Guest Reviews
- 53Andee (2/5): AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL - AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL
So disappointed after a perfect day of walking from Craster to Alnmouth
- richardbZ4347YQ (2/5): Worst curry ever! - Worst meal ever!!!!
Poppadoms swimming in oil. Raw onion on the pickle tray. Strange coloured curry sauce. No potatoes in the sag aloo. Stodgy rice.
This was not a curry and I would struggle to serve this to my worst enemy.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!
- Aneta (10/5): - Świetna lokalizacja. Polecam
- Spoofacat (2/5): Avoid afternoon tea here - The bar staff had no idea how to make a cup of tea and then charged us £7.75 for a really poor service
- F2269STjordanw (2/5): Health hazard and joke of an establishment - Scariest thing about this place was the black mould on my pillows, curtains and the walls. Shower doesn’t work, the handle will fall off upon touching it. The bathroom door will also shut you in as there’s been no repairs done for approximately 400 years. Wallpaper hanging off. Unspecified, sticky spillages down the walls. Blood and mud on bedding. Unbearable over powering smell of air freshener in the room, perhaps to cover the rotting stench throughout the rest of the building - this is particularly bad outside the staff kitchen doors so I’d advise eating elsewhere. Tv didn’t work, staff tried to argue it does despite him being unable to work it (the cable is also snapped and taped together). Dangerous extensions cables dangling all over the room. Cupboards and drawers full of the previous occupants rubbish. There’s also an accumulation of various sweets/ rubbish under the beds plus a dirty sock. Agreed 130 over the phone and charged 150 once there, unable to solve this as there was a language barrier (which I suspect was exaggerated to avoid any further conversation about it). Couldn’t speak to manager as there’s literally no staff in the building and my calls have been ignored despite being reassured someone would be in touch.
- Potts (1/5): Worst place ever been to. - N/a Never been to more dangerous dirty damp hotel no working shower, dirty stained sheets. Wouldn't expect animals to stop in those conditions nevermind charging people. Food wouldn't call food.
- Johan (1/5): Give me back my money! -
- Ed (1/5): it was disgraceful and I refused to stay there having, instead, to book somewhere else - The hotel is in a lovely village, however the hotel is horrible The place had builders in, a skip outside and was not 'open' in any meaningful sense of the word. There was a man leaning against the skip smoking a cigarette as I parked up, it turned out he was 'reception' and he unlocked the place to let me in. DO NOT STAY in this place.
I complained for a refund as the fact that there were builders and the place was essentially not an open hotel was not disclosed at booking. The OWNER DISHONESTLY that I did not even arrive to check in - but I have photographs
- Dickson (1/5): Thief - Nothing Being robbed by the owner
- Philip (1/5): Shocking-people need to know this is not a place to even consider staying. - Nothing There were no staff. A couple of hours before arrival I had a call to say ‘let ourselves in’ and pick up our room key card off the unmanned reception desk. The whole place was empty. We had to go through a couple of rooms that were a junk heap before we got in the hall area. The stair carpets were dirty and ill fitting. Our room was unfinished, the decoration not complete. The water in the basin and shower was cold unless we ran the water for 10 minutes. The whole place was as if derelict, the front door was open all night with no one around. Totally unsafe. I’m not even sure if anyone else was staying there. The description says it’s on the beach-it is not.
- Ashley (1/5): Couldn't stay as hygiene, health and safety would have been compromised. - The staff i booked in to stay at the hotel did not stay there due to hygiene, health and safety issues The rooms smelt damp and foisty, rooms did not have locks that worked on the doors, there were stains on carpets and bedding, the cleanliness was extremely poor, staff didn't seem to know what they were doing as one of the guys was taking to 3 different rooms and told he couldnt stay in that room.
- Jonathan (1/5): Didnt spend a night in there should not be advertised as open to pubic was filthy and unsafe and not clean - Nothing we refused to stay is was filthy and unfit for purpose Nothing it was unfit for purpose
- Tara (1/5): Completely unhygienic, unsafe, and unprofessional. Booking was no help either. Avoid at all costs. - This place is a complete scam. The photos online are completely false this hotel should not even be operating. It’s under construction, dusty, mouldy, and absolutely filthy.
None of the doors lock and no keys are given, meaning anyone can walk into the building or your room at any time. This is not just disgusting, it’s unsafe.
