tiny room is clean but nothing to go with what you expect. Also when opening the itinerary on Expedia it says 5 stars, this hotel has no stars. The city tax was paid and no invoice was given or printed back. You should remove this option from Expedia you are misleading your clients with it
