Deborah (8/5): - Lake Barkley is a treasure. Visited often when I was a child, and again as a MSU student. I’m thrilled to hear of the lodge updates that are pending. It’s rustic and reliable and just what we needed to get away for a few days.

Rachel (6/5): Family Trip in the Cottage - The service at the lodge was excellent and the cottage was mostly fine; just old. Very outdated and rather expensive for what it was. Seemed to have some mold issues are the lights in the bedrooms, holes in the walls in the bathrooms, and the small was gross. We wouldn't stay again.
Debbie (8/5): - At first I wasn’t impressed with the cabin but once we “made it our own” it was great! You should take a candle to take care of unpleasant smell, it works. There were a lot of deer in the area, be careful. The outdoor pool was great, it overlooked the lake. Get there early to get an umbrella. Apparently, you can go early, stake out your territory, umbrella and all, put towels on the chairs you want and leave for a few hours and come back whenever you want to.Despite that, It was fun and everyone was friendly, staff was great. Tip heavily. These kids are great!
Johanna (8/5): - We really enjoyed staying at the resort and only wish that we’d been able to take advantage of some of the things on offer - like the pool and ping pong table! Our room in the lodge had a very rustic feel - wood paneled walls and lots of spider webs on the balcony’s railing (seemed to keep the mosquitoes at bay). The bathroom was very clean and bright. The bed was comfortable. The dining room offered a buffet or a menu for the meals we were there for (dinner and then breakfast). We opted for menu items for dinner and then the buffet for breakfast. The prices were amazingly low, and the size of the portions from menu items were amazingly huge. Lots of bacon! An absolute delight for me was to make a coffee in the morning and sit out on the balcony and look at the lake and watch the waterfowl and turtles.
Christina (4/5): - Not as described! Room was not what was reserved and was dirty. There were bugs in the room every morning and night probably due to poor weather stripping. Intermittent internet at best which also affected TV. Room phone only for emergency calls so you could only contact desk with your cell which only worked in specific area of room ( otherwise was in SOS mode). Housekeeping staff was professional. Restaurant buffet was cold and greasy, waitress did not provide menu to our table though a different waitress did provide one to another table not five minutes after we went to buffet. Pool was beautiful though lifeguards took loungers and were generally unprofessionally. Scenery was beautiful. Beach was nice. Marina and marina staff were great.

The TV would not work due to a poor signal, I alerted the front desk and they did send someone to look at it who tried everything and then said it was cable and that they would contract cable to come look at the service. It was never resolved, so no tv service the entire stay. It wouldn’t have been so bad had the tv been a smart tv in which I could’ve connected apps from my phone but it was not.
John (2/5): - We arrived and checked in. I expected a nice clean room for $200 a night. I was very disappointed. The room had a dank moldy smell with layer upon layer of dust in the paneling. The cable was out. At a rate of $200 a night I expected more than a room reminiscent of a 4H summer camp. We went right back to the desk and left. As someone that was born and raised in Kentucky the shape of the lodge is an embarrassment. The one good point was a beautiful view of Lake Barkley. The exterior of building we were in was also dirty and un maintained. Did not appear that any of the walk ways had been swept or in any way kept clear. Will not return. I normally do not review establishments, but as I thought that this would be an outstanding stay at a beautiful setting and was so disappointed I thought I should voice my opinion. I hope this helps get much needed updates to the facility, so that Kentucky citizens can be proud of their state park facilities.

Eric (10/5): - This facility has everything you need for a family get together. Regardless of the weather, there is a lot to do. The beach is quite a distance from the lodge and best to drive. People were wonderful.
SIQI (4/5): - Breakfast is not included! Expensive food, and the offering is not great. Military DFAC quality food, but you still pay a buffet price for it. No WiFi in my room, room 419 at all, they said it was a WiFi blind spot, so no solution at all.
Brian (6/5): - This property really brings you into the camping environment. The view is stunning. There is plenty to do for a weekend. Horseback riding, bison prairie, hiking, fishing, planetarium, sight seeing and more. The room and area around the lodges was very musty. It smelled like you were in a moss ridden forest. They folded the toilet paper but didn’t clean the toilet. The back deck was mosquito infested. Like hundreds swarming around. (Unusable - do not open the back door). Air conditioning would not cool the room down until 3am. TV did not work. Best amenities- lakeside view, proximity to activities. Book if that is your goal. Do not book if you’re aiming for any luxury in your room and board.
Lauren (10/5): - This was one of the most interesting places we've ever stayed. We loved it. It's like a wooden space station in the wilderness. We were there during the off-season, so it was completely empty, and the outdoor pool wasn't open. However, you can tell it accommodates a large number of people and has been in operation for 70ish years. We hope it doesn't lose its charm when it is renovated. We bought some very vintage-looking mugs from the gift shop. We played pool and ping pong in the game room and took advantage of the access guests of the resort have to the athletic center next door, featuring an indoor pool.

