Guest Reviews
- Beverly (10/5): Beautiful setting, clean, quiet and convenient! - Desert Riviera is convenient to many places to eat and shop. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. All rooms are right off the pool and you couldn’t hear any noise. Would stay again! Not a thing
- Sidney (10/5): We will be back! Felt very comfortable and welcomed! Thanks Corbin..love your name! - Everything!! Corbin was my fav! Location, service, friendliness!
- Manu & Olli (10/5): -
- Lisa (9/5): Great vibe and all guests were welcoming and including people to join them to socialize around the fire pit or TV or BBQ - The inviting small cozy feel.
- ALEXANDRE (9/5): -

- Christine (10/5): Perfect in every way! Our favorite hotel so far! - Breakfast was good. As expected. Plenty of choice, lots of juices, great yogurt choices. Good cereal choice.
We also loved the 2 free water bottles, and two free sparkling waters in our fridge. As well, the complimentary snacks in our room: cashews, lollies, chips, etc. was a nice addition!
Pool was lovely and the hot tub was perfect and so protected from the wind. Open 24/7 was a huge surprise!
Lots of loungers, bicycles for a ride to the store, pizza oven, I could go on! We will be back and will stay longer. We could only stay one night!
- Stefano (10/5): -
- ROBERT (3/5): Did not find hospitality - Grounds People
- Jesus (10/5): - The staff were helpful and friendly. The room and outdoor section was clean. We really enjoyed staying here. We will definitely stay here again.
- 431missyf (10/5): 17th year here and still amazing!! - My first visit to the Desert Riviera Hotel was in 2009 and we have returned every year (sometimes twice a year). This place is a rare gem.
It is a slightly communal place (but you can isolate easily). We have made so many amazing friends from all over the world.
The rooms are CLEAN!!!! Monica and Sara, the main housekeeping crew, are the loveliest people and take such care when cleaning your room and the outdoor areas.
The hotel focuses on the pool which is always well heated with lots of varied floaties to use. There are two firepits, one to sit around while you start your day with fresh coffee on the table, and one higher up firepit where you can sit and enjoy your dinner while watching tv (and it's covered in case of rain).
The staff is kind and helpful, Lynda, Terri, Corbin and Mike are always there and such nice people. I consider them friends.
You will read in some comments about how it's "different". It is. Since 2009 the DR is under is fourth owner. The first two and the current owners all brought/bring something to the table that helps the hotel. It is true that the DR has a slightly different vibe today than in the past, but that is to be expected with different owners. The third owners seem to not care so much and it showed, so the current owners are mending the issues of the third owner. However, they all have the same final goal, to keep the family spirit of the hotel. If you are new to this place you will have nothing to compare it to and will LOVE it!! I understand the "old timers" views but things change and we have to roll with it. This is still a #1 hotel.
While we were there the new owners paid for the staff of Leo (the best all purpose worker), Lynda, Sara, Luci and Reyna spent the day preparing the most authentic Mexican meal EVER!!! It was the best meal I've ever eaten - super tasty and made with love. All the guests enjoyed it as well as the staff. It was a magical night.
To sum up, if you are a chill person, this is the place for you (we don't want any uptight guests!!!!). As long as the DR is around we will be there every March and October!!!!!
Thanks again to the DR staff for being so kind and amazing, we greatly appreciate you!
- DrStroke (6/5): Generally eroded since we were here last year - At check in, receptionist noted that hotel had been sold since we were last here. Hard to put my finger on it exactly, but generally seemed less hospitalable and disheveled, as others have noticed in their recent reviews. Seemed to have less staff around compared to before. Photo attached of poor shape of interior door.
- Patricia (10/5): We will definitely stay here again. - It was very clean, and I love how intimate the grounds were. Our room was very spacious and comfortable. It was also very quiet. The staff was very friendly, and were only a text away when we had questions. The only thing that was a little bit of a problem was the water pressure in the shower was pretty extreme, even on the lowest setting.
- Joanna (10/5): -
- SmartTravelerA2Z (10/5): A Place With Real Palm Springs Soul for Walking, Swimming and Biking - We’ve stayed at the Desert Riviera Hotel many times over the years, and we keep coming back because it's consistently welcoming, comfortable, and well-managed. This is a true boutique hotel, not a large resort, and it delivers exactly what it promises.
