Guest Reviews
- Denise (10/5): - Great place to relax without noise or interruptions. Extremely clean.
- Richard (8/5): - No one in lobby at check in. Called # and they took care of us right away. Also called with an issue and it was resolved right away.
Very clean but small
- Aaron (10/5): - Very clean and convenient location to the beach!
- Barb (10/5): - Loved the atmosphere. Cute rooms very clean. Centrally located to the beaches and the shops.
- Mirie (10/5): Great place to stay in Douglas/ Saugatuck area! - Pines Motor Lodge was a quiet, family-friendly place to stay over the Labor Day holiday. Steve is a great proprietor and it became my morning routine to get coffee and have a slice of banana bread in the lobby. Great location within walking distance of downtown Douglas and a few minute car ride to Saugatuck. We loved the 50’s decor, too!
- Gregory (10/5): Perfect Place - Great quiet gem. Large rooms with retro decor. Great location close to it all
- philip (8/5): - Fun theme and comfortable stay in nice location. Outdoor space makes for a unique gathering place for end of day conviviality
- Caroline (10/5): - This is a charming little place and we really enjoy staying here whenever we are in this part of Michigan. The receptionist seems like he’d rather be anywhere else but working and is not very friendly. The gift shop is also a mess and full of clutter. Otherwise, we really like it. They provide ice from a cooler and wine openers if you are in need. Parking slots are oddly designed, but convenient. Restaurants and like Phil’s and The Southerner are delicious. For fun, rent a bike and ride around the area and be sure to visit the giant Root beer barrel and enjoy an ice cold, frothy, frosty root beer!
- Kevin (10/5): - Excellent location, nice and clean, quaint, and friendly staff.
- Suzanne (10/5): - Centrally located
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place with great location
- Kathy (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay at the Pines. Comfortable beds, friendly staff, close to restaurants & shops
- Thomas (10/5): - Great spot for a weekend in Saugatuck!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Loved our stay!!! So clean and welcoming. A definite throwback vibe which we all enjoyed.
- Sheila (10/5): - This was a real experience staying in a motor lodge property. The owners have done a wonderful job of bringing back this point in time when tourists were just getting on the road and there were places like this all over the country.
- Patricia (10/5): - This motel is charming and so welcoming. Every detail was well thought from a customer point of view. We loved the coffee in the morning, the quaint decorated, the chairs all around the grounds to sit and chat, the manicured flower beds and the decor of the gift shop to the rooms. All very warm and cozy. Well maintained and very clean. Closetenouth to Dougals to walk to downtown. Longer hike to Saugatuck. Great location close to severa places to eat.
- Tom (10/5): - Clean, nice size rooms
comfortable beds
court yard garden with music relaxing feature
convenient to all points of interest
highly recommend
- Peggy (8/5): - It was cute clean lodge close to restaurant you could walk to.

- Jan (10/5): - Charming and spotless!!
- Aaron (10/5): - We were surprised to find the quaint location.
It was so clean and well maintained.
- Jane (8/5): - Place was cute. Office was closed so no coffee. TV (cable) didn’t work. No one there to help. Rooms were very unsoundproof. You could hear everything from the next room
- Sandra (10/5): Fun Place to Stay - The decor was fun. The property is well-kept, pride of ownership shows. Our room was VERY clean and comfortable.
- Amy (10/5): - Charming
- Diana (10/5): Cute place to stay - Very clean and comfortable hotel. We only stayed an overnight but would book here again. Hotel staff was very communicative. Close to the downtown restaurants and shops.
- Shawn (8/5): - Cute little place to stay. Very clean.
- John (10/5): - I was worried about this not being clean and not a well maintained property. But it was great. Everything was clean and well maintained. It is walking distance to downtown Saugatuck and some pretty good food. Thanks for hosting us.
- Keri (10/5): Updated retro motel - Cute retro motel. Completely updated. Has everything you need.
