Guest Reviews
- PATRICIA (10/5): - Needs some updating such as doors locks. Needs some more attention to cleaning such top covers, towels and some walla.
- Pamela (8/5): - Had to call a number for someone to come check us in. Our room was clean. Bed was firm. Pillows not so nice, but we had our own so no problem. It is OK for an overnight stay. Not sure I would stay 2 nights.
- Melissa (6/5): - The staff was great. The parking lot was convenient but could use a little clean up. The room was nice. The towels were clean but stained. It was close to the national park ,gas and food. Overall, it was a good experience. The best thing to me was the shower was excellent ( good pressure, temperature and clean).
- GEORGE (4/5): - No internet or Wi-Fi, No Breakfast, No wake up call available, No alarm clock in room, very limited vending machines with very limited choices, The front office was locked up the day I stayed.
- Lori (6/5): Okay - Cons: There is no continental breakfast, as advertised. The property is in desperate need of updating. The hot tub has been drained.
Pros: The service staff were very kind. If you’re looking for a cheap place to lay your head, it gets the job done.
- Linda (8/5): - Only problem was no Wi-Fi. But they had been hit by lightning earlier in the week and hadn’t been fixed.
- Gary (10/5): - Very nice hotel out in a pretty rural area. Nice pool. I was in a newly upgraded room which was nice. My only suggestion for improvement is the toilet is very, very low, for older people that’s difficult and no handrails or pull bars. Other wise great.
- Lori (6/5): Our stay - Advertising says continental breakfast and none was supplied.
- Robert (8/5): - Best motel within 20 miles.
- Jean (10/5): - Very clean rooms
- sara (6/5): - The property was nice with Comfortable beds, There was a latch lock for safety. No free breakfast and staff in the am weren’t super friendly. Coffee in the room could use an upgrade. Also there was bugs seen on the property.
- Kurt (8/5): - This property is good. I will stay there again.
- Gregory (10/5): - Property was clean, our room(106) appeared to have some mold on the ceiling. Not a bad place to stay overnight
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Website stated breakfast was included but were told no breakfast was being offered when we arrived. We asked for a discount but were told no.
- Jeremy (4/5): - Booked and paid for a room with a king bed, Had to call to have someone let us in due to arriving late. Went to my room and had 2 small beds. Office was already locked back up so i just dealt with it. Ended up only being charged for the double beds but its still not what i wanted
- Zsuzsi (4/5): - Not my first choice:
- Thomas (6/5): - Be nice if they would change the towels instead of leaving dirty ones up. Also the ice vending area is sketchy as hell.
- David (6/5): Dirty - The room was very dirty. The bedding was filthy and had to be changed, shower was grimy, and it was like the floor had never been swept. The service was fairly quick when new bedding was asked for.
- Stephen (10/5): - Pleasantly surprised! For the budget conscious traveler, this hotel is a 1. Clean, renovated rooms, very nice employees, you can't lose staying here.
- Esther (10/5): Excellent Overnight - This was a great place. Not expensive, excellent bedside reading lights, a good shower, a fridge is good shape, with a freezer.
- Anthony (10/5): - Great accommodation
- Zsuzsi (10/5): - Pleasantly surprised. Would totally recommend.
- amber (4/5): - The stay was ok. It was dirty, the toilet didn’t want to flush, the door didn’t lock
- Moira (10/5): Nice room on the road - My room was clean, quiet and very comfortable. I could not find vending, but otherwise was very satisfied.
- Marco (6/5): - The hotel and room were okay. Breakfast was not much and the room where guests were to eat was dark.
There was a television in the dining area. How about turning it on to a news station?! In addition, the desk attendent was not very pleasant.
My rating would be "fair."
- Melissa (10/5): - My first choice in hotels when I visit the area Always clean, Staff is always welcoming and friendly!!
- Coeli (10/5): - Quiet, friendly staff
- Larry (4/5): Will not stay again - Room was unclean dead bug by bed stand on floor, hair on night stand and tub, the bed wows horribly uncomfortable. The a/c unit was so loud it would wake you up everytime it kicked on. And the nastiest thing was that the bed cover, which I guess is for looks only was dirty! Had obvious signs of being unwashed. Very disappointed especially for the price.
