Upon arrival, the staff warmly welcome you and graciously escort you to the lounge. Tea and light refreshments are thoughtfully served while you wait, creating a sense of attentive care from the very beginning. The facilities are immaculate and well maintained. The property offers open-air baths, a private bath available by reservation, and separate public baths for men and women, allowing guests to fully appreciate the relaxing hot spring experience. Gero itself is a charming town that can be explored on foot in about 30–40 minutes. As the ryokan is located slightly away from the busiest area, the atmosphere is peaceful and pleasantly tranquil. This was my first experience staying at a ryokan, and the traditional Japanese cuisine was truly excellent. Breakfast was equally satisfying and beautifully prepared. If the opportunity arises, I would be delighted to return in the future and share this experience with my parents.

Food at the ryokan was delicious and they were very accommodating and cooked alternative dishes for my son who doesn't take seafood. We tried both indoor and outdoor onsen, and they were both great experience. Our room might be a bit small for family of 4. But we kind of expect it for a ryokan.

We couldn't use the private onsen as it needs to be reserved in advance, however the public one was very good and we were lucky enough to have it all to ourselves in the evening. Exceptional multi-course dinner and breakfast with very good service. Convenient private parking right in front of the place. Very spacious and clean traditional ryokan room. Extremely kind and helpful staff. This was the best accomodation in our whole 3-weeks Japan trip!
• Lauren (10/5): A must stay in Gero Onsen! - The staff was very welcoming and contacted us prior to our arrival concerning dietary preferences, yukata sizes, etc. They allowed us to drop off our bags quite early on in the day so we could sight-see without lugging everything with us all day. We were extremely fortunate to have a wonderful staff lady to help us navigate the facilities and make us feel very much at home. She called us when it was time for our meals, took the time to explain all the various dishes, ensured we had a taxi available for our departure, and saw that our luggage was loaded when it was time to check out. The taxis booked were free of charge which was a lovely touch and the entire staff saw us off as we drove off. My husband and friends will be talking about this wonderful experience for the rest of our lives We left the bath door open for a little bit to enjoy the sounds of the private onsens streaming water before bed and unfortunately the cypress bath had some odor (probably mold which makes sense given the wood tub and constant water flow) quarternary ammonium salt would probably help with this issue.

We opened the doors and could listen to the rain through the screens. We loved the private, reservable onsen and used it both nights. The staff was very courteous and the breakfast was very delicious and served in a private room. They even provided a taxi to and from the train station to the hotel! Highly recommended!

• LABCDE (1/5): Unbelievably Rude Service for a family Stay - . Unbelievably Rude Service for a family Stay The service at this hotel was the worst I have ever experienced. From check-in to check-out, the staff repeatedly reminded us of the check-out time, even pretending to ask about our next plans just to stress that we must leave by 11 AM. We never once said we would stay past the time, and we were fully aware of the check-out policy. Yet throughout our stay, they kept sternly repeating “11 AM check-out,” making us feel like criminals. We booked two rooms with breakfast included. At check-in, the staff asked if we wanted breakfast served separately or together, and we clearly requested separately. However, breakfast was prepared together, and when we pointed this out, the staff simply said that the person who checked us in was off duty and they knew nothing about it. Their only response was “sumimasen” with no responsibility taken. It made us think — what if these two rooms were for strangers? Would we be forced to share a breakfast table? Finally, at check-out, we brought all of this up, but none of the three staff members could speak English at all. They only used a translator to keep repeating “sumimasen” and “non-refundable” (even though we never asked for a refund). I have stayed at many places in my life, but for about $400 per room per night, the level of service here was unacceptable. If anyone wants to experience such treatment, feel free to stay here. For us, this completely ruined the image of Gero, and we left at 11 AM as if escaping. 400불 숙박에서 믿기 힘든 무례한 서비스 이 호텔의 서비스는 제가 지금까지 경험한 것 중 최악이었습니다. 체크인부터 체크아웃까지 직원들은 끊임없이 체크아웃 시간을 강조했고, 심지어 다음 일정을 묻는 척하면서 11시 체크아웃을 반드시 지켜야 한다고 지속적으로 말했습니다. 우리는 체크아웃을 늦추겠다고 한 적도 없고 규정을 잘 알고 있었음에도, 투숙 내내 “11시 체크아웃”을 엄격히 반복해 마치 죄인처럼 느끼게 했습니다. 우리는 조식 포함 2개의 방을 예약했습니다. 체크인 시 직원이 조식을 따로 준비할까요, 같이 준비할까요 하고 물어보기에 따로 준비해달라고 요청했습니다. 그러나 실제로는 함께 준비되어 있었고, 이 문제를 제기하자 직원은 “체크인 담당자가 오늘 쉬는 날이라 우리는 모른다”라는 말만 되풀이했습니다. 책임을 회피하며 단순히 “스미마셍”으로 끝냈습니다.

