- kathyhN7886OU (10/5): Wonderful!!! - We stayed at Mariposa from March 27 through April 3. Fabulous! Loved the resort and the staff as well as the restaurant. We like smaller hotels that are more intimate and where you are treated like a member of the family rather than a guest number. The staff made the trip! Jason, Priscilla, Shefanie, Emma, Gladys, Marlon, George. Everyone was wonderful. If I left someone out I apologize! I highly recommend this hotel! - K and B Smith
- LABrit (10/5): Five star everything! - Our family of 4 had a wonderful time at the Mariposa Beach Resort. The place is stunning, the staff so friendly and helpful and the on site restaurant was fantastic. The hotel is just a short bike ride from the center of Placencia. The hotel has decent bikes that they can loan you to make the journey into town. The resort was the perfect size for us. Large enough to have the amenities we wanted, but small enough to feel intimate and personal. Whether we were hanging at the pool playing games (they have a well stocked selection at the bar), or hanging on our treehouse balcony, we enjoyed every moment of our trip. You could not ask for a more attentive and friendly staff.
- 67Bullet (8/5): Great place we hope to visit again - This is a very nice resort, more of a hotel but that seems to be what the area consists of. I am happy with that as it was a very quiet relaxing place. The help is always ready to help you and they will give you rides to wherever you need to go. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. The beach area is like the rest of Belize and really struggling with the sargassum, they do there best to keep it clean. The biggest complaint we have would be the beach and pool chairs are outdated, very uncomfortable and need to be updated. The drink prices seemed to be a little higher than other places we visited in the area but wasn't a deal breaker. We would definitely go back again and hope to soon.

George showed us around and up to our room which overlooked the pool and the ocean. Beautiful view. Wonderful time. It's about 1 mile to the village which was great.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that made us feel like family. With the resort's serene atmosphere and lush grounds, we couldn't help but feel a sense of tranquility wash over us. The resort's dining options featured the rich flavors of Belizean cuisine and fresh seafood caught that very day. Our room was very beautiful and exceptionally clean.
- K6959ILmaryc (10/5): A little piece of sunny, sandy heaven! - Our three nights at the Mariposa Belize Beach Resort were a little piece of heaven! The treehouse rooms were charming, comfortable, and clean. We loved being able to launch our kayaks and SUPs straight from the beach, and then come back to relax (with a drink!) either on the beach or poolside. Food at at the restaurant was delicious and varied, and when we wanted to try something different, it was easy to head into Placencia to sample its offerings. All the staff were helpful and hospitable. We visited a dozen places in Belize, and this is at the top of my list for a return visit!
- Sightsee741033 (10/5): First time at Mariposa - We booked a two night stay at the Mariposa so we could enjoy the beach and pool. Our room was on the ground floor near the pool. We had a large varanda where we took our meals. The room was large, shower and bathroom clean and large. there was a coffee machine and stocked mini fridge with beer and water.. We took all our meals from the Breezeway restaurant. We had spent a month in the Village so this was wind down to our return trip home. Our grandkids loved the pool and running on the beach. The staff at the restaurant were wonderful and attentive. Special shout out to George, Gladys, Emma and Kallie (sorry if i mucked up the spelling). Looking forward to rturn visit next year.