- Michelle (10/5): Rooms are updated - Rooms are refreshed, beds comfortable. If you like coffee bring your own. Even if you thing driving down the road to get it BRING YOUR OWN. Well unless you like light brown water. LOL
- Marcus (2/5): - Room had stains on the bed and the towels
Overall horrible place
- Patricia (8/5): - Very clean and quiet rooms. Bed was firm which I like. Nice for not being part of a national chain
- Kathleen (6/5): - When we arrived to check in, the lobby door was locked. The owner showed up quickly, but it was still jarring to have to call for assistance—never had to do that before. Room was clean but towels and washcloths were dingy looking. Bed was very comfortable. Property looked somewhat rundown.
- Excursion48034657106 (2/5): Keep driving - Unpleasant owner. She appears perpetually unhappy. "Buffet "barely existent. Gravy like water and empty. Blond front desk gal is awesome. Moldy showers. Stayed here a couple times hoping it would improve...nope. Pool is clean. Sleep in your car.
- Rebbeca (10/5): - Wonderful! Staff was very nice!
- marcia (10/5): Fresh Rooms - I am traveling alone so greatly appreciated that my room number wasn't shouted across the lobby when presented with my room key. I was given an upstairs room without asking. The room was large enough to be comfortable. The fridge n microwave were appreciated. The room has been freshly upgraded with paint, flooring, furniture, mattresses and bedding. Everything looks and smells fresh.
- Jason (8/5): - The towels were stained but the room was clean
- Karen (10/5): Great room. - The room was nice. No carpet means no germs or grit on the floor. Room was clean. The continental breakfast was terrible. That was the only downside of the hotel. So if you want breakfast, go elsewhere or if they get a new cook.
- Stacy (2/5): - smelled terrible
- Alex (10/5): - Is a nice and quiet place. Is well kept.
- Jason (10/5): Best hotel in town - Staff was polite and attentive.
- Noel and Rhonda (6/5): - The breakfast was slightly above average. The noise level was way too much. The cost was way above what was received. Very disappointed.
- Stanley (8/5): - Decent motel near the beautiful Big South Fork. Staff wee nice. Breakfast sparse.
- Greg (8/5): - Refrigerator in the room was loud --
- Jennifer (10/5): - 8 of us came from Illinois to ride Brimstone. The hotel was clean, shower pressure amazing, and staff very sweet. We had the 2nd floor breezeway between all 4 rooms so we could set up our blackstone and a small table to cook nightly. It was absolute perfect and would highly recommend.
- Todd (2/5): - ANTZ in the beds!!! Flooded guestrooms! Nasty condition! Needs renovations badly!! No refunds even when showed all the video of BIG ANTZZZZ in beds!!
- Steven (4/5): - The breakfast was absolutely the worst. Not enough for the two of us, let alone everyone else. The cereal was stale. Sausage was dry.
I'm handicapped and we were put on the 2nd floor with no elevator. One ice machine and it's on the bottom floor. To use the deadbolt lock, the door had to be 1/4 inch open. The trash was emptied and the towels were replaced but nothing else was cleaned when we stayed there. The toilet had to be flushed 2 or more times to flush or remove the top and pull the lever yourself all the way up. One of the top two worst motels I've ever stayed at
- Andy (10/5): - Close to riding area
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I wanted to watch a few minutes of the news before going to bed and discovered the TV only had lying Fox New. No other options. Very few TV channels at all. The hotel is rather run down and worth about half of what they charge. The only drink concessions are in the lobby which is closed and locked at 9PM. If you want something other than tap water, you're out of luck.
- Todd (8/5): - Don't count on the breakfast. It is pretty much a joke.
- Kevin (8/5): - The beds was uncomfortable
- David (8/5): - Great little property near Big South Fork National Recreation Area. Staff was great. Very clean.
- Jack (10/5): - Nice quiet and near Big South Fork.
- Stacy (8/5): - Had a nice hot breakfast clean rooms, nice pool convenient location. Allowed dogs however expedia listed dog fee as $15 it was actually $20.
- Rita (10/5): - nice and quiet
friendly staff
room promptly cleaned each day (stayed five days)
breakfast available
- Felicia (8/5): - We like how safe it felt and easy to get in and out of.
- Matthew (10/5): Great stay - Very clean room and staff was friendly. We stayed 1 night to be closer to Huntsville which was 3 miles from hotel. We will be returning when we come back in a few months.
- Sandra (4/5): - This hotel is run down. Several pepper I went with stayed in different rooms and they were all
- Crystal (10/5): - It was very nice and quiet to it was a good place
- LeePulaski_Va_ (4/5): It is far from grand, it is not a hotel, and it and has no vista. - After a pandemic-related hiatus, I am back, gentle reader, with more pointless and inane reviews. I avoid overly critical reviews, but, in my endeavor for honesty, this post may be a trifle harsh.
