Guest Reviews
- Thomas (10/5): - Pleasant walk to downtown Saugatuck. Room was super clean.
- Randy (6/5): - Clean and large room. Overall in good shape and large refrigerator. Bed was comfortable but bring your own pillows as while there were many there were very firm. Key code system for room lock worked well once you remembered how to use . Good location just a 15 minute walk to town . Continental breakfast was fine though nothing unique and good coffee.
- Karen (10/5): - Excellent location. Staff especially front desk very professional and personable !! Will be back.
- Jeanne (10/5): - It was very close to downtown Saugatuck. The management was friendly. The motel was clean and super quiet. I would definitely stay again.
- Joseph (10/5): - Staff was excellent. I'll stay again

- Forrest (10/5): - One of the cleanest places we’ve ever stayed!!
- Richard (10/5): - Great folks,,, very nice. We will go back ..
- Samantha (8/5): - Great location and quiet comfy rooms. The room lacks a few amenities and the bathroom is small. Breakfast is pretty basic but it’s good value for the area and works fine for a short stay.
- Dionne (6/5): - It was clean. The bed was just okay. Our complaint is that it was overpriced for what we got. Total $188...this was nowhere close to what a $200 room should be.
- Joel (10/5): - Very good stay.
- Lee (10/5): - Good stay
- Magdalena (10/5): - A very nice basic motel. A nice breakfast included. We were able to walk into town safely. Very well kept and clean.
- Jeanne (10/5): Great Place to Stay - This is our hotel of choice when visiting Saugatuck. It’s always very clean and has a typical hotel breakfast included. The rooms are very quiet. Even though there was no vacancy, we couldn’t hear any noise from any other room, or from the road. The owners are very nice. We’ll stay here again next time we visit the area.
- Beverly (8/5): - Thought is was closer to town
- Gregory (10/5): - We were greeted warmly when we arrived & offered suggestions as to where we could eat. We tried most of the suggestions & enjoyed all of them that we tried. Room was cleaned daily, bed was made & fresh towels provided if we indicated that they were needed. The owners are very friendly & helpful & we plan to stay there whenever we’re in Saugatuck.
- Joyce (10/5): - Close to activities but far enough away to be quiet.
- Michael (10/5): - Had a basic breakfast, bed was comfortable, free wifi and the place was clean. You cant beat what you get for the price anywhere else.
- Emil (10/5): - Great place, great service, great location! I will be back.
Highly recommend!
- Anna J. (10/5): 2 day mini get away - Great location, staff very helpful with assisting with local amenities. Room was updated and clean, comfortable.
- James (10/5): - This is a privately owned small business that is actively managed and operated by the owners. The room was very clean and the property well maintained. The location is quiet. Going to Saugatuck and Douglas are easy and nearby. Bed linens, towels and carpet were in very good condition.
- Kathleen (10/5): - Kind and accommodating front desk
- Loren (10/5): - A wonderfully quiet and quaint stay!
- Karen (10/5): - Wonderful location, walkable to downtown. Front desk very helpful and friendly.
Cleaning staff was very friendly and professional.
- Nita (10/5): - The husband was extremely nice and helpful. The wife didn't acknowledge us the first 2 times we saw her, but she was very nice when she checked us out. The breakfast had bagels, cereal boxes, and juices only so we went elsewhere. Overall, very nice facility and we would definitely recommend.
- Ryan (10/5): - Adorable motel that far exceeded my expectations. Very clean, comfortable, and secure. Will definitely be staying here in the future.
- Marie (8/5): - A nice little niche tucked on the side of the road. We were given fantastic restaurant recommendations in Douglas ( Everyday people café A+)
Nice breakfast setup.
All simple but welcoming.
- David (10/5): - Very clean
- peter (8/5): - A nice Motel in a great location. Good breakfast and very clean. Some cloth hangers would be nice
- Sharlene (10/5): - This property is very well kept up, friendly staff. Breakfast room well stocked. Nice clean large room double queen room.
- Laura (10/5): Pleasant stay - Clean, comfortable, friendly staff, and a great location. My only complaint is that they don’t offer coffee in the rooms. You can request a coffee maker be brought to your room but you have to bring your own coffee. They do provide a continental breakfast but I had to leave before it began so I had to stop elsewhere for coffee. Not a big deal but unusual for rooms not to have coffee in my experience.
- Lee (10/5): - The motel has an old school family travelers road motel feel, but is brand new and private and safe. The room felt newly renovated with a nostalgic feel. The check-in with Crystal was fast and easy. There are ample pieces of information for finding what you need while at the motel and regarding the surrounding area. The walk to the Saugutuk waterfront is an easy 15 minute walk. If you’re not a walker, there is a shuttle for $1 cash only to “downtown” Saugutuk. The hotel provides a beautiful outdoor seating area and a fire pit in the “backyard” if you want to cozy around a fire. There are also cafe settings outside the room to sit and watch the trees. We were there on a couples getaway and found it perfect for that. I can’t speak to how a family with young children would like it. We loved it. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you, Captain’s Quarters.
