Guest Reviews
- Kristi (10/5): Haven for a night. - So close to the sea! Went out and watched the sunrise. Beautiful! The bed was comfortable and the common areas are so cute. My husband thought the Monopoly game was the nicest he had ever seen.
- Joyce (10/5): -
We always love our stay here! Will come again!
- Marita (10/5): - 1 block to beach. Clean, comfortable and lovely breakfast.
- Gary (10/5): - We stayed one night, on a whim, and were pleasantly surprised. It was so quaint and inviting!
- Albert (8/5): Nice place! - It was very nice, good service, nice atmosphere. Ceiling fan didn’t work and floors squeaked waking us up
- Alice (4/5): - I didn’t like our “suite”. Old, dated furnishings with a bedspread that’s probably not cleaned in months. Roll away bed not placed until requested. Then we had to unfold it and set up. The wood floors creak. Very loud with people walking. I would not recommend this place or return to it.
- Cynthia (8/5): - Very cozy B&B close to beach. Dated but still inviting. Lots of books and games to play and share with family and friends. Suggestions maybe a kerig coffee machine available for coffee for those early birds. Less heavy bed comforters less cluttter in rooms and hallways. It is such a beautiful Inn less would be more. I was sold on a working fireplace but that was not available. Staff was pleasant and helpful. We will visit again sometime.
- Cathy (10/5): - We had a great time. We went up for nostalgic reasons. We enjoyed our stay, the staff was very helpful and pleasant. We highly recomend.
- Jade (10/5): - We loved our stay at Haven By The Sea B&B!! It felt like staying at your grandma’s house, the decor was so cute, it was so quiet and cozy, and there were many breakfast options! The only thing I have to say is that the walls were thin and the pillows uncomfortable, but apart form that, we had the best time. The ladies working there were so helpful with planning our itinerary and filling our needs. Would definitely stay there again:)
- Peter (10/5): - WONDERFUL PLACE ALL AROUND!
- Mary-Howell R (8/5): - This is a unique property in a great location, a block walk to steps down to the beach.
The room was comfortable and clean, not large but sufficient for my needs. The common areas are a bit overstuffed with books, games, puzzles, too dark and overcrowded with chairs, ‘decor’, pictures and stuff, but thoughtful to provide abundant entertainment.
It is not a quiet building, the old wooden floors creak loudly and echo with walking, door closings, talking. Not easily resolved. Just be prepared for a lot of noises whenever other guests are in the halls.
The breakfast room and deck are beautiful but the food was definitely lackluster, about standard Motel 6 fare. The cream for coffee was sour. The muffins still frozen inside, but when thawed, were crumbly and stale. No breakfast meats or warm items. An inn like this should put more effort into providing more than merely an ‘adequate’ breakfast. At least one fresh warm baked product and some sausage or bacon would make a big difference.
Rooms do not get tended every day. Because of that, the envelope and prominent sign for gratuities in the room seemed a bit, well, especially since they charge $25 cleaning fee on top of typical hotel rates and don’t staff a front desk.
One note - there is no beach at high tide. Seriously, the waves break against the seawall, the bottom of the steps is under water. It is nice at low tide, so plan ahead especially if you want to be on the beach at high tide. Check tide tables online.
- Tara (2/5): - Old, expensive,musty, limited parking,noisy
- Barbara (10/5): - Clean,beds very comfortable
- Marybeth (10/5): Unique, great location - Very unique and nice B&B. We enjoyed our stay. So close to the beach —which is beautiful. Our room got a little warm but overall a good place.
- Muriel (10/5): - Wonderful place
- Carmen (8/5): - It was a beautiful and comfortable place , the staff very nice and friendly close to the beach , but when I received my credit card bill there was a fee for $25 and I don’t know where it came from , trying to find the receipt , not sure we left the place same as we got it , but other than that it was nice.
- Jeffrey (6/5): - The place is gorgeous!! Very elegant! While check in was a bit of a hassle, the room code was not working to get into the room, no big deal! We called a got it squared away but the customer service was not great. The guy acted like it was an inconvenience to HIM that he had to change it for us. Then upon opening the door finally, it was not as advertised. We booked room 10, a king bed. When we walked in it was a full size bed. Double doors that were unlocked opened into another room with a dining area, couches and a king bedroom. We thought then the entire thing must be ours because there the king bed was. But upon asking the man on the phone, he said that those doors were supposed to be locked as that is a separate room for other guests. He said “sorry you can use the king bed but don’t touch anything else in the room or we will have to charge you triple for cleaning fees. Which was kinda rude and odd to me considering it was not our mistake, it was his. He was very irritated and rude. We decided to just stay in the full size bedroom. Even though we paid for a king, the room was perfectly clean. Bathroom was clean and showers were HOT!! Other than the customer service, it was beautiful.
