Guest Reviews
- Siobhan (10/5): - I’ll be back!
- Tannor (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay
- Darrell (10/5): - My first time back in 60 years! Classic Motel with your car right outside your room. Updated and very clean. Friendly owners. Convenient to the Harwiches and the Chathams.
- Paul (10/5): Nice getaway - Very nice staff and helpful!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The rooms were clean, however we were there 4 nights and the only day they did any cleaning or taking out the trash was on sunday when most guest checked out. The rest of the time we had to go to the office to get toilett paper and our trash was not taken out or room cleaned. We were out and about all day each day so there was plenty of time for the room to be checked. I also used the cups foe coffee the first night and we never got new ones. Even when they cleaned on sunday.
- David (8/5): Cape Wedding - Clean, comfortable room. They should replace the hair dryer in room 18 as it only worked on low - no medium or high. Also the electrical outlet in the closet needs to be better secured to the wall/stud. It pulled away from the wall when unplugging the iron. Other than those two minor details the room was quite nice.
- Cassandra (8/5): - This is a charming little inn. It's less than a mile walk to the beach and there are several good restaurants within 2 miles on either side. The grounds are very well kept, and our room was very clean. We would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice with extremely comfortable beds
- Karen (8/5): - Attractive, charming inside decor. Non-contact system seemed to work well. On cloudy days the room was a little dark inside. (Had to clean collected dust off light bulbs to improve lighting sources in main room. Bathroom well-lit.)
- Susan (4/5): - The staff was rather rude and unavailable. The place was empty, and we were the only guests besides two rooms of construction workers. Very expensive with no amenities whatsoever. Can only get ice when the office was open. They left us only 1/2 roll of toilet paper for a two day stay. Not a good value. Inattentive property staff
- Brandon (4/5): - Great location and beautiful grounds, but the rooms need some TLC. Worst bed I've ever slept on. Totally wrecked my back. The TV was really poor quality and the WiFi didn't even work. The towels weren't great either considering the room cost $530 for 2 nights.
That said, the property was convenient for a short weekend but will definitely consider spending a little extra money next time I'm in town to stay at a nicer hotel unless this place makes some upgrades.
- Joette (10/5): Nice stay - Clean room and helpful staff. Easy check in. The pool is very nice. There’s a beach .25 miles away that my husband and I walked to.
- Carolyn (8/5): - (Note: I am a picky guest to host.) The motel is kept up well with some nice updates, such as fresh paint on the walls, newer bedding and lighting, and cool attention to detail in the bathroom amenities (new floor, barn door, and those faucets!). Everything was clean and well cared for, the pool was warm, the outdoor areas pleasant to relax in with morning coffee. The room was spacious with a good-sized mini-fridge, the beds, (though only full size, not queen), were comfortable, and the staff is very helpful and responsive. The only suggestion would be to upgrade the bath towels. Overall excellent value, not fancy but very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!
- Beth (10/5): - We have stayed here for a few days the last two summers when we visit friends in the area, and it's always clean, easy to book, excellent service and communication, and convenient to beaches, dining, shopping, and touring around the Cape.
- James (10/5): - Excellent rooms!
- Judith (8/5): - The rooms were smaller than I thought they would be. The microwave was very old. I would have liked my trash emptied and fresh towels on the second day. The grounds were very pretty and I appreciated a smoking area.
- Liz (8/5): - The room was attractively co-ordinated with fresh looking furniture and soft furnishings.
It was all really comfortable and beautifully clean.
A great little breakfast diner, Capeside Kitchen, and a fantastic seafood restaurant, Brax Landing,
are a couple of minutes drive along the street.
And Harwich Port makes a great base for the rest of Cape Cod.
- Lissa (8/5): - The staff was unbelievably helpful, the property was quaint and immaculate…. It helped make our holiday memorable:)
- Laerte (10/5): - Is old property but the owner keeps in good shape the pool is small but deep inside and area safe for the kids playing I loved the room clean was big enough for us
- Paul (6/5): - The stay was OK until the third night,,,the battery in the smoke alarm started to fail, and we were rudely awakened
every few hours...we should have been paid for the last night!! The pool was very clean. No housekeeping, but we are clean folks...so that didn't matter. There was no ice machine in sight, if in fact they did have one. No tissues in the bathroom was a poor way to save a buck.
