Guest Reviews
- Lee (4/5): - Shower wouldn't drain. One lamp in room. Would be charged extra if got any make up or dirt on towels. No kleenex. No cups or ice bucket or ice. No extra anything. Too expensive for no amenities.
- Kristen (4/5): Save your money! - I understand this is a 2 star rated motel, however when I hear daily housekeeping I expect someone to come in and at leadt freshed up the beds and leave fresh towels. No one ever made our beds, emptied our trashed, gave clean towels or much less cleaned the room! We even put bags of garage outside the door for them to pick up and it was there for 3 days!
The beds have no mattress pads on them which is very gross. They have one thin sheet over a bare mattress that isn't fitted so doesn't stay on the mattress. One of the blankets had a black curly hair one it, where its from is not something I wanted to think of!
The pool little slide had no water running down it so looked out of service.
The outside lights were not turned out until way past dark so a bit creepy if your in the back building.
Lucky for us no one else was here during our stay, motel was mostly empty, however one hight there must have been a family in the middle of the night making a ton of noise. The walls are paper thing and you can feel the bed move when someone runs around, so no sleep that night. Spend the extra money you will thank me!
- James (4/5): Disappointed - We booked a room at the Surfside Motel through Hotels.com, & arrived at Surfside approximately two to three hours later. We checked in with no problem, & went to our room. We dropped off our bag, etc & preceded to go have a cocktail in town and grab a bite to eat. At 7:30ish, the motel calls to ask when we were checking in which my husband replied that we already had checked in, paid, & had our key etc. The young lady said ok, & hung up. Awhile later I checked our bank account to do some banking to find out that the property charged for the room again. I called them back to ask why, & they argued that they didn’t. When we arrived back at the motel, I showed them my back account for them then to admit that they accidentally did charge us twice but were refunding the charge. However they wouldn’t give us a receipt. They apologized as I expressed my unhappiness. We then returned to the room for the evening to relax & enjoy the jacuzzi. In the morning, we had No tissues, only the bare minimum for towels etc but we’re ok with that since we weren’t going to be hanging out in the room much. The shrubs etc around the property were dead, & trash in the parking lot. The end of our stay we noticed a serious no-no of no working smoke alarm in our room. You could tell it had been ripped from the wall. Talked to my bank later to find out that they did refund the money but also tried 3 more times to take money out for our stay. Let’s just say I wouldn’t stay there again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Mold in the hotel room, toilet were leaking, air conditioner didn’t work in the bedroom it was bad we left 5 hours earlier I will never stay there again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - They gave our reserved room to someone else before we got there. THheybgave us another room at a discounted rate but it was not what we were expecting. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. Linens and pillows were worn out . Sink had old food in the strainer. Spiders noted in the bathroom. Only one channel worked on the bedroom tv. Could not turn on or off the bedroom light without unplugging it. Room had a very musty smell.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The family room was great with the additional sleeping spaces
- Verified traveler (4/5): - staff was accommodating but way over priced for amount of anemities offered what motel does not offer coffee in rooms is one that not on list. guest noisy both nighrs we stayed only way I would return is at a much discounted price
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Had a good stay--pool could have been cleaner !! We were there for a wedding . Price was ok for a Friday and Saturday
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Its the bare nessities. Bed. Ac. Bathroom. T.V. Good distance from the busy tourists but not toor far from waterparks
- Daniel (6/5): Poor Bathroom maintenance - What I disliked the most was that there was hardly any hot water to shower with! It was warm at most, but then goes ice cold. Plus the shower curtains were algae filled and grossed us out. The bathtub did not drain either.
- Ken (2/5): Never again! - Free WiFi didn’t work. No ice. Low shower head. Linens and bed covering were stained; torn shower curtain. Over-priced for what we received
- Unhappy (2/5): - 7 year old manager was unique. Waterfall down the wall during rain storm was unique. Getting heat stroke while using the bathroom was unique. Over all the place was bad. The bathroom light didn't work and the 7 year old manager insisted that the heat lamp was the light even though it kicked out extreme heat. Floor next to bed was soaked due to a leak in the wall. The chain on the door for added security came right off the wall. The toilet seat was extremely worn. There was black mold behind the toilet. The air conditiiner had to be kicked by the 7 year old managers older sister to get it to work. No basic maintenance around the place, weeds growing everywhere, paint chipping off of doors. A lot wrong with this place. Room smelt very musty.