The staff were helpful and friendly, the food was excellent and the accommodations were fantastic. - 816susig (10/5): Paradise! Fabulous food, terrific views of the Caribbean, lots to do including swimming, biking and kayaking! - Mariposa Belize Beach Resort was definitely a paradise! What beautiful views of the Caribbean while dining outdoors at this beach front property. The treehouse cabin offered the perfect atmosphere for celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. It was private, quiet, beautiful and clean. All hotel and restaurant personnel were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and we didn't want to eat anywhere else! Plus, we loved being able to use the bikes to explore Placencia Village and we very much enjoyed having kayaks to use as well! Hard to beat this stay!
- Traveler544824 (10/5): Amazing, relaxing and memorable. - Mariposa's location for us was not a problem because we rented a car, though Mariposa has a shuttle so we were able to use it to go to a tour, to the town of Placencia, an ATM or for an ice cream. There is treehouse rooms to rent and that is one thing I regret not doing. We stayed in room #17. It was fine for us, it is big, clean and the bed was great, which is important to me. We were traveling from a resort near San Ignacio and we were well cared for at this resort, so we were wondering if it would be the same way at Mariposa. It was. The staff really makes Maripisa special. They are all amazing. I do want to do a shout out to Marlon. He made our trip a 10/10. He is helpful, patient and very personable. We will never forget him. Thank you to Mariposa for making our trip to Belize a memorable one.
- LWT14 (10/5): Life was a beach for a week - It is easy to see why this resort connects with travelers looking for respite, beauty, and a cultural experience to bring home. The staff go out of their way to make sure that needs are met and wants are fulfilled. It is an easy place to sit on the beach, go out on a kayak, watch the seabirds, and see your feet on the sandy bottom while looking through the clear water of the Caribbean Sea. I can’t say enough about the warmth from not only the sun but from each person who made our trip special. The food is amazingly delicious, concocted with local ingredients and pride. It is possible to stay at the resort without going anywhere else because everything that one might want is within reach. However, it is also easy to ride a bike or catch a ride into Placencia to experience the local businesses, the fish market, grocery stores or enjoy the local art. Go! You won’t regret it.

- DeLuxKen (10/5): I hope I have the chance to return! - We traveled to Belize earlier this month, and this was our last stop on our two-week vacation. It was the perfect spot to wrap up a wonderful trip! The setting is beautiful. (The pictures don't lie!) The staff were friendly, and the room was perfect! (We were in one of the garden treehouses.) The only hard part was having to leave after two nights to head back to winter weather in the United States.

- DrewN2468 (10/5): A must for a stay in Placencia. - A most beautiful boutique hotel with most of their accommodations being these little raised cabins with amazing decor, hamac, and great amenities. Complimentary bikes and paddle boards were always available so we could go into town (3km ride). Food was excellent and staff friendly and helpful. Not a bad thing to say. I would go back and stay a week there.

The rooms are super clean, air conditioned, and have nice amenities such as local coffee, comfy beds, and lots of towels! We expected to see bugs in the tropics, but not here! Never saw any insects on the patio or room areas, and they groom the beach to keep sand fly's at bay. The staff is AWESOME! George at the front desk made sure our room was exactly what we wanted. He took care of our every need!! The housekeeping staff did laundry for us at a very reasonable price, and the restaurant staff was so friendly. Some callouts to wonderful staff we remember names of... marlin, Emma, Gladys, Jose, ?Cali.... Food at the restaurant was great, and the beach is not huge but really cute with kayaking available! We came back for another stay after our sail trip! Thanks for such a wonderful stay!!
- ldufford (10/5): Family getaway - This resort was well worth the drive from Belize City. It was quaint, absolutely beautiful, and the grounds were well cared for and rooms were immaculate. Additionally, every staff member went out of their way to make our stay special. Can’t thank everyone here from the cleaning crews to the restaurant staff, to the managers etc for all their kindness and attentiveness. We would come back in a heartbeat.

- billedmonds1 (10/5): Great Place to Stay in Placencia! - My wife and I just returned from a 6 day stay in Tree House No. 1. Truly a perfect stay for us. JoEl, Gladys, Shefanie, Marlin, Priscilla all did were wonderful, attentive to our needs. They were patient with our many questions regarding the area and country, pointing us in the right direction with great information to help us during our travels away from the resort. The resort is very well maintained and cared for and service was top notch. We are already planning for a return trip in February.
- emo2026 (10/5): So much to do as Mariposa! - We had a fantastic time at the Mariposa. The sea view was beautiful and access to the lovely beach was immediate. We used their standup board and kayak to explore the waters. And when we were eating at the hotel restaurant, walked the beach to other nearby eateries. We used their fun cruiser bikes a couple of times for trips into town. I loved have access to all that equipment. Also did yoga on the mat supplied while watching the water lap upon the shore. So peaceful and restorative. George was terrific and found a snorkel trip for me to Silk Cayes. Our room was beautiful , comfortable and had everything we needed.
- thirtydaysonly (10/5): Excellent little beach getaway - We greatly enjoyed our stay here - it's a beautiful place right on the beach, couldn't imagine it being more perfect for a beach getaway. The rooms were pleasant and comfortable, and the staff were all easy to communicate with. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Placencia by car, and the resort provides bikes free of charge. they also provided us with paddle boards and kayaks. Would definitely stay here again.

