Guest Reviews
- Gina (10/5): - Beautiful area
- Sheila (10/5): Gem of a find. - What an amazing find! Beautiful property, well maintained and wonderful breakfast. The history of Four Mounds is worth looking into if you are planning a stay there - although you will have plenty of opportunity to find out the history. What was originally built as a gentleman’s farm during the Industrial Revolution has become a well preserved ecosystem with well maintained buildings. Four Mounds was donated to Dubuque by one of the last surviving original owners and has become a foundation that is well known to Dubuque residents.
Even if you don’t care about the history - it’s a beautiful and peaceful place to stay with an amazing breakfast. Despite the seclusion, you are close to everything Dubuque has to offer.
- James (8/5): - The property is quite nice! We had one issue when arriving as another couple had locked the main entrance into the house. We waited outside for about 15 minutes before the owner unlocked the door.
- Laura (10/5): Hidden gem - Lovely historic bed and breakfast. It has a contactless check in. It is very quiet and private. Wonderful breakfast featuring mushrooms foraged on the property. There's a one lane driveway, so you need to be a little cautious.
- Craig (10/5): - Loved this property. Would definitely stay again.
- Shelley (10/5): - Four Mounds is a lovely B&B in a quiet and scenic location. The home is expertly maintained.
Staff is available on an as needed basis but otherwise you are left to enjoy this beautiful place on your own.
- Dale (10/5): - It was a surprise and a little hard to find, but worth it!
- John (10/5): - Came across The Four Mounds listing while looking for a place to stay in Dubuque while on a business trip. What a pleasant surprise.
Just a wonderful historic property…
You won’t be disappointed staying here!
- Kenneth (10/5): - This has to be the most incredible place on earth! Loved visiting with Candence while there and the 4 HUGE turkeys, beautiful buck, so many birds! Cozy & Roomy! Cant think of o e negative thing PERIOD! TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY! THANK YOU for everything you have done to preserve such an incredible place! My wife and I really loved it here! MAGICAL!!!!
- Lauren (10/5): - Beautiful 100-year-old house
- Lauren (10/5): - Beautiful property and grounds. Super clean, attentive staff. Will definitely go back!!
- Yuriy (10/5): - We spent a day on the porch at Marvin Gardens Cabin with a view of the Mississippi River. It was a great and relaxing day!
- linc (10/5): - Well maintained.
- Susan (10/5): - Very relaxing stay and wonderful breakfast.
- Aimee (10/5): - Our room was perfect. The bed was very comfy. The bathroom was fine, shower curtain wouldn’t stop blowing in and sticking to me, but it was fine. The breakfast was fantastic and Dee was delightful. We would absolutely stay again.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Quint, roomy ,comfortable. The staff were great.
- Robert (10/5): - A very quaint cabin that we could enjoy in the quiet of the woods. Large excellent television, very kind hostess. Would recommend to any friends
- Randy (10/5): - Beautiful historic property; private walks to overlook the Mississippi. The inn is immaculately maintained, with very interesting history. Excellent service!
- Cynthia (10/5): Catching up with friends - Clean throughout, our bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was good. Only con was we are early risers and breakfast is at 9. Way to late in the morning for us.
- Thomas (10/5): - Four Mounds is an historically significant residence that was built in the very early 1900s. It is in a relatively remote and very beautiful rural forest setting with a broad view of the Mississippi river north of Dubuque. The breakfast I had was perfect and cooked for me and served at the dining room table. I came for just one night, but I very much want to return with my family. I strongly recommend Four Mounds.
- Barbara (10/5): Lovely and historic charm - The property is out of this world beautiful overlooking the Mississippi. The white house where we stayed maintained its character of a bygone era, yet had the amenities we desire today. Breakfast at the Grey house was delicious & gave us an opportunity to tour it also. Staff was friendly and filled us in on the historical details. A real Gem and Dubuque should be proud!
- Diana (8/5): - Everything was great except someone controlled the air conditioning for my room and I either was very cold or warm. If that could be medigated, it would help. Breakfast was great. Overall, I’d go back again.
- Mark (10/5): - Wanted a quite getaway and that’s checked all that we wanted. Had everything we needed to cook with. Will be back.
- Robert (10/5): - This is a restored 1908 country house for a wealthy family. The rooms are large and grounds are extensive along the West Bank of the Mississippi.
- Kenneth (10/5): - It was very quiet! Very clean and great service.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Simply beautiful! Definition of a perfect getaway from the noise and busyness of life. Absolutely loved our stay and the accommodations.
- Camillo (8/5): - was quiet,clean and friendly staff.