We were shown three different rooms and every single one was unacceptable unmade beds, dirty towels with stains and hair, no pillowcases, and bugs in the beds. It only got worse each time.
My mother has asthma and the dust triggered it, yet the owner accused me of lying. When we asked for a refund, he laughed in our faces and refused.

- Paul (1/5): Take it off booking.com it lets you down - Location only Place is falling down dirty and one person running the show we paid for breakfast it was that dirty we didn’t have it, no central heating ~ heater offered was a death trap, overloaded plug sockets , windows sealed unable to open, toilet was covered in vomit, urine etc, had not been cleaned after previous visitors, even used towels left in the mouldy dirty bathroom, only good thing going for this place was the location, always use booking .com but this time we were very let down
- grahamcH8121YM (8/5): Good stay - This was a late booking because of circumstances, how ever when i arrived in reception and guests saying they had no hot water etc, showed me my room for 3 x people and two dogs and was kot the ritz but it was warm the shower worked and for our base it was perfect thanks
- Elizabeth (1/5): We did not stay as accommodation completely unsuitable and not as advertised - We did not stay at this hotel and left shortly after arrival. Electric wires were hanging from ceiling, room not clean, no covers on pillows, toilet had faeces in it, door would not lock, no lighting in corridors, no manager on site to speak to, misled by staff and left hotel to find different accommodation as felt unsafe Everything. Complaint raised with booking.com
- Alan (10/5): Definitely recommend. - Lovely and very friendly, the room was clean lovely and warm and the shower was amazing with power-full hot water! We had a family room with bunk beds that the kids loved. The breakfast was also absolutely spot on. Lovely host. The Hotel is under refurbishment but this doesn’t and didn’t affect the stay, it will look brilliant once it’s all finished and can’t wait to comeback!
- Marcin (9/5): -
- Lucy (4/5): Great location disappointing hotel - The location is great and the pubs and restaurants in alnmouth are charming. The staff were nice albeit they weren't available in the morning. Room was a really good size. The hotel is currently under renovation, meaning the communal areas weren't complete. The room itself was a little dated and quite dusty. The hot water doesn't come on until the shower has been running for 20 minutes which was quite inconvenient and the room was quite cold. Would also recommend taking bottled water as the tap water tasted strangely like blood/metallic and bottles water at the hotel is quite expensive. There's also a lot of strange noises in the night, could be the ghosts or just pipes!
- Latham (1/5): Hotel was closed but they did not cancel our stay until we arrived - Location is great. Right by the beach. 15 minute drive from Alnwick. Booked a one night stay at The Schooner in Feb 2026 and arrived to find it closed and renovations in full swing, despite special requests being confirmed by the hotel back in November 2025. Absolutely no contact from the hotel or booking.com to say the hotel was closed. Spoke to a member of hotel staff on the phone and he didn't even apologise, just said to get a refund from booking.com. We drove 3.5 hours to get there, so it's not like it was around the corner. Terrible customer service.
- Boguslawa (1/5): - Nobody was there, the pin didn't work,I couldn't get to the hotel, the owner told me he canceled my booking but he didn't I lost my money and I must pay for another hotel!!!!
- Sandra (5/5): Just OK. - We booked the hotel on the same day, and although we were not informed about the check in cut off time in advance by either the hotel or booking.com, we were eventually able to get assistance when we arrived. Initially there were no staff present at the hotel or any clear sign of guests there, which was very confusing after travelling for so long. However, after calling the number provided and being persistent, we managed to get through to someone who helped resolve the situation.
Although we were first told we would need to find alternative accommodation (which was impossible at the time, given the location of the hotel) due to being ”past check in time” the staff member kindly arranged two rooms for us instead over the phone. This was generous as we had only booked a room for four, so the extra space was definitely appreciated.
The rooms themselves were adequate, nothing particularly special, but reasonable for the price we paid.
If you are booking with the expectation of a haunted experience, it definitely delivered. I know that is what what led us to booking a room. We heard various unexplained noises throughout the night which, while probably explainable, added a bit of fun to the stay. At one point the shower turned on by itself, which gave us a scare!
