- Jerry (10/5): -
- Jessica (10/5): Nice, relaxing break - Great room, friendly staff, lovely location, free parking. Really enjoyed our stay. WiFi was a little patchy but gave us a good excuse to detox from our phones :)
- boswell (8/5): -
- Diane (10/5): Briilant stay despite the weather! - Fantastic food
- 125janetp (10/5): Outstanding family run restaurant and pub. - We visit Chequers quite often and absolutely love the place and the staff, which is mainly made up of family members.
We’re just back from a 3 day stay and as usual we had our usual warm welcome and the most delicious steak one night (steak is our usual option) the second night I opted for fish and chips. The fish was so nice, big white flakes and very tasty. Hubby had the haddock Thermidor, again very tasty and well presented. We had a dessert one night and I can honestly say the roulade is possibly the best I’ve tasted. Hubby had apple pie and was uncertain whether to have cream or ice cream. It came with both for him. All the desserts are home made and well worth a try if you’ve got room after very substantial main courses.
But,
Last night we changed our selection completely. I went for a prawn cocktail starter and he had the crispy beef. Both were outstanding but hubby said it was the best started he’d had there ( we’ve tried them all) uncertain about mains I asked Harry (owners son) what specials they had on. He told us about the chicken schnitzel and then he suggested the salmon in Mediterranean sauce. This was absolutely amazing. Cooked and presented to perfection.
I cannot recommend this lovely restaurant with its relaxed atmosphere highly enough.
If you’re ever in the area, or fancy a delicious meal cooked to perfection try Chequers
You’ll love it
- Barbara (9/5): Great nice away - The staff were very helpful and polite. Beautiful views as we stayed in the king. Loved the bedroom . The meal. was very nice, as was the breakfast The bed was a bit hard, but that's personal preference.
Could do with a 'to do ' helpful notes in bedroom for accessing tv and heating.
- Tattersall (10/5): Stay at Chequers @ Harrogate - Room was lovely, upstairs with a balcony.
2 doors one at the front to a private balcony and a door to the rear from the walkway to enter the room.
Fabulous bathroom, deep bath and powerful shower. Plenty of hot water.
Restaurant..
Good menu
All home made food..
Baileys Cheesecake to die for.. Nothing to complain about.
- Louise (10/5): Fantastic stay - What a lovely hotel! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff, especially the young gentleman we had most of our dealings with, could not do enough to make our stay more enjoyable. The dinner was outstanding and breakfast was just what we needed. We will definitely come back again if we are in the area. We have now ticked off Chequers Inn on our bucket list! 😀 The face we did not book for more nights
- Ruth (10/5): - The friendly staff, the room was excellent clean and well decorated. The shower was very good.
With the pub next door so getting food was really good. The staff remembered our favourite drinks and were attentive and kind.

