- carolyno679 (10/5): Excellent and accessible stay at a unique resort - Accommodations are excellent for a wheelchair User. The pool was very accessible with three different pool chairs. The ADA rooms were very comfortable and the room with Roll in shower worked really well. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. The one improvement I would suggest is to have more handicap parking closer to the main entrance as there were only two handicap parking spaces close to the main entrance. The grounds are really lovely and you really feel like you’re surrounded by a nature. With minor changes, more of the trails could be accessible for wheelchair users. The boardwalk is accessed by going down a gravel somewhat deep path.
- Jeffreycrigler (10/5): Great stay, nice accommodations, good dining options. - You need to fix the kitchen faucet in Cabin #2 and the blinds on the upstairs bedroom. Otherwise this was a great stay, highly recommend.
- 668rolandc (4/5): Reasonable 1 time stay, but not likely to be a regular unless a golfer. - We stayed here over Mother’s Day weekend, and overall it was fine, but not really somewhere I’d consider a must-return. The property itself is nice, and I could see it being more worth it if you were there specifically for the golf course, but as a general resort stay it was a little underwhelming. We did try to make use of the amenities outside of golf, but for the prices, they did not really impress us. Biking was $56 for the shortest rental for two kids, kayaking was $20 per person per day, and the paddle boarding was especially disappointing. They only had two paddle boards total available, and while kids could use them, but they did not really function for adults, so that amenity was basically unavailable for us. Food was also just a little more expensive than I would have liked for what it was. The pool and hot tub were nice and were probably the main redeeming part of the stay. That said, the pool bar/food stand being closed was annoying and made it less convenient to spend time there. On our second day, a lot of people came through the resort for prom photos, and it made the atmosphere feel much busier and less relaxing than expected. There was also an issue with a guest at the pool who got into a loud verbal confrontation. Staff did speak with her, which I appreciated, but the situation did not really seem to be resolved. She continued to be loud and confrontational around the pool afterward, and later that evening by the fire she was still being loud and abrasive. I know resorts can’t control every guest’s behavior, but it felt like the situation needed to be handled more firmly since it continued affecting the atmosphere for other guests. Overall, it was a nice one-time stay, but less relaxing than we hoped. I’m glad we checked it out, but I probably would not rush back unless I wanted to try the golf course.
- Traveler12615795923 (10/5): Great place...if you are not having dinner. - The resort is beautiful-- gorgeous grounds, wonderful trails, splendid buildings, airy and inviting. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. We are by no means golfers (we're birders) but the golf course looked absolutely great. Rooms OK-- expected a bit higher grade, given the rest of the environment. Lighting in bath was that contemporary flourescent outlined mirror, seen now everywhere- but useless. We must have been too early in the season, as some of the amenities were not available, like the boat rental. And now...the food. Not good, actually bad-- overcooked, dry, in all three restaurants. Really disappointing, given the rest of the resort. If we come again, we will eat elsewhere.

- stephaniebA7394WR (2/5): Find Another Resort! - The worst experience I have ever had. No valet parking. No assistance for handicapped guests and only 2 handicapped parking spots. Had to push my luggage uphill with no staff help! Could not get waitresses attention to be seated at the Stillwater Restaurant! Waitress was so rude and unprofessional, I had to ask for a manager! There was NO manager on duty! The mechanical engineer was the acting manager, really? The bathroom smelled of mildew so bad it triggered my asthma!

From the time we checked in to departure the staff was always very friendly and helpful as well as attentive. Will be back for a relaxing weekend with my wife and family in the very near future. We didn’t even have to call to get help he was walking by our room with his tools. He told us it was a great place and told a few stories before he left and gave us lots of good advice about life in general.
- BrianG2152 (6/5): Stonewall Resort has potential to be great but unfortunately is just ok - We have stayed here 3 or 4 times. The resort property and surroundings are gorgeous. The rooms have only been partially updated. The shower/bathtubs desperately need renovation. The buffet breakfasts and dinners are plentiful but the food quality has deteriorated and is just ok. (Fresh made omelettes are an exception- they are great). The golf course is beautiful. Unfortunately we played just after the fairways had been sanded. Our cart broke down on the 14th hole and it took over 45 minutes for them to get us a new cart - with no apology or help in loading bags. For the most part service was good at the resort, but not at the golf course. Prices have been going up and value for dollar dropping.