- Virgal (10/5): - Great place to stay even with it being outside of downtown it was an easy walk to get there. I would recommend this as a great place to stay.
- Abigail (10/5): - We had a very good stay, clean and quiet! The hotel breakfast was solid and the location was very convenient.
- Michael (10/5): - Absolutely love the place. We’ll be going back often as we visit the west side of Michigan. They were very accommodating very kind. The rooms were excellent strongly. Suggest considering you make reservations next time you’re in that area.
- Kevin (10/5): - We were very happy with our stay. Everything in the room is is excellent condition and the rooms are very clean. The owners are very friendly and happy to answer questions and give recommendations for dining, etc. I forgot my iPad charger and they called me as we were leaving town so that I could come back and get it. Definitely recommend.
- James (10/5): Quaint - This was a one night stay and I was pleased by the aesthetics of the property. I knew it was outside of the downtown area, but really it was a short hike through a residential neighborhood. Let’s face it, couldn’t we all benefit from a serene walk?
- Susan (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. They even allowed us to check in early!
Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Mark (10/5): - Very quaint quiet extremely clean small motel close to everything. Having lived in Douglas for 4 years I was always intrigued by this place. We were greeted by Cody, the owner who was as hospitable and welcoming as you could ever hope for. Skip the chain mo’s and ho’s and give the Captains Quarters a bang for your buck.
- Patty (10/5): - My 2 sisters and I stayed here in June and really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. We took our continental breakfast outside and ate on one of the two round picnic tables in the courtyard. Would absolutely recommend this motel and the owners are so very nice.
- Ralph (10/5): Excellent Location and Value - Exceptionally clean and quiet. Just a 3 minute drive or a lovely 15 minute walk to downtown Saugatuck.
- Susan (10/5): - Great mattress. Very clean, quiet. Good breakfast...close to town
- Audrey (10/5): - Very quaint yet up to date. I was a bit worried that it might be musty and dusty, being the oldest motel in the area. It was not!! The room was clean and comfortable and the grounds well kept, pretty and peaceful.
- 533laurenz (10/5): A Great Decision - This was the perfect place to stay for our weekend getaway. It was quiet and very clean. The staff are amazing and attentive. All in all, we had exactly what we needed for the best couples getaway.
- Ann (10/5): - We stayed a night. The Owner gave great suggestions on what to do in the area. We had a wonderful stay
- Daniel (10/5): - Nice, old school vibe but not outdated. We'll be back, loved it.
- Bond (10/5): - Nice place and nice people
- Tammy (10/5): - Very nice, pretty property. Easy check-in.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Very nice, small, quaint property. Loved that it was walking distance to town, yet out of the hustle and bustle and in a quiet location.
- John (10/5): - A very nice motel. Bed was very comfortable. Room was clean. It included a dehumidifier which made it so comfortable. Free breakfast was very simple nothing special but more than I've received at most motels and even some hotels. Our next journey along the west coast will include a stay at the Captain's Quarters.
- Gail (10/5): - We loved this motel and would stay here again.
- FENGMAO (6/5): - It’s ok. But I don’t like the sounds from next rooms and car door slamming right outside the door. The breakfast was so so.
- Donna (10/5): - Completely renovated and exceptionally clean. Perfect for a getaway. Staff was nice. Breakfast was a good start with coffee, pastries, yogurt, fruit. Just what we needed.
- Katie (10/5): - quiet
- Jennifer (10/5): - Quaint property that is perfect for laying your head down at night after a wonderful day out and about. Clean, wonderful breakfast spread, and just a great family-run property. You can walk to town if you’re up for it.
- Pamela (10/5): - Adorable little motel, friendly staff.
- Kim (10/5): - Quaint motel. The owners were very friendly and gave us advice on restaurants and area attractions. The room was very clean and comfortable. Continental breakfast was included in our stay and had several options for breakfast. We would definitely stay again.
- John (10/5): Our stay - Check In was great and friendly. property is very clean and well kept . Pillows little firm for my liking.
- Ajay (10/5): - Clean room, clear instructions
- Emilie (10/5): - Cutest little hometown motel. Very clean rooms and out door area. Owner was super nice! She recommended some places around town.
I would stay there again and again.
- Paul (10/5): - Well managed
- Castor (8/5): Very cute, uncomfortable bed - Super friendly staff. Continental breakfast has no hot food - bagels, cereal, yogurt, and coffee. Nothing wrong with that! My only issue was the bed was super uncomfortable but I have back pain already so maybe if you’re a trooper it won’t be so bad. My wife was fine but she doesn’t have chronic back pain.
Wifi works well and room cleaning is good. There is a microwave for free use in a room not far from the rest of them. No hygiene issues or broken stuff. Would definitely come back if not for my fussy back.
- Kimberly (10/5): Great little hotel - Simple overnight in saugatuk during the tulip festival. Will definitely return for a longer stay at the beach.
- Linda (10/5): - We enjoyed everything about Captain's Quarters! Would recommend to anyone staying in the area.
