Guest Reviews

- Michael (10/5): wonderful trip - Bed was comfortable. Plenty of hot water for the shower WIFI was weak and intermitant
- Cuauhtemoc (7/5): worth it and good value for money - location, cleanliness, the staff was kind and honest, travel agency inside the hotel with good offering and competitive prices room a bit chill (I stayed there in June), the room does not have hairdryer nor iron, the breakfast at the restaurant was below average
- Oliver (8/5): Very good - Location is great. Staff was nice and friendly. It's okay, you get what you pay. Nothing more, nothing less Internet was low and bad and phone signal is extremely low.
- Riccardo (9/5): Superb -
- 97anic (8/5): Great location. Basic clean room - Had a ground floor courtyard room. A little noisy as have a restaurant dining area in courtyards. Windows did have internal shutters but of course good for night but cut light during day. It was quiet after around 10.00. Room good clean not huge. Bed comfortable. Bathroom water took a white to get hot but was then good temperature. Great location. On the street that closes at 9.00am to only foot traffic.
- Katherine (8/5): Brilliant location and good value for money - Very well located hotel on the main street close to all the cafes and shops and main plaza, within walking distance of all the main sights and the bus station. Rooms are located around a lovely central courtyard. The room was well appointed with tv and ensuite. Staff were very friendly. And the room happened to be available when I arrived early in the morning so they let me check in. Because the rooms are located around the central courtyard which is also a restaurant you can hear the noise from the courtyard in the rooms (or at least the room I was in situated on the ground floor in the corner of the courtyard). This ended by 2200 or 2300 so wasn't a problem but imagine it could be if customers are eating late at the restaurant.
- Philip (8/5): Great location and accommodation. - Good location, nice courtyard, staff very friendly and helpful.
- Kelly (7/5): Good - Location Small rooms
- Camila (10/5): Exceptional - The location, is over the principal street
- Emily (9/5): Perfect location with extremely helpful staff - Extremely helpful staff. Perfect location. Great recommendations for what to do in the city. No balcony or external window but not an issue for us
- Oscar (3/5): Poor -
- Alejandra (10/5): Wonderful location, excellent service. - The bed was really comfortable.
Location was right on the center of downtown in a quiet zone. Super peaceful place, and great design.
Staff was really nice and helpful.

- Rosanna (8/5): Amazing location and friendly staff! - Perfect location - right on the main pedestrianised street of the city with lovely bars, restaurants and shops just moments away. My room was comfortable and cosy with a large bathrooms The staff were all really lovely and kind! I was travelling alone but I think the queen bedroom I was staying in would be quite small for two people. Because of the size of the room, there was no bedside table which would have been nice to have for water, my book, phone etc.
- Dave (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (8/5): perfect location, comfortable and clean, reasonable price, restaurant is ok but as in most of Mexico the service is pain - location and cleanliness staff weren’t overly friendly but helpful when asked
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - Great location on main street, 15mins walk from bus station. Quiet room on upper floor with (almost) private terrace. Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant on site if required Nothing, all good
- Andrea (1/5): Terrible wifi and horrible customer service; ripped off - Loved the location. It's in a very central, busy area. Main attractions are within walking distance. It's a 3 star hotel so we knew not to expect anything outside of the basics. However, the wifi was terrible. We needed it for work. We thought it was the area, but we went to a restaurant two doors down and the internet worked wonderfully. Now, the worst part was the lack of customer service and getting ripped off. The hotel staff failed to provide us with maps or tell us anything about the town, they didn't inform us of their restaurant, or tell us that they closed their door at a certain hour at night. We walked back to our hotel a little after midnight. There was no intercom or doorbell. A street vendor had to tell us to knock very loudly so we could be let in.
On March 25, 2023, we asked the female staff member working the reception desk for a taxi. We wanted to visit Chamula and Zinacantan. She stated that she'd have to call a taxi to ask for the price and told us it would cost $900 pesos for his services. We said it was expensive, but she said he was providing a tour service. The guy did nothing out of the norm of a regular taxi driver. In Chamula you can get a cleanse for approximately $100-$150 pesos. He told us he could give us a cleanse for $2500 because he comes from a family of healers. We declined. We spoke to others in the town and were told that a taxi to both towns and back should have cost us about $250, $500 max. The hotel also referred us to a taxi company to pick us up from the airport when we landed in Tuxtla. That company charged us $1800 pesos. Once we talked to others, we learned we should have been charged $800-$900 maximum.
We understand we're tourists and that the price is going to be a little higher, but to refer us to so called "taxi" companies that are charging tourists double the price is outrageous. We've traveled to various parts of Mexico and the hotel staff have generally been helpful and have informed us of what things/transportation should normally cost.
- Keanu (9/5): Superb -
- Katarzyna (8/5): Very good -
- Edith (9/5): good place - Perfect location , on pedestrian street , but the rooms at the back part are quiet. hot & cold drinking water on each floor i was lucky to have room at top floor so view & sunshine on the patio
- Charlene (8/5): Very good -
- Renée (10/5): Wonderful stay in a beautiful old building, close to everything. - Great location, close to everything. Lovely patio whe re we enjoyed a really nice breakfast. We were lucky to get the highest room in the building (room 44) which was really spatious and full of sunlight.