Lynn (6/5): Great potential but needs TLC. - The whole property needs updated. We spent our honeymoon here 43 years ago. Not much has changed! The room was clean but very dark with no refrigerator. The restaurant was the high point. Very good food and service.
Casey (8/5): Overall a great experience - Stayed 2 nights with my fiancé. When we arrived, we were surprised to see there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. The beds were extremely comfortable and the house keeping ladies were very nice. Only issue we had was on night two after being out and about all day we came back to the room to find that neither of our cards worked to enter the room. We had to walk all the way back to the front office and the issue was fixed promptly with no hassle. However, we were informed upon arrival that there was an option to use the elevator as there are MANY stairs inside the main building BUT on our way back from the office after getting our room keys replaced we were going to use the elevator because I have severe asthma and couldn’t handle all the steps again, we attempted to go to the elevator just to find there is no buttons and no public access. Yes there is an elevator. But not for the public. It has to be unlocked and turned on by a key. And there is no buttons outside of the doors whatsoever. Maybe they unlock it when a handicap resident checks in, but if that is the case they don’t need to advertise or state that there is an elevator for public use.
john (8/5): - At 78 we had carry our bags down a flight of stairs with no help.We complained next day and were moved.Restaurant only open half the time we were there.After the move the room was fine.

Had to ask for additional chair for balcony. Asked for pet friendly unit we were put downstairs not near and grassy areas. The lodge was not ready for spring/holiday guests. Property needs leaves/debris landscape cleanup. Will probably not return.
Jennifer (10/5): Lake Getaway - Our experience at Lake Barkley resort State Park was excellent. The food was amazing and the great prices were a nice surprise. The rooms were really nice, the bed was comfortable, The view of the lake was amazing. The only negative was that there was a lot of construction going on and there were not signs telling you where you were and how to get to where you needed to go. When we drove up, it was very difficult to find the door to go in because of all the construction and the lack of instruction with signs. I’m sure that will be better when it’s all finished, however, it could be better now and eliminate a lot of confusion to people who have never been there before. But overall, it was an excellent place to visit and stay and we will definitely come back.

zach (6/5): Customer Service Was Great. - The customer service was excellent. The wi fi was slow and I was unable to work. I assumed it was standard. The next morning I overheard that it needed to be rebooted. So it may work better that what I encountered. Food was great. We were there on one of the coldest days of the year, the water in the shower would not get hot. Not even warm. But I believe this would be a wonderful place for a vacation trip, just not great for the type of work that I needed to accomplish.

Pros: > Staff was all pleasant and provided appropriate information, no rude encounters. > View of lake and marina from Lodge Room was beautiful > Room was clean and comfortable Cons: > Only ate in dining room the first night. It was convenient. However, was buffet only and would definitely consider it Southern Cooking and needed some healthier options. As a result, we stuck to the soup and salad bar. Taco Soup was more like a chili, but we definitely enjoyed it. Salad bar was filing. > Some areas were somewhat worn, and could use a little refresh. In some respects almost felt like I was at summer camp ;) > Rooms not terribly soundproof. We heard our neighbors playing guitar and TV all night. Could hear conversations pretty clearly. > Indoor pool is closed on Sundays and that's the only day we had available and had planned on enjoying some time in the pool area. Apparently, steam and sauna are available in the area, but the jacuzzi hasn't been functional for a while. Final Note: If you have mobility issues or allergies to dogs, and are staying in the lodge, ask for a room on the upper floor as stairs are quite steep and have to negotiate them with your luggage. And dogs are allowed on the lower level rooms. We didn't have time to explore the area much, but if you're an outdoor person, definitely seems like there is plenty to do.
Verified traveler (8/5): - It was good, but comfort would have improved with rescreening the door to the balcony, and having a chair by the desk. The insects made the balcony impossible to access or even to allow outside air inside. I didn’t use any of the many amenities other than doing some walking around the complex.
Genevieve (10/5): - For a state park the rooms were better than expected. Mattresses and beds had been updated, restroom was well equipped and clean, and patio had two chairs and a table. All rooms have a lake view which is also nice. One key feature we loved is you can get from either side of rooms to the game room which leads up to the restaurant all while under cover in case it rains which it did our first night there. Food off the menu was excellent but only had that option one day. Buffet was good and varied daily which made it challenging if you didn’t like anything in it as not much else around to eat during the off season. Patios and balconies were all very clean and nice to sit and relax to enjoy the views, visit with family, etc. we will definitely go back for a longer stay to enjoy some water activities.

