Guest Reviews
- Nbc55 (8/5): Lovely ‘Away’ at the Inn.. - The Inn is lovely..we stayed for one night in Room 3. A little small, but room enough for a couch, no microwave/refrig..but a very comfortable bed. It is an ‘Inn’ so you could hear other guests but not enough to be bothersome..staff are friendly and we had breakfast in the restaurant which was fantastic..
- John (4/5): - The hotel is tired the dining room chairs are worn out for example
- Kerry (8/5): - Loved the area around the Inn. I found our room a bit too small. There was no place to hang our clothes.
- Joanna (8/5): - Bayfield is like a mini version of Niagara on the Lake. Numerous clothing stores, art gallery, restaurants but missed the kitchen store and Christmas store that I recall from a previous visit many years ago. Great golfing nearby which is the primary reason we went. As seniors would have preferred walk in shower. Tub was a little scary, no grab bars. Overall, enjoyed our visit.
- Amy (10/5): - Quaint little place
- Patricia (10/5): - We loved our stay. Our room was very clean and comfortable and we had dinner on the patio at the inn. The food and service were excellent
- alison (10/5): - Great few days away from the rat race. Great walking area, some shopping and great food. Short walk to the beach. Off season was lite crowd.
- Barry (10/5): - We love Bayfield and always choose The Little Inn. The staff are always attentive and friendly and atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed.
- Robert (10/5): - our stay was very nice and we enjoyed it so much we will return again.
- Rose (10/5): - Enjoyed my stay at the Little Inn.
- Jocelyn (10/5): - Great location . Ships close by 5 pm
Great restaurants available -
Everything located very close to the In
- Charles (10/5): - Very nice and quaint hotel we’ve stayed at before
- Jesse (8/5): - Overall, a really enjoyable experience. The hotel warns that the parking is street parking but we did not have any difficulty finding parking very close to the hotel as there is quite a lot of parking along Main St. Service in the restaurant and bar was friendly and very good. The only detractors from our stay were: 1. The plumbing is probably as old as the building. The shower would very suddenly turn quite cold, probably because someone somewhere else turned on hot water. 2. Our room was the last room in a hallway and there was no light in the hallway. I don't mean that there was no lightbulb; there was no light fixture at all. It wasn't so much of a problem with there not being enough light to see the lock and get into our room, but just detracted a bit from the experience of returning to the room.
- Jan (10/5): - We had a very comfortable bed and lovely shower. We did not mind in the least but people should know that there are stairs up to the rooms.
This is a beautiful spot.
- Trips-n-Tips-Canada (10/5): Excellent stay - Booked a room last minute on Travelzoo to take advantage of the summer weather. We spent one night here. What a wonderful quaint inn. We loved our room it was massive with a full size sofa, room 15. It felt like we were going back in time. The bathroom was spacious and quirky. You had to take a huge step up to get into the large soaker tub and shower. The sink was a pedestal one, so not a lot of room for putting things down, although they had a bench. They should add a shelf somewhere at sink level or above. We enjoyed the happy hour on the veranda, it is nice that they serve food during that time. Our package included breakfast and it was delicious, we had the eggs Benedict which people had recommended. The different dining rooms are styled differently. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. We loved Bayfield, such a beautiful town. Don’t miss going to Rosie’s for ice cream, what a treat, it is directly across from the inn. Also, Pioneer park is a 5 minute walk where you can watch the sunset. You can also take the staircase down to the beach.
- coderg2025 (4/5): Read this Before Staying in the Cottage - Overall, The Little Inn is a great place to stay; I have stayed in the Inn several times and it’s lovely. The rooms, the dining, the staff are all great …highly recommend! The cottage is a different story! It’s dated and beyond “rustic”! The damp, musty odor and bugs galore are undesirable, to put it mildly. If you stay here, bring your own linens and be prepared to complete a thorough deep cleaning of EVERYTHING! Be sure to bring insecticide as well to spray for ants and spiders! The in-room air conditioners are loud; you may want to bring fans! The only thing that makes the cottage tolerable is the unbelievable view! It is breathtaking. If you stay here, just be prepared to clean and sanitize so you can enjoy the beauty and serenity that is Bayfield and Lake Huron!
