Guest Reviews
- Craig (9/5): Friendly comfortable lots of character great staff - The hotel was very nice and comfortable we like a place to have history with old property’s very clean and clean it’s all the amenities they have a brilliant restaurant I would rate 5 stars ***** Just been nice if the restaurant and bar was open later
- Andrew (6/5): Just ok for me, nothing more - Didnt eat here, although I have been told the food is good, Comfy bed. nice looking room Room cold, no way of switching on the radiator, came on itself in morning. I didnt realise you needed a code for the carpark, so couldnt get in when i returned later that night. Bathroom needed updating, its a bit tired.
- Fifi-jayne (8/5): Pleasant - Staff were super helpful and friendly. Room was big and mostly clean. Breakfast next door was very good- although on the pricey side for a takeaway breakfast. Would’ve liked maybe a small fridge for water or more then 1 water provided as there was no shops close by.
- Becky (9/5): -
- David (6/5): I think I've stated that in your questions - Food smashing, room was cold, stairs dangerous, staff great, we asked a low floor room , but had to the 3rd or 4th floor as we are old people, I would eat there again but not stay the night Stairs dangerous for older people , as my wife has a bad back . Room was cold window left open and no heating on , bed not good.
- John (10/5): -
- Sally nicola (8/5): Loved that we could have a drink and relax - The staff were very welcoming and treated us very well A chair in the room would of been great as we were only there one night and did not want to use the wardrobe.
Luckily also we are able to climb stairs but I had not studied the layout therefore it was a surprise.
- Carole (9/5): Enjoyable stay room very clean and comfortable - The New Boar does not offer breakfast which is the only fault with the place. There is a cafe nearby but this doesn’t open until 8.30 Breakfast provided
- Carly (9/5): perfect for us - surpassed our expectations! - Room and bathroom were spacious and clean, large comfy bed - staff could not be more helpful and friendly - such a pleasurable stay! We dined at the restaurant too, which was lovely.
- Desiree (10/5): Excellent service - room and local to our event we were attending - We were really pleased with The New Boar Inn - staff were friendly and amenable even found us a spot to eat in the private hire room because there was an event on.Our room was spot on warm on arrival and even throughout the night ! We could make our own hot drinks that made my day seeing Yorkshire Tea bags ! The best - the en-suite beautiful-the little snacks and refreshments- would love to come back in the summer
Thank you to all the staff for all the hospitality- excellent service ! There was nothing not to like all was very good
- Charley (10/5): Great value and location - Great location and staff were all really friendly and helpful. Plenty of car parking spaces. Nothing
- Christopher (4/5): Overpriced, Dirty - The Location was good It was expensive, the room was dirty, no 24 hour support and no breakfast, ai would not recommend to anyone.

- Andy (5/5): Would go for drinks and food but the rooms need an update. - The atmosphere was fab! Great food staff were really attentive would recommend for drinks and food. Our room was great a first glance but as we got settled there was some cleanliness issues dead flys in the bathroom dirty sink scum around the bath and then we emptied bath and wouldn’t drain so removed the plug and it was full of hair! Shower door was on the wrong way and leaked all over the floor and the shower seal was green with an algae.
Kettle didn’t work
And had an ironing board but no iron.

- michael (8/5): Lovely stay will be back - Very clean lovely staff very nice restaurant Room was very hot
- Tony (7/5): Good -
- Stephanie (10/5): Excellent overall x - Clean, everything you need Exceptionally warm, blinds on window not fully private
- Erika (6/5): Nice hotel, friendly staff but lack of breakfast lets it down sadly. - Lovely pub, friendly staff, good food, good sized room. I wasn’t aware that breakfast wasn’t on offer. I was told that there is a cafe next door that you can use for breakfast, however, this had closed down. When checking the description of the available
facilities on booking.com, it does state that breakfast is provided in the room so they may want to amend this. As a business traveller with a 9am meeting the next morning, it wasn’t ideal.
Lots of traffic noise and with it being so hot, it was uncomfortable not to have the window open.
- Amanda (4/5): Disappointing - Location Rooms smelt of smoke hot and windows didn’t open
- Jerris (9/5): Superb - i did not have meals on the stay. the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. everything was great