- Brenda W. (10/5): - As a small family owned hotel, i felt we had a more personalized experience. The owner checked us in and provided valuable information on the area. Very clean and comfortable room. We enjoyed our stay.
- paul (10/5): Top notch - This is a property owned by a young couple not a corporation. The rooms were larger than average; everything was clean and fresh and well maintained. All the usual amenities were present. It was a fewest out of town, so it was very quiet but still only 3 minutes to wherever you wanted to go. We would definitely recommend this to anyone.
- kellydU3801SS (10/5): Coming back again!! - This is our second stay! Great service, very clean, updates rooms, very friendly and personable owners. We cannot recommend this place enough, definitely give it a look when you're staying in the Holland/Saugatauk area, very close to cool areas.
- Shawn (10/5): - Lots of trees and a quiet area
- Donna (10/5): - Crystal was awesome! Our room was refreshed and tidied when we returned from our adventures.
- Aaron (10/5): - great place
- Lisa (10/5): - Owners were great! Nothing fancy, but great motel.
- Susan (10/5): - Very clean, staff was friendly, would stay again.
- Mary (8/5): - Close to so many things!
- Dana (10/5): Wonderful stay in Saugatuck. - The stay was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was quant and comfortable, providing what was needed for our stay.
- Jeffrey (8/5): - Accommodations were very adequate for our needs. The only thing from preventing us from giving it a perfect rating is the musty smell that overwhelmed the room.
- Beata (10/5): - The best. The nicest people/owners. Super clean. Close walking and driving distance to everything around. Beautiful landscaping around this motel. This is my happy place and the only place to go when I’m in Saugatuck. Thank you 💗
- David L (10/5): - Very Clean, reminds me of the old time motels.
Nothing elaborate, but very efficient. Loved it!
- James (8/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with one exception. It would have been nice if the breakfast had been earlier. I left the property to get coffee as there was none provided in the room
- Mark (8/5): - What I liked was the ease of checking in & Crystal was very nice , very clean and close to both towns Saugatuck and Douglas .
The price was very reasonable and a very good complementary breakfast , nice choices to chose from .
What I did not like was no Do Not Disturb signs . I do not like having house
keeping entering my room especially since we were only there for 2 nights .
They came in after the first night to empty 2 waste baskets , totally not needed .
If you're okay with that I would recommend if you didn't mind not being in the downtown area .
That being said I will stay somewhere else next time .
- Mario (8/5): Great location, clean & comfortable. - Perfect location, about a 10-15 minute easy walk into town. Helpful staff booking us in - lots of useful information about the local area. Room was basic but clean & comfortable. Breakfast is quite basic but adequate. Not a fan of the disposable plates, bowls & cutlery.
- Brian (10/5): - We had a wedding a to attend less than a mile from Captain's Quarters. The location worked out perfectly for us as we were in and out all weekend with festivities. We were welcomed by a wonderful staff; room was very neat and tidy and the simple breakfast was icing on the cake. We will definitely return if we head that way again.
- Barbara (8/5): A good place to stay a night or two - I booked this place because it was reasonably priced for the area and didn't require hauling luggage up stairs for just one night. The room was very basic and a little bit oddly laid out, but it was clean and adequate for one night. I missed a coffee machine in the room. I didn't go to breakfast, but my traveling companion did and she found it acceptable.
- Ellen K (10/5): Great stay - Bed was comfortable, room was clean, hosts were friendly and efficient. We would stay here again.
- Denise (8/5): - The room was very small, but clean. No chair/chairs in the room, so we brought in our camping chairs. Tight fit, but it worked.
- Kristyn (10/5): - I would stay here again.
- Cathy (10/5): - Loved the property and loved the location
- Jill (10/5): - We loved how close it is to downtown. Yet private. We had a bonfire early evening. Wonderful area in the back of the property. Met friendly people who were also staying. Probably the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed. Coffee in the morning was hot & brewed perfectly. Would stay again definitely.
- James (10/5): Quaint and comfy Motel - Quaint, clean and conveniently located. We stayed in room 4, it was small-queen bed( very comfy)one night stand, full bathroom(tight but clean). They have a fire pit on the property and we had a fire every night- we purchased firewood at the local store but I think the property sells it too. Continental breakfast was complimentary and sufficient- served from 8-10. Every day we came back and our room was tidied. Really loved this quaint motel. Will be back!
- Brent (10/5): - Unique Cape Cod feel . Enjoyed Captains quarters very much !
- Brittany (10/5): - Very cute property and very convenient entry for each room and loved you didn’t have to worry about a room key. Might need to invest in some softer mattresses but overall excellent stay.
- charlottesU306UK (10/5): Great Stay - I would definitely recommend this accommodation for a visit to Saugatuck. It is a well maintained motel. Crystal was a very congenial hostess. The continental breakfast had plenty of selections. I especially liked the coded access to our room. No keys or cards to lose. The only negatives were the noise from the air freshening system and the pillows were a bit hard. Would certainly stay here again.