A shout-out to the staff: Misty, Lynda, Michael, Corbin, and Teri keep the hotel running smoothly, and Monica, Sara, and Leo keep the rooms and property tidy. The staff is warm, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive, and the property always feels calm and well-maintained. Rooms are spacious, bright, and very clean, with classic mid-century Palm Springs style. A thoughtful touch is the Welcome Basket with snacks on the table and water and sparkling water in the fridge to hold you over until you can get to the nearby grocery store.
Each room includes a practical kitchenette with a sink, coffee maker, electric teapot, small fridge, microwave, and a table for coffee or casual indoor meals. Outdoors, there’s an excellent shared kitchen with barbecues, an electric pizza oven, a covered fire-pit table, and a community pantry with a shared fridge and basic condiments.
Breakfast is a self-serve continental breakfast, not a hot buffet. It typically includes good local coffee, juices, milk, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, fruit, bagels, toast, and spreads — simple and convenient. A coffee thermos is also available at the fire pit early each morning.
The location is walkable to nearby amenities. Food options are especially convenient. Ralphs and Jensen’s grocery stores are nearby, making it easy to shop for cooking at the hotel, or several very good restaurants and coffee shops are within easy walking distance. Try nearby Gabino's Creperie for delicious savory crepes!
The pool is comfortably warm for relaxing or swimming laps, while the hot tub, fire pit, and gardens create a peaceful, enjoyable atmosphere from early morning to late evening.
Nearby is the CV Link, a 40-mile car-free network of paved paths for biking and walking throughout the Coachella Valley. You can use the hotel’s free bikes, take a 7-minute walk to Big Wheel Tours to rent an e-bike or a specialty bike, or book a guided bicycle tour. It’s a fun, easy, scenic way to explore Palm Springs’ neighborhoods without getting in the car.
It’s no surprise that Desert Riviera consistently ranks among Palm Springs’ top hotels on TripAdvisor and has earned Travelers’ Choice and Best of the Best honors. That reputation reflects years of consistent care, character, and genuine hospitality, which 99% of guests have appreciated.
For travelers seeking a relaxed, welcoming, and unmistakably Palm Springs hotel, Desert Riviera is an excellent choice.
- GARRY (10/5): - excellent on all levels
- Mathew (8/5): -
- Jeff (10/5): Awesome desert getaway! - This is a small hotel. There was no noise from the adjacent rooms. Staff were always hospitable and engaging. I love the fact that they have kept the layout and feel from a by-gone era, but have also kept the room up to date. Although the bathroom looks like it is from the 50's, the shower is awesome. Bed was comfortable, Two large closets. Fridge, coffee maker, and dishes were nice. This was our second stay and we expect to be back again. It was early January, the sun disappeared behind a mountain at 3:40 in the afternoon. The pool area was in the shade after that time of day.
- Y3875KKleew (6/5): Just Adequate, and Quality Has Plummeted in Recent Years - Imagine a hotel with an attentive staff, free beer by the pool, a drink handed to you on check-in, yummy snacks in the room, tasty popcorn every evening by the pool, a spotless pool, free bikes, spotless rooms, and an enticing breakfast.
Well, that's not the Desert Riviera of today. Those are the qualities that helped the Desert Riviera gain 5 stars in the past. When you visited, you felt like you were stepping into a premium hotel. You felt taken care of. It was not just a hotel; it was an experience. The Desert Riviera is merely resting on the laurels of previous ownership and management's laurels.
We've been coming here for years, so we can outline the hotel's changes. First, it is not a 5-star hotel, by any stretch of the imagination. Relative to Palm Springs, it rates 4 stars, maybe even 3 stars.
The hotel's previous qualities are now this:
* A non-existent staff, likely attending to the sister property, the Hotel California. For the first couple of days, there was no staff on premises, other than housekeeping. On the third day, a staff member did occupy the front office. On check-in, we had to text a number to get a staff member to show up, and this took 20 to 30 minutes.
* No free beer by the pool.
* No drink handed to you on check-in.
* So-so snacks in the room that are more like airline snacks.
* Popcorn likely popped in the microwave and dumped into the poolside popcorn maker.
* A pool that's still nice, but with a few small weeds growing up on the coping.
* Still free bikes. But every morning, we had to unlock the giant cable holding all of the bikes together by ourselves. Not an easy task.
