Guest Reviews
- Jean (8/5): - Convenience to the port
- Margaret (10/5): - Excellent location beside a tram stop which made our journey from a cruise ship really easy.
- Dave (6/5): OK, but would stay closer to city center - The hotel is located about a mile away from the Bordeaux city center. There is a metro station in front of the hotel, so it’s not hard to get around. The hotel is clean and there is a refrigerator in the room. We were there three days and on the first two days we were woken up by someone pounding a hammer to repair floors. Also, the WiFi would only connect to one phone in our room at a time.
- Joseph (10/5): - Attention to service and customer relations
- Aniruddha (8/5): - Was conveniently located and easy to get to.
- Richard (8/5): - We were looking for a hotel near the river to spend the night before the departure of our river cruise. As it turned out, we were able to walk from Hotel Vatel to the docking location of our ship (right next to the skateboard park). Hotel Vatel is conveniently located near a tram stop from which the town center and neighborhoods with more dining and shopping options are only a few stops away.
- Stanley (10/5): - The staff was extremely helpful and made our stay memorable in Bordeaux. Thank you!
- John (10/5): - Great hotel. Very good staff.
- Victoria (10/5): - We had a great stay at the hotel. The room was spacious with modern decor. A lovely bathroom and shower and lots of storage space. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the area - it was a 25 min walk along the river or quick tram ride into the Old Town. A two minute walk to the Bord’Eau village - a great complex of shops and riverside restaurants. Also near the ferry over to Darwin which is a great place to visit. Will definitely stay at Hotel Vatel on our next visit.
- Christine (10/5): 2 nights before river cruise-great location! - Very large and comfortable room. Staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was just right. Only 12 rooms and the rest of the space is a hotel school, so seemed very busy but the 4th floor for the rooms was quiet. Great location right on the river and a few steps from the B-line tram. Easy to get to Cite du Vin in one direction and the historic city center in the other. Renovated warehouses across the way offered great shopping and cafes. We stayed 2 nights before a river cruise-it’s only a short walk to the river boats.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Hotel - The room was quite large with plenty of storage space. The bathroom was large and new. Breakfast was continental with cereals, coldcuts and juices- very filling and a great way to start off the day. Very convenient to city sights and you can have a wonderful walk along the river promenade across the street from the hotel.
We would not hesitate to recommend Vatel Hotel to future travelers.
O atendimento diurno é completamente diferente graças a essas profissionais femininas.
- Rebecca (8/5): - Overall, the room was clean and bathroom was very nice! Staff was incredibly friendly at arrival, inconsistent if they were at the front desk or not for rest of the stay. The WiFi connection was very poor. The only other thing to note is that it is a decent walk from city center — nothing to do with the hotel, but location continued to be rated high in reviews and I was surprised by how long it took to walk in (I could have mapped it more closely so that’s on me).
- Marie (10/5): Great Place to Stay - I stayed at this hotel twice during a month long stay in Bordeaux primarily because it was where a Trip USA Bordeaux tour started, so I added days on the front and back end of that tour. Ricardo, the day manager, was exceptionally helpful, but all of their staff is well trained as they have a hospitality training school on site. They offer breakfast as an extra but it’s rather expensive unless you’re a big eater. The room was very comfortable although I found the bedding too warm for my taste. Finally, the last night there, I discovered a blanket in the closet that I could use instead of the duvet. Like many hotels these days, they provide small square pillows, so on my second round there, I requested normal size pillows and they were provided. The location is excellent for seeing Bordeaux as the tram line is just across the street. It is within a nice, long walking distance of the old part of town, the river parkway and dozens of great restaurants. My one big complaint is that most hotels, including this one, do not provide a place to put open suitcases. I do not want to unpack and pack again, especially when only staying for a 2-4 days so I just used half of the king bed. The second part of the stay, I was placed in a handicap room which had more space and did have a large platform for my suitcase, which I really liked.
- Marie (10/5): - This hotel has everything going for it. Great location! Literally across the road from the Garonne River parkway the borders the river throughout Bordeaux which is a hive of activity almost any day and any time. The staff were exceptional and very helpful to international travelers. I’d recommend this hotel to fellow travelers.
- Anne (8/5): - I thought the toilet bowl could have been cleaner, white not brown
- Elizabeth (6/5): - not a 4 star hotel
- Rachel (8/5): Perfect stay - Lovely hotel, perfect location and they upgraded our room. Excellent staff and service. Would stay again.
- Ian (10/5): - great location
polite staff
- FJORD TECHNOLOGIES (10/5): Superbe !
- Deborah (10/5): - Stayed here before river cruise was able to walk to the boat. Lots of eating options around. Hotel was very pleasant
- Benoit (10/5): - Bien situé. Facile d’accès. Personnel très agréable.
Parking facile.
- brian (10/5): Great find in Bordeaux - The service, cleanliness and facilities were excellent. The location, while not being in the centre of town, is within walking distance and the price reflects that. A tram stop is also 2 minutes walk away.
Highly recommend this hotel.
- Joshua (8/5): - We enjoyed our visit.