Although the hotel itself is quite cold, overall the heating in the rooms kept us super warm. The check in process was incredibly frustrating from the outset. Nowhere did it clearly state that the check in closed at 10pm. If it was mentioned, it certainly wasn’t easy to find. I believe we made the assumption that it was a bigger hotel with staff onsite at all times, which was maybe our misjudgement. On booking.com, the listing only specified that check in was available from a certain time, which made it misleading and left us unaware of any cut off. As a result, it took a fair amount of persistence on the phone to secure access to the room we had already booked and paid for. That said, I don’t want to take away from the staff’s effort in eventually resolving the situation and offering us two rooms, which was appreciated.
The condition of the hotel as well, was concerning. It felt more like an active building site rather than a place ready to host guests, and at times it didn’t feel entirely safe. This made the overall experience feel quite uneasy.
In terms of the rooms, one was perfectly clean and ready, however the other appeared unfinished despite having been recently cleaned. There were dirty towels and sheets left on the bed, on top of clean sheets, cleaning products still in the room, and the bathroom wasn’t properly cleaned. The staff did kindly call a few minutes after us getting into the room to check everything was okay, but given how late it was and how long we had travelled, we didn’t feel comfortable raising further issues at that point. I do believe if we had done, the staff may have done something to resolve it.
The beds were also extremely uncomfortable, which meant we didn’t get much sleep. That said, if you are simply looking for a basic place to stay for the night before travelling on, it may just about serve its purpose.
- Jamie (1/5): Disappointing - This is a building site as the hotel iis undergoing major refurbushment works and should not, in its current state, be listed on booking.com so thete was nothing to llike.
. This is a building site as the hotel iis undergoing major refurbushment works and should not, in its current state, be listed on booking.com. I was not made aware of the significant works until the morning of my booking and had to arrange alternative accommodstion at very short niotice and still still having hassle to get a full refund.
- David (10/5): -
- DavidConvery81 (10/5): 5 star haunted hotel experience!! - 5 star haunted hotel experience!!
If you’re after a haunted hotel experience then the schooner hotel is the place for you with its historic spooky charm and legendary tails, naturally choosing to stay in Room 28.
If you’re after a 5 star hotel experience then the schooner isn’t for you, currently undergoing a major renovation the hotel has that work in progress feel, nevertheless it’s functional.
The owner couldn’t been more accommodating under the circumstances! I’d definitely return and looking forward to seeing the lasted work completed.
- Spoor (1/5): - Man outside says Goodluck to be fair it was getting renovated but wish they had told me on booking. Com anyways if you are looking for somewhere to stay quiet and you like 👻 hotels nows the time to book because there is absolutely 💯 no one there STAFF
- Y3374DRmichelleb (2/5): Terrible and scary and not because of ghosts - Is this hotel still in business been reading it went into liquidation last year but my son booked us a stay for last weekend and it was shocking. Had a phone call from the hotel earlier that day to tell us they were doing some renovations and the bar and restaurant wouldn’t be open which we didn’t mind but when we got there it was a building site. A man took us straight to our room and told us there were other guests there but we probably wouldn’t see them they would be keeping to themselves and the code for the main door wasn’t working so not to lock it . The room was dirty tv remote didn’t work sheets were dirty there was a gap between the door lock and the door frame so you could see into the room from the corridor. We realised eventually we were the only people in the whole place not even any staff. We ended up sleeping or not sleeping in my case with furniture piled up against the door. We would have gone elsewhere but have read that it’s impossible to get a refund off them . The whole place seemed derelict and it was a really scary experience.
- Bradley (1/5): Never again - The property was under major maintenance the owner called us. No facilities open the main entrance wouldn’t close there was no staff or guests it was a complete construction site wires hanging from the ceiling. We barricaded our door closed at night once we realised what was going on. A horrible experience. Everything it was an absolute bombsite never ever again!
- Jacqueline (7/5): -
- Brian (7/5): -
- Gary (2/5): Never stay again - Very friendly staff Bathroom smells of drainage . The bed felt like it was on a slope only warm water from tap in room
- Sandra (6/5): It was all right for one night -
- Catherine (4/5): Adequate if get a reduction only due to location. - Amazing location, Alnmouth is beautiful.
You could take your dog into breakfast room.
Bathroom clean and updated.
Guy attending to breakfast cheerful and friendly. It wasn’t made clear on booking that there was a £20 charge for a dog, this was excessive as no dog accessories. The guy booking in was not very friendly, or apologetic for the extra charge for the dog.