* Spotless rooms. One afternoon, we rested poolside while housekeeping spent a long time on the room. The room was in fantastic condition when we came in. They forgot to replenish the snacks, but we were able to flag someone down and get them.
* A pitiful breakfast. Without exaggeration, we've had better breakfasts in Best Westerns. Weak coffee, Otis Spunkmeyer muffins, plastic-wrapped bagels, over-sugary energy bars, cream in tiny cups. This one is easy to fix. Simply order one bagel per guest from Townie Bagels and Bakery. Upgrade the coffee to a local brand or, at the very least, Starbuck's. Put the cream cheese in one nice container. Cream in carafes. Add fresh fruit. The breakfast is not even adequate; it's so embarrassing that no breakfast would be a better alternative.
In short, it's not a horrible experience. It's simply: A Palm Springs Small Hotel. Nothing delightful, nothing magical, nothing creative and inspiring, and not worth the cost.
With this last experience, we resolved never to come back to the Desert Riviera. Palm Springs has plenty of other options.
- Nuno (9/5): Muito bom - Muito bom O quarto precisa de alguma renovação, nomeadamente a casa de banho
- Arvind (6/5): Nice and cozy, great location, room could be maintained better. - Location: away from the crowds yet close to the action.
Staff: very friendly.
Room: nice and large. Separate kitchen area was nice. All basic kitchen accessories, plates, bowls and cutlery were provided. So, we could make sandwiches before leaving for the trips. At night we could take carryout on the way back and eat in the comfort of our room Breakfast: absolute basic stuff. Nothing hot or warm.
Room: shower knobs were not in good condition. Room door lock barely engaged. Handle was loose and in spite of requesting it to be fixed, nothing was done.
- Daniel (9/5): -
- aarthi (9/5): Excellent facilities and staff, a fantastic stay! - Excellent facilities, very thoughtful amenities and great staff. Coffee carafe nearer to the fireplace every morning, popcorn at 4 and a great assortment of breakfast everyday with a very friendly staff and a beautiful pristine pool.. we had the best stay !! Nothing ..
- animateme (10/5): Very classy Palm Springs - Beautiful place. We stayed only one night, passing through on our way from LA to Vegas. It was a short stay but we enjoyed it very much. We took a dip in the pool in late afternoon / evening and it was very nice and relaxing. After checking-in, we got a quick tour of the nice facilities, by the nice gentleman who greeted us. Not much time to experience the hotel but we did have some popcorn from the machine by the pool. We loved the stylish 70's decor. We will certainly be back for a longer stay.
- Stephanie (10/5): I would definitely stay here again! - This place was a gem! It was secluded but close to everything. We loved our stay! Nothing! Everything was great.
- Melissa (10/5): Delightful stay - Beautiful grounds and excellent location. The pool is old and was need in a good scrubbing. The communal kitchen also needed some cleaning and or updating.
- Elena (10/5): Wish I could have stayed longer! - Very cute and comfortable! The room was more like an apartment and had everything.
The staff go out of their way to make sure their customers are enjoying the property. There is not one thing I disliked about this hotel. I felt at home the moment I walked in!
- Kyoungjin (9/5): much more than I expected - breakfast was pretty good & very very spacious room
- Grant (10/5): Amazing experience exceeded expectations…wish we could have stayed longer but will definitely return - Full of character, from the colour design layout the pool and all the add-ons such as inflatable toys -the lounges, bbqs, pizza oven popcorn maker outdoor TV
The position of tables allowing for privacy and shade, fire pit tables to enjoy a drink at in the evening. A communal kitchen available for storing food, supply with a ready supply of ice and unlimited complimentary bottles of water.
The room was tastefully designed and well equipped with a basket of complimentary treats to snack on.
Breakfast Selection great bagels, muffins, fruit, yoghurt , eggs and muesli bars for those in a hurry.
They have bikes you can borrowing and i
noted golf clubs as well.
And one of the nicest things is the attitude of the staff especially Linda …nothing was a problem and given how small the Desert Riviera is -the atmosphere amongst the guests is light and friendly. I can’t answer this because we were super impressed with everything

Our double queen room was very clean and larger than expected. The pool was Exactly the right temperature to enjoy all day. Teri and Ann couldn't have been more welcoming and present during our stay.
I highly recommend the Desert Riviera for a relaxing and enjoying vacation.