I mentioned this to the front desk and was not offered an apology or any recompense, just that they would have it looked at.
- N8212FZkennethw (10/5): Great Annual Golf Getaway Weekend - We've been coming here over 15 years for golf weekend on the wknd of the NFL draft. 2 from Buffalo and 2 from Charlotte drive 5 hours each for golf, the Draft, playoff hockey and more golf. Stay in a cabin, cook and eat like champs in our own space. It's a great time and Thank You for all the service, mostly in the Pro Shop. Mike, Jacob, Hannah, Morgan, Zeke and Wayne all a class act!
- BHS2004 (8/5): Great weekend getaway - We had a lovely romantic getaway - friendly staff, fantastic food (we ate at all three - Lightburn’s has a new chef and apparently a huge improvement from the last, get the cherry jalapeno chicken - trust me!) For an entirely booked weekend it only felt busy on one night with a confluence of prom, conferences and resort guests (suggest you check the room bookings and make OpenTable reservations) For such a wonderful natural environment, it would be icing if the resort just finished some details - the shower heads are wholesale builder grade, the gym feel of the indoor pool screams to be painted with a pretty lake and mountain scene, a no event weekend of scraping, repairing and painting would make the entire resort look attended to and refreshed. We’re already planning a return trip and hope to see a little sprucing up. Thank you - the lake did its thing!

It was outdated, overpriced, the beds were horribly uncomfortable with probably the cheapest mattresses on the market, the kitchen appliances were dirty, and there were no extra bed or bath linens.

- Q2705UPjerryc (10/5): A mini Springbreak - We stayed in a Lakeside King room. The kids stayed in a double room and found it cozy. The king room was very nice and roomy. We had dinner at TJ Muskies bar and grill. The grandkids found things they enjoyed as well as the adults. (pizza, chicken tenders and burgers). We spent the majority of our time at the indoor/outdoor heated pool. The view and atmosphere by the lake is awesome. The kids took advantage of the s’mores around the campfire. The room and beds were quite comfortable. We ate a delicious breakfast in the morning at Stillwater. Again there were choices for kids and adults. We very much enjoyed our time there.

Campground was very noisy at night time, Never saw security patrolling, and the bath house and restrooms were disgusting. We were told that Swimming pool and hot tub access was complementary with camping as it should be considering the price of Campsites. We went to the pool to find out that we had to pay to have access to the pool and hot tub. The only positive was the campsite itself was beautiful and had a beautiful view of the resort and lake..

- G182LKbeths (6/5): Cost does not equal quality - Hotel Review – Recent Stay Overall, the property itself remains attractive and well-maintained; however, the amenities and guest experience no longer align with the hotel’s price point or overall quality. Key Concerns: Amenities & Service Access * The coffee shop is consistently understaffed (only one employee), resulting in impractically long wait times. * Room service is inconvenient to access, you must search for the menu online while calling in your order. Printed menus should be available in each room for ease of use. Guest Safety & Room Assignment * As a solo female traveler, I was assigned a room (259) located far from the front desk and on the first floor. This raised safety concerns. * Hotels should avoid placing solo female guests in isolated or ground-floor rooms whenever possible. Room Comfort & Cleanliness * The room temperature could not be adjusted to a comfortable level. At 68°F, it remained too warm, which significantly impacted sleep quality. * Cleanliness was inconsistent: there was a black hair in the bathtub upon arrival. * Lighting in the room was insufficient, making it difficult to work. Arrival Experience * There were no doormen or assistance offered with luggage (e.g., carts), which diminished the overall service experience. Overall Impression: This was my sixth stay at the hotel, and I’ve noticed a clear decline in the quality and accessibility of amenities over time. While the staff remains friendly, helpful, and professional, the overall guest experience does not currently justify the nightly rate.