In particular, Steve, one of the servers and resort staff, went above and beyond. He wasn’t just friendly — he genuinely looked out for me, pointed me to the right spots, helped me avoid issues with currency exchange, and made me feel like part of the family. That meant more to me than I can say. Steve works extremely hard but makes it look effortless. Because of him — and the rest of the team — I’ve been so pleased with my stay that I’m hoping to extend it by an extra day if possible. It’s not just the location, the beautiful pool, or the beach right outside your door — it’s the people who make this place special. The entire staff work hard, and I want anyone who is thinking about going to Placencia to atleast spend a couple of days here-you wont regret it!!!!! Rooms are clean, and A plus level. Great Wifi and AC! The cost is very competitive, and you will leave feeling like you got every penny worth.

We found it to be a great choice over some of the nicer, comparable options like Turtle Inn, since Mariposa has more of a boutique vibe, and we felt offered a better value overall. We booked one of the tree house suites so we could all be together and it worked perfectly. The space was clean, comfortable, and felt special. The resort atmosphere was relaxed and very family friendly, and the staff treated us with genuine care from start to finish. The biggest surprise was the food. We honestly did not expect much, but every meal was excellent. Fresh ingredients, great flavors, and consistently well prepared. We ended up eating on-site far more than we planned because it was that good. The location is peaceful, the grounds are beautiful, and everything is well maintained. Mariposa exceeded our expectations, and we will absolutely return. Highly recommend for families and anyone looking for a warm and welcoming getaway.

Gladys and team were up at the crack of dawn this morning to make sure we had breakfast to go and coffee. And our bed was superb!!

Great beachside location - My husband and I have been to Placencia many times but this was our first stay at the Mariposa. We found it to be a beautiful resort! The location is stunning, only steps from the beach. Our room was very clean and comfortable and had French doors opening directly to the pool/lounge area and the beach beyond. We had booked for 3 nights but needed an additional 2 nights, which the staff readily accommodated. Speaking of staff, from George the manager to Gladdis, Marlon, Joell and others, all were very professional and extremely friendly. They all went out of their way to make our trip enjoyable. We had several meals at the Breezeway Restaurant and they were all very good. Highly recommend staying at this resort!

- MikeMcG2015 (10/5): A comfortable, personal and quaint “inn” with all the benefits of a large resort - Loved it! The staff is very attentive at this smallish, boutique-style inn. We stayed in a “treehouse” elevated cabin, and it was perfect. The cabins are dry comfortable and modern, but they retain the surfer shack feeling of Placentia. The main building, less than 100 years away, houses the pool, beach, bar and restaurant. It was never too crowded when we were there, and the facilities are great. We ate most meals there, and we used the resort’s complimentary bikes, stand up paddle boards and sea kayaks. It is a quaint, conveniently located and very personal-feeling inn with all the resources you’d expect from a large resort. We loved the place.

Gladis was very welcoming at the reception, Donny was amazing at the restaurant and all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The bungalow was perfect for our family of 4, since they have bunk beds. The restaurant was good with a nice view of the ocean. They have nice swings, volleyball court, paddle boards and bicycles which is perfect to go in town. It’s less than 5 minutes drive from Placencia airport. The only thing is the ocean has so much seaweeds that it wasn’t nice to go in the water. Which is fine since we didn’t stay at this hotel for the ocean but just be aware that this strip of the island gets a lot of seaweeds…

We stayed in one of the ocean view rooms downstairs, and just had to step outside to enjoy the pool, beach and restaurant, with our own private table on the terrace in front of our room. The meals were great, and we also enjoyed the drinks served during their daily happy hour. The staff - Gladis, Marlon, Kimberly and Moses took great care of us and made us feel at home. They truly went above and beyond.... they even set up a romantic dinner for us right on the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and highly recommend this beautiful resort - would love to go back some day!!