- Barbara (10/5): - Everything was great!!
- Lorayne (10/5): - We liked the quaintness of the property the proximity to the water the helpfulness of the staff and the room and bath😉
- Thomas (8/5): - Peaceful, quiet, clean and comfortable.
- Melissa (8/5): - My husband and I stayed a night to attend a wedding. The property was very clean and quiet. Would recommend this property to our friends.
- Daniel (10/5): - We love staying at Handkerchief Shoals Inn. It is so clean, quiet, economical, and conveniently located between our two favorites: Harwichport and Chatham. All rooms have been updated too. It is a little hidden treasure!
- Michael (8/5): - I arrived before check in and they were happy to accommodate. I’m sure it helped that it was off season (the best time to enjoy the Cape) Very nice people. Reasonable rates. Nice and clean. Bathroom is a tad dated, but that goes with the charm of Old Cape Cod.
- Maurice (10/5): - Totally happy staying there! Just the right spot to go fly fishing in that area. Told them I’ll be back in the Spring but it’s going to be easier than that, we still have the Fall run.
- Oscar (10/5): - I like it was great area
- Kerry (10/5): - Loved the free excellent coffee and snacks. Loved the fresh towels exchange. Loved the helpful attitude of the owners. Loved the outside chairs and grill and beautiful grounds. Going back again!
- Christian (8/5): - Very freindly staff
- CHRISTINE (8/5): Mini vacation in Harwich - Great location with close access to beaches, restaurants and shops. Clean, quiet and owners were very accomodating on a slightly delayed checkout and use of the pool.
- Christine (10/5): - We were at a wedding for the weekend which was down the road. I would stay there every time I go. The only thing I would recommend is a shower liner for the shower. The grounds was beautiful. Pool was so warm. Had a place for grilling and sitting area with tables and picnic tables. And parked right in front of our room! Can’t wait to go back!!
- Patricia (10/5): Wonderful stay on Cape Cod - Very nice clean motel, spacious room, newly renovated, clean large pool, hot coffee and snacks in front office. Convenient to both Harwichport and Chatham, set back from the main road so very quiet. Highly recommend!
- Clifford (10/5): Great spot! - This is an older property that the new owners have done a great job updating. The location is perfect for access to both Chatham and Harwichport. It's also under a 5 minute drive to Red River Beach and 10-15 minutes away from the Chatham beaches. The pool area is mid sized but nice and never busy. Overall a great location, nice owners and amazing location that's close to everything couples or families would need.
- joseph (8/5): - Nice place. Quiet and peaceful
- James (4/5): - Internet, air conditioner hair drier all sub standard or did not work
- Kathleen (10/5): - Very pleasant stay! Beautiful pool, set back from the road, clean and nice AC.
- James (10/5): - It was very convenient for us. Very clean and easy check in
- Thomas (8/5): - Comfy Beds, Clean room. Staff pleasant. Good and expected value for the price. We would stay there again.
- Pamela (6/5): Cute Cape Motel - Cute Cape motel. Contact free entry, email gave instructions, but I was traveling and missed the day before email with instructions. I got there a little early, called them, left a voicemail, and they called back quickly. I needed to get into my room after traveling a few hours without a stop, and they came over to open my room. Breakfast is a free cup of coffee or tea and a packaged muffin or pop tart. The parking is for one car only. Pool opens after Memorial Day. Nice outside tables with umbrellas and chairs.
- Susan (10/5): - The rooms were clean and nicely decorated.
- Mariella (10/5): - Very nice, clean, will be back.
- Robert (10/5): - Brief overnight stay, Room clean and nicely decorated. Contactless checkin/checkout. Would stay again!
- Lindsay (2/5): Maybe think twice in winter - Didn’t have heat one night when it was well below freezing outside. When I asked about getting it fixed they didn’t apologize and most definitely didn’t offer a partial refund. Moldy shower as well.
- Vivian (10/5): - The room was very nice and comfortable, even with a beautiful patchwork quilt on the bed.
The owners were very personable and helpful with their suggestions of where to visit and excellent restaurants. We would definitely go back there if we returned to the Cape.
The property is well maintained with areas to enjoy the outdoors.