- MattA199 (8/5): Anniversary Trip!! - The Stonewall Resort is a really nice resort destination. We visited in March, so unfortunately the trees/ vegetation/ flowers were just recuperating from winter. I am sure the resort is beautiful through peak season. There are ample walking trails, just outside your door. We enjoyed the spa and the outdoor heated pool as well. Both of the restaurants at the main lodge had good food and great service. Our one bedroom, standard king room was well equipment and comfortable.

Only draw back we have was the loudness of the live music, but that was understandable as we were quite near the stage. Overall we will be returning to this resort again. I have been coming to this lake since I was a kid, and I have loved seeing it grow and being able to enjoy it with family and friends.

- DrewNation (4/5): Used to be a great hotel, degrading without concern now - We have been coming for a few years with each year feeling that the hotel is degrading slightly. We go over the Christmas period on route to Florida as a stop over. It was a good stop for the kids as they have an indoor/outdoor pool that is massive. The indoor part has a rusting and eroding ceiling and there seems to be little interest in fixing it. The most recent visit had me decide that we won’t return when my daughter woke up in the middle of the night saying the bed smelled of pee. We shook it off as we were all exhausted. When we woke up we dug In to find a large urine stain under the sheets on the mattress. It looked to be an old stain that was just never cleaned or removed. The tipping point was when I advised the front desk on checking out the response was “I’ll let housekeeping know”. No apologies or concern of making good. I then decided to submit an email to the manager and didn’t receive anything back. Maybe they are going through a tough period with the business but the lack of concern and communication was enough for us to check out for good.

The library one is my favorite. The landscape I can get lost in and the wildlife to see is refreshing. Staff is genuine, joyful, helpful. Room with a view over the lake and up toward the clubhouse highlighted my every morning.

- V2793TCrods (10/5): New Year's Eve Grand Ballroom Celebration Event - My wife & I haven't stayed up for a New Year's celebration in decades and this year decided we would experience Stonewall's New Year's Eve event in the Grand Ballroom. The decor, event decorations, food/drink & music entertainment was top-notch and we had a wonderful time. So glad we went that we booked a few more days for the July 4th celebrations held on Stonewall property as well. Nice job to the Stonewall team!
- 751britneyr (6/5): Outdated rooms, everything else was nice - For a state resort, your rooms are severely outdated. The hvac systems are noisy. You can hear neighbors through the walls. We thought our bathroom counter was dirty. We could see cup rings and hazy spots all over it. We tried to call front desk and housekeeping. No one answered at either location. We walked down to the front desk and she knew about it and said oh it’s not dirty it’s just stained. She didn’t even let me get to the part about there being little hairs on the counter or the fact that the tile in the shower is black in spots with mold. We were in room 363 for reference. We stayed last year too and had pretty much the same experience and opinion with the terrible outdated rooms. On a positive note, your rooms are slightly better than Oglebay!

The meals (we only had the buffets) in Stillwater’s were well prepared. The rooms were comfortable and stocked with adequate towels and paper supplies for our entire stay.
- E7728ULricks (10/5): The new Lake Houses at Stonewall Resort offer a special option - Have been to Stonewall Resort before and love the awesome mountain lake scenery, the food/service and facilities. Easy to access right off I-79 just south of Weston, WV.. Really a special place to visit anytime. You'll be impressed. Until our last visit I did not realize how nice the new lake houses are to rent. For another level of family privacy and luxury I highly recommend that you rent one of the 2-3 bedroom lakeside houses. The comfortable accommodations, the amazing porch views and the nearby fire pit offered a special stay. These lake houses are the best way to go at Stonewall Resort!