- Fiona (8/5): Very good -
- Jackie (7/5): Good -
- Adam (5/5): Passable - Overall room felt tired. Mattress well past its best. Lumpy and hard leading to a poor nights sleep. Rooms feel like they were done up 10-15 years ago and nothing has been done or changed since. For the room cost, well below expectations.
- Jeremy (4/5): Disappointing - Location was good for party at the Golf club up the road. Room was so tiny, it was also filthy dirty fire alarm cables across the floor, smoke detector not fitted in the correct position, we would not have booked this if we had seen the room before hand.
In the morning all the doors were open to the other rooms on our floor as they were being cleaned and they looked much larger even the cleaner said we had the worst room.
- Eve (7/5): Good -
- Joanne (9/5): Superb -
- Janet (6/5): Pleasant - Staff very friendly and accommodating Toilet door didn’t close. A bit noisy
- Jacqui (7/5): good for a one night stay only. - lovely people, excellent food room was smaller than expected, bathroom door was hard to close, only 4 hooks for hanging clothes.
- Wendy (6/5): My friend left her fit flops in the room & when we called they advised house keeping had not found them! - Lovely room. Absolutely freezing on arrival. Had to take Hester out of wardrobe to earn room up. Very cold. Staff were not very friendly
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (8/5): Nice place - Nice, big comfortable room and en suite. Road noise

- Mrs (9/5): Great comfy stay, pub is absolutely gorgeous downstairs - Room was incredibly spacious, huge super king comfy bed, bathroom had both bath and shower. Manager was really helpful too - booked us a taxi to the wedding when we needed it last minute All good!
- Georgia (8/5): Very good -
- Graham (4/5): Won’t be stopping there again - Comfy bed Greeting wasn’t very friendly, strange guest in opposite room
- Ronald (6/5): Fine for an overnight stay. - The pub and resteraunt are very nice. Nice big bed, clean and tidy, well decorated. N o breakfast provided. The room was very basic, no dressing table, no wardrobe, just some hooks on the wall, Alright for one night.
- Deidre (9/5): Superb -
- Anita (8/5): Cosy and everything under one roof - Lovely place. Traditional and modern in one. I was able to sleep and eat in the same place. My room was small, cozy, and comfortable. The staff were very kind and helpful. Bar and restaurant were great. The food was delicious. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe. It was an excellent choice. Very small detail - the drawer of the bedside table would not stay closed. The music downstairs is audible, but it stops when the restaurant does.
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (5/5): Good enough - Location They called me on Sunday afternoon to say we must check in by 7pm. The booking clearly stated 10pm.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matt (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (8/5): Lovely stay for a family wedding. - Lovely well decorated room and the staff were lovely.
Great food in the restaurant and loved the Robbie Williams tribute Very noisy with traffic most of the night.
Room also smelt a bit damp and we noticed a stain on the bed sheet
- Toni (5/5): 3 star for a reason. Noisy and not the place for a good night's sleep. - Closeness to wedding venue we were attending.
Size of room. Right on busy road. Windows old and hard to open. Felt like the cars were in the room. If you want to sleep stay somewhere else of take earplugs. You can hear everything from talking, sneezing and taps running in other rooms. Floor moves when you walk on it. Carpet filthy on close inspection. Dead flies on sink. Dead flies on outside of shower. Not cleaned to a great standard at all. No one checks you out just put key in a box. Lacks personal touch. No help with bags to room. Above a pub so again noisy. Only two small bottles of water. Had to fill kettle from sink and you could only half fill it. Ridiculous.
- Alison (5/5): Enjoyed supper served purpose to get somewhere close by following morning but would not recommend! - Food was ok and staff fantastic Noisy nights sleep sounds like you have s motorway in your bedroom so impossible to sleep!
- David (6/5): Pleasant -
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kaysie (7/5): Good -
- Pavit (10/5): Definitely recommend. Would stay here again. - The staff are great. Very welcoming and maintained a high effort to achieve customer satisfaction. Nothing to improve on. My experience was excellent.
- Joanne (8/5): Comfortable and quiet. - Room 2 is beautiful as maid, who was friendly and helpful was keen to show us and suggested we returned, we stayed in room 4 which was standard. A comfortable stay and very quiet! It was a lovely venue in a quiet village.
- Lara (8/5): Very good -
- Gary (8/5): Very good - Great location , spacious room , great restaurant and food , happy caring staff!! No aircon
- Charlotte (10/5): I would stay here again - road noise!
- Samantha (9/5): Superb - The Mattress on the bed could have been better, it sunk in the middle and was very thin.
- Helena (10/5): Exceptional - Stayed here to attend a wedding in Loughton. The room was very spacious and clean. Felt like we were staying in someone’s home it was very cozy. Staff was very helpful, offered to open the laundry machine for us as my dress had a small stain. No AC so had to have the window open to air out the room. No breakfast option.
- Jackie (9/5): Superb -
- Georgina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thompson (8/5): Very good -
- Ann (7/5): Good - Lovely staff
No breakfast on offer
Excellent dinner Zebra crossing orange light outside bedroom window would benefit from a shield as the orange light flashing all night was not good
- Helen (8/5): Lovely pub, small and homely, great staff, fab restaurant. - Great location, parking and lovely staff. Restaurant food was amazing. Very noisy road so internal glazing would help, also decent blinds as the pelican light right outside the window was flashing in my eyes all night!
- Abbi (10/5): I was filming nights for a week and slept until 1pm. I was not disturbed and had the Deli next door. - Breakfast was not offered at the hotel but it was available at the Deli next door. The bed was far too hard for me so I took my own mattress topper, then it was perfect.
- Graham (7/5): Good -
- Brenda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kayleigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (8/5): Very good -
- Patrick (8/5): Very good -