The stair case carpet needed a good clean, feathers and dust evident.
Decor tired and dated.
- Tom (1/5): Do not book! Hotel is redundant / derelict. No staff. Hazardous place breaking all health and safety laws - The hotel was closed with no staff on site and no other guests present. On the day of our stay, we were given a door code to access the front entrance.
Upon entering, it was immediately clear that the property was unsafe. There were missing floorboards, exposed wiring hanging from the ceiling, and multiple serious health and safety hazards throughout the building.
Due to these conditions, we refused to stay.
Further research suggests the hotel has been closed for some time, the operating company has gone into liquidation, and there are outstanding court orders against the owners. There have also been previous reports of rat infestations and long-standing health and safety issues.
Despite this, the owners have refused to issue any refund. Do not stay here. Hotel was redundant/ derelict and CLOSED.
No floorboards boards , wires having from ceilings, and tripping hazards.
Work looks like it’s either being carried out.
No staff. No other guests.
Hotel was closed and health and safety hazards.
Do not stay.
Clearly just take money.
- Connie (1/5): - Leaving
The view Hygiene and cleanliness are a massive issue.
My toddler found a needle under the bed
Also found multiple rubbish items including eye mask, used medical bottle (insulin) and old gregs packets in the room.
Blood smear on the bathroom wall.
Bed frame held up by wooden boards
Staff customer service training clearly hasn’t be taught.
When issues were raised the member of staff on shift looked blankly into the distance.
General awareness is lacking.
- Ian (7/5): Enjoyable and I would certainly return - Fantastic staff, they were all very accommodating and very helpful The breakfast was rather a disappointment, the food was okay edible but went cold very quickly, I would suggest serving on a warm plate would be an easy fix.
- Maerkisch (7/5): -
- Joanne (5/5): -
- Pauline (1/5): AVOID at all cost - - Avoid at all costs - we had walk out as place was dirty ,pubic hair in bed ,sick on carpet a hotel from hell We were in property for 1hour and that was to long
- Louise (10/5): -
- Caroline (6/5): - Signage / decoration of corridors /staff who greet
- Mark (1/5): We did not stay as the room was just disgusting. - Nothing The hotel was disgusting. Got shown to a double bedroom for a start and we had booked a twin. We were then taken to a family. The carpets were dirty and disgusting leading up to the room. The room had one double bedroom for and two small child beds. Electrical sockets were overloaded and didn’t look safe. No tap on the shower. Pulled back bedsheets and there were bugs jumping about. All in all not a pleasant experience.
- Jennifer (3/5): Was disappointed with the hotel, felt it could havd been much better. Needs updating, painting etc. - Location good, central , easy access to the town. Window blinds damaged ,didn't work properly, missing strips . Drawer front fell off. Broken bedside lamp, lamp not working. Poor
General scruffy carpets through out the building .
Cleaning of adjacent room at 11pm.
- Viviane (7/5): -
- Sarah (7/5): -
- John (3/5): Dissapointed - On arrival the main restaurant looked really nice. The staff were welcoming and offered to carry our luggage to our room. The t.v worked and had Netflix too. The location is in a lovely village. Our room smelt fusty and there was damp on the wall. The skirting boards were dirty and walls very grubby. The electric heater wasn't fit for purpose. The lamp didn't work and the plug to heat up the kettle was too small. If we had booked for more than one night, I would've demanded a refund.
- Barbara (4/5): Disappointing - Room clean, otherwise nothing. Staff attitude and poor local knowledge. When I asked about HF property I was told it was a 45 minute walk. It was only 2 minutes walk!!
room had a very loose socket where lamp was plugged in. Health and safety risk! Breakfast wasn’t being served until 9am, too late for me to have breakfast before setting off to meet up with my group!!
Room was too hot and unable to open the window.
- Earls-Gleghorn (6/5): - The staff member who dealt with us was friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable and clean. The location was beautifull and we had a sea view from room 3. Unfortunately the general condition of the hotel was a bit shabby and could do with a full redecorate.
Couldn't complain as heating was on full and room was warm. Walls could do with a lick of paint and just a general overhaul of carpets
- N7541OOth (2/5): Schooner Hotel Alnmouth - NO - This hotel is not what it says on the tin. The web page is slick and leads you to believe it is a quality hotel, it is not, it is filthy.