- Freddy (2/5): Not worth the stay. - It was outdated and not very clean read reviews about bedbugs and was worried about it I was running late so I couldn’t find anything else and since my room was payed I gave it a shot as soon as I got there I checked my bed and pillows and didn’t really see anything throughout the whole night I checked and didn’t see nothing on the bed I slept it but then the second day I checked the second bed and noticed in the pillow casing a little bed bug crawling and it was then I decided to leave I asked for a refund and the owner said he couldn’t I said ok and just left to another hotel I wasn’t going to argue with him because my cleanliness and health was more important than some little bit of cash so I didn’t want take chances bringing any bug beds back to my house overall I wouldn’t recommend to stay there with that being said.
- Visitor (6/5): - There was used dirty soap in the shower. Difficult to find someone to check in. Office was closed and there was a note on the door to call a number to check in but it was not answered when calling. Check in took a very long time
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Property was not bad just felt like it was very over priced
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Light in bathroom (room 23) did not work and no remote for main TV,
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property looked Beautiful. The room was ok. They list as a 2 bedroom but it has only one bedroom. The other is the living room area with a bed and sofa sleeper in it. There's no phone in the room to reach the front desk. No one to service the rooms when needed. You have to return your used towels in order to receive fresh clean ones everyday and take the m to the front desk. This needs to be changed.
- Phillip (10/5): Nice place to stay - We got to the motel pretty late. The man who checked us in was still friendly and efficient. The room was clean, the bed, sheets and pillows were all pretty comfortable. We would definitely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location was nice. It was near stores and restaurants.
The service/staff was unorganized though.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Over priced for a motel. The room was average should have been reserved for $59.
- Ilvin (2/5): Never again - My car got messed up by fireworks in the parking lot and the hotel let you them do it!! I had to call police about the matter and management didn’t care and they didn’t have half the things they say they do
- Private (4/5): - Check in was fine. Room was poorly cleaned. There were men’s draws behind the fridge, cookies under the bed, we also had no microwave. We had to travel our dirty towels around the hotel because they wouldn’t come get them. Pool was dirty. No bags or toilet paper provided. For a motel it was okay, I guess.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Carpeting was old with some stains. Blanket on bed had a stain when I pulled bedspread back. Sheets were old with small holes.
- DellsVisitor (8/5): - Very Nice Family Owned Motel, and the struggles they have to keep up the place are evident, however satisfactory and comfortable, Surprisingly quiet for what was a full hotel with many children. Fresh coffee in the office was good WI-FI ok, Television was lacking the ability to use HDMI, (Generic Remotes Don't change source on these lower end Models).
- Verified traveler (8/5): - it was very nice and comfortable for the 3 days that we was there
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Overpriced. Smelled extremely musty. Dirty. Bathroom light didn't work.
- Anthony (8/5): A quiet celebration for two - Our stay was good, it was our 22 year wedding anniversary, just got away for a few days from our busy life.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent Motel - The location of the motel was not bad but the place itself needs a bit of updating. One major thing that I did not like about my stay was that there was a blood stain on my sheet. Also, they have a sign in the bathroom about charging you if they find any makeup stains on their towels but the towels themselves aren’t the cleanest. One of the towels had grey stains all over it. On the positive side, management is nice and we had a good experience checking in and out.
- Sarah (6/5): - Room seemed clean but had a strong musty smell. We were out of the room most of the time except to sleep so we didn’t go to or even look at the pool. We stayed in the same room (family suite)at Surfside 2 years ago and it has deteriorated since then. It is in need of upkeep/updating so unfortunately this will be our last visit to Surfside.
- stacy (4/5): Not worth the price - Room was outdated, relatively clean. Smelled of old cigarette smoke. My daughter left her tablet in the drawer next to the bed, and when I called the next day, they said it wasn't there. So they stole it. Definitely won't return and probably need to call the police now. The pool was closed for cleaning on Sunday, waterside didn't work and it was green and dirty.
- Lisa (8/5): Comfortable bed, zero amenities - The bed was comfortable, the room was clean. The were no amenities. No coffee pot, microwave, alarm clock, hair dryer, not even kleenix
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Have you seen this place. Iit was a very bad kep up hotel for drugs & prostitution
Nothing like the room that was posted
I am asking for my money back as we left and didn’t stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent room and such a great view. Good customer service and great check in.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff was very friendly and helpful. Pool was very dirty.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was very helpful and friendly. A down to earth home feeling from everyone
- Joe (8/5): Good deal in the Dells - Nice beds! Clean rooms nice people. Good Motel for the price.