1. This hotel is rather grim and drab. It could use a touch of color, and the weed-choked flower beds need a bit of work and love.
2. The Grand Vista is not a hotel; it is a motel with the rooms facing a bleak parking lot. The room doors do have a deadbolt and lock, but they seem ripe for kicking in.
3. My room was fairly clean, but it was dark and somewhat depressing. The alarm clock was not plugged in and would not work despite my best efforts.
4. On a positive note, the internet was easy to access and worked well.
5. The Motel is near a busy road, and the truck traffic at 5:00 AM was quite loud.
6. The shower did have good pressure and hot water. The tub drained poorly, however, and I had to stand in my filth while I showered.
7. The towels were very small and skimpy.
8. The in-room coffee was gross, but powdered cream is always bad.
9. The breakfast was sparse if meager. The display case had two bagels, but I consumed one after smothering it with margarine and cream cheese "spread." The scrambled eggs were ok, and the coffee was drinkable.
- Steven (10/5): - Nice staff, clean room and great value
- James (6/5): - This place is conveniently located close to brimstone rec. area. The rooms were ok, the beds were small but comfortable, and the breakfast was ok at best. The room could use a deep clean and the towels were brown. Overall i was pleased and plan to stay there again.....
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - The staff were great! I have no complaints. We would stay here again!
- Edward (10/5): - Very good staff was very helpful and friendly!!!
- Charles (4/5): - The room was average. 2 out of 4 towels were stained yellow. Bed was decent. Didn't see any bugs or anything alarming inside other than towels & mini fridge semi cold. Ok room for someone just passing through or needing a last minute stay. Younger lady who checked us in late at night was very, very rude. She seemed annoyed that we were even there. People walking around behind the motel and walking in the tree line kept us up all night. One of them tried to enter our truck, messed with trailer straps, making racket all night. We reported this to the manager at check out who was very nice & apologetic. The young female staff stood there glaring at us while the manager tried to rectify our situation by offering a free night stay next time we're out there. Hopefully next time will be more pleasant. The manager lady did seem like she wanted to make things right due to all the trouble we had.
- Caleb (10/5): Recommended - The staff was excellent. They really took care in their guests. It was very clean and the beds were nice. If we have to go back to this little town this is where we will stay.
- Frank (8/5): - Need someone to answer phones when lobby is closed..
- cityzen (6/5): Not great but might be better than the alternatives - It's not a bad place and it might be an improvement on any of the (very few) hotels nearby. I found it annoying that the office was locked and empty when I arrived so I had to wait for an employee to show up before I could check in. Also, the breakfast wasn't good (a personal opinion of course) and there was no social distancing at breakfast. Other than that, it was fine and it's entirely possible that it's the least worst hotel in the area.
Note that some internet sites give the location as Helenwood and some as Huntsville. My understanding is that "downtown" Helenwood (such as it is) is closer but technically the hotel is in Huntsville. It's on Hwy 27 just north of the junction with 297.
- Paul (6/5): It was OK: nothing better. - Not many options for hotels in the area and I've no reason to think this is worse than any other. It was OK but the lobby was locked and there was no one at the front desk when I arrived. The breakfast was limited and there was no social distancing for it.
- Dean (10/5): Nice place to stay - The staff was friendly and breakfast was good. Close to Big South Fork and Rugby.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Eek - Bed bugs!
- Jenny (8/5): - Easy access to interstate and surrounding towns
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice stay - Clean and comfortable. Service was good. I had a very nice stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay
Quiet & friendly staff
Great breakfast
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I absolutely hated the beds and the pillows.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff and clean rooms. Not much to do around the area kind of in the middle of no where.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice room. Parking was very convenient right outside my door.
- 645lisac645 (6/5): Just okay - We arrived pretty late at night around 1 am - we had to call to get someone to come over to get us checked in. I’m assuming it’s a family run place and they live on site. She promptly came over and got us all checked in which was great.
There must have been a miscommunication between booking online and checking in - we paid for a king and ended up with two doubles. At the end of our stay they offered us a small refund which was “all their computer would allow them to do” and no where near what we should’ve received between the difference of the two.
The room was okay. There were baby cockroaches crawling around the furniture and the drain in the bathroom didn’t drain during a shower.
We were grateful to have a place to stay but not worth the money.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was very accommodating and polite.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great property to stay at for the Brimstone experience!! Lisa checked us all in and she was AMAZING!!!