The letters for the name outside are falling off, the front doors do not close properly. The keypad to access the hotel was dirty/mouldy. There are no restaurants in the hotel. The few tables there were dusty. The doors inside were dirty, there was dust and dirt all up the staircase. The carpets were frayed and dirty.
In the bedroom the carpet was stained and dirty. The radiator was covered in old dirt and was hanging off the wall. The shower was mouldy and the extractor fan was clogged up with dirty dust.
The property smelled strongly of mould.
When we told the proprietor we would not be staying he could not understand why we were dissatisfied. We are unsure if we will receive a refund as we have not heard anything.
Luckily we managed to book into another property and the receptionist told us where we had come from. The Schooner has a terrible reputation locally.
- William (10/5): - Wonderful stay that I'll never forget
- christophero892 (2/5): Stay elsewhere - Couldn’t believe the state of the rooms, I was open minded after reading some terrible comments thinking it can’t be that bad but how wrong I was .
We complained and moved rooms 3 times to find a room that was acceptable (use that loosely) because they were that bad, my son bought us the stay so we stayed the one night and left
Rooms are filthy but bedding was clean, breakfast was poor and cold
- ph450 (2/5): Avoid - Still waiting for a reply of them 😕
Hi, just had a 1 night stay here on the black friday deal.
The place is appalling and needs taking off you site. Rooms, services, decor, health and safety and cleanliness was non existent. The room didn't have hot water, the shower had no heating, the room was half painted the plug sockets are hanging off the wall which caused the lights to flicker, the window doesnt open and is full of mould and the smell of raw sewage in the corridor was disgusting. we basically used the room to sleep, didn't eat or drink there due to what we saw. They have a policy of a key pad on the maindoor to the entrance and when someone couldn't get in last night and kept banging my husband went down to open it and in the corridor was told by a younger man to get back in his room and shut up. Companies house shows the company as dissolved, looking deeper its been shut down at least once for pretty much the same issues. They give you a sheet when you book in telling not asking not to post any photos and post them to social media, we both felt very unsafe and intimidated, This is our first night away after finding out I have Terminal stage 4 cancer so being in such a dirty damp mouldy hasn't gone down well. If no action is taken night will be reporting this to Health and safety, the local council, companies house.
Do not use this establishment
Yours, deeply unimpressed
- karen (1/5): -
- Samantha (8/5): Great service, great price, will definitely book again - Friendly staff, good parking space, clean warm room for a cold November night, lovely cooked breakfast in the morning, great value Nothing too dislike
- elaine (4/5): One night was enough , couldn’t have stayed any longer - Nice location Very damp room shower didn’t work. quite tired and run down
- errington (8/5): -
- Bogdan (7/5): -
- jenn (8/5): Solo occupant - Value for price. Warm cosy room looked newly decorated. Tiled shower room. Room with a view over roof tops to the river and fields.
- 896jennaw (6/5): Cosy room - Room was warm and cosy, looked freshly decorated. Clean sheets on comfortable bed and snuggly throw. Heaters on in the room. TV and welcome tray. View out of the window, over rooftops, to the river and fields. Tiled shower room. Small selection of toiletries.
- Jill (1/5): -
- Butler (4/5): -
- Geoff (4/5): We were generally disappointed. - The location is very good and the cooked breakfast was fine. We had the feeling the staff were not used to running a hotel. We don't want people to be obsequious, but they were not very friendly. The cooked part of the breakfast was fine, but the rest was poor/spartan, for example there was no fruit, limited choice of tea etc. We were also not impressed with the one evening meal we had there.
- MarkD (3/5): -
- 277janicef (2/5): Bedrooms are of a very poor standard. - We booked an overnight stay.Disgraceful.
Bedrooms and standard of cleanliness needs a massive overhaul at this hotel.
Room 3 Filthy carpet stains & marks.Good job I wore my slippers.
Fusty smell.
Bed linen not clean with stains on the covers & sheets Pillow case turned inside out.
To make the point I slept fully clothed with my socks on!
Towels were rolled up & any one could tell from your own home they were not clean towels -reused.
The only good thing was the shower that worked.