- Peter (2/5): - Wi fi and tv where out for at least two days. Most surrounding stores and restaurants closed and only open on weekends. I left one day early and was hoping to get a refund for the one night’s stay. Eggs in the restaurant were under cooked. Worst I have ever had
- Bridget (6/5): - The Inn is nice but getting worn and attention needs to be paid to lighting (very dim in the rooms) and furniture (arms rests or chairs worn and tattered, need replacing). It needs a facelift.
- David (8/5): - Pro: vintage decor & atmosphere
Con: at night, many of the TV channels required subscription, so couldn't view
- Salvatore (10/5): - Wonderful little inn!
- Peter (6/5): - Historical very rustic. Would have been nice if they had bottled water in the room. Also no additional blanket to use when on couch.
- Robert (10/5): - Was a cute clean place to stay! We were celebrating our 30th anniversary and wanted a quick getaway. Was perfect!
- Dolores (10/5): - Beautiful property. The must charming quaint town. Will definitely return.
- Laura (10/5): Nice inn - I enjoyed my stay. Lovely hotel. Quiet and peaceful with beautiful views. The breakfast was fantastic!
- Yan (8/5): - Beautiful place
- Cheryl (8/5): - Quaint and historic. Sweet staff. Food was not as good as in the past.
- Karen (10/5): - We really enjoyed our night at the Little Inn in Bayfield. It was a clean and comfortable room. The breakfast was delicious!
- Caroline (8/5): - Quaint vintage Inn
- Neil (10/5): - Beautiful town
- ALEXANDRA (10/5): - I stayed in one of the original rooms with direct access to verandah. A very nice feature for morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. The Little Inn is a gem. Would highly recommend.
- Allen (10/5): - It was a really nice time.
- Kim (10/5): - Fan in bathroom on same switch as light, very loud
- Rae Edward (10/5): - The convince to all the really neat shops - a lot of variety -
and the bookshop next door is terrific.
We really liked the Inn’s patio area - great for people
watching.
- LADYBUG2012 (6/5): Needs some TLC…but the Inn is still rather quaint! - Always wanted to stay at the Little Inn of Bayfield! Not a bad stay but a few things needed fixing in the room we were in, windows, screens, light bulbs, etc. But we weren’t going to make a big fuss, we were only staying two nights! Place is most definitely quaint, no doubt. It has personality, it was clean, staff were friendly and helpful for the most part. It was a tad strange to be told upon checkout that maintenance staff did not have time to fix an issue that we reported to reception the day before! Oh well, no biggie… we survived, albeit the room being quite warm during a heatwave! Guests have no control whatsoever of the AC thermostat as it is centrally controlled and managed! Fans in the room only blew warm air back into the bedroom, still … we survived our two nights.
On a completely different note, we have to say breakfast was outstanding! The apple cinnamon crepes, the French toast with a twist was delish! All in all not an entirely bad stay, so we would return but try a different room, for sure! Just our two cents: please give the Inn some TLC if you can? Also if we may suggest something, guests would probably prefer having body wash to conditioner in the bathroom? Thank you nonetheless for an enjoyable stay.
- Steve (10/5): - Incredibly well maintained property
- Danny (8/5): Canada Day getaway - Nice location. Very comfortable bed. Room a little small, but considering the age of the building, adequate. Located in the center of town with shops and restaurants steps away.
- Paula (10/5): - A lovely property in a great location.
- Rosemary (10/5): - Lovely property The staff were so attentive and pleasant The room was cool but was attended to quickly
- Linda (6/5): - Beautiful historic Inn. Staff are very nice. Area is amazing - easy walk to many shops, Lake Huron, park areas and restaurants.
On site restaurant... this is our 4th visit. The quality of food has seriously declined. Prime rib was unedible - tough and grisley. Waitress did not ask how our meals were even after seeing we did not eat the meat. Breakfast was okay - bread was hard/ unedible. Not sure why this area has gone so bad, but otherwise, if you are are a heavy sleeper then the downstairs rooms are okay - as you hear EVERYTHING from the hallways and upstairs rooms. I suggest staying upstairs for a better sleep. I know, it's an old Inn.. but there is no soundproofing.