We had a great day Saturday and that evening till we went up to our room and all the slamming doors and yelling . No sleep for me that night I was on edge so bad I just couldn't rest. With all the good that we had it took just a few hours to make it a stay, I feel the resort let us down.

- BOBFurgiuele (8/5): Wonderful stay. - This was our first stay at the resort although we did attend another murder mystery there last year. The resort is beautiful and very well maintained. The staff were great , very friendly and helpful. We had a late lunch at T J Muskies . I had a burger that was wonderful and my wife had a salad with grilled chicken that was also great. The meal served at the murder mystery was just ok portions were on the small side and temperature was not optimal. We also had breakfast before check out at Stillwater’s . The buffet was good with a lot of options. Again some temperatures weren’t optimal but over all a good value with a lot to choose from. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to seeing you guys again soon.

- D1531MYryanj (2/5): Terrible experience. And even worse customer support. - We stayed Saturday November 22nd through the 23rd. . This was our first time staying at the resort. The property and lodge were beautiful and inviting. Unfortunately our experiences there were not so much. We had a large pile or dirty linens with dirty tissues on top in our closet.(picture included). The sheets had something all over them as well as there was 2 flats sheets instead of a fitted sheet. So half of the night , we were practically sleeping on the bare mattress. . We dined at Stillwaters for dinner on Saturday. The service was absolutely terrible. The attendant for the buffet was nowhere to be found half of our meal in order to serve the prime rib, and our waitress was scarce as well. We had breakfast there as well in the morning and everything was great for that meal. Lastly, we had arranged a late checkout of 1pm with the front desk so that we could enjoy your lovely pool and hot tubs. When we returned to our room at approximately 1220 , our key card no longer worked. And the housekeeping staff in the hallway asked if we had a late. Checkout. When we said yes and our card would not work . They both just turned around without saying anything else and ignored us without even a hint of helpfulness. I had to go to the front desk, in our swim clothes, in order to have it reprogrammed. Needless to say . We are not very impressed with our stay. We heard a lot of good things about your facility. Unfortunately we did not have the same experiences.

My grandchildren enjoy riding "the bus" (shuttle) to go to the pool. They also like swimming outside!! The children loved the bouncy house and one grandson made a gingerbread house.

I would definitely recommend one of the cottages or houses, they sit in a relatively private setting, with great lake views, and they’re pet friendly!

- cmc4802019 (10/5): Great Thanksgiving Experience - This was an ideal location to spend Thanksgiving with kids and dogs. When we arrived the Xmas decor was up and I loved spending time in the lobby area just to take in the holiday spirit. EVERY single person who works at this resort is very friendly and helpful. The dining was great and we really enjoyed the offerings at the Thanksgiving buffet. The kids loved the pool and it was so much fun to swim outside in the hot tub while snowflakes were in the air. It is amazing how clean this hotel is... considering that it is dog-friendly.

The Thanksgiving buffet was wonderful, and the view from Lightburns was very nice. Holiday decorations were perfect for getting us into the Christmas mood. And everybody was very friendly.
- Trail20011693703 (10/5): Just what we were looking for - My wife and I consider ourselves very picky about the hotels at which we stay. This resort exceeded our expectations. We found our king room spacious, clean, and well-maintained. Our view of the lake was great. The beautiful Christmas decorations went up overnight during our stay. Downstairs the bar and grill was one of our favorite places due to its cozy 360° fireplace and a staff that took great care to cater to my wife's food allergies. We had the honor to meet the most charming and worldly 91 year old gentleman who frequents the place and chatted for quite some time as we enjoyed our delicious dinner. The next morning after a nice breakfast buffet, we walked the expansive property as the maintenance staff busily tended to minor building repair and groundskeeping. This was our first stay and we hope to make more in the future.