- LAURENT (10/5): EXCELLENT SEJOUR - CHAMBRE VRAIMENT TRES PROPRE ET TRES VASTE SALLE DE BAIN AU TOP MAIS JE TROUVE MESQUIN LA FACTURATION DE DEUX PETITES BOUTEILLES D EAU MINERALE PRISE DANS MINI BAR C EST UN DETAIL MAIS QUAND MEME MAIS ETABLISSEMENT AU TOP
- Kevin (10/5): - Wonderful staff. Very spacious and comfortable room.
- David (10/5): - Alexander could not have been more helpful when we were checking in and for our whole stay.
- Craig (10/5): - Excellent hotel with staff that actually care. Great location too.
- Greg (10/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful. Even had umbrellas if raining. Room was very clean and amazing rain shower. Very quite as well.
- Philippe (10/5): - Staff was very efficient, helpful and friendly.
Room upgrade was granted.
- Bill (10/5): - Nice hotel near the Gironde River in Bordeaux. A very liberal noon checkout time, but be advised that your room key will not work at 12:01!
- laurence (10/5): - Room 114 was amazing. The staff was terrific. Super convenient to the tram. Only complaint - you have to boil your eggs at breakfast.
- Rodrigo (6/5): - The rooms were great. Well furnished and the bathrooms were pretty good. Staff at the lobby was hit or miss. There seemed to be some staff members under training and didnt even seem to speak french properly. At checkout we asked for a taxi but the lady at the reception never mentioned that the taxi also charged to get to us. Our alternative was a 15 eur uber to the train station while we ended up paying 40 eur for a taxi that came from a far and charged us for the trip to pick us up. Would have appreciated more transparency from the hotel staff members about this huge difference between uber and taxis
- Paul (10/5): Good hotel - Great friendly staff, very helpful and accommodating. Parking is a very long walk (but you may not need your car for awhile). Many Uber and cabs available. No parking anywhere in Bordeaux. 1.5 mile walk to hotel de ville (main center of action ) close walk to shopping and many other restaurants
- Verified traveler (10/5): A good location for exploring Bordeaux - An ideally-situated hotel close to the river Garonne, midway between la Cité du Vin and the town centre, both within walking distance.
The staff were all welcoming, keen and friendly.
The superior room was very spacious with a well-equipped bathroom. It was very clean, but some of the fittings and furnishings were slightly worn and in need of replacement. In spite of the double glazing, there was a lot of traffic noise.
We only bothered with breakfast on the first morning. The choice of items, which had to be ordered the previous night, was limited and, at 12 €, somewhat expensive.
We did not eat in the restaurant, but the bar had a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices.
A recommander totalement
Personnel accueillant.
Prise de mesures COVID-19 très sérieuses.
Je recommande !
- David (10/5): Comfortable stay - Comfortable stay with lovely attentative staff. Close to the river and close to restaurants and bars
- Peter (6/5): Good area tired hotel - Great location, great breakfast, needs an update.
- alexander (10/5): Location - Perfect city break, being so close to trams, ferries etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The young staff were very polite, cheerful, friendly and helpful.
Our room was reasonably spacious, with a comfortable bed, although the shape and layout were awkward. We asked for extra cups more than once as provision was for one person.
We found the breakfasts had odd combinations and did not look like the pictures on the menu sheet that we had to fill out the night before.
- Tracy (10/5): Great hotel - Great hotel with easy access to everything! We would definitely stay here again.
- Ralph (10/5): - Clean comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Great location to river front restaurants and for river cruises that start or end in Bordeaux.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very helpful staff quiet and good position close to riverside easy access to trams
- Dean (8/5): - We stayed here on the front end of our trip for a couple of days and the room condition was definitely better than the one night stay at the end of our trip. The room was smaller and worn on the one night stay. Still a great staff and clean. A great value.
- Dean (10/5): Great time in Bordeaux - The staff couldn’t have been better. The location is at the river and a 20 minute walk to the old city or just grab the tram. Very close to our river cruise dock
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Easy location with great access to tram for exploring Bordeaux. Room is very well done. Would recommend to friends and family.
- Daniel (10/5): - Excellent reception from young staff training at local hotel business management program. Front desk and bartender were exceptionally welcoming.
- Julie (10/5): Great staff, great location, great food. - The staff at this hotel are amazing. Helpful and kind. The food in the restaurant was superb, and the sommelier so interesting with his knowledge and making time to talk to us. Very clean and excellent amenities. The whole eco label concept was great but there wasn’t any skimping. The location near the cité du vin was perfect with a tram system to get right to the centre if needed.
- Jeannine (10/5): - Close to river cruise dock. Very nice staff.’easy access to city center.
- Jeanette (10/5): - Hotel Vatel offers a simple but spacious decor and set up in the rooms. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom is also large with a good size shower recess that has a rain shower and hand held shower head with three different shower settings - bliss !! There is a fridge and Nespresso pod coffee machine plus unlimited bottled water provided.
The only thing I found wanting was the lack of more snack type food being available at night from early hours, especially with the restaurant being closed on two nights. Often when you have been out on day tours all day, probably having eaten a largish lunch, all you need is something small instead of having to wait for the restaurants nearby to open and/or get changed.