As for the breakfast…we were the only ones , The guy didn’t ask what we wanted and brought us a cooked English breakfast? The food was awful, & cold so we left it.And couldn’t wait to get out fast enough so as to continue our journey south.:(
- Kellie (8/5): - The stay was just for overnight on way to Edinburgh. The hotel itself ok but the town was cute walkable and right on the North Sea. Found a great pub and then a restaurant for an amazing dinner. The hotel did live up to the haunted tales as we did experience something paranormal but not scary.
- Dave (10/5): - Had a really good time.Staff were really friendly and helpful hotel was clean and comfortable. Would stay again
- Robert (7/5): -
- Anthony (6/5): -
- Glenn (7/5): -
- Serie (10/5): -
- charlotte (3/5): Bed Bugs!! - The staff were friendly and we had a sizeable room. Unfortunately the room and the beds were full of bed bugs!
- Bev (8/5): Great value for money, in lovely village - Great sea view, friendly staff, comfy bed,
Good shower Very dated
- Lena (9/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): - It was in an excellent position. The beds were comfortable.
- Duncan (7/5): Adequate - Location was excellent. Staff were excellent. The property requires further renovation. The drain in the shower was disgusting and looked like it had not been cleaned for some time. Cleaning staff require more training. However, the bedroom and bathroom were very clean. Bedding was new and spotless.
- Gary (8/5): - Friendly staff. Good food. Clearly there are some issues regarding the management if the hotel as the decor was tired, some things like the bathroom extraction did not work and it was evident that underneath the beds had not been cleaned in a long time. But overall the stay was pleasant. Overpriced for what you get.
- K8194DCsandym (4/5): Poor value hotel. - Although the hotel has had an historic past, it is well past it. Since the latest takeover, some money has been spent, but with poor and badly-finished results, e.g. the primed doorframe and no threshold to the bathroom and a bulb out. The towels weren't clean. Breakfast is vastly over-priced. We didn't eat dinner there. We don't expect the current owners to be in business there long.
- Sabine (4/5): Could be great - Location was great, although parking on the High Street wasn't plentiful. For that, it was only 5 minutes walk from the beach. Some staff tried hard to make this place work, and helped to move luggage to rooms, and was exceedingly polite. As requested, we had two rooms next to each other, although that didn't look like a problem - we only saw four other guests at breakfast (unless they were the advertised ghosts??) Bed was stuck in a corner so that one person had to clamber either over the other or climb in from the bottom. View from window was rubbish, no wardrobe, only a garderobe with 4 clothes hangers. Tired room. Also special was the horsehair-padded carpet in one of the old hallways, which was slanting to one side all along, I get its a historic building, but it felt unsafe. Hallways in general reminded one of Fawlty Towers... Our room key was tricky to use. Daughter reported dirty bathroom. Breakfast was ok but on small side - both mornings each of us had a half slice of bacon and a tiny sausage (but all very well cooked). Muesli choice decidedly poor.
- Lisa (7/5): - Good availability including triple room, and very good price. Central location. Staff were very kind and when they heard my mother struggled with stairs they offered us a ground floor room. They also came and helped us sort things several times. Not posh but functional.
- stuart (6/5): -
- Kate (8/5): Great stay - The owners were lovely and very helpful. The room was comfortable and the food was great (we had breakfast every day and dinner twice).
The location is fabulous, very close to the beach and the local shops and restaurants. The hotel is in the process of being refurbished and various things are tatty and need replacing. We found that was reflected in the price as it was a bargain to stay.
- Philip (2/5): Glad to leave there!!! - Room smelt musty and furniture was well past its best. The electrics were unbelievable, extension leads tacked to the wall for the television ! The bathroom door would not shut properly as the door was tight to the frame. The shower only the hot tap would work. Geeneral cleanliness of the corridors leading to the room was poor .
Breakfast was basic, but in fairness I didnt feel like eating there, I just wanted to leave the property.
Definitely will not visit these premises again. Already covered.
- beaun582 (10/5): Great stay Amazing Staff - Perfect room for what we needed. The pub is on the main street and close to an amazing Deli.
The Staff were fantastic, really polite and friendly.
I left something in my room. I was able to call the hotel and they went straight to the post office and got it sent to our house.
Alnmouth and Northumberland have become my favourite places to go in the UK. Amazing beaches not packed with people.
