Amelia (7/5): We had a good time but I feel for the price we should have had a great time. - The property is beautiful and the suite was gorgeous. Hallways covered in art- very pretty. There is no vending or store, no breakfast, one of the receptionists was quite frosty (the other was lovely), no minibar, no balcony, the room was a little dirty, the tv wouldn’t connect to the internet… basically a very small amount of amenities for a very big price. Had we known they didn’t do breakfast we probably would not have stayed there. There is no business center and no desk in the room. I brought some work with me and that made it difficult to accomplish anything.

SimmyTraveler (10/5): Worth the drive off I-95! - We are always on the lookout for nice hotels to enrich our road trips & the Mantissa didn’t disappoint! Our room was gorgeous & well appointed! The Sleep Number bed was very comfortable. Loved the big soaking tub! Definitely was a draw for us. It was great after a long 7.5 hour drive even though it was a ways off I-95! Totally worth it! While we initially had a bit of confusion upon check in with the type of room booked, it was quickly sorted. There were a few niggling fine points that could be improved upon, the person at the desk upon checking out asked about things and assiduously took notes on the few items.

The area is nice with the local small business and downtown feel. The only complaint is that there is a pool advertised and the pool they are referring to is the community Y pool across the street.

marciagM4204PE (6/5): Need a dedicated cleaning crew - I was a bit disappointed in this hotel. My husband is from Hartsville and we wanted to do something different this trip home. We were excited to see a local establishment. The hotel is beautiful but lacks the dedicated cleaning crew. Room 209 was so full of dust (everywhere), it appeared no one had occupied the room in a minute and they hadn't cleaned it. I was sneezing all day until I decided to clean it up myself. The room is very spacious. The sleep number bed doesn't work. The good thing is there is plenty food options right outside the hotel that are really good. We're going to stick to our routine and book at Hampton Inn or Fairfield. Management really need to read these comments and get the rooms evaluated and throughly cleaned!

The room I was in 209 was extremely dusty I was sneezing half the day until I cleaned it up myself. It appeared no one was in the room in a while. I wished I could upload pictures. Other than that we had a pleasant stay. Very convenient location, food in walking distance. Rooftop bar is an added bonus with live entertainment on some days.

We checked in later in day and she was very nice and gave us some good information for our stay and suggested we grab a drink at the rooftop bar before they closed. The old / renovated building itself is beautiful. We loved that they had some breakfast snacks and drinks available - which we had not expected. It was great to have a living/dining/kitchen area - especially the full size fridge and a stove (though we didn't use it). The town is tiny, and everything was walking distance and parking was so easy. The bathroom needed better cleaning, specifically the shower. It has some mildew around the edges that was quite noticeable. The lights in the closet would not turn on.

We asked to be contacted for an early check in which they stated they would and both time we had to to clean to check. The rooftop bar was nice but the cups were dirty. We are now fighting sore throats. There was a slight damp smell when walking into the room. The highlight of the trip was the restaurant a little on the expensive side with SMALL portions but the food is better than expected. I would definitely choose Holiday Inn or Comfort Inn and Suites before choosing this place. Then when you try and report anything nobody is at the front desk. If you check my call log I know I called over 12 times. Okay I’m done with my rant just very disappointed

alexasI6121GD (2/5): What a mess - Not what I was expecting for a hotel that was the best in I had ever seen just a few years ago. There is mold growing on the top of the ceiling in the shower which I’m sure is from the water that pours out of the ceiling when you turn the shower on. The drain wasn’t secured and easily moved and is a safety issue. The door doesn’t keep water in the shower and the floor is soaking wet when go to get out which is another safety concern since the floors were not cleaned properly they started to sud up when I walked around (slippery). There is no hand soap (bar or liquid) to wash hands in restroom. TV did not work properly. Bed was okay but I have no idea how to really set a sleep number bed so it was uncomfortable for me most of the time. I did try different settings. The only positive was the rooftop bar. After reading other reviews I saw that they don’t care if you have issues so I didn’t bother telling the staff. Complete disappointed. My one weekend to myself in two years was a mess. My husband heard me talking about stay there the past few years and gave me that as a Mother’s Day present. Wish I would have stayed at the Fairfield Inn.

The TV in the bedroom wasn't setup right. Figured it out by plugging in the cable and using the remote in the living room to change the input. The pillows were flat as a pancake. The coffee maker didn't work and parking can be an issue on the weekend. As it's not just for the hotel.

It is located in the small town of Hartsville, SC, in a quiet area that has plenty to offer. Several excellent restaurants are next door or across the street, and the Rooftop Bar is a hidden gem! The suites are huge and very comfortable. The staff is very helpful and friendly. There is a Tesla charging station out back. There is a full kitchen in each suite, but we found it wasn't very well stocked. Just bring your own cooking pans, etc, if you plan to cook. You won't be disappointed in the Mantissa!
Matt (4/5): Will look for a better hotel next time I visit family here. - Hotel was clean, and nice. Room was clean and spacious. Given the wrong room. Booked a king suite with balcony. Coffee maker in room didn't work. TV in bedroom didn't work. Pillows were flat as a pancake and even with three pillows used for one person, they still didn't offer enough support.