Will be nice more choice for breakfast
- Nick (10/5): - Gorgeous property. Our room was so relaxing and quiet.
- Kenneth (8/5): Four Mounds - The B&B is clean and comfortable. We have gone to several B&Bs and have been greeted by the owners. We had no interaction during our stay with owners or employees. This was a real downer for us. Our internet was zero. We went to breakfast at the grey house and internet was awesome! They need to get this in the White House. However, the breakfast was homemade, fresh, and tasty!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great, though we’ll worn, venue. - Venue is lovely, though the property is a bit, let’s say, “we’ll worn.”
Breakfast was excellent and the staff delightful.
- Callie (10/5): - Amazing staff, the mansion and grounds do not disappoint. It is a hidden treasure. You step back in time and leave your cares at the gate as you arrive. We will most definitely be back again!
- David (10/5): - We enjoyed everything about this place. It is one of a kind - like stepping back in time. Very comfortable and it would be a perfect place for a family retreat.
- Laure (10/5): - Stayed in the Cabin. It’s like being miles away from the city, yet you are 10 minutes from being able to get what you need (grocery store, major chains).
- Catherine (10/5): - Wonderful area enjoyed our stay
- Hyla (10/5): - The Four Mounds Inn is a wonderful place. Very secluded and quiet, but with all the amenities you need. The staff were very nice and attentive. I would recommend this place to my friends for a getaway to a beautiful location and secluded gem.
- Bruce (8/5): - Very quiet and relaxing.
- Brenda (8/5): - This is an quaint, unique but really nice Inn. Chianne was a terrific hostess, aim to please and friendly. Beautiful flowers, trees, wild turkeys and deer surround the retreat. If the opportunity arises we would stay again.
- Ivan (10/5): - The photo depicting this inn is not accurate, 100 yr old 2 story mansion overlooking the Mississippi River, forested, gardens, and walking paths, etc. very meditative, quiet,
Lovely hot breakfast in dining room which expands to open sun rooms, our girls getaway (4ladies of 65) were most pleased.
- John (10/5): - Extremely peaceful and scenic. The white house was cozy and well appointed.
- Jeff (10/5): - Very nice facility and beautiful setting. Kudos to Jill and Emily.
Would liked to have had coffee/ beverages available throughout the day, and couple of extra towels. I am sure they would have accommodated if I had asked. Would be perfect for girlfriend or multi family get a way!
- Kathryn (10/5): - Four mounds Inn is a treasure and the people that run it are very friendly, kind and accommodating. We loved exploring the property and watching the birds and the view of the Mississippi. Breakfast was divine!
- Kathleen (10/5): - 4 Mounds is a beautiful location with acres of trees and native plants. The birds at the feeders were beautiful. There were so many different bird calls I'd never heard before. The B&B is beautifully historic and located very near to Mississippi River. I'll definately be back!
- BARBARA (10/5): - This property takes you back in time to beautiful old homes in a country setting overlooking the Mississippi River. Lovely clean updated mansions. Would be great for a large family event as well as on your own.
- Thomas (10/5): - I like it was secluded, very well-kept and the staff in the morning for breakfast were very professional and very helpful. Will definitely come back, when the weather is a little warmer.
- Sandy (8/5): - Very unique, historic property.. Great for our friends' retreat...lots of room to spread out, delicious breakfast, friendly staff with homelike appeal.
- Michael Lee (10/5): - The grey house was a masterpiece with a stately architecture and furnishings. The staff was very attentive and breakfast was gourmet quality.
- Lester E (10/5): - Was very nice.
The road coming in could be better.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very old property. Appreciated it’s antiquity. However, all plumbing should be updated.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful - The overall experience was great, beautiful room and location, previsit phone call explaining check in process, parking, etc. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. The only glitch was uncertainty with morning coffee and breakfast and in the end we just didn't have time to wait, so i would have just asked about this beforehand so we'd know.
- Sean (10/5): Historic beautiful property - Beautiful and very interesting historic “gentlemen’s farm” family bed and breakfast property. Great views, friendly staff. Hidden gem!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - BEAUTIFUL grounds with a path to walk and enjoy. The view of the river was awesome. The Innkeeper, Marie, was so helpful and full of historical stories that may our stay that much better. Her breakfasts were SPECTACULAR!
- Jerran (10/5): Excellent !! We didn’t want to leave !! - We were very impressed by the Four Mounds B and B. Unfortunately due to Covid we weren’t allowed to have the breakfast. But we ALWAYS felt safe we thought Marie did an Excellent job of making us feel at home and telling us about the History of The Four Mounds. The view was Amazing !!

- Allison (10/5): - Beautiful river views on a secluded bluff. The cabin is still close to town.