And the beds were sooooo comfortable!!!! Nothing. We loved it
- Emmanuel (10/5): Perfect place to enjoy San Cristobal. - good location, nice and comfortable. Friendly and Professional staff.
- Charlene (8/5): Very good -
- Kseniia (9/5): Superb -
- M (7/5): Very good value but a bit loud if you’re on ground floor - The room was cozy and clean. It’s in a really central location and close to everything. It’s also 15 min walk to/from the ADO bus station.
The housekeeping staff were respectful & the reception staff were helpful.
There is a restaurant so if you don’t want to venture too far for a breakfast, it’s just a few steps away from your door.
We bought some breakfast and coffee and sat at the terrace upstairs one morning, which was lovely seeing the surrounding buildings from above.
All around would recommend staying here! The room was on the ground floor so it was facing the courtyard, which is a restaurant space open to the public from breakfast time. It can get noisy from the general sound of people eating and chatting. Try to get a room upstairs if possible.
There was a wooden shutter for the window to shut light and sound out but it makes the room feel a little closed in.
- Gavin (8/5): Perfect location, beautiful building - Perfect location, beautiful building, clean rooms, nice staff We had a room on the courtyard and it was a bit noisy (I recommend asking for a room which doesn’t open onto the courtyard)
- Dana (9/5): very good - the location the crew don’t speak English at all!!!
- Avigailm19 (8/5): Very good - Location location location!!
The staff are great. Very nice ppl
Hot water in the shower 🚿
Good coffee ☺️ At first i stayed in the rooms downstairs - it was so noisy.
When I move upstairs it was less noisy but you still hear ppl talking.
There is no heater in the room, and the sheets fells some time damp.
The room is not for 2 ppl. Take the bigger one.
And in the upper rooms the curtain transparent so there is not so much privacy and there is light from outside
- Yuval (8/5): Very good -
- שני (10/5): Exceptional -
- KateSamara (6/5): Good value esp if you get the right room - Solid place, great location but courtyard rooms are loud in the morning, tiny and dark. If you get room 43 or 44 that’s a jackpot. Gorgeous and bigger plus views. The negative is you’ll hear noise from street at night.
Location can’t be beat and probably more quiet than other hotels so centrally located.
- 762jeang (8/5): Great location - The Casa Margarita is on a pedestrian street and a short walk brings you downtown. It's right next door to a lavanderia where if you bring in clothes early in the morning (before 8 as I recall), you can get them back the same day.
One night our neighbors were noisy and kept me awake.
The hotel doesn't have breakfast but there is the delightful Cafe Lupe right across the street where you can get hotcakes, etc. I'm sitting right now in the courtyard, which is beautifully tiled and the decorations for the Day of the Dead haven't yet been taken away.
It takes a while sometimes for the water to turn from cold to hot. I loved the heavy heavy blanket that kept us warm at night
- lyndah595 (8/5): Old fashioned hotel with great courtyard - Lovely location, lovely courtyard. Rooms are clean, small in size and cool but thick blankets provided, makes for a cosy sleep. Rooftops area for views and relaxing. Plastic Water bottles provided in rooms which is unnecessary, as water fountain available. Tea and coffee available in the morning. Nice helpful, staff. Plenty of food choices nearby.
- 142mercedesa (10/5): Great Experience - Excellent location and service
Visited Feb 10-15 2019 the rooms are clean and lots of hot water everyday. These are prehispánica homes converted to small hotels that have a courtyard in the middle. During winter the rooms are cold but they give you enough blankets to keep you warm at night. The hotel is situated in a corridor where there is only pedestrian walking no traffic so at night it is quiet and the morning gathering for coffee may awake you if you have a room around the courtyard. I loved everything about this hotel centrally located and within feet of everything you need restaurants, coffee, shops and booking your tours. I will definitely return to this majestic town and hotel casa margarita.
- NicholasP885 (8/5): Great location, friendly staff, quiet yet central - Great base for exploring San Cristobal as you can walk anywhere easily.
Rooms are clean and comfortable and ours at least was quiet (we were well away from the street)
Nice safe feeling place with friendly staff.
- califcasl (8/5): Two became fourteen - I came here for two nights and stayed for two weeks. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean. Pretty courtyard. Lovely rooftop sundeck with great views. Good location near sights and restaurants. Fast internet. Rustic rooms.
- 39sergk (10/5): Beatiful nice hotel - Great location near the center. Very clean, neat, 24 hour desk. Hot water and comfy beds. Overall great hotel to stay. Homie feeling and decent prices. Only down side is that the lighting is a little dim in the rooms.
- Carlagis (10/5): Great Familiar Hotel - It was an excellent place to rest. Comfortable. We spent 4 days in San Cristobal. Is near to downtown. In Andador
Guadalupe. There are many stores, restaurants, cafeterias. You can find clothes, bags, backpacks with traditional design of indigens people. Nice hotel it's my recommendation.