- Ana (10/5): Excellent hotel - The place is very quite and nice, with a huge room, a big bed and very good system of air conditioning and, it was very hot outside but it worked very very well at the room. You have also a kitchen with fridge and a table with chairs. The bathroom is also great and very comfortable, quite clean. The room is quite clean. They have a nice swimming pool and BBQ. You find some drinks in the fridge and some snacks in the room . The owners were very kind and we felt like at home. If we be back in the future at Palm Spring , we will get it there for sure. Nothing, all was perfect
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional - Palm Springs is oasis in the desert, the scenery is breathtaking beautiful. - dennisy837 (8/5): Another fun time at D.R. - We have been coming here for a very long time. We have been through several owners, and the latest ones took over this past March if I am not mistaken. They are starting to make some improvements and repair things that had been neglected. Still some more work to do. They have also made some changes that we aren't fond of but it is what it is. (Lack of early check in and closed gates for example.) We've learned that running a boutique hotel is not a highly profitable endeavor. The current owners own several other P.S. properties, which helps spread the costs. All that aside, we've also seen a lot of staff turnover but the current staff, and those before, have all been wonderful. The room we usually stay in is always super clean, as are the others we have stayed in. We really like it here and will keep coming back.
- Linda (10/5): Beautiful setting. Generous food offerings. Nice pool area. Room comfortable - Very generous with breakfast food and fruit and water. Room was fabulous and wallpaper great. The pool was good size and there is an outdoor barbeque area and staff turns on popcorn machine in late afternoon/evening. The flora and fauna is beautiful and very well maintained. Bicycles available for use. Parking was no problem and in a great location. Will certainly return. Instructions needed for remote control. Otherwise everything else was wonderful.
- Carolyn (10/5): Fabulous find. Will definitely be back. - Loved everything! This is my new favorite hotel. Peaceful setting, super cute and well maintained. Pool is large, easy access, plenty of pool chairs. Room was fabulous, spacious, clean, comfortable, stylish.

- Sightseer53924055148 (10/5): Exceeded Expectations — We’ll Be Back! - Our stay was truly amazing. The rooms were spacious, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and everything was spotless. The atmosphere was peaceful, making it perfect for our group of friends to unwind and enjoy. What stood out the most was the service, Manager Misty was exceptional. She was professional, attentive, and ensured that everything ran smoothly from check-in to check-out. Her warm energy set a positive tone for our entire stay. This property exceeded our expectations in every way. If you’re looking for comfort, cleanliness, and excellent hospitality, this is the place to be. We will definitely be back.
- 406irish (10/5): One of the best in Palm Springs - This is one of the best boutique hotels in the Palm Springs area. I really enjoy the garden environment. The staff is always so accommodating and the rooms have wonderful amenities. It's a peaceful Oasis in the desert
- Mark (10/5): My partner and I have been to this hotel before and we absolutely love everything about. This was our second stay and wi - The privacy, the service, and the environment. Loved the party all around. No notes.
- OneWorld_1962 (10/5): Warmest welcome in Palm Springs! - The room (studio apt. really) was comfortable and wonderfully decorated in '50's fashion. The pool is beautiful, as is the lushy surrounding vegetation (and mountains). But the very best part of this hotel is the warmth and genuine caring of the staff who work there. The welcome feels real, and the farewell feels like saying goodbye to good friends. I hope to be back!
- thomascH5562CF (10/5): frequent traveler - Another enjoyable 8 night stay! Thanks to Linda and Teri for their amazing hospitality and a shout out to Housekeeper Monica! We did however miss Steve's presence and his amazing goodies! It will be interesting to see how the buyout of the hotel will effect things going forward ! Hope it doesn't change!
- Cindy (10/5): Exceptional - It was wonderful, and it felt like home. Very calm, quiet, and just relaxing. The staff is amazingly wonderful and helpful. I didn't realize I booked the mini apartment it was amazing. It had everything we needed. It even had its own private patio. It was like booking an airbnb with hotel prices. They even left us snacks on the dining room table. In the morning, there was a continental breakfast, and they had fresh baked bagels, pastries, yogurt with freshly made granola, muffins, and even hard-boiled eggs. The coffee was amazing. It was from a coffee shop named Koffie, I believe. The pool area had a lot of seating. There were bbqs, a pizza oven, and a popcorn machine. The grounds were covered in plants and trees with beautiful flowers. There's also a community kitchen for all the guests to use, which had coffee machines, water, ice, water bottles, and sparkling water. I would so recommend this place to everyone and I have already. I would definitely return to this hotel. That I had to leave.