- Nancy (10/5): - Very welcoming and cosy. The building itself was structurally unique. I really enjoyed breakfast in the dining room with outdoor seating as an option. What I didn’t like was leaving!
- Michael (10/5): - This property has a calm and relaxing feel to it. The staff was extremely helpful and very nice. At check- in we were even offered champagne. They have these nice little wagons that have beach chairs, towels, and a cooler to go to the beach. Breakfast was decent and the location is perfect. I will definitely stay at th Haven by the sea again.
- Mark (2/5): - Property is clean but in serious need of updating. We stayed in the #5 suite. Everything in our room was painted a very dismal brown. The decor may have looked good in 1960 but is very tacky now. No AC. Breakfast was very substandard.
- Cathy (10/5): - Nice expereince
- Sandy (10/5): - The B&B is a charming inn that was converted from an old Catholic Church. I was there for business but it is a block from a wonderful beach for those wanting sun and fun time in and by the water. The staff was exceptional.
- Arnold (10/5): Great choice, lovely accomodations - A lovely b&b, minute walk to the beach. Very comfy bed, clean bath. Nice breakfast room w/elegant tablecloths, fresh muffins, cereal choices, bagels/toast. My go-to each morning was the cottage cheese and fresh berries. Nice selection of teas/coffee/cocoa. No fridge/micro in room, but community kitchenette was fine for our needs. Bar service, but we didn’t use it. Games and puzzles, books galore available.
- Stephen (6/5): - It’s a wonderful place, location and the staff were great. However the walls are thin heard snoring all night and the rooms are too dark, did not feel like a beach environment. The breakfast area was very bright and welcoming.
- DEBORAH (10/5): - Great location. Very nice accommodations and lots of relaxing spots to hang out in besides the room. Good breakfast and excellent service from staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Maine getaway - We stayed for two nights and were so pleased. The inn is charming, the staff so friendly and accommodating. While it is not the most modern of rooms … the overall feel is friendly, caring, welcoming… there are great sitting areas throughout with comfy chairs, books, games, puzzles. We enjoyed the historic significance of staying in a former church. It adds to the unique charm of the place. I would highly recommend.
- Glenn H (10/5): - was quiet and enjoyable
- Maryrose (10/5): - This location was truly charming and exceptionally tidy. Thestaff was friendly and accessible whenever we required assistance. Would definitely stay there again
- gordon (6/5): - Old. Needs updated. Appreciate the renovated building, but decor is dated and smells. Breakfast options were limited. Under new ownership as of January. Previous reviews reflected a wonderful breakfast. Only offered grab and go with no protein options. Carb loaded muffins and danishes. Coffee maker did not work.
- Carole (4/5): - Need staff training, 24 hour coffee machine fixed!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Very unusual property- a great stay
- Manuel (10/5): - The inn’s hosts were very welcoming; they made us feel at home! The breakfast was outstanding, the Inn was well decorated and the property was very unique which was a contributing factor to the overall experience. Would highly recommend!
- Edoardo (10/5): - It was a wonderful stay in a beautifully restored church with convenient access to the beach one block away.
- Kathy (10/5): - Very personable host! Lovely inn, spacious and cozy. Breakfast served each morning also gets a 5 star rating! We will be back!
- Douglas (10/5): - My stay at Haven By The Sea Bed and Breakfast was exceptional. The establishment was spotless, with beautiful decor that created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Nancy and her staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience. It truly felt like a home away from home.
- Jacques (10/5): - Beautiful B&B!
- Richard (8/5): - Lot of noise from floor above and neighboring rooms.
- John (6/5): - A/C did not work. Very warm in room. Couldn’t open window for air no screens.
Breakfast was OK but limited in hours.
- Tyson (10/5): - Very nice place to stay
- Kathleen (10/5): - Awesome hosts. Everything you want or need great location!!
- David (10/5): - Lovely accommodations and host. Breakfast was amazing.
Beautiful beach just a short walk away. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- elizabeth (10/5): - Excellent breakfast
- Catherine (10/5): - Spacious and clean rooms, convenient beach access, friendly and personable staff. Planning to return next year!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming B&B by the sea - This B&B is an absolute treasure! Everything about my experience was a delight. I've already recommended to several people.
- Nerexy (10/5): - Me gusto lo callado del ligar y el facil acceso a la playa. Lo que puede mejorar es abastecer productos para el cuerpo y cabello en la ducha.