- Funambulator (10/5): Small friendly Casa on lively thoroughfare close to Zócalo - Good location on Calle Real de Guadalupe, a street packed with a range of comida choices including Argentinian parilla. At night Guadalupe had a real buzz, street buskers, music, people strolling up & down. Hotel has nice ambience, attractively decorated courtyard, garden setting. Rooms were small but well kept. Staff very attentive & happy to help you. Handy & attractive painted map of Chiapas State on foyer wall.
- mplsberg (10/5): Great little hotel - This is a lovely small hotel near everything you'd want to do in San Cristobal but not on a bustling, tourist street. When we were there, it was amazingly cold and the staff was very helpful in providing a room heater and extra blankets.
- NikkiH2OH (8/5): Loved it. - I’m so glad we stayed here. Beautiful little hotel. Nice clean rooms, warm cozy beds, and located on one of the fantastic pedestrian only streets so no cars! Only downside was spotty WiFi. They offer delicious coffee and sweet bread in the courtyard every morning and there’s tons of good food within walking distance if you are looking for more options. Hotel is in a great location for wandering around San Cristobal. You can book excursions right from the hotel. They have an office for that directly to the right when you walk in the door.
- darrens793 (8/5): Tour stay - This hotel was the tour stop and has been the best hotel so far! Staff so friendly an accommodating and rooms were supplied early even though hotel was full, so job well done to housekeeping staff. Free tea and coffee available to 11.00am. The rooms are small but the bed was superb and the most comfortable I have experienced so far in all the cites visited.
- aligeekay (8/5): Small room, great location - This hotel is in an excellent location - there are plenty of fantastic shops, restaurants and cafes in the immediate vicinity and it's a short walk to sights such as the square, churches and the market. The big courtyard was very convenient for meeting up with our tour group as well as for sitting and chatting with friends. Our room was quite small, however the beds were very comfortable and there was very little noise from outside. Other people in our group had quite large rooms so they aren't all tiny. The funny window placement means that sometimes you can hear conversations from other rooms.
Sometimes people who were selling things on the street came in to the courtyard to try to sell things to us, which I found a bit weird and invasive - it's one thing to fend them off when you're walking around town, but you'd think you could be left in peace in the courtyard of a hotel. Wifi was patchy.
- Letty33 (8/5): Great location - This hotel has a great location! The staff is very friendly, the room is not that big but not small either. Hot water, no problem. It's a colonial type hotel. The safety box did not work but there was no need. I carried everything with me as the town is safe. The only complaint that I have about this hotel is that I could hear the conversations of the other guests. There was a sign on every hallway that said " please be quiet" but the guests were noisy
- peripateticously (8/5): Great Location - The hotel is on Andador Guadeloupano (one of the main streets in San Cristobal) - great location with lots of bars and shops close by.
The rooms are a bit tight in erms of size but there is a great courtyard (however, sometimes in the mornings some of the other guests hung out there and made quite a racket without consideration for other guests).
The wifi is slightly sketchy
- travellingduo11 (8/5): Great location and hotel - We really enjoyed this hotel! It can get noisy with inconsiderate guests at night but the hotel itself was great! The roof top view was lovely, we had one of the rooftop rooms with a beautiful sunset view. There is a lovely cafe as you walk out of the hotel, to the left a few doors up to have breakfast and the town, well you're basically in it. Beds were very comfy and wifi worked well. Would definitely stay here again.
- CricketGirlD (8/5): Recommend this Hotel - The Hotel Casa Margarita is in a great location. Our room was located on the 2nd level and was large and clean although a little dark. There was no safe but there was 24 hours coffee/tea available downstairs which we did not encounter anywhere else in Mexico. The WIFI only worked in the foyer on the ground floor but it was a lovely place to sit. A friend of ours had a room by the stairwell and said it was noisy so potentially avoid. We would stay at this hotel again.
- FernandoN477 (10/5): A great choice to stay - I stayed in this hotel for 3 days. After looking on Internet and asking in different hotels once I arrived to San Cristoabal this was the best choice to stay. It is very close downtown where the streets are so lively. They have some cheap price on their rooms and all of theri rooms are clean, colonial and beautiful.
People in front desk are very friendly and they can show you a room without staying, just for you to see if the place is what you are looking for.
I requested to stay in one of the 3 floor-quite places and the front desk person accepted without any extra charge. people that stay in the hotel were very respectful for people that want to sleep early and wake early to take an early tour. (it didint happen in some other noisy hotels where I stayed)
Just the rpoblem is that they do not have a good wifi, but the hotel is totally recomended if you want to keep touring and just stay at night.
- C4931KJjohnp (6/5): Central location for exploring the town - Stayed here for two nights on tour of Mexico. Staff very friendly and free coffee available in courtyard every morning. Hotel is centrally located on pedestrian street in centre of town. Within easy walking distance are the markets, churches and all the museums. Fall out of the hotel and there are restaurants and cafes of all types within metres. Rooms are basic but clean with warm beds since nights here can be chilly.
