!!!DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID!!! - Leaving Where do I even start. The entire house is disgusting, the only "clean" area is where the footpath has been rubbed clean by walking on it. The bathroom was incredibly dirty, the old tub had been boarded off because its covered in a thick layer of black mold. The washer is tiny and frankly i wish i didnt have to use it but i had no clean clothes so i bit that bullet. The owner wouldnt allow us to play any music on the terrace. (off a phone, so it wasnt a loud speaker) he would enter the room without knocking whenever he pleased, at one point when he was doing that I saw him lean right over (a couple inches away from his face) one of the other guest to check if he was sleeping i guess. When I flipped my mattress up I found crusted snot wiped on them. The sheets and blanket felt sticky and gross, the a/c i bet was full of mold too as I woke up with a sore throat and congested nose. When it was just my friend and I in the room at 10 he comes in and tells us its lights out (an hour before stated on the listing) and wouldnt listen to us when we said it was only us in the room so we didnt want to turn them off yet. He has his rules written on tape everywhere you look. the kitchen area and provided plates/cutlery were also disgusting. In the morning he lets himself in again with no knock, looked around then walked over to our bathroom and vomited on the floor, then he grabs one the towels he will rent you (you have to pay to wash them yourself in his gross washing machine) and poorly wipes it off the floor. This is not a hostel, this is a crazy old dude who slammed as many bunks in the tiny upstairs rooms as he could and that was the last bit of work he put into it. My friend and I had booked two nights, but after we were awake we just packed up and snuck out.
Sometimes when somethings this cheap theres a very good reason! All of the rooms were either AI brushed up or the photos had been taken years ago.

- Ionel (10/5): - Still staying here. It's a very quiet and safe place to stay.

- John (10/5): I will stay here again. - The owner, the people and the quiet life of Japan. The weather
- Niclas (5/5): -
- GAUTIER (2/5): Needs serious improvement in cleanliness - Poor hygiene overall .. the bed was worn out and sagging, there was mold in the shower, and the toilet was clearly not properly cleaned or maintained. I would not recommend this place.
- Ionel (10/5): I'm still staying here. Hope others will come here and be sure it's safe and quiet. - Everything was better than I was aspecting. The Japanese Railway system not the place I stay .
Comment peut-on accepter cela ? Surtout que la maison est petite, cela ne prendrait même pas longtemps à nettoyer ! Je ne comprends vraiment pas.

- John (10/5): A fine choice for sleep on the cheap! - What's provided at J's Backpackers is a very good deal. The location proved fine for me to reach and return to, and it was easy to walk to the train station. It's a nice house and functions well for the purpose. Those who choose to stay in a shared room environment might well consider not only quiet behavior at night, but quieting their devices as well. Perhaps your devices don't disturb your sleep, but they may disturb the sleep of others. Snoring is another story entirely!

- Sindhu (9/5): - Very comfortable for the price paid. The shower wasn't clean.
- Camilla (4/5): -
- Catriona (10/5): Great place - Helpful staff and very quiet! Quite far from centre but good transport links.
Bed a little bit hard for me and pillows a bit old
- Karol (3/5): Very dirty house - The staff was very friendly and helpful. A quiet location and a grocery store near by. It was horribly dirty. Starting from the bathrooms, through the shower, it looked like the floor was the only thing that was vaccumed from time to time. It looked like a proper cleaning was not done in months if not years.
- Elios (8/5): -
- Minamoto (5/5): -
- Ignacio (1/5): - Muy sucio, la ducha horrible, los baños con mucho olor, hongos y manchas, la cocina mínima y tampoco estaba limpia. Queda super lejos de todo, una hora y media de dos trenes a cualquier lugar turístico.
- Soumyadeep (8/5): Very good -
- Maxim (8/5): Very good -
- Raphael (1/5): Terrible - Terrible accommodation – this is not a hostel.
This place should not be called a hostel – it’s just a guy renting out his house packed with beds. First of all, there is only one shower for 13 people, and just two toilets total. During my three-day stay, not once did I see any cleaning of the house or bathrooms – both were consistently dirty.
To make it worse, the owner lives in the house and tries to impose his house rules on what should be a shared, hostel-style space. Check-in is only at 5 PM, and there is no reception. I arrived in the rain and had to wait outside in the cold. There’s even a trash bin on the street where he tells you to leave your luggage. Absolutely unprofessional.
When you try to use the kitchen, the host stands nearby watching like a supervisor, as if you’ll mess something up. It’s very clear he’s just after your money, with no real care for your comfort or experience.
Avoid this place at all costs – it’s a scam-style setup and not worth your time. Also, it’s about 1 hour away from most things in Tokyo, so not even the location makes up for it. Terrible accommodation – this is not a hostel.