- David (10/5): charming mid-century motor lodge - Delightful, renovated 1950s motor lodge. Comfortable rooms, charming exterior and landscaping (great picnic area under mature pine trees), and excellent location for walking to downtown Douglas or even Douglas beach (less than 1 mi away). We'll be staying here again for sure!
- heideh (10/5): - The property was clean and very close to Douglas Saugatuk and Holland
- Leanne (10/5): - Very cute! Super clean and close to everything!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean! Quaint, comfortable, parking for 1 car right next to room, close to all you'll want to see. Easy check in!
- Tamela (8/5): Perfect Location - Our stay was amazing because we were able to visit with friends. The location of the Pines is perfect. The rooms was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom is very, very small. The walls are a bit thin so we were able to hear the guests staying next door to us. There is a lovely outdoor area for sitting and relaxing which is a big plus.
- Susan (10/5): - Great location and clean
- Heather (10/5): - The Pines was a perfect stop for myself and two older kids. We were able to walk everywhere and I loved having our car so close. Super quiet!
- Margaret (10/5): - Very clean. Room with king size bed was wonderful. Really nice property. Loved it. Would stay again.
- Elaine (10/5): - It is a lovely property. The rooms are updated and quite comfortable. Love the retro vib.
- Peter (10/5): - A very nice retro place to stay.
- Jill (10/5): Lovely place to stay! - Lovely place to stay. Many comforts like a cozy bed, hot showers, beautiful landscaping. Pretty center garden to sit in and they play relaxing music. Everyone is friendly and helpful!
- Janet (8/5): - The Expedia website states that this hotel had breakfast included. This was not the case. There was a small basket of fruit but I don’t consider that a breakfast.
- philip (10/5): - Comfortable and fun at fair price. Old school motor lodge updated for today
- Maroun (8/5): - There was not a couple of water bottle in the room. Otherwise it was perfect
- Symantha (10/5): - Great place to stay
- Douglas (10/5): - All great.
- Melody (10/5): - Very clean. Hidden gem!
- Lori (10/5): - Love this property. The rooms are clean, and comfortable. Close to Saugatuck and beautiful Oval Beach on Lake Michigan. I have stayed here before and will continue to when I'm in this area. 🙂
- Krystin (10/5): Super Cute Retro Hotel - What an awesome retro hotel in Saugatuck! I will definitely be back every summer!
- Angela (10/5): - Great
- Lynn (10/5): - Clean
- Bree (10/5): - We loved staying for a couple days at the Pines. The rooms are kept immaculately clean, and appear to be recently remodeled with a comfy bed. Walkable to the shops in Saugatuck with a considerable time commitment, but I did see a place renting bikes by the Root Beer Barrel, which would be a fun way to get around and explore. It’s a beautiful, peaceful, artsy area, and makes for a great weekend trip.
- Mary (10/5): - Great service
Fun room, super community patio
- AMY (10/5): Loved it! - Super clean and cozy. Convenient location, as we were able to get a free ride with the Interurban trolley. We will stay again!
- Lori (8/5): - So pleasingly comfortable and charming! Loved the outdoor area. Would have loved to see the shop— not open during our off season/off week stay. Happy for coffee—would love an in- room option for coffee though for early risers. We will come back again for sure!
- Dan (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable, will good back there again
- Barbara (6/5): - Asking exactly what time we would arrive is new. Not being able to go in for check in d/ t Covid is out of date. No breakfast as advertised. Coffee provided but not until 9 o’clock is very inconvenient. No instructions to work tv in room.
- Karin (10/5): - Loved our stay - newly renovated, spotlessly clean, great outdoor sitting area - absolutely delightful! We will be back!
- Catherine (10/5): - The host was very helpful and gave solid recommendations and directions. I had family staying nearby, and they said the next time they'll look into staying at The Pines Motorlodge instead. It was very clean with a fresh vibe. If you're a pillow snob, I suggest bringing your own. My husband had no issues with theirs, but I'm a snob, lol. But that was it. We'll definitely stay there again. Loved it!