- Paul (10/5): Lovely quality, shame no breakfast option - Very clean, tidy and modern Breakfast option would be nice. Nothing not to like.
- Gavin (5/5): Passable - Lovely people and great restaurant The room was very dated and clutted, shower kettle, etc. was not clean. Also I would not have cushions all over the bed unless they are regularly washed
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (10/5): Both evening meals we had were very nice and the staff were also great. We will certainly be back fo - Both myself and my wife are registered blind, and we had a fantastic stay at the new bar. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially Holly. Nothing was too much trouble.
- Marie (9/5): Superb -
- Shields (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Good rooms, nice bar and restaurant area
Room clean and well maintained
- Clark (1/5): An awful experience and the excuses falling short of any logical explaination. - Nothing... the hotel was closed and locked when I arrived and I was unable to contact anybody to establish the reason. I managed to contact 'The New Boar' the following day and they suggested that they had taped a phone number on the door and kept the phone on until 21:30. Furthermore, after calling into the The New Boar to establish the truth, it was stated that the accommodation is separate to the restaurant/bar and this part of the business was closed. Nothing makes sense. Not only is this a totally unreasonable suggestion, but no attempt was made to contact me. They should not have accepted the booking! Finding the hotel locked up and not being able to stay! Thankfully, after much searching, I was able to find an alternative hotel 12 miles away.
- Cheryl (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Beautiful hotel in pretty village - Beautiful room ..had a feeling of real luxury .very quiet and Comfort bed Nothing!
- Joan (8/5): Cosy, comfortable, clean - Lovely decor, clean, very busy as it is the festive season Good location
- Lee (4/5): Restaurant was lovely and lovely meal. Not impressed on hotel room - Actual restaurant perfect- food & atmosphere- excellent staff .
Nice clean white towels in room We had to climb to 2nd floor up steep stairs.
Room smelt musty- carpet wasn’t clean- found liquid capsule on floor. Bed was quite low & although top looked nice, bottom sheets weren’t finished off. Radiator was rather dirty inside. Bathroom floor looked dirty, toilet brush was dirty. Shower leaked onto floor as glass wasn’t fitted properly. Noise in corridor from other residents talking. Loose electric socket near lamp