- John (10/5): -
- Irene (9/5): A pleasant 2 night stay close to Fountains Abbey and Ripon - The glamping pod, quiet location, friendly owners/ staff, comfort, underfloor heating, good shower, comfy bed, good pub meals. Hob was tricky to operate, TV wasn't digital so couldn't use Internet, towel rail in bathroom didn't work
- Carol (10/5): -
- Donna (9/5): Good value for money! - The evening meal was delish. The room was great for the money. The breakfast was a bit random. No one around to ask for anything and I asked for no tomatoes and got one. The offer was quite basic.
- Paula (10/5): -
- Chris (9/5): - Friendly staff, good food in the evening and at breakfast.
Plenty of parking space. A decent choice of ales.
There was a balcony which would be nice to sit out and enjoy the sun with a glass of your choice. Nothing really
- Emma (8/5): - The food was amazing home cooked and tasty
- Toni (8/5): Great value friendly stop next to some super locations - Staff were really friendly and helpful Great location
- Oliver (8/5): Exactly what I was after for a great price. - Easy access. Nice modern decor. TV and wifi. Bar can be very loud and noisy, not sure why the restaurant wasn’t open on the friday but other than that very good.
- Sam (8/5): Lovely quite getaway - Quite location
- Amy (10/5): The staff were exceptionally helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. - The staff were absolutely amazing! - Lauren (10/5): Lovely place to stay and the staff were so warm and friendly - Lovely, cosy style rooms
- sheila (9/5): Comfortable family run hotel, enjoyed our stay - Clean, comfortable, good food Nothing
- Chantelle (10/5): Very pleasant - Lovely rooms lovey staff. One of the staff noticed how tall my partner was and saw we were in a room with a bed with a footboard so moved us to a bigger room. I thought the thoughtfulness and attention to detail was lovely. The pub was really nice we didn’t eat just had a drink. Only a ten minute Uber into the town centre. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like the only thing I did notice is we stayed two nights and had our room cleaned but had no hand towel or the milk wasn’t replenished. I’m sure if we would have asked they would have happily sorted it out.
- Maher (9/5): - Food outstanding relaxing bar peaceful staff friendly place immaculate
- David (8/5): - All the staff were lovely, they sorted out an issue for us and made sure we were comfortable. Personal preference but the mattress was too hard for me.
- Barbara (7/5): - Ein äußerst freundliches, familiengeführtes Hotel!
- Stephanie (8/5): Good value-for-money hotel - The room was exceptionally clean and it was serviced during our stay. It was good value for money. The staff were helpful and friendly. There were streaming services available on the TV in the room.
Breakfast was £14 pp and there was a good selection of cooked breakfasts to choose from - the full English and the eggs royale were delicious. There were also cereals, yoghurts and toast, orange and apple juice. Considering the price of breakfast, it would have been good to have had some fruit and maybe croissants/pastries on the cold buffet selection.
The listing needs updating as it stated all the rooms had garden views, which was one of the reasons we booked this hotel, but our room overlooked the car park! It also stated all rooms had a desk - ours didn't, which wasn't a problem for us as we didn't need one, but others ought to be aware in case they require and expect one.
- Carol (10/5): - Lovely family run Inn. Good location. Very good value for money. Staff could not do more. Good food in restaurant. Every moment in the next room heard as the walls are a little thin.
- Helen (8/5): Good, nice room & friendly staff - Nice room, clean and comfortable Wasn’t aware it was a carvery meal until we went for dinner

- Adam (8/5): - Lovely people/staff and the food was good. Good price for the stay, ample parking, good location for where we needed. Uncomfortable bed, creaky floorboards

- Ellen (10/5): -
- Katherine (7/5): -
- Stephen (5/5): Ok for a one night stay if you don’t have high expectations. - The location of the property was good - very close to Ripon and Harrogate. Staff were very polite and helpful. The property needs some TLC. The original room we were allocated didn’t have any plug sockets near the bed so we ended up having to move rooms in order to use medical equipment. This was dealt with swiftly and efficiently, however, the room we were moved to didn’t have the same facilities and seemed a downgrade. The TV was not a Smart TV and the bathroom had black mould on the ceiling above the door and no radiators to dry towels. There was also a loud beeping sound outside the room that could be heard all night and the room was very dusty.
- HOWARD (9/5): - All the staff were extremely friendly. Room well appointed and immaculately clean. Good food and beer. Good car parking. There was nothing I didn't like.
- Kate (9/5): Great return visit, would return again. - Great homemade food, warm welcome and friendly staff. Clean We found the room too hot overnight but wouldn’t wanted to have been cold either - a tricky balance in an old building?
- Sheena (10/5): Amazing ! Brilliant ! Comfortable! Clean ! Food amazing ! - Beautiful ! Amazing ! It’s like a hidden gem ! Staff are friendly could not do enough for u , rooms are beautiful decorated n warm food was amazing ! The owners should be very proud of themselves and there staff Thanku all for a lovely stay x U really could not fault this property !