Our group of 4 sat with the owner at the bar one evening and he did not greet us, ask how our stay was.. nothing. Disappointing. Not sure if we will return for a 5th visit, although we do love the village and convenience.
- Rosemary (10/5): - /
- Kenneth (8/5): - Charming building; excellent village.
- Wireway (2/5): Not impressed - A friend took us here for lunch, menu is extremely limited abd pricey, I had chicken pot pie with salad, was good size portion but too much pepper, my wife had quiche with salad, she seemed to like it, however less than an hour later she was violently ill, obviously food poisoning our Dr. said !
- Linda (10/5): - Our stay at The Little Inn was the perfect place to reconnect. Our rooms wonderful & the bed & bedding excited our expectations. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner & breakfast was also perfect. Staff very friendly. Only negative would be that when we checked in we were not told about the “happy hour”. We found this out from a retailer in town. We did have a glass of wine on patio but it was unfortunately after 5 so we did not get the deal. We would both recommend this place to relax & reconnect with friends. We plan on returning in April 2026
- scubamammaMilton (6/5): disappointing - Just returned from a short overnight stay at the Little inn. There were 4 of us so our room choices were limited- we had a queen bed and a pull out couch. It is a very small space for 4 women... we were a bit surprised to see just 1 chair to sit on and no table (ie to play cards etc). The balcony might have been nice had it been warmer- but the chairs were dusty and obviously not ready for the season yet. There is no hotel staff after 5 pm which I found interesting... we asked for a spot to sit downstairs and socialize and they seemed surprised by the request- eventually offering a back room after 10 pm when the dining room was cleared. We were the only ones downstairs on a Saturday night- and it felt VERY QUIET.
The bathroom is lovely- but not private as the door remained ajar.
The room is definitely quaint- but starting to look a bit shabby (cracks in the ceiling, unable to close the bathroom door, etc). Obviously excellent location.
We had brunch in the dining room and it was a poor experience. The english muffin under my eggs benedict was as hard as a brick. When I told the staff- he brought me a sharper knife 10 minutes later....
Also asked front staff on check in about nearby hiking trails- she didn't really know- but then "remembered" a spot near the campground- but didn't give us a map/etc. We just used All Trails and found a nice hiking trail near Goderich.
I wouldn't choose to stay here again unless some major renovations occurred.
- Jim (10/5): - Very quaint location. Outstanding service and food amazing
- Robert (10/5): - Beautiful historic building, room are very nicely updated with old charm feel. Location couldn't be better in the beautiful town of Bayfield.
- jeannie (10/5): - Nice staff, room had lots of character.
- Chris (10/5): - Lots of history behind this very charming hotel. Already planning on coming back in the fall.
- William (6/5): - Link to bygone days
- Ronald (10/5): Great food & service - Everyone and everything from the welcome desk to checkout was great. A-plus food and bar!
- Mark (10/5): - Great location and unique spot
- Brad (10/5): - Walkable
- Jackie (10/5): - Quaint little inn, stay were pleasant and the bed super comfortable! Several hours before check in, I received a call to say the room was ready in case I wanted to check in early. That was appreciated. I would stay again.
- G1264DIkarenh (10/5): Beautiful from start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!! - My GF and I just spent a glorious night at the Little Inn in Bayfield. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed so warmly. Lovely room and beautiful breakfast the next morning. Can't wait to return. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a lovely spot to explore all that Bayfield has to offer!!!
- Chris (10/5): - First time at The Inn and we were not disappointed. Room was perfect, bed very comfy. Voucher for Happy Hour was a nice little surprise. All staff very friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Anniversary Getaway - Delightful stay, loved the hotel restaurant and quaint little town. A short walk to the beach and amazing sunsets.
- eric (10/5): - Cute and charming, just what we were looking for. Our meal and service for dinner was amazing.
- Lynda (8/5): - The inn was on the main street of Bayfield, right by all the stores and shopping. Lots of choice nearby for dining.
- Peter (8/5): - Quaint,
the stairs to the second floor were rather narrow
- Serge (10/5): - Everything was great. Just our room was a little on the cool side and we couldn't turn the heat on.. Otherwise and amazing property to stay at and great little town!
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely quaint spot in a picturesque town.