- Bruce (6/5): Excellent Location - motel quality - If you need a base to visit all around the Cape the location is ideal. The price is 1/2 to 1/3 less than other places and you get the minimum accommodations need to have a base of operations for an enjoyable trip. One room, small table and bathroom with a shower. Parking right in front of your room.
While we were there a girls soccer team came in to stay and were quite loud and the chaperones were outside totally ignoring the site rules. A quick call to the owners did correct the situation.
- Nancy (10/5): - We were in the area for a wedding. The owner let us check in early so we could change before the event . The property was very well kept. The room met are needs. It is a convenient , affordable location to explore this area of the cape
- Diane (8/5): - Super clean. Nice couple running the inn. Due to covid, amenities were at a minimum. The mattress was like concrete. Hard to sleep on.
- Paramjit (10/5): Best place - Beautiful place n best place for family, couples as they have private park n BBQ place too on side side , beach r near by too, no noice , people with good stand , parking outside of room,
- Saundra (8/5): Nice few days on the Cape - quick trip to see family. The Hotel is great. Nice and clean and close to beaches and restaurants. We spent time pool side and ate our lunch at the tables located on site. Very relaxing. My only suggestion is to update the A/C units as they are loud and a bit difficult to use.
- Marjorie (8/5): - Best thing: They give you free cape cod chips and water! Small thing, but appreciated.
Worst thing: the towels & linens could use an upgrade. Bed just ok.
Clean room though, fairly nice place, would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was what I would call minimal. There was a baby roach. More shelves in the bathroom would be nice. If the office area was open and the food store available it would help. It was cold and rainy so we didn't get to use the pool. The room heating was needed and worked well.
- Russell (8/5): Comfort and close to beach. - Comfortable and newly renovated-nice for area and so close to beach!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Place is very clean comfortable bed. Parking right outside our room! Grounds are kept very nice.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to the public beach.
- Ekaterina (10/5): - Very cute room, staff very nice and professional. Room had everything I needed.
- Tracy (10/5): Fabulous hotel! - What a lovely and reasonably-priced hotel! The service couldn't be beat! The room even came with FREE snacks and bottles of water! Imagine that! I highly recommend this hotel!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, efficient communication
Helpful re: check on needs
Just perfect for our needs thus visit
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice, clean, motel.
- Mike (8/5): Inn with a nice sprawling lawn near Harwich - Large no-frills rooms with large sprawling green lawn. A good value for your money.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quaint
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic service - The booking website mixed up our reservation which had the potential to spoil our entire weekend trip and visit to Harwich. Thankfully the Innkeeper was very helpful and found a generous solution and was beyond gracious. We stayed numerous times at the Handkerchief before and the cleanliness and comfort of its rooms and proximity to beautiful beaches, town restaurants and shopping will make us want to come back time and time again.
- Susan (10/5): VERY CLEAN and Comfortable! - The rooms are VERY CLEAN and Comfortable.
Great location right on Route 28.
Owners were very friendly and accommodating.
Nice outdoor swimming pool with comfortable tables, chairs and umbrellas.
Highly recommend. I’ve already booked for next summer.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff was friendly and helpful.
Room was ok, about what I'd expect for the price
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It's a good place to stay and very family-friendly.
- Kaumudi (10/5): Great place! - Everything was just right! Close enough to beach and good restaurants. Enjoyed our stay!
- John C H (10/5): - Older motel but very nice place. Very close to Red River Beach in South Harwich
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Owners were very nice and the room was sparkling clean! Pool lovely as well.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Never go again ever ever ever eve ever ever ever again
- Verified traveler (2/5): Can’t believe it - I was expecting for the rooms to be a bit more comfortable . Upon arriving the room smelled musty . Walking across the floors the floorboards felt weak and echoed as you walked on them . Honestly it looked like the hotels that appear in murder mystery movies . I’m so disappointed I actually paid and left . I didn’t even stay and it was $160 for the night . I went to the Hilton hill that was much better down the street . Very expensive for this type of place . Unbelievable that I walked out 3 min later and still couldn’t get a refund. The lady did ask if I wanted to see another room but I passed on that gesture due to the pictures making this place look different . Very disappointed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Needed a room for a work function on Cape in March. Many properties closed this time of year. Was very happy to find Handkerchief Shoals open and fairly priced. Managers live on the property and we’re very hospitable. Rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. For those visiting Harwich on a budget, don’t think you can do much better than Handkerchief Shoals Inn!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, and nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable. It was exactly what I xpected for the price point.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay - It's a no-frills place, but it's clean, quiet, and the owners were super friendly! The cable tv didn't work in the first room we were assigned, but they quickly moved us to another room without any fuss.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great choice of Cape Cod hotels - Clean, quaint - Cape Cod hotel close to Red River beach. Highly recommend!