Jan (6/5): This was probably a thriving town at one time but with stores closing at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon it is headed to a g - Location Staff was non-existent when we arrived for check-in so had to come back and then wait in line for service. Room had a full kitchen with Keurig but no pods. We felt that the staff did not do a thorough job of prepping our room for the one night we stayed there. Sleep number bed did not work sufficiently and the bathroom sink was more of a horse’s trough than a sink with no place to put your toiletries. Only one thin towel per person. Rooftop bar served the worst dirty martini I have ever had - could not finish it. Service there was good and the surroundings were pleasant enough but the bartender needs to take a bartender course. Dinner next door at the steak house was wonderful.

Kris (6/5): Average stay - Disappointed with some of the desk staff, we had to ask twice with two separate employees to get extra blankets for the children staying with us in our room. The night staff member "bartender" covering the front desk was very helpful. One of the blinds in our room was broken and was held up with bobby pins. All in all the stay was average but definitely less than expected for the price.

Alexis (10/5): Exceptional - I loved the scenery and how everyone including strangers were having a good time. Good food surrounded everywhere. This was my 2nd time staying at this hotel and I love it. The only thing I disliked well it's really not a dislike just that if you're gonna have stoves to cook on can you guys get trash cans to put in the kitchen and not the small ones because people traveling do bring food to cook.Some people don't eat downtown they rather cook like I did. I had meat packs and nowhere to put in a trashcan to fit. But other than that I loved. But a bigger trashcan for the kitchen is a must if people are bringing food to cook....

K6649FOoliviab (8/5): Great Place to Stay - Great place to stay, the staff is super friendly, and helpful once you’re there. Mainly dealt with Shaniqua after having a booking issue with another person. She was quick to apologize for the mishap and make sure we were happy from check-in to check-out.

Being in the center of town made dining and shopping convenient, lots to do within walking distance. Our suite was spotless with all of the "extras". The bed was super comfortable! We can't wait to return!

Great location; close to multiple restaurants. Very nice rooftop bar for relaxing by fire. Will stay there every time. Within walking distance to Coker University.

Discerning_mum (6/5): Nice hotel but some definite down sides. - The suite was spacious and bed comfortable. The location is great. The rooftop bar is lovely and the service great. Unfortunately there was an overwhelming chemical smell in the reception area and it pervaded into my room which was very unpleasant and I struggled to sleep because of it the first night. Also, to call the offerings a grab and go continental breakfast is stretching it a little. Mass produced muffins and oat bars. Sunny D juice. Only one kind of tea (ginger - a random choice). Very disappointing - it’s a good job we were able to get breakfast at the office!!

kippyd2019 (8/5): great but with one major let down - The Room was amazing, the staff was incredibly accommodating, and the rooftop bar where I had my party was everything I needed and expected! the only thing that needs to be addressed immediately is the HORRIBLE and significantly subpar breakfast. What an insult and lack of awareness. It was atrociously disgusting. Sunny delight for the orange juice a stale muffin and it seems like a 5-year-old granola bar along with an apple...are you kidding me?

Justin (10/5): First “Boutique” Hotel Experience - Very nice modern internal, but historic feel to the hotel and area. Friendly staff, very clean room and very convenient to local shops in Historic Downtown Hartsville. This was a family trip for an “unofficial” family reunion and the hotel room almost felt like “home away from home” the two nights we stayed.

JoeyandTinaCarney (10/5): Spacious Suite In A Small Southern Town - This is a great spot in the little town of Hartsville! Our classic King suite was very spacious and we enjoyed having a full kitchen (minus dishwasher) and separate bedroom. The staff were pleasant but Darnell went above and beyond in customer service. He definitely made our trip more enjoyable with his friendly demeanor and southern charm. My husband liked the computer work station on the second floor. There are definitely plenty of food spots within walking distance of this location. The continental food boxes had some great snacks items for our son. We would definitely stay here again when visiting family.
woc1124 (4/5): Expecting elegance, reality not so much - Lived in Hartsville for many years. When I had to return for family reasons I looked at the different hotels in town (not a big selection). For $20 more a night I said sure let’s give this unique hotel a try. The good: beautiful hotel and the front desk staff was very nice. The rooms was very nice looking and very spacious (main reason for booking). The bathroom was huge. Now the bad: for those with sensitivities to smells you must avoid this hotel. All through the lobby and hallways it smelled of some type of fragrance not bad, just very overwhelming. There wasn’t a comfortable spot in the entire room to sit. Their Sleep Number beds are highly advertised, those were the most uncomfortable beds I’ve ever laid on. The two sides were never the same, even after spending an hour trying to set them, when they worked. The couch/sleeper was cheap pleather and hard as a rock and the barstools were sketchy. Every sound echoed in these rooms, the tv in the living room was just as loud in the bedroom. That echo, well our second night we found out how much our neighbors room echoed too. From 11:30 - 1:00am I could actually hear the beer cans open. They weren’t extremely loud but easily heard thru the walls. The ‘boxed’ continental breakfast, was never mentioned at check in. The lights were minimalist it seemed. The window coverings were a nice looking shutter style on a swinging door. The shutter in the bedroom was broken and wouldn’t adjust the door in the living room didn’t align to completely shut without lifting on it. No blackout curtains, so guess what you got up with the sunrise. Some of these things can be overlooked depending on the type of hotel you stay at. For $450 for two nights I expect more, a lot more.