- Susan t (10/5): - Lovely old but nicely furnished building, great bed and linens, beautiful large bathroom, second floor balcony for after dinner drinks, fabulous walkable village.
- Dennis (10/5): - Was not comfortable about parking. You could end up a long way from the Inn.
- John (10/5): - We stayed in one of the Carriage rooms and found it to be wonderful! Our room was clean, quiet and tastefully decorated. There is definitely a feeling of history in this building which adds to the experience. We had a delicious breakfast at the Willow Room restaurant, which we will be recommending to our friends.
- Heather (10/5): - We stayed for our anniversary weekend. The property is lovely, the staff were great and the burger at the restaurant was amazing.
Only tip, if booking carriage house room 5 - it’s a nice room but noisy as it’s right above the lobby and next to the stairs. You hear everything- including cleaning staff shouting up to see what rooms are ready.
- Susan (10/5): - Restored architecture is unique.
- Suzanne (8/5): - Thank you, we had a wonderful time.
- Cara (10/5): - Great place and great town. Highly recommend.
- MiriEgg (10/5): A great spot for breakfast/brunch! - We booked a fairly last minute breakfast/brunch for our family of 10 and the staff were so accommodating. It was impossible for us to all fit outside so we were seated inside in a large, airy and cool room and were so warmly welcomed, despite adding on some further guests which required some table juggling!
The breakfast menu was varied and had something to suit everyone - eggs, pancakes, bacon, fruit etc with great coffee and juices.
Would highly recommend.
- Helen (8/5): - Lovely and quaint, in the heart of Bayfield.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Loved everything about our stay. Our room was so lovely and the bed was very comfortable!
- Wilma (10/5): - A beautiful hotel in a quiet village. The room was clean. The bed and bedding were comfortable. Made for a perfect getaway. Easy check in and check out. We will be back.
- Neil (8/5): - The room was nice. The bed was comfy. The bathroom was freshly renovated. The restaurant downstairs is to die for. The only drawback was that the Wifi was a little slow. The television featured Netflix but because the internet was too slow we never got it to work. Luckily we brought a laptop and got Netflix up on that instead.
- Mary Beth (10/5): - Love the quaintness of the historic inn. So convenient to shops, galleries and the beach in downtown Bayfield!
- Taylor (10/5): - Loved staying here. all the staff i spoke to were very kind and welcoming. the bed in room 6 is like a cloud. the vintage vibe is super cute. i truly had everything i could have needed for my stay already waiting in the room upon arrival and they had no problem accommodating my late(ish) check-in. would stay here again for sure!
- Rachel (10/5): Great spot for our relaxing little trip - We enjoyed our stay. The bed was super comfortable and the room was nice and dark. And very quiet. We would definitely go back again. The restaurant was closed for dinner, but we went for breakfast and it was excellent as well.
- Nancy (10/5): - Quaint little inn with a comfortable bed. Great location.
- Cary (10/5): - Charming hotel and town and great food.
- Caroline (10/5): - Charming Inn , comfortable beds with nice linens.
- Paul (10/5): - Great little property that was perfect for ou anniversary night. The Little Inn is right in the middle of Bayfield so perfect for dining and beach.
- Marty (8/5): Review - Dripping shower, no soap for shower, not enough staff for Wednesday dinner - had to wait 45 minutes to get our food after ordering.
- antoinebV640DW (2/5): Avoid Little Inn - Poor Service and Broken Promises - My wife and I were excited to visit Bayfield for our anniversary. We booked an expensive room at the Little Inn, expecting a pleasant stay. On a beautiful 28°C (82°F) day, we arrived to find our room freezing at 12°C (55°F). I adjusted the thermostat to 21°C (70°F) and we left, hoping the room would warm up.
When we returned, the temperature had dropped to 10°C (50°F). The front desk informed us that the thermostat only controlled the gas fireplace, and we should use it to warm the room, as the hotel had a single thermostat in the lobby. The manager was unavailable and never called back.
The lobby was warm because the staff blocked the cooling vent. Other rooms were equally cold. We decided to leave, not wanting to ruin our anniversary further.
The front desk promised a refund the next day. However, the manager later claimed they couldn’t process it because we paid via Expedia using PayPal. They then told Expedia they refused to refund us.