- Smith (2/5): - Put me in the wrong room. The owners kids did more than he did. I had to turn in towels in order to get towels. We had a 20 inch box tv amd a couple rooms had flat screens. The curtains did open or close so we had to tie it in a not to get light in. Only one light fixture in the room which didnt work. At first didnt have any hot water, it took 10 mins to get hot. The bathroom looked better then the room hands down. The owner stated he made coffee when he woke up and decided to do things. He was rude and i will never never ever stay here again.
- Lindsay (10/5): Perfect 2bed family suite - I was worried that with it being a motel it wouldnt be anything special! But to my surprised it was nice we had the 2bed family suite and it was perfect! Only thing id like to see added is a microwave there is a fridge! I my family will definitely being staying here from now on durning our trips to the dells she you later this summer
- Nikia (10/5): - The room was very clean and comfortable at an affordable price
- Verified traveler (8/5): Management very nice and accommodating. - We stayed after a long drive from Texas. The room was comfortable and clean. Our TV wasn't working, the management sent someone to look at it immediately, and when it couldn't be fixed, they moved us to another room. Management was extremely nice and accommodating.
- Andrew (6/5): Andy’s picks - The room had no phone and no dead bolt on door. They could not find my reservation on their computer. People smoking outside were loud after 11:00pm. No coffee maker in room.
- Gary (6/5): Surfside, end of season. - Very few rooms rented, had to call a phone to get someone to check us in.
- Joni (2/5): Angry - I didn't even stay. Pulled up at 4:15pm to check in and there was a note on the front door that said, " be back at 5." I had been going all day and didn't want to wait for a room. There were about 15 "unsavory" characters swearing and carrying on outside. I left fast, and I booked another room.
- Maria (6/5): Mix feelings - Requested a crib in advanced; none
Office most of the time; closed
The guests upstairs to noisy at two a clock in the morning; no one picked up the office phone
The main information begin the door is outdated (2005)
- Verified traveler (4/5): Good enough for overnight - Carpeting dirty and nor vacuumed. Decor a bit worn.
- Kristine (8/5): Comfortable, clean motel - My son and I stayed here 4 nights; wanted an inexpensive room as we were gone all day playing in the Dells. Pool was nice, room was clean and comfortable. Only gripe would be that management is never around. Office is locked when stated "open". Had to drive into town for coffee each morning. If you aren't going to be around, at least provide a coffee maker in the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Can't beat the price - Friendly staff! They lent us a cork screw and accommodated our needs. Reasonable price during peak season!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Two days in Wisconsin Dells - Pros: Close to Wisconsin dells fun area. Clean rooms and quiet.
Cons: When I checked in I had to look for the hotel staff because did cannot see anyone on site. He was very nice when he finally arrived but it took at least 15 minutes for him to show up. The motel appeared to be very scary, people that are checked in on the main building did not look good if you know what I mean. I have to admit I almost backed out until I saw the actual room that is situated at the back of the main building and so then I felt a little comfortable. It ended up a quiet and peaceful stay.
Overall: Maybe I might stay again but would not be my first choice.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not what was advertised - I felt misled by the photos & description here on Expedia and on the hotel website. The room was basically as described and did seem clean, but the overall hotel did not fit my expectations. Upon arriving there were two separate groups of men out in front of rooms working on cars. This immediately gave us the impression that this was the kind of hotel where people quite possibly live rather than just vacation...Also the pool was right in front of the rooms where this was happening and was right on the main busy street in town. These circumstances left me feeling unsafe with my children here and we canceled the room. I hated to do it because we had been driving for over 5 hours when we arrived and were tired and the kids just wanted to swim...Also because we were past the check-in time so they made us pay for one night. But my gut feeling was that I could not have my kids stay there so I dealt with the financial hit, found another place to stay that night, and decided to cut our stay in the Dells short one night to make up the cost difference. I was very disappointed in this experience overall and won't risk booking little mom & pop places like this through Expedia in the future. I found several Google reviews after all of this that definitely would've swayed my decision making process, so going forward I will rely on that, and other booking sites, as a source of info on these types of places instead of Expedia.
- kathleen (6/5): So-so-Stay - This motel was fine for our short stay in Wisconsin Dells and for the price. The room was clean and had a microwave and fridge, which was important to us. One section of the motel is 2-story and there were no elevators, rather, outside stairs. This is relevant to my needs because I can't walk far or up and down steps. They did have a room available on the 1st floor and because the motel rooms have outside doors, it was perfect for me. We parked right outside the door.
We did have issue with the light in the bathroom which hummed VERY loudly and produced only a little bit of light. We discovered there was no phone in the room. Its a good thing most people have cell phones. On the heater/air conditioner the knob for the fan speed was broken off, making it impossible to change the speed, unless one had a pair of pliers to turn the stem with.