- Rochdi (10/5): Fantastic stay. Highl Recommended - I had a great experience during my stay at this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and made me feel welcome throughout my visit. The hotel had everything I needed – privacy, comfort, and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s conveniently located, not far from downtown and close to everything in Palm Springs. I truly enjoyed my stay and will definitely choose this hotel again for my next trip to Palm Springs Nothing
- DayTrip648842 (10/5): An amazing find in Palm Springs! - An amazing find in Palm Springs!! A mint-condition 50's retro resort with the most friendly service. Our gracious hosts baked fresh banana bread and homemade bagels for breakfast! We were 3 friends so they set up an extra bed before we arrived. The hotel across the street was 3x the price and not as comfy or interesting. The decor is tasteful and bright, a perfect relaxing poolside get-away. Can't recommend it enough.
- sandrafM5466AX (10/5): A Hidden Gem in the Desert! - This boutique hotel is infused with a warm, retro-chic charm that captures the spirit of Palm Springs perfectly. Plus, the friendliest, most helpful staff you can find. The grounds are lush and peaceful, with a sparkling pool, relaxing music and the sound of birds chirping. What really sets Desert Riviera apart, though, is the hospitality. The staff is super friendly and genuinely care. They were more than happy to help me with some printing needs. Our room was clean, very spacious, and well-appointed with a full kitchen and complementary snacks. Did I mention they bake their own muffins and bagels for the continental breakfast? Super yummy! Fresh coffee and fruits available all day at the front desk. Cute matching retro bikes are available to explore the neighborhood. Pure relaxation and charm. We can’t wait to return!
- Dan (10/5): Chill in Nostalgia at Boutique Hotel - Phenomenal property!! Nostalgia and boutique hotel is chill and staff are next level!! Location pool and everything about the Hotel are spectacular can’t wait to go back🙌🏻🙌🏻💯 N/A
- Carter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carter (10/5): A true Gem 💎 - Cleanliness, friendliness of the entire staff was above and beyond, the grounds are beautiful, I could go on and on …. If there was anything I’d say the street noise.
- Robert (10/5): An amazing find! I will.e back again and again - Hosts are so friendly. Beautiful pool. Chill vibe. Great amenities and ample breakfast. The decor is amazing, retro but mint. It is a bit far from downtown but a quick Uber
- LAC2LAC (10/5): Wonderful, one-of-a-kind hotel! - Stressed after travel plans changed and I needed a last-minute stay in Palm Springs, I was grateful when the Desert Riviera Hotel and its great reviews popped up in my search.
And what a gem it was! Comfortable, clean and peaceful, with fun, mid-century decor and the most incredibly welcoming staff. There were so many generous touches, like free snacks and drinks in the rooms, and an overall effort to make guests feel important. Count me among the many guests who are thinking about a return trip!
- Margaret (6/5): Staff very nice. Not as luxurious as promised - Very clean and quiet Old furniture. Not everything promised in kitchen. Was available. Only one waste basket which was in bathroom
- Steph (10/5): A beautiful, private, relaxing oasis - Everything! Gorgeous outdoor space with plenty of lounging and relaxing options. And ultimate privacy.
All the folks who work there are so friendly and helpful, it was like staying with family, but better 😄
- Andrea (5/5): Surrounded by retirees - Location The musty old smell in my room, the 70s rock playing all day long
- Suzanne (9/5): Great hotel easily accessible to anything you want to do in Palm Springs - This is an older property but renovated with a “boutique y” feel. It’s compact and sheltered with green hedges and flowers so you don’t know a bustling city is right outside the gate. The staff are the best I’ve ever met with hospitality. Terry, Linda, and Stephen are all so wonderful with the little extra comforts they provide. The rooms line a sparkling pool and community area, right outside your door. And a fan fave is the popcorn popped fresh every night! The shower is a smaller space like a phone booth. But still has everything you need. These rooms are bigger than most hotels and have a kitchenette.
- Suzanne (10/5): Return guests! - We were so impressed with this hotel when we first arrived in Palm Springs that we booked again 3 days later when we were flying out. Again the staff excels in hospitality! Forgot to mention the grab and go breakfast available for our 0400 check out. Loved it all!