- Roger (10/5): Hotel Vatel recommended - This hotel is based on the edge of the Chartrons district of Bordeaux - a really buzzing, bohemian area full of narrow streets, antique shops, cafes, bars and some good restaurants. The hotel is virtually on the quayside and right next to a tram stop into the city centre.
The hotel is run by students from the hospitality school which is on site and they have excellent English and try hard to please. The hotel is modern, comfortable and well equipped/
- Jack (10/5): - Close to shops and for us close to cruise departures
- Bradley (4/5): - The hotel emailed me and told me the needed my room and moved me to a different hotel in a much lessor location. Never in all of my travels have I even heard of such a thing. We booked a long time ago. So beware travelers.
- Irina (10/5): Amazing hotel. - We have had a wonderful stay there. The location is great. The hotel is clean, spacious rooms, great shower. Absolutely recommended.
- Robert (8/5): - Very close to the tramway: super convenient and far from the noise of downtown.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Outstanding service. Very personable, offered complimentary phone, great location.
- Michael (10/5): Works for me - Nice big quiet room , friendly accommodating staff. Good a/c. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Tub. What more could you want!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Service just not quite there - The hotel its nice, its clean, room was big but its run by students from the hotel school next door (I didn't know this when booking). When they bill you on check out when its prepaid, then struggling to get a proper refund because then after the fact they realize they got the initial bill wrong...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Superb location, very good staff, everything you'd need
- Monty (8/5): Nice hotel next to the Quai - We were taking a Uniworld boat from the Quai des Chartrons and wanted a hotel nearby. Hotel Vatel was just a block away and very convenient. The staff was friendly. The room very clean and nice. We had an outstanding beef dish at their restaurant at dinner. Only minor negative was that we had to ask for a menu 3 times at this teaching hotel.
- Kevin (10/5): The best. Vatel - Vatel was wonderful to stay at. Great professional people helping to make our stay memorable, fun, and comfortable away from home.
Everything we asked about either local or help when we missed our train, the staff jumped in to support whatever we needed...and assisting to get us to our next destination. Frank and all staff were amazing.
We stayed at another couple hotels adter...and I kept wishing they were Vatel. Beds were really comfortable...it was just perfect. Food was great too.
- F (10/5): - AWESOME hotel, so clean, so nice, so easy and so accommodating... EVERYONE was super nice. LOVED our room with comfy bed, plush towels, clean, clean clean
- Verified traveler (8/5): - My stay was good. My room was clean and comfortable and the staff were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The only complaint I have is that the internet was a bit unstable and there needs to be more international television channel options or the facility for subtitles on the current available channels
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel within walking distance of bordeaux - Lovely hotel. Very helpful staff.
Just too cold. Room temperature was at its highest @ 24 deg but as it was a big room and in January, the room was very very cold. But the helpful staff brought us a portable heater which did the job.
Would like to have eaten at the Hotel, but at 43 euros each and no description of the menu. This put us off.
- Haim (10/5): Great value for money - Modern hotel located near city center & a few steps from tram station.,spacius room, sparkless clean, reasonable parking fee, very friendly & helpfull staff,
- Philip (10/5): Nice clean , friendly hotel, large rooms - Very nice, clean, friendly comfortable hotel, large room. Nice position near the river and good local restaurants and wine bars.About 1km tram or comfortable walk from the town centre.
- Jan (8/5): Very convenient, tram stop across the road - 4 couples from the UK, just back from 3 night stay at the Hotel Vatel in Chatrons area. When I booked I hadn't realised that it was a training hotel. The young staff were very attentive and professional at all times. The rooms were very well appointed, modern, good quality fittings. Downside for British visitors, just a coffee machine with small coffee cups, a selection of teabags and a kettle and mugs would have been appreciated. Wood laminated floors throughout the hotel, perfect for summer months but a rug or two in the bedrooms would add comfort especially in cooler weather. We went to the cafe across the road for breakfast, good value but ate breakfast in the hotel on last morning. Room for improvement, limited selection, not attractively displayed. Meal in the restaurant on last night was very good, all happy except for one who had an overdone steak, it was replaced.
- Fred (10/5): Nice facility, close to waterfront and tram stop. - Friendly staff (students at adjacent hotel management school) up to date facilities.
- MR (10/5): Room overlooking the courtyard - I had an unusual room with it's own entrance outside the courtyard. The extra space was welcomed, even though I was traveling alone.
- Verified traveler (8/5): One night stay in Bordeaux - A little outside of the city center but can walk, take the tram, or rent a bike to get anywhere you need to go.
- Robi (10/5): GREAT SERVICE - This hotel is a business school. The staff are students and teachers; the service is excellent. We stayed for 2 days and were waited on "hand and foot" by courteous, fun and happy staff. The restaurant is also excellent; the veal chop was phenomenal. Rooms were nice and clean. If you like service at an affordable price this is the place to be.
- Anthony (8/5): Modern boutique style hotel. - Ver nice small hotel, used for training of staff so that can have its good points & its bad.