- Peter (10/5): - Wonderful inn; friendly and welcoming innkeepers, and comfortable, relaxing facilities. A fantastic stay!
- robert (10/5): Haven says it all! - This was one of the nicest accommodations we have ever experienced. The hosts, Dan and Nancy, couldn't be nicer and the facility is just amazing. It is in an old tastefully done Catholic Church. The room was spacious and quiet. Breakfasts were outstanding and the facility is an easy drive to restaurants and attractions. We need to find an excuse to get to Wells just so we can stay in the Haven by the Sea once again.
- GAIL (10/5): - Haven by the Sea is unique; it in an old deconsecrated Catholic Church and so nicely renovated. Nancy and Danny are great hosts. Breakfast was phenomenal, especial the French Toast. It was a good idea to have a bar available even though we didn't use it. Thanks for putting TVs in the guest rooms. We'll be back! Gail & Harry
- Monica (6/5): - Room was very cold.
- Brian (10/5): Beautiful escape - Great place.
Incredible building and service.
Great location... took a walk on beautiful beach right after check in.
- Trevor (10/5): - 👍
- mary (10/5): - Dan cooked a gourmet breakfast. The B&B was warm and cozy. Dan and Nancy were both friendly and hospitable. Everything was clean, tastefully decorated, they were accomodating and it was a short walk to the beach. The rooms were comfortable. The linens, pillows, and beds very comfortable. I highly recommend staying here.
- Janine (8/5): - Lovely innkeepers, excellent breakfast, beautiful property convenient to both Ogonquit and Kennebunkport.
- Steven (10/5): - We have stayed at literally over 100 B&Bs, and this is clearly one of my top 5. Nancy and Danny have built a comfortable, elegant Inn without relying on a lot of kitschy stuff. They leave you to yourself, while also offering great suggestions on enjoying the Maine beach area. Breakfast was wonderful. We will be back.
- Dorrae (10/5): A must stay! - Such a lovely place to stay! Our hosts, Danny and Nancy were awesome! Their Inn is beautiful. Just a quick walk to the beach. Awesome homemade breakfast. Quick drive to Ogunquit and Perkins Cove.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Beautiful property just missed the mark on some basics. Fresh coffee could have bewn available early but was not. More choices for breakfast would have been nice with only one option offered. Onsite bar waa nice but limes were not available but not a huge issue. Hoping to be "wowed" but missed the mark
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean and rooms are very nicely decorated. Breakfast was great. Nice, quiet and cozy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful converted church, pleasingly appointed. Spacious suite, comfortable rooms and common areas. Quiet and just a two minute walk to the beach. Great hosts.
- Marilyn (8/5): Comfortable and full of character - Beautiful space with lots of character. Many nice touches I didn’t have time to take advantage of but I’ll come back for those one day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved everything about this unique inn. Breakfast was amazing and the hosts wonderful. I will be going back for a much longer stay.
- GORDON (8/5): Ok stay. - It was a pleasant stay, but facility was old and needed some sprucing/fixing up. Hosts were awesome. The value for the price isn’t there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place was simply wonderful. The entire place was super clean and so well maintained. Beautifully furnished and the owners make you feel utterly welcome and appreciated. It was quiet and comfortable. Sheets so soft, pillows great. The history of the place is fantastic too. We got a grand tour when we checked in. We went there for our wedding night and because it was raining that day we asked if it was ok if our justice office the peace conducted our wedding in our beautiful room. They were super sweet to oblige. The owners even joined us in our cake cutting and offered us and our witnesses champagne to celebrate. So much more than we ever expected. We cannot wait to come stay here again. This will forever be our place. The view out on the beautiful marshes from the dining area is so relaxing and beautiful. We really wished we didn't have to go back to work the next day, but we will definitely be back again and again. Breakfast was good. Yogurt and granola parfait, then baked egg frittata, lightly dressed salad and toast. Very close to the beach too. Just a few min walk away. Can't wait to return.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Best place to stay in Maine! The owners of the property were amazing, and it felt so welcoming.
- Leigh (10/5): We would love to return. - This BnB is in a wonderful location and is just charming. Nancy and Dan are wonderful, attentive, helpful. Breakfast was great.
We had a lovely stay,
Leigh
- DavidandSheila (10/5): - The Haven by the Sea was just perfect! We went over Columbus Day weekend and it was our first stay at the Inn. It is beautiful and we loved the uniqueness. It is literally one block over from the ocean, so very easy to walk the beach. The innkeepers were so very nice and welcoming. The breakfast was fabulous. We will definitely go there again!