- Miranda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fahlvik (5/5): Passable - Dust. The smell at the toilets.
- Joseph (9/5): Superb - very convenient. shops were just around the corner, nearest train station was just over the bridge. very quiet, very peaceful, and every now and then you get to socialize with the other people. not that I'm complaining, but I found the downstairs toilets to be a bit too small for me, being a huge guy I often struggle to get down to business. nevertheless, you do get what you pay for.
- Alexander (9/5): Very clean - It was clean, the rules and the procedures are very well explained
- Gemma (5/5): Made me feel uncomfortable after first night - Was quiet Everything was expected due to the price and wasn’t too bothered until the first morning he opened up my dignity curtain, poked his head around, looked in and said sorry as it startled me. There was so need to come look behind the curtain as knew I wasn’t checking out and still very early morning. Made me feel very uncomfortable as didn’t even say anything. I was awake and saw him coming closer but just thought this couldn’t be happening but did. Not one to write it or reviews but as a woman, it really wasn’t on and was no explanation of why he done it. So would be cautious if solo traveller.
- Bailey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amishai (4/5): Cheap! But dirty! - Listen I'm a backpacker and it was fine for me for two nights, it was super cheap for Tokyo, lovely quiet neighbourhood, supermarket 2 mins away, owner has good English, lockers were big enough and provided included in price, but if you're sensitive to seeing dirt and mold, this ain't the place for you. MOLD, so moldy, mold and dirt all over the shower and sinks, it appears that for some reason no general daily cleaning is done, like seriously, just mold sprinkled all over the shower ceiling and walls, weird dirty sponges in the shower area that probably should've been thrown out years ago.
Toilet bidets are not functioning.
Yeah again if you're sensitive to dirt, this ain't worth the price, for me it was fine.
- Djuric (10/5): Exceptional - Very pleasant and helpful host! There is a grocery shop nearby, the train station is about 15 min walk away, but it's easy from then on... It's Tokyo so you are going to spend time riding around pretty much regardless of where you get your accommodation.
For the price this goes for, it's pretty much what you'd expect... very comfy and quiet neighborhood as well.
I understand that for someone else this kind of minimalism wont work, but for a solo traveler like me that needs only necessities, and spends most of his time outside exploring, this is ideal.
- Gunawan (8/5): affordable price. and located in a quiet area - in a quiet area. And cheap price. The owner is a nice person. only 1 bathroom available
- Henrique (8/5): Worth it for a short stay! - It was very good for it's value, the owner is communicative and helpful. Location is a little bit far away from everything and the bed wasn't very comfortable.
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional -
- Axel (7/5): Good -
- Isaac (3/5): it was cheap which i liked but it was pretty moldy, loud and odd - nice on the outside. very tight and small inside. vending machine right outside very cool. allowed me to come check in super late because my flight was delayed like crazy. the bathroom had black mold everywhere pretty bad. the washing machine and dryer was 1000 yen to use everytime. Comes in the room and just kinda stares and walks around the room and fixes random things like the light. i got bit by some spider or bug idk everyday i woke up with a new bite on my hand leg or arm. pretty far from everything, its the last train station so its far from a lot. all night every single night i heard banging and stuff falling and dropping like huge weights all night from 9pm-3AM got no sleep.
- Jorge (1/5): Not book please - Nothing. The place it’s very dirty you can see that they haven’t been cleaning in years, the floor it’s dirty there are places that are very dusty, the toilet looks like never had been cleaned with a lot of piss in the toilet and I found a bit of blood around the sink.
- Mohanty (8/5): Very good -
- Marwan (9/5): Superb -
- Javier (7/5): Good -
- Grace (9/5): Superb - Nice, quiet, and calm place to stay. It is very far out of the city
- Nn (8/5): value for money. - quite, and supportive host small kitchen and no working desk
- Anonymous (5/5): Passable -
- Roland (7/5): Good - If you look at the price, it’s a good place to stay at. And if you are lucky like me, you might actually meet someone amazing who can become your friend.