Melissa (6/5): Good news and bad news - The room was nice but the lodge itself is old and outdated. No housekeeping, I’m glad we only stayed for 2 nights. There are so many stairs, to get into the lodge, dinning room area, everywhere you go you will be taking stairs. Oh, and cobwebs and spiders on the balcony, overall maintenance is needed, dirty and rundown. On the up side, dining room food was good. Staff is great, very friendly. The view is beautiful from the balcony.

The dining room is only open 4 1/2 days a week and there are no refrigerators or microwaves in the room so if you are there on the days when the dining room is closed, too bad.
Jamie (10/5): - This is a very beautiful park and lodge. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The lodge needs a little work which I am sure they are aware of and planning to attend to. Nothing to hinder your stay but to maintain its functionality and beauty it needs attention. We had a great time and will surely return.
Denise (8/5): - The cabin is very dated. I was disappointed that we had no view of the lake. The outside was not in a manner that I felt like ok to use. Chairs rusty and dirty. All kinds of sticks and brush in side yard near picnic tables.
elaine (4/5): - My husband had fallen the night before our registered stay. He is under a doctors care and has stability issues. His injuries prohibited us from making the trip. We were so looking forward to this trip giving us a chance to have an outing. The stay would offer a balcony sitting to have our morning coffee over looking a lake and watching and listening to wild life. The peaceful getaway would have been soul healing. The facility offered a swimming pool that would allow therapeutic exercise for him. We were so disappointed that we could not make the trip. Hopefully we may try again in the future.
Ian (6/5): - The location is great but the property lets itself down. Dinner was low quality no better than a fast food chain. Smokers in nearby rooms spoiled our time even though the hotel is supposed to be smoke free. Water pressure was very low.
Sarah (8/5): - It was soooo quiet here! At first, I was surprised at how it felt like we were camping even though we were in a lodge. The room seemed a little outdated but I think it was more perfect for the setting. If you like being in the woods, in a very quiet place this is for you! I was pleasantly surprised at how updated the fitness building was. The pool was excellent there! Again, there seemed to be very few others here, even though it's spring break. Makes me wonder if it ever is busy.

Gerald (8/5): March 2023 - Very pleasant quiet stay. Wish it wouldn't have rained and I had more time to explore. Very beautiful view from room of lake.
Penney (8/5): - The site was lovely and had many walking paths. We did have dinner on Friday night and it was good, hot, and pleasing after a long day of travel. The room smelled musty yet the bathroom looked to be updated recently and was very nice. Wood paneling needs to be cleaned at least once a year to eliminate the musty smell. We have a cottage in WI and I have the walls washed every spring which prevents the smell. An organic cleaner with essential oils in it will do the trick.
Rhonda (10/5): - We were upgraded to a cabin and it was awesome. We had a small issue with fireplace and they fixed it immediately. It was quiet and so relaxing as it was a slow time at the resort. Will come back again in high season so we can do the beach, etc.
Danny (10/5): Great Place to Stay! - 2nd time staying here. Great park, great hotel. Room was very clean, roomy and nice. View from balcony (and room) of Lake Barkley was wonderful. Definitely stay there again.

Julie (8/5): Great place to stay, but maybe not in winter. - The resort is gorgeous, but we were there during an ice storm and getting back to the highway was difficult and dangerous. The room was beautiful, but even with the heat cranked way up, we were cold and there weren't any extra blankets. And, because it was winter the hotel restaurant was closed except for weekends so that part was no fun.
Ted (10/5): - Not the most updated property, but was extremely clean and is what you would expect for any stay away from home. Right on the water with excellent views of mother nature and all of her landscape. LOTS of wildlife around including many deer.
Verified traveler (10/5): No Indoor Pool per Hotels.com - Very clean even though they are working there way through updating. However, Hotels.com indicates property had an indoor pool which is one of the reasons we picked resort but it only had outdoor pools which where closed because it was winter.
Larry (4/5): - Facility needs updated and painted! Mold around bathtub! Dark and cold! Could not get heat to come on! Very musty!

Lynn (2/5): - The lake view is beautiful. The resort is older so you expect it to be a bit dated. But our room was musty smelling, had no heat and needed a complete deep cleaning. The bathroom had broken floorboard and extremely low ceilings. Which meant the shower head was very low. We asked for an upper level room to get away from the musty smell. But they tried telling us they were full. Interesting since there were only about 20 cars in the lot.