This was our family’s first trip to Belize and I can’t imagine having stayed anywhere else. The location is quiet, magically manicured each day, and directly on the Caribbean Sea. The family got to fish, paddle board, kayak, swim and play corn hole whenever we wanted. The Breezeway restaurant was exceptional and we ate almost every meal by the beach. The ceviche is the best I’ve ever had. And their basil cucumber gin fizz is my new favorite drink! Thank you to the chefs for cooking up the fish we caught so perfectly. Every server, grounds staff, housekeeper and manager was a delight and it was a pleasure to meet all of them. We took a golf cart ride into Placencia almost each day and planned 2 big excursions on the other days, which was the perfect amount of activity for us. We recommend Mariposa 100% and look forward to a return stay in the future. We want to thank everyone there for making great suggestions and for sharing their love of the resort and of Belize! The ocean front room was lovely and comfortable. The pool was heavenly. We swam and kayaked in the ocean, and it was fun to ride bikes to town and explore Placencia. The staff is what really made our stay special though. Everyone was welcoming and accommodating but Ricky, Moises & Beverly were especially so. The Breezeway Restaurant is incredible too! All meals were delicious, but the red wine reduced flank steak, and the Mayan chocolate cake were to die for. We really hope to get back there again soon, this time with our kids and grandkids.
- 772margod (10/5): Loved it! - My sister and I had an amazing stay with Mariposa. The treehouse room was great for our needs, and just a quick walk to the restaurant, pool, and beach! We hardly left the resort since we felt like they had everything we needed -- good food & drinks, beautiful beach access, helpful staff, and comfortable accommodations. They also helped us to schedule some local tours (we can recommend snorkeling at Laughing Bird Caye and the Monkey River Tour!) and the access to bikes let us explore the town on our own time. We also enjoyed the Tropic Air domestic flight to Placencia that Mariposa organized for us- it gave us great views of the coastline and was a fun experience. If you're looking for a beautiful, relaxing stay in Belize, Mariposa is a wonderful choice. I would definitely return.

From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for a treat. The journey to the resort was an adventure in itself, with a scenic puddle jumper flight to Placencia's tiny airport. George, the resort's friendly staff member, greeted us at the airport and whisked us away to the resort. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with refreshing, scented towels and a signature cocktail (they have plenty to choose from!). Our bags were already being taken to our stunning treehouse, which offered the perfect blend of privacy, comfort, and luxury. The treehouse was immaculate, with a comfortable bed, plush pillows, and a stocked mini-fridge with refreshments and beer. - virginiacM7294OQ (10/5): A beautiful, quiet resort surrounded by nature - I visited the Mariposa beach resort in late February, the staff picked me up from hopper free of charge, I was greeted with a cocktail and a cold towel and my bag carried over to the cabin like treehouse in the jungle esque back area. The beds were comfortable, treehouses were pretty and area is very quiet and relaxing. 1 minute walk and you get to the beachfront area where I could sip my coffee in the morning at the restaurant and use the free paddle board for a serene morning spotted a few animals like manatees, jellyfish and pelicans diving! The town is also just a few minutes down the road. A special experience as this place is not overdeveloped or overrun with tourism which I love! Side note the hopper plane to placencia has absolutely stunning views!