- Richard (10/5): say in tenn - room was great and clean. some flies due to the way they have ;doors open when cleaning. i fixed that.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the price and how close it is to brimstone, and that we could park our truck and trailer on the property
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff are super nice. The room was not. Sheets had yellow stains and pillows flat.
- Jeremiah (10/5): Traveling - We were traveling from Michigan to Florida, and the lady for the front desk came in at 1 AM when we showed up to check us in. Very nice room convenient parking
- MMorgan2571 (8/5): Off Road Excursion - Centered ourselves in Huntsville not realizing there is little in the way of over night stays, especially last minute on a Friday. GVH was it, front desk Lisa was extremely helpful & sweet. As for the rooms? Going back in time considerably. It was ok, but dirty. Door to bathroom was filthy, floor ... oh my! and towels tho washed rather dark from people use. Location was great, but definitely needs a major cleanup / fresh up. We spent two nights. The BBQ right there was delicious! If you want breakfast go to the gas station down the road. Tables & eat in.....rather good too.
- Robin (6/5): Clean bed to lay your head - Check in and check out was great. Clean room. Luke warm showers and no breakfast as advertised. Even had the laminated notice in room to remind us of the breakfast.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Parking was close to our room it snowed the first night there and no one plowed the parking lot so snow and ice was there to walk through our whole stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Was a good place to stay and everyone was very nice
- Wendy (10/5): Clean and convenient - There are limited places to stay in this area so we were very pleased to find a convenient and clean place to stay. The front desk employee was extremely friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a decent place to stay at and for age of hotel rooms were very clean. Only thing that could have been better was that they still had some type of breakfast. But we totally understand because of covid that they didn't. Also would be nice if they had more King rooms on lower level since they don't have an elavator.
- MadDogTraveler (8/5): Good hotel for visiting Brimstone - The room was fairly clean, by far not the cleanest place I have stayed at, but not the worst. The import parts were clean. It might just be a case of older so it appears not as clean. The room was a nice size. The bathroom was a new remodel. The rest of the room was very outdated, but it works. There were a microwave and a mini-fridge. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. The parking for trailers is good.
The location is perfect for UTV riding at Brimstone. If you want to ride the trail system you will need to trailer your machine and find parking elsewhere as you can not ride across the HWY.
- Kelly (8/5): Good location for UTV park - Check-in was easy and the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Parking was great with a trailer. The room was okay. it was clean but not super clean, there was hair in the bathtub. The mini-fridge wasn't very cool. it was run down a bit. The shower was the terrible water pressure was so bad no way to rinse out the shampoo. It was for the most part quiet.
- Holly (4/5): Choose somewhere else - No way this should cost $93. It took three tries to find a ‘non smoking’ room that had never been smoked in. I will say the young man from the front office was very gracious and helpful about finding me one. If the hotel had been full I would have been stuck. There is nothing food wise near it either. Thankfully the night I got in there was a BBQ food truck in the parking lot. In the morning I was able to get coffee from a gas station or I would have had to drive 12 minutes to Oneida for it.
- Wilson (10/5): - We booked our stay last minute and were very pleased at how clean the room was. The bed and pillows were also very comfy! The only downside was there was no breakfast as advertised which we understand because of Covid they can’t serve breakfast. I would recommend putting a note in the room stating that. Otherwise everything was great and we will be back!
- Pinie (10/5): I would stay her again - The person at check in was very friendly and helpful. I asked him about a place to eat dinner. He suggested El Reys. It was really good food.
- JeanaK_13 (8/5): Comfortable hotel near national recreation area - Stayed 2 nights with our 2 dogs. Comfortable room, good A/C, clean. No breakfast due to COVID. Call ahead to ask for ground floor room if have pets or don't want to climb stairs. Call if check in after 9 pm. Well lit outside. Off I-75 on 63 & 297 - good road & not too far. Also, Take a 20 min. side trip to Rugby, TN - cute 1880's Victorian England village.
- Stephanie (10/5): - A clean, quaint hotel. The beds were comfortable, the space was adequate, I will definitely stay again next time I’m in the area.
- lizajor (2/5): Dirty room - Overpriced and dirty room. In the bathroom you could see all the dirty fingerprints on the door frame. In the shower, you could see the walls were dirty as well. Absolutely disgusting. Customer service was friendly enough.
- Donna (4/5): - Lacking of enough towels and toilet paper. Pool was closed and price was too high. No breakfast
- Lisa (10/5): Great Hotel Stay - Very clean room, comfortable bed.
- Cheryl (10/5): - Very convenient area, very friendly staff and very clean rooms. The size of the rooms are very convenient