- Nn (7/5): Good - value for money, supportive staff no desk for laptop and space for working
- Andrea (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jayfan (5/5): Passable -
- Kacy (7/5): Good -
- Monserrat (8/5): Good price and nice owner - The owner gave me and my friend a room just for us (girls) and kept the boys in the second room, we were able to cook there and he provided drinkable water, oil, salt pepper etc , there’s a vending machine outside and a place to hang out. I would recommend this place 👍🏼 Is pretty far from the city and 15 min away by walk from Aoto station (the closest); they could improve the cleanliness of the shower room and toilets also should have the option to change bed cloths for long stays
- Francisco (8/5): Very good - Very quiet, perfect place if you want to rest and take a flight next day Needs to be clean more often
- Albert (10/5): Very reasonable; does the job. - The amenities were all in good condition, the hostel was also clean and safe. I like the fridge as well, it was very useful. The hostel is on a peninsula between two main stations, meaning the walk over the large bridge and the final few streets can be complicated for people unfamiliar with the area. However, this is only a small issue, and not one that can be rectified.
- Shah (5/5): Passable -
- Joshua (6/5): Alright - Overall alright for the price. Kitchen is good. This was like a private home turned into a guest-house. So either you might like that atmosphere or feel a bit like intruding someones home, since the owner lives there too. They owner seemed like a nice guy, but I didn't like that the explanations at check-in took forever. I don't need to be told that I should lock the door while showering, neither I'm a child nor an idiot.
There was not much space in the house.
The location is not that great to reach.
- Fernando (10/5): Exceptional - Hostel tranquilo, limpo e confortável
- Eve (7/5): Good -
- Cheow (7/5): It's cheap, so it's within my expectations - Cheap! For the price, I don't have any gripes about the place
- Sharma (8/5): Very good -
- Singh (9/5): Good option if you are not expecting much & looking for a reasonable stay in a peaceful location - Value for money. J is a Caring host (does not interfere in your work) Location. You need to walk around 900 meter from Aoto station(this is directly connected to Narita airport). During this walk you also need to climb up & climb down the stairs to cross the river bridge . So if you are coming with heavy luggage then you should better take taxi (around 800 yen) from Aoto station.
- Zephyr (7/5): Good - Super cheap, location is OK. the only annoying thing was that you can't really chill on the terrasse outside when its raining.
- Alfonso (7/5): Good -
- Kumar (4/5): Disappointing - Location is in outskirts so peaceful place Place is far from nearby Aotō station, you need to walk 20 minutes ( Including crossing the bridge and climbing the stairs ) after a long day its feel so bad evertime.
Toilet is smelling ( cannot use water jet and bidet )
- Loreto (7/5): Good -
- Mila (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ravinder (8/5): Very good -
- Mason (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvester (4/5): Disappointing - Staff is friendly and it was kinda cheap Had to pay extra for the other metro just to get there..it's really in the middle of nowhere
It's not really clean, it has only one shower, and no real social area.
No one I met there really enjoyed it.
- Brianna (5/5): Passable - It was not loud at night and J is really nice, you need to walk like 15min to Aoto station, I liked it. But you need to have this in mind bevor coming here... The beds and the bathroom were actually kinda dirty, especially the shower (wouldn't step a foot in there without some shoes), but if you don't mind that it was good.
- Placide (7/5): Good - Very friendly owner hahaha
- Emilien (6/5): Pleasant - Cheap accommodation, worth it if you’re on a budget

- Emilija (6/5): Pleasant -

- Chris(yoshiko) (10/5): Exceptional - very comfortable lodge near aoto station, as its near to warter front good location for walk and jog by river and should b nicer at sakura season with my jogging wear, kitchen is available for small and quick bites and nice hangout place with morning coeffee and thosts we enjoyed, many nationality of friends we met, its the most hidden affordable place at tokyo near to skytree, quiet and cozy and very private, many thanks to the cool house owner Mr J, it was really a pleasure to met you and new friends from.US, Canada and FR, and Taiwan, somehow all of them are artists and handdsome dudes, we all like ramen was laugh
