The rooms are very traditional, comfortable and charming. Their oare onsens outisde looking into the trees, inside and also in each room. The multi-course meals are beautifully presented and very traditional.The staff is gracious and helpful. Our server, Atsume, was very helpful in explaining the dishes and is delightfully fun and quirky. The tatami mat was uncomfortable at first but we quickly adjusted and slept well. The grounds are stunning, with many pathways and water features. The turbo sazae seafood dish.

Ho apprezzato ogni momento, dall’atmosfera del ryokan al silenzio della natura, dalla cura dei dettagli alla sensazione di pace e tranquillità che si respirava ovunque. Tutto il personale è stato incredibilmente cordiale, gentile e premuroso. Mi sono sentita accolta e coccolata per tutto il soggiorno, e questa è una sensazione che difficilmente dimenticherò. La cena e la colazione incluse erano abbondanti e deliziose, preparate con grande attenzione. Dopo cena siamo andati nell’onsen ed è stato il perfetto coronamento di un’esperienza già meravigliosa: rilassarsi immersi nell’acqua calda, circondati dalla natura e dal silenzio, è stato davvero emozionante. È un’esperienza autentica e speciale che consiglio con tutto il cuore

The building feels like it's in its original state, and staying here is like stepping back in time, for better or worse. The staff were very nice and they offer vegetarian kaiseki meals if reserved in advance. Terrible value for money. Extremely expensive considering the meager accommodations (no attached bathroom in the room) and very small public onsen. For this price, there are better onsen ryokan in Hakone. Having stayed at dozens of ryokan, I was very disappointed in what we got for the price we paid.

Le jardin autour du Ryokan est juste fabuleux. Les repas gargantuesques avec des découvertes culinaires incroyables Rien, peut-être que les futons sont un peu trop durs pour mon dos et les oreillers pas très confortables. Pas un souci pour moi mais l’accessibilité au onsen privé nécessite de descendre un escalier assez raide donc pas forcément recommandé pour quelqu’un qui aurait des difficultés avec ça.

Upon learning that this was our engagement trip, they went out of their way to make the experience memorable, with two gestures that were both unexpected and meaningful. During dinner, we were offered a complimentary sparkling sake, and we were also upgraded to the Imperial Room — a remarkable space that elevated the entire stay. The room itself is truly impressive. Spacious enough to accommodate a large group, it features a traditional ryokan layout with multiple living areas and a private onsen that comfortably fits two people. Overlooking the surrounding forest, it offers a quiet, immersive connection with nature. The property maintains a very classic character, preserving its original architectural style and atmosphere. This is not a modernized reinterpretation, but rather a place that embraces its heritage — something that adds depth and authenticity to the experience. Dining was consistently excellent, with high-quality ingredients and careful execution in every course, reflecting the standards expected in a traditional ryokan setting. The venue is well kept with some vintage stuff around. Dinner a breakfast were traditional, well cooked and tasty. Futons were quite comfortable to sleep. While it is not forbidden to bring small children, there is nothing prepared for them. At the breakfast a dinner literally no food is given except rice and it was challenging to keep our 3-year old child well fed. Since we were drying the high season, I understand the pricing policy, but it is also true you may get completely new hotel with meals at the same price.

The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The dinner and breakfast are phenomenal. It’s a little dated, but it makes sense given the traditional setting.

- Nancy (10/5): We enjoyed the immersion in a very traditional, historic ryokan. Beautiful and welcoming. - It is definitely a Japanese breakfast which offered unique traditional dishes. Because we are Westerners, we are not used to so much savory food in the morning.

Experiência de banho termal foi maravilhosa, assim como as refeições estavam muito bem elaboradas com apresentação bem elegante. No dia da partida estava chovendo e eles providenciaram um carro até a estação de trem para não nos molharmos Gostei de tudo
- Célia (10/5): On aurait aimé y rester encore plus longtemps ! - L’emplacement était exceptionnel, au milieu de la nature et à côté d’une rivière d’eau thermale. La chambre incroyable, les lumières qui entraient le soir et le matin étaient incroyables. Le bain privé était superbe! La nourriture servie dépaysante, plusieurs choses qu’on ne connaissait pas et c’était un plaisir de découvrir, tout était délicieux. Et enfin, l’accueil a été parfait du début à la fin, et on souhaite encore plus particulièrement remercier une jeune fille qu’on pense s’appelle Shiori (on n’a malheureusement pas annoté son prénom), pleine de vie, curieuse tout en étant très respectueuse, elle nous a donné envie de continuer à apprendre le japonais pour pouvoir avoir des conversations encore plus longues, et donne envie de connaître d’autres parties du Japon. - Mina (9/5): - It is a very traditional japanese ryokan, the breakfast and dinner are very traditional as well. We were very happy with our room and the onsen was great. The futons were especially comfortable and it was quite cozy at night. With the dinner the dishes were always not as warm as they should’ve been- they were always served just a bit hotter than room temperature.

The highlight was definitely the food. We were served an incredible 12-course traditional Japanese dinner that was easily 5-star quality. If you enjoy traditional cuisine, this is a culinary dream come true! However, it is important to understand that this is a historical place, so it might not be for everyone. You need to appreciate history and be ready to embrace the traditional lifestyle: sleeping on Japanese futons on the tatami mats and using the toilet in the hallway. But if you can do this, you will have the most fantastic experience. It truly feels like being transported back in time. I will definitely come back and I highly recommend it to all my friends who want to experience the soul of Japan

- Lynn (10/5): Definitely recommend! - Perfect location. Literally 5 minutes from Gora Station. Serene and lovely surroundings. Staff was kind and gracious. Food was fabulous! We took the breakfast and dinner option. Dinner was wonderful but a little overwhelming because there were so many dishes. Breakfast was more manageable. Loved the property but our room, Kasei, was a tad bit tiny.

Sehr schöne Indoor und Outdoor Onsen, superfreundliche Menschen und das beste - vegetarisches Essen wurde möglich gemacht. Es war sehr lecker und sehr authentisch japanisch. Alles in allem ein fantastischer Aufenthalt.

- Michelle (10/5): Perfect ryokan experience with amazing service - The service from the staff was exceptional. Very friendly and attentive. This was probably the best experience of our stay. Everything from the food to the design of the hotel and rooms made it feel like a very authentic ryokan experience. We enjoyed everything about the hotel. Nothing about the hotel. We wish the weather could have been better to be able to see Mt Fuji or take a tour around the lake.

Staying was a real traditional Japanese experience and we felt personally cared for. The spa and bath were real highlights, and the environment was peaceful and meditative. - Patricia (10/5): A beautiful gem, the highlight of our trip. - We stayed at Gora Kansuiro in part because (at least at the time) there were no restrictions on tattoos. Having a limited choice of accommodations turned out to be in our favor, though, because the stay here was absolutely a highlight of our time in Japan. The location, a short walk from Gora Station, could not have been more convenient. The room, with a balcony view of the surrounding mountains and traditional tatami mats, could not have been more gorgeous. The staff, who spoke exceptional English, could not have been more welcoming. The kaiseki dinner was excellent, we loved the breakfast, and the grounds were gorgeous.