I know most visitors fly in on a small commuter plane, but I do recommend renting a Budget rental car and taking the ~3 hour drive from the Belize airport through the diverse socio-economic reality of modern-day Belize.
- Familyof4_2Boys2014 (10/5): Service Unparallelled - Why Stay Anywhere Else - Where to start. Travelled with our two boys (17, 19) and stayed in Treehouse 2. Room was set back down a pleasant walk through the garden. Grounds were impeccably clean and raked. Not sure when it was done but was always in top shape. Usually a lizard or two to say high but not big enough to carry anyone away. Room - Room was clean and fresh. There is a lot of space for four of us with a king bed and bunks large enough for the boys. A/C blasted to any low temp we needed and air purifier kept it fresh. Bathroom was spotless with ample closet and drawer storage to unpack all four of us. Fridge was cold and held lots of water. TV stopped working and was replaced next day with a brand new one. Service - Hotel staff got to know our names and were pleasant and chatty. We got to know quite a few of them by name. A wonderful and thoughtful group - sincere and authentic. George helped us out with ideas over the phone before we even left Canada. Checkin was smooth and staff helped carry bags to rooms. Someone was always offering to help or ask how they could help. Always a towel even when the shelf was bare - just had to ask. Bar & Drinks - Again service was great. Alsways someone to make a drink and deliver to the pool or the beach. Drinks were ice cold and always fun - even when we asked for the staff to decide what to make. Beach & Pool - Pool was clean and crystal clear. Would have liked it open later but understand as dinner was served poolside and didn’t want to intrude on others' evening. The beach was cleaned of seaweed daily. Even at the end of the day, it was back, but we still swam in the ocean. It’s a reality of this part of the coast. There isn’t any snorkelling from the beach. The sea floor is sandy with few rocks but not very clear and only sea grass so not much to see anyway. Assistance - After hours, if you need assistance, you have to go to the restarting or bar, but everyone is willing to help or find help. Helped look after our 17 Year old when he got ill from eating at a place in town. Shout out to Donny and Carlos. They took us to the Polyclinic and helped get the help we needed—every day after that, multiple staff checked in to see how he was doing. Entertainment - We enjoyed sitting and reading on the beach, playing in the swells and watching the pelican fish all day. They were quite entertaining Transfers - seamless pickup and drop at the airport. We called in January and George booked our flights from Belize City for us. Safety - We always felt safe and free to walk the grounds at any hour. Areas are well lit but not intrusive to ruin the atmosphere. Overall - A forever memory. If we have the opportunity to return to Placencia, we will stay here. I want to list each staff member who helped make our trip so amazing but I don’t want to forget anyone. By far the best food we have had a resort. We travel a lot to Mexico and stay at the bigger resorts. This place had the BEST FOOD! The drinks were amazing. It is a nice quiet atmosphere. We did Kayaking and snorkeling. Also did our first scuba diving trip with Captain Jak's and George made this so easy. Our room was so beautiful. We had a top floor oceanfront room. We also peaked at some of the treehouses and they looked great too!

Our room was on second level and had a beautiful outdoor patio/balcony with comfortable seating options. The patio overlooked both the pool and beach area...the view was beautiful. The bed and furnishings more than met our needs and other than lower water pressure then we Americans are used to, was perfect! Staff was nonintrusive and extremely attentive, we felt like family! Gladis, the concierge was outstanding and made us comfortable from the "get-go!" We ate breakfast at the resort every AM and had several dinners as well, food was fresh and well prepared. The location was perfect, only a short drive to the local village of Placencia with plenty of restaurant/bar options! We will definitely go back!!

We waited over an hour and the watermelon salad was pretty much just watermelon with maybe a tablespoon of feta and 2 small tomatoes on it. The prices were way too high ! Breakfast, however was good. The staff are friendly and helpful but it takes a long time to get a drink. They also don’t give you complimentary bottle water and the mini fridge is super expensive. Over all the resort is over priced in our opinion.

- EncinitasTravellers (10/5): Relaxing tree houses at the beach in Placencia! - Beautiful resort with tree house rooms which makes the experience feel very secluded and relaxing. The table on the tree house balcony was great for working while enjoying the serenity of the trees and beach. Staff were very helpful and kind. The bicycles are a great way to explore the peninsula. Placencia has a more laid back vibe for those not wanting the tourist hub of San Pedro.

Everyone was so attentive and friendly, got to know us by name and knew what we were drinking each day :) Gladys at the front desk was super helpful with planning excursions. We had a couple of appetizers and breakfast- food was good nothing super great but good. If you are doing an excursion, be sure to order your breakfast the night before so you can eat it before you leave. They had bikes to borrow which was perfect for the 15-minute bike ride into "downtown". We didn't need to rent a golf cart. The rooms were clean and the beds were super comfortable.
- TPicco (8/5): Mariposa - Very well maintained property and beach. Every morning the staff is making sure the beach and surrounding area is cleaned up for guests. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant has been very good. We took the bikes on a couple rides, one i to town and one ride to Hobb's brewery. Riding bikes was a lot of fun. We also had a chance to use the SUP and sea kayaks. It was rather rainy during out stay so we didn't get to take advantage of the pool and beach like we had hoped but rest assured if you want a lovely beach/pool experience Mariposa would fulfill the requirement. Bug spray is a must! Many people have left spray here and there is a basket of it in case you forgot. Don't delay in using the spray otherwise you will be itching bug bites your entire trip. Be sure to use spray prior to walking around in Placencia as well. Overall very nice place in Placencia.