- Stephen (8/5): - Good location, friendly staff
- Geoff (3/5): Disappointing breakfast, parking is difficult in Alnmouth and the Schooner has no carpark. - The sheets were clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. There was no hot water for the shower that night, however the water was piping hot the next morning.
Breakfast was disappointing, I would have liked a larger portion of baked beans, the mushrooms were fine, the sausages were excellent once they arrived and the half tomato was unexpected as I didn't order any. A larger selection of cereal would have been good, there was no muesli, yoghurt or fruit.
- Ken (6/5): - Good location No hot water in the shower. Very threadbare carpet, needs replacing. Arrived to find the twin room we booked (for two golfing mates) was a family room with double and bunk beds. The hotel did change our room, but the TV did not work, and the ariel cable was draped over the bathroom door, which was not very safe. Don't think we will be back.

- kellian d (10/5): - Ocean view from window.
- Annamaria (5/5): -
- Stewart (5/5): Good as a last resort if there’s nothing else available. - Location was good, right on the heart of the village. The hotel is very tired. We got locked inside our first room as the mechanism on the door was not working. We had to call the hotel by phone and ask them to come up and let us out.
Towels were stained and worn.
- Philip (10/5): - The manager Martin was a gentleman and got whatever you needed
- alihE3045CY (10/5): Lovely Lunchtime Visit! - Popped in for lunch & ended up staying longer than intended!
Fabulous food - exceedingly good value, great service & a beautiful layout of the pub, it's obvious a lot of thought, time & expense has gone into their re-furb.
Will most def be back!
- Anastasia (6/5): - Room was very tired with exposed electrical wires, the room has never been dusted (cobwebs everywhere). Worst of all the bedding on one of the beds has never been changed from previous guests. Majority of the bedding and towels had marks on them. Would never go back
- Chris (4/5): - Friendly staff but property unfinished, dirty under the bed that doesn't look like its been cleaned for months and in dire need of refurbishment. Also very limited breakfast choice with no options if you are a vegetarian or vegan.
- Philip (4/5): - Booked 3doubles with onsuite got 2 no tea or coffee in one off the rooms very run down ,just bit old and tired needs lots off money spending on it.
- Katharine (1/5): - no working shower or TV. Dirty. Photos aren't up to date
- James (1/5): This is the WORST Hotel I have stayed in EVER. AVOID!! - Location is awesome! I stay away with work 4 to 5 nights a month so I see a lot of Hotels each year, and this has to be the worst without question. Firstly when I arrived its classed as a Haunted Hotel, which isn’t a big deal but should have been advertised for those that get spooked. I was told breakfast doesn’t start till 9am, however I decided then I wouldn’t want to eat there. Went to my room as was disappointed straight away. I always book a double bed, but there were 2 singles. The Carpet was threadbare and dirty and had paint on it, and there was a cable across the floor for the TV Aerial which I had to be careful of etc. Not great. However I went out to another hotel/pub and had dinner and a few pints. Came back, no TV remote. Went to Bar and they gave me one, that didn’t work and there was no TV signal. Couldn’t sit for 2 hours staring at the cobwebs, so went to Bar, and they gave me another room. At least this one had a double bed.
However this room was dirty. The sheets had some brown stains on them, hairs, and when I smelled the pillow, it was not fresh. Its clear the bedding hadn’t been changed from previous occupant/s. Needless to say I didn’t sleep well, but thought at least I can have a shower in the morning as I was itchy and felt dirty. That was a No too. The water mixer didn’t work, so the water was boiling. I tried everything, but only boiling water that I simply couldn’t stand under.
I would urge anyone not to stay here. This place should be condemned. Its in a stunning location, but the owners need to spend money on it. Paying over £100 I expect fitted (clean) carpets, a shower, a breakfast and a clean bed. DO NOT STAY HERE!
- Alex (10/5): Alex Ferguson - Very friendly wecolme, room was lovely and clean, breakfast was adequate to set you out for the day, staff was very polite and helpful
- Andreas (2/5): Katastrophe - Die Lage nahe am Strand Dreckig, alt, kaputt, schimmelig
- heather (5/5): - Location great breakfast Uncomfortable beds and pillows
Dirty carpet needed vacuum around the edges and was stained
Mould in the bathroom at the bottom of the shower
Only served Indian food in the restaurant