Our anniversary was ruined by this poor experience and broken promises. Little Inn seems more interested in taking your money than providing a comfortable stay. Save yourself the trouble and book elsewhere.
- Rachel (10/5): - We always enjoy our stay at the little inn in Bayfield.
- John (8/5): - Quaint and charming
- Shari (10/5): - This little gem is on our agenda every summer.
Lovely rooms, great dining and love Bayfield

- Jennifer (10/5): - Lovely property, quaint town
- Dan (4/5): - The staff were great except house keeping. No extra toilet paper in the room. No face cloths no hot water after running for 20 minutes. No one to call after 6 pm on front desk.Sorry but will not be booking again at the little inn of Bayfield .
- John (10/5): - Excellent service and staff!
- Margaret (8/5): .ovelystay - Lovely stay in Bayfield at the Little Inn. Friendly & welcoming staff & good size room on 1st floor. Only complaint was that the hallway & stairs were wooden & very creaky & our room was directly over the frontdoor so abit noisy.
Excellent breakfast sat outside in the sunshine made up for it.
- erinhobin21 (6/5): Very hot room - It is a quaint hotel in a convenient location but I was disappointed with my recent stay. It was very hot outside and the AC didn’t work in our room. The front desk is not attended after 5pm. We phoned and left a message to request help but no response.
- Jen (10/5): - A quaint and relaxing getaway, will for sure be back!
- Alan (8/5): - Location was very convenient.
- Gary (6/5): - Its a beautiful inn, great breakfast. Room was lovely but the bathroom had a strong smell. Willing to put it down as an anomaly. The hotel was immaculate and well-maintained otherwise. The restaurant and other places were not open Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Thais (6/5): - I thought the front desk staff was less than friendly and not very accommodating.
The breakfast staff was very slow and confused.
The food was very good.
- George (10/5): - Beautiful location. Great walks in the town and area. Very nice old Inn. Friendly and accommodating staff. Very nice room. Really enjoyed our stay.
- Gregory (10/5): - Great place; would return
- Kristy (10/5): - Adorable property. Loved the use of the verandah at night to sit and relax.
- Kenneth (8/5): - Well maintained old building.
- Beyond_YXU (8/5): The Little Inn Offers Big Value - We have stayed at The Little Inn several times over the years, with our last stay prior to this one being during the COVID era. It was nice to return for the May long weekend this year and find everything back to normal.
The hotel was offering a terrific special rate on their website ("Spring Fling") that included breakfast, so I booked one of their two rooms with a private outdoor space: Terrace Suite #9. The term "suite" is a misnomer, however, as it's just a standard sized room with a sofa and a larger bathroom.
Check in was very quick, and we grabbed one of the pre-filled buckets of ice on our way upstairs so we could chill our champagne. The room was very clean, but the closet had just two hangers, so we had to go back downstairs to request a few more. There was ample closet space and lots of drawer space to store all of our things. The inn's website has photos that show toiletries by L'Occitane, but they are no longer provided. In their place is a basic hospitality industry brand called "Manuka Honey." The towels were decent, but the toilet paper holder was missing (just the mounting plate remained), and the area around the shower door could use some maintenance.
The attached deck overlooks the rear yard that unfortunately is sorely in need of landscaping--it could be so pretty with more attention paid to the flower beds, and perhaps adding a fountain feature, some lounge chairs and some umbrellas. The deck was furnished with just four Muskoka chairs; instead, two chairs and a dining table would be a better option.
We were glad to have the private deck available, as there really isn't anywhere else to sit and relax in the Inn. There used to be a lounge just off the entrance, but that's now set up for pub-style dining. And the veranda on the second floor now has tables and chairs for people to have drinks and snacks, so the rooms fronting on that space now have no privacy during regular business hours.
The menu in the main dining room is more limited than it was years ago during the Inn's heydays, so we chose to have dinner in the village. Breakfast, however, was much improved from our last visit. They are back to serving a variety of entrees, and the breakfast package even includes specialty coffees. Service was very friendly and prompt.
Overall, it was a pleasant and relaxing stay. The Little Inn provides very good value compared to similar accommodations elsewhere in Ontario, and Bayfield is a nice choice for people looking for an easy, quiet getaway.