- Donald (4/5): - Booked on Expedia. Showed up. Had a dog. Told pets not allowed so could not check in. Asked for a refund and staff (owner maybe) told me nothing could be done and to take it up with Expedia. Expedia told me it was the owner who charged me sending the ball back to him. Called to resolve but no word back. Had insurance on the booking. Still waiting to hear. Owner (I assume) of hotel very rude. Made me wait outside to sign paperwork for registration, which I never signed.
- Kelly (10/5): - I only stayed one night but I will def be staying again if I am in the area. The location is perfect, close to everything. It is a unique little motor lodge with fun decor. Check in/out was easy.
- Shelly (10/5): - Charming property with impeccably clean rooms. Would absolutely stay here again!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Clean, great location with fun, unique tasteful decor. The continental breakfast looked amazing. $200 a night would have been reasonable if some of the amenities were higher quality (sheets were a bit scratchy, towels thin, bar soap provided but no liquid shower gel) A bottled water in the room would have been nice. The room had a funny odor when I first arrived but improved with opening the windows and running the fan. While I appreciated the easily accessible plug by the bed, the bedside lighting was a bit dim for reading in bed.
- Donald T (10/5): - I LOVED this property! Intimate (13 guest rooms), super gay-friendly & hospitable.
- Rita (10/5): - Very pleasant stay! The only negative was that there was no coffee in the mornings!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Liked the motel. Rooms were nice and clean. Management needs to step it up. Was not informed about cleaning rooms or clean towels and where to get them. They need to have coffee and bagels at 7 in the morning for the price they charge for a room.
- John K (10/5): great retro vibe - Great retro vibe and great convenient location to lots of activities and restaurants.
- JaneandVeronica (10/5): - Beautiful place to visit. Oval Beach was great. Cute shops and eateries. Parking is limited so go early.
- Terry (10/5): - It was small and so cute!! So nice and innkeeper was so helpful.
- Allison (8/5): - The proprietor was very accommodating and helpful. Great local recommendations too!
- TimandVickie (10/5): - Easy access and friendly staff. The room was clean and comfortable.
- Deborah (8/5): Michigan get away - Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Bathroom small but ok. Location is great! Overall we enjoyed our stay.
- Ann (8/5): Kitchy - Short vacation. Nice place. Sat on porch and talked to neighbors.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a minor inconvenience with the internet and Steve went above and beyond the call of duty working with the service provider to correct the issue.
They also then offered us a small discount on future visits which was very generous. You don't often know what kind of person you are dealing with until something goes wrong. These folks were great and we'd recommend this place to anyone.
The rooms are great and so is the location.
- Dawn (10/5): Mother daughter getaway! - My daughter and I had a fantastic time the Pines was a great place to stay, location was great, nice cozy clean place and the owner was so helpful. I would stay again!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Adorable, well kept hotel. Happily go back. Beds could use an upgrade, but again, loved it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I had put 3 guests when I did online booking but when checked in had to pay 40 dollars extra for each night. He said it did not come through. It was nice but a little overpriced at215.00 for one night plus tax. It was a motor motel. They had vacancies both nights. Rooms were spotless and property was very well kept.No coffee until 9 in morning.
- Laurie (4/5): Won't be back - Really disappointed overall. Couldn't get a cup of coffee in the evening, was told had to get from the gas station or coffee shop in town. TV didn't work right the whole evening, kept getting a loss of signal from Dish. Waited till 8am for the free continental breakfast but hadn't opened yet and we needed to get back on the road for our 31/2 hour ride back home.
- Susan (8/5): Golf trip - We stayed 2 nights for a golf trip. Location was great. We were told by Hotels.com that breakfast was included but there was none. Clean basic room. Might stay again.
- Kymberly (10/5): - Went out on a whim and wanted to check out part of Michigan we've never been to. This didn't disappoint. The room was spacious and very clean. Definitely updated. Easy check in and out. Plus a gift shop. Great time. We will be back.