- DAVE (10/5): Great for a quick wedding weekend - Quiet clean room. Definitely would recommend to large parties looking to book multiple rooms. Our only complaint would be the bed is definitely low quality. Other than that everything was perfect.
- Katherine (10/5): Good place - Staff excellent, friendly. Helpful. Rooms updated and very clean.
Limited continental breakfast. Bed seemed very comfortable, but then too soft for me. Quiet rooms.
- Jim (10/5): - This property came exactly as advertised. Not a luxury resort, but a nice, clean place in a very convenient location. Bets of all, the owners were extremely friendly and really went out of their way to make our stay nice.
- Maria (10/5): - From booking online through checkin to checkout -extremely pleased.
- R (8/5): - Pleasant experience.
- kathleen (8/5): - Good for a quick overnight stay in the area
- Linda (10/5): - The room was very clean. I was only in it to sleep. The bath towels were small. The continental breakfast was unimpressive. Location was good.
- Alyssa (10/5): - Loved my room. Clean and quiet. Loved the individual entrances. Loved the location. I would definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Perfect for an overnight - I needed a place for 1 night while doing a craft show in town. The room was perfect. Comfortable, very clean, spacious and affordable. Appreciative of the 1 night option. I have already told friends about this place and would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to stay. - Our family was in a Cape Cod Tournament close to the Inn. We found the staff accommodating and pleasant and the room was clean and decorated in a New England Cape decor. Close to everything we needed and great places to visit are just minutes away. Also much quieter setting than some of the other more touristy towns. My only really negative comment was I personally found the mattress a bit hard for my comfort. But I did love King size beds.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a nice room. Very clean and the staff was friendly. Definately recommened
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice staff, spotless room big room
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, clean quiet hotel in convenient location - This hotel met our needs for overflow during a family weekend to the Cape. I was pleased with the cleanliness and quiet of this accommodation. Everything was in working order ...it is early in the season...but a great experience.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Adequate for our needs - People running the hotel were very nice & helpful. The hotel is old, but not run-down. Bed was great!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant stay - We needed a place to stay in January and found this hotel both convenient and pleasant. Good location for what we needed and clean. The bathrooms appear to be recently updated and it was really nice to have the mini fridge and microwave in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - Nice, clean and comfortable. Not luxurious but the location is great.
- Stuart (8/5): - The property was clean, wifi worked well. Fair value for the price.
- Jim (8/5): Quiet Getaway - Property is located in a quiet residential area. The staff is very accommodating and friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good choice - Our second two night stay at this motel. Has the basics for a comfortable nights sleep. Rooms have hot water baseboard heat which served us well over our Thanksgiving holiday visit with family and friends. Room was maintained well and clean.
- Maureen (10/5): Convenient location - The motel is located conveniently on Route 28 between Harwich Port and Chatham. The room was bright and clean as were the grounds. The only thing missing was the continental breakfast. We were told it is only served in the summer season and we were there in November. We found plenty of places to eat and shop.
- Susan (10/5): A great place to stay in Harwich, Ma - Very pleasant owners. Very clean rooms. Definitely stay here again
- niki (10/5): - A nice quiet hotel which I'm sure is busy busy during the height of the season--we were close to everything we wanted to be close to. The owners are very nice and we shared our lives. I do family history, were on vacation and some of the best scenery around! Add an ocean and there you have it!
- Jessica (8/5): - The room was nice and very clean. I thought there was supposed to be free breakfast but we never saw any.
- mike (10/5): Quaint and welcoming - Quaint welcoming and well maintained. Short drive to s. Chatham beach.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Motel style hotel. - My wife and I satyed one night. Very convienient clean and Cape Cod style.
We will come back!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room was dreary, toilet and shower were dirty,