- Ewa (10/5): - Mariposa is located on the beautiful beach.The resort is very small and creates very cozy and private environment The resort is well maintained very close to local airport. They have little restaurant but we had rental car and explored local Placencia restaurants. The staff is very friendly. We booked treehouse but they have construction on the property grounds. The manager offered for us beachfront room that was quiet and far away from the construction site . We really appreciated the upgrade. We stayed in this resort for a second time and never been disappointed. Thank you all the staff and manger for awesome vocation. We will come back.

- Rhonda (10/5): - The pictures you see online are totally accurate. Its a beautiful resort. The locaton is perfect, about a 15 minute bike ride into placencia. The restaurant is excellent! Loved every meal. The staff are the best. We have never been treated so well. They were always smiling, always friendly. Its a small resort so you really feel comfortable and taken care of. We stayed in #9 and we could watch the sunrise every morning from our balcony. Highly recommend!!
- Deb (6/5): - Mariposa is a 50 min walk by beach to Placencia. Not recommended... too difficult to navigate - do not recommend. Taxi to town is $10 (US). Our room was Treehouse #1. You climb up several steps to your room.... very cool vibe. You are quite far from the beach and the restaurant, but the facility is very well maintained and beautiful in the trees, so the walk is lovely. Staff was very friendly. Restaurant was okay. We were only there for 4 nights, so we went for dinner at the Turtle Inn down the road (walking distance) and had a lovely experience there with live music etc. The Mariposa has a nice beach, but like all of Belize, not great swimming. They have a couple of kayaks we took out (free) as well as paddleboards. That was really fun. Their pool is pretty small but nice!

- Amy (10/5): - If you want a romantic secluded get away, this is the place to go. We loved our tree house in the trees. It felt like we had a luxury resort all to ourselves with a 5 star service. The pool was beautiful on the beach with pool side service. The restaurant is top rated and the food made this evident. Any of the seafood is amazing.

- Ewa (10/5): - This is beautiful property on the Caribbean beach. This is small very private resort with cute restaurant. The service was excellent. The staff was super friendly and caring. I love everything about the place. My husband is suggesting only one improvement to install some railing to the pool.

- Kyle (10/5): - Clean, cozy, and excellent service. We stayed glide 7 nights, during “low season.” We had the resort to ourselves. We were upgraded to the suite with a balcony that overlooks the pool and ocean; it was gorgeous. The pool and beachfront are stunning; picturesque. All staff were kind and helpful. We had a bit of trouble with our AC and internet; both were addressed promptly. Would highly recommend and stay again.
- Craig (10/5): Great Staff! - When our flight to Belize City was delayed, Miguel stepped in and arranged for Tropic Air to create a later flight to get us to Placencia, and he came late to get us at the airport. The staff was wonderful and went out of their way to service us. Great staff and a great hotel!
- Tracey (10/5): Simply the best resort in the area - Mariposa was simply AMAZING! The treehouses are gorgeous and well maintained. The room was so clean and decorated with fresh flowers. The staff were so attentive and always friendly. The food was better quality than most anywhere- hats off to the chief for being one of the very best. I would recommend this resort to everyone as a must do.

- HOLLY (10/5): - We were only here for 1 night and we would LOVE to come back!! It was absolutely darling. It is very small - just little treehouses (maybe 12) and a small handful of workers running the place doing multiple jobs. They were all incredibly nice. Darling little breezy bar, nice quiet pool and beach area. Property was totally clean and they attended to every need. Cold towels and a drink on arrival. Fresh flowers on the bed. They delivered cereal bowls and milk to our sleeping teens, ha while we had breakfast oceanside. We had dinner there and it was delicious. This is the perfect spot if you just need to chill in paradise for a few days.