- David (8/5): BETTER THAN EXPECTED - very comfortable. great place to stay
- Karen (10/5): - Wonderful place!! Felt like we were staying at some ones home. The hosts are friendly, helpful and so welcoming. The rooms are charming and beautifully decorated with many decorative objects. Sitting rooms and outside on the porch or back deck are delightful for sitting and relaxing. The location one block to the beach was the best! Enjoy the beach morning noon and night whenever you please. Gourmet breakfast cooked and served every morning were delicious. Staying here was the highlight of our first trip to Maine.
- Sarah (2/5): Disgusting B&B **DO NOT STAY HERE!! - This was the absolute WORST hotel experience I have ever encountered. We arrived at about 4 pm to locked doors and no employee insight. No sign on the door notifying us what to do. We waited over 45 minutes and still no employee. The accommodations are run down and very unwelcoming. Extremely patronizing and un-accomodating owners. I will NEVER stay here again. For the money, there are much better and more appealing accommodations in the area. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was immaculate. Breakfast was fantastic made to order and the staff was very friendly. You truly felt at home.
- Brian (10/5): Great weekend getaway... - My wife and I had been interested in staying here for some time and finally booked a night to try it out. We were not disappointed. The room and the service was fantastic! We'll be back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Innkeepers were wonderful and very helpful. Breakfasts were awesome!!!!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - expensive for what it is. Had we known, we would have booked elsewhere
- Verified traveler (8/5): - the room and the bb are both beautiful. Has the class, the romance. The floors are very very noisey out of there control. Shower and tub water heater to supply the bb is terrible. either takes forever, no water pressure and no heat. At 10pm the people who rent upstairs starting stomping on the ceiling for us to quite down when we just came back from dinner and was having a drink with out neighbors. We could see if it was midnight but it was 10pm. Relax and on a Saturday
- mastercard (10/5): Excellent... ther is no better B&B - this place is beautiful and very well maintained. The staff are very friendly..the food is in my opinion a 10 star. Breakfast every morning is spectacular.
very very clean and beautifully decorated. i enjoyed my stay so much I will be back..thank you Haven by the Sea...
- Mike (10/5): - Beautiful property. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay
- Caryl (10/5): Awesome & Unique Getaway - My daughter and I stayed at Haven By the Sea for 3 nights for a Mother/Daughter getaway. It was a perfect place for us. The location was awesome -- midway between Ogunquit and Kennebunkport, close to shops, restaurants, a 1 minute walk to Wells Beach and a sunset view of the marsh. Nancy & Dan were good hosts, although since we had a private entrance we did not see them much except during breakfast. The Inn itself is lovely, very unique (as it was originally a church), and there are comfy cozy spots to lounge in. Our suite was more than adequate and nicely furnished with all the amenities we could have asked for including our own mini fridge and a gas fireplace. The bed was comfortable, there were 2 TVs (which we did not use) and a nice sized porch with a high table and 2 high chairs so we could see the ocean view. There were games, puzzles, beach chairs, umbrella, if needed, coolers, etc. We didn't know so we brought our own. It was peaceful and quiet.
Breakfast on day one was a bit lacking...honeydew melon, 1 pancake, 1 sausage and a tiny bit of garden salad. Days 2 and 3 were awesome breakfasts! Day 2 was an egg and bacon filled crepe and a fresh fruit salad. Day 3 was freshly homemade apple sauce (YUM) with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream followed by eggs of choice, a sausage and toast. Coffee was always available and Nancy and Dad were attentive to my daughter's dairy free request. I would highly recommend Haven By the Sea and hope to return again soon!
- Marcia (10/5): - Everything was exceptional! The location is great, the beds are very comfy and the entire inn is immaculate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property itself is gorgeous - a beautifully rehabbed church built in 1920. This Inn was everything I like in a B&B: superb room, excellent breakfast, friendly and informative hosts, easy access, great location. Our only complaint was that we wished we could have stayed longer!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything was fantastic! The owners sat and talked with us and even let us love on their dogs. Breakfast and the bar were amazing. Very friendly open atmosphere. My only issue being 6'5" was the shower head being at my chin level...but everything else outweighed that. We will deffinately be returning.
- Meryl (8/5): Winter Retreat to Enjoy Local Christmas Festivitie - Great location that is very close to Ogunquit and Kennebunkport, and the ocean! The Inn is a former church with lots of charm.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Our experience - The room smelled. We don't know how to describe it. Like maybe going into a basement. As soon as we opened the door the smell hit us. There was no clock, tv or radio. For breakfast we did not have a choice. Just what was prepared. Always should have a choice for breakfast.
- RecentVisitor (8/5): - Great location, lovely facilities. Food good, but not exceptional.