• Edmund (10/5): - This hotel is the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed at. The staff were helpful and always very friendly. The breakfast option was extraordinary, a private banquet of traditional Japanese dishes. The hot spring is beautiful, a rock pool flowing with healing water, always available. It is right on the Hida River which brings a soft tranquility. The walk into town is short, 15 or 20 minutes brings you to the center of town, with many dining options, temples and shrines. A truly memorable and relaxing experience.

• monsieurzhi (10/5): Exquisite ryokan nestled in the serene town of Gero - We were truly impressed by our two-night stay at Kasuitei. We enjoyed the gracious hospitality – it set a high bar for Japanese service. One of our travellers fell sick one day before arrival, but the hotel agreed to waive cancellation charges. It was a kind gesture on their part. The hotel bridged the language barrier. We were hosted by a front desk who spoke eloquent English and staff who went out of their way to use Google translate to introduce breakfast dishes. I’ve visited many ryokans that introduce their Kaiseki in Japanese, leaving guests perplexed. The front desk gave us food recommendations and helped us make a reservation. Our room was immaculate, spacious and cosy. It offered a beautiful window view (would look amazing in autumn with scarlet red leaves). We liked the hotel’s attention to detail. For instance, the futon pillow was concave and provided neck support. The public and private onsens were new, clean and well-maintained. There was also a massage chair for use after taking a bath. Breakfast was delectable. I miss the main dish for my day-one breakfast – grilled vegetables in a hot plate of rich miso. We highly recommend a stay at Kasuitei in Gero.

• Myo (9/5): Nice stay. - Nice room, nice food, very nice hot spring water! Every time we got out of the ryokan we had to give them our room key and then when we got back to the ryokan they showed up with my key suddenly, smoothly. It’s ok but a bit strange too. Meaning, it wasn’t comfortable. The private outdoor bath needs reservation(once per day, only for afternoon) but after we checked in there was no availability. We stayed 2 nights so we could use it just one time.
• Verified traveler (10/5): Pampering - If you see this review. Just book it if is within your budget. They take care of everything once you stepped into Gero station. Jus hopped into any Taxi waiting at the station and your retreat begins. We stepped into the inn and didnt think of going any where until our check out time.

• Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Great traditional-style Ryokan. Walking distance from the town and there is on site parking. Large, clean rooms. Ample meals. Both an indoor and outdoor public bath. Right next to a flowing river. Very pleasant staff. The only things some people might not like is more of a clash of Western tastes with traditional Japanese bedding and cuisine so not really a minus in my eyes.
• Robyn (9/5): Lovely ryokan - Beautiful attentive staff, lovely gardens and onsen, and huge traditional breakfast included. The location is walking distance, about 1 km to the town centre. No washing machines but there is a coin laundry close by that was easy to use. It is a traditional ryokan so the bedding and seating are all on the floor, which was cool for us but might be challenging for someone with back problems.

• Belinda (9/5): A Pleasant Stay - 1) dinner and breakfast were served in a private room with greenery view 2) room is very spacious with a small dressing room and balcony 3) every staff is very nice and attractive 4) they provide free taxi ride from /to the train station so you don’t need to worry about the traffic arrangements 5) the out door Onsen is good and I didn’t use their indoor one 6) the hotel very quite and peaceful 7) food of dinner and breakfast are of good quality Nil

• Lisa (10/5): Outstanding service and accommodations! - This hotel was fabulous on all levels: service, cleanliness, breakfast, room, onsen, etc. The staff took very good care of us. The hotel's private and public onsens were amazing! The hotel was not crowded; we would often be the only ones in the public onsens. The breakfast was outstanding. We were amazed at how much effort it took to prepare the food. The presentation and taste of the meal were outstanding! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Gero. You won't want to leave this property and the pampering of the staff!

• Ai (10/5): Excellent food, tranquil ambience. Highly recommended. Price reasonable. - Staff very attentive and very hospitable. Food is excellent. Property very well maintained and exude a tranquil charm as it’s located next to the river. Love the onsen spa pool. They have public onsen pool and private onsen pool which needs reservation in advance. Overall my family enjoyed our stay here and we highly recommend it. Nothing.