You need to have some morning coffee or starting at 6:30. I knew you had somebody that supposed to show up at seven, but they don’t show up on days when they don’t have any business that’s not how to run a business. The food was overpriced. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was worth the price, but it wasn’t.

- Passport49895051962 (8/5): Good stay, Cold pool and poor pool towels. - The pool was really cold three out of the four days we were there. The last day was so cold we couldn't get in. The towels for the pool are very, very thin and do not absorb at all. Higher quality towels would be much better. They only want you to take one towel per person, but that will not even dry a child.
- Trek64825871075 (4/5): Dirty rooms and bad food. Not worth the money. - Stonewall Resort was dirty and underwhelming. When we checked in, we realized that our room was lazily cleaned. There was food from previous occupants on the floor, the bathroom towels weren't even fully folded, and we found what looked like seeds on the rim of one of the glasses. The bed was not fully made, with 1 very thin flat sheet thrown over the mattress (not even tucked in to emulate a fitted sheet), and 2 flat sheets sandwiching a thin duvet thrown across the top. The food at both downstairs restaurants was disappointing. It all comes from one kitchen, and it was apparent that whomever was in charge of cooking the meat was not skilled. My husband's burger the first night was overcooked (he asked for medium and it was a hockey puck). The second night, we both ordered steaks. His steak came out still raw in the center (looked like they cooked it from frozen), and my steak was completely raw throughout. We sent them back. The lady at the table next to us also had to send her undercooked steak back. When our food returned, the steaks were cooked better, but they had removed food from my husbands plate (grilled onions) and had not put it back. No management came by either table to discuss the returned food. We tried to visit the restaurant at the golf club early in the evening (cocktail hour time), but were turned away because they had ONE reservation coming in later in the evening. The party took up 2 tables in the entire restaurant, but we were told they could not accommodate us, not before the party came in, and not even to get a drink at the bar. There were 2 or 3 other couples dining already, so it was really confusing and disappointing that we were so harshly turned away, especially when it wasn't peak dinner time and the reservation was not present. The weekend we went, there were multiple conferences and a wedding happening, which meant much of the resort was "reserved" for special events during our stay. Restaurants were tied up with event meals. The bar downstairs hosted the wedding for cocktail hour/drinks on Friday night, which made it inaccessible, and they took over the outdoor fire pit area as well. Then the entire entry and main space of the resort was closed off for the wedding the following evening. We felt like we had to skirt around these large groups and were not able to fully enjoy our stay because there was always an obstacle that prevented us from doing something. We couldn't even walk the path along the outside of the building on Friday due to event set up. Overall, we feel as though we paid way too much for the experience we had. The food was sub-par, the cleaning was half completed, and the resort overstretched itself by hosting so many groups, and cut off a large part of its resources for them. The resort sends texts to check in throughout your stay, and when I responded with my complaints, there was no follow-up from anyone in management. When I spoke to the front desk when we were checking out, she gave us the appropriate contact information for dining and housekeeping concerns, and was so kind and understanding. We do not plan on returning or recommending Stonewall Resort to anyone in the future.

My experience this time was also a good one; however… The resort itself is beautiful, but the rooms are overdue for a renovation. It appeared that there might be renovations going on further down the hallway from us(?), so hopefully the room we stayed in will soon get its fresh face. WV in October is always a gift, so we were happy to be in such a beautiful environment. It’s perfect — but the room was dated & dark. We still enjoyed our stay though.

The atmosphere is peaceful and we love the fire pit in the evenings with the comfortable chairs to sit around. The workout room is decent and you can get a pretty good workout there while you’re relaxing. It was cooler weather so we chose not to hike, but the trails are beautiful We really enjoyed dining in Stillwater‘s restaurant. The food is very high quality and well prepared, very delicious and we love the buffet with such a wide choice of foods. Our goal was to rest and relax, and we accomplished just that perfectly, at Stonewall. Highly recommend.
