Guest Reviews
- Thomas (10/5): The Lodge Newbury - Ideal location Room felt a bit small
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Marcel (7/5): - all was fine and breakfast was good staff at reception not friendly and rather demotivated
- A W G (7/5): OK for racing - Proximity to racecourse Limited dinner menu
- Irene (6/5): It served its purpose and was a pleasant stay with no issues. - Great location. Friendly clean. Pretty basic for the price. £200 for one night in a very small room. No cupboard drawers or bedside tables although small hanging area. No toiletries or shower cap. No room service. Pillows not comfortable.
- Nantawan (8/5): -
- francis (9/5): -
- Cathy (8/5): Very good value, lovely people! - Very welcoming team and surprisingly comfortable Restaurant a bit haphazard, dinner order wrong and breakfast order forgotten
- Colin (4/5): Provided convenient place to stay when needing to be near Newbury -
- Mehvish (4/5): Paid too much for quality and service I received - Food Room unclean
- David (8/5): Good value and clean - Clean good value and modern facilities. I got allocated a disabled room although I was not disabled. The wet room just flooded so I was cleaning my teeth in 30mm of water!
- Timothy (9/5): I would definitely stay again - Nice decor, good WiFi and comfortable
- MICHELLE (6/5): Good. - Close to our event. Staff were very helpful when we arrived. Issue with getting into our room. Arrived at 915pm. Got into our room at 1015.
Squeaky floorboards.
- Helen (8/5): -
- Marissa (5/5): It’s a fair and comfortable place to stay if you have friends and family in the area, but there are nicer stays in town. - Good location, beds were comfortable, free coffee if you did not pay for breakfast. After fees, it felt too expensive for the value. Nowhere to put your suitcase, no nightstands, nowhere to sit. Rooms are very outdated, shower was gross, floors didn’t feel clean just hoovered. I expected a hotel adjacent to the racecourse would be a little nicer.
- Kevin (10/5): Fantastic value for money. Easy check in and friendly staff. - Modern. Amazing tower fan in room. Comfy bed. Nothing to say
- Camplin (9/5): Pretty good - Didn’t have breakfast because of the times due to working nights, breakfast finish at 09:00 an I finished at 09:30.. apart from that all good
- Kellett (9/5): -
- Pauline (8/5): - Very comfortable bed.
Staff Very helpful Shower screen very stiff
- REFVancouver (7/5): A decent option for Newbury - The bar and restaurant are underwhelming but the space plus patio is pleasant when the sun is shining. I liked the Podium Cafe about 10 minutes away by foot and Newbury is only 20 minutes walk or a quick hop by train.
All Angels vineyard nearby does a wonderful tour & tasting.
Apart from being woken up a couple of times by a bang from a fire door, my room was quiet and comfortable. I'm not a fan of rain showers, but note that the shower is slippery. The hotel does not supply rubber mats so consider bringing one if traveling by car - 6GBP from Argos!
- Marcus (9/5): -
- Dominic (4/5): Poor - Location, comfortable bed Noise from adjoining rooms, grumpy staff, dreadful food
- harriet (5/5): - Kamer Personeel, locatie erg ingewikkeld en ver buiten centrum
- Robert (10/5): Odds on favourite - Extremely dog-friendly staff which is hugely important to us. It went a long way to offset the disappointment at a £20 pet fee. The extensive grassed areas near the large car park were also a bonus for dogs and owners.
The room was clean and well provided and the king sized bed was super comfortable. Breakfast was great. Your drinks prices are ludicrously high in the bar/restaurant. Well over £7 for a pint of beer!!
- Robert (7/5): - Price, parking and cleanliness Floors creak. Noise from room above.
- FREDERIC (3/5): Difficile d’accès - Impossible d’accéder à l’hôtel en voiture sans réservation.
Aucun panneau de signalisation pour indiquer l’accès au parking de l’hôtel.
- ALAN (6/5): Probably wouldn’t stay again - Quiet and away from town centre The room, very small and we booked due to the comment of extra large beds however ours was 2 single beds made up to look like a big double. We had a gap in between us. Checking in staff was not very welcoming and can’t see why you would put her front of house (young blonde girl)
- Charles (10/5): Best hotel in Newbury - Everything Nothing
- Steffi (7/5): -
- Peter (9/5): -
- Arlene (8/5): We found the staff very helpful and friendly. We had and evening meal and breakfast in the hotel - Room: Comfortable - a chair was provided in the room when requested
Bed: King size
Both the bedroom and shower romm spotlessly clean There was only the bed to sit on - however, a chair was provided
upon request as my husband was suffering from 3 fractured ribs
and attempting to sit on the edge of the bed caused too much
discomfort.
- David (8/5): Always a great stay at The Lodge - The Breakfasts are excellent. Worth the paying extra for the great quality. We enjoyed the friendly staff at breakfast and during our evening meals. Nothing.
- Philip (8/5): Very reasonable price with a good breakfast. - Location and price Would like that there was a luggage stand and less cushions.
The room was a reasonable size with a huge bed but no space for luggage or numerous decorative cushions. We actually placed the items by the door which was potentially dangerous.
- Williams (8/5): Nice and easy - All very good Nothing
- Kit Che Miriam (5/5): -
- Charles (7/5): Good location for the racecourse, however not the best of stays - Great location if you’re heading to the races. However, it’s not ideal for the town centre as it’s around a mile away, and taxis seemed to struggle accessing the property.
The shower was disappointing, a very small cubicle with folding doors, and the showerhead was heavily scaled up, so instead of a rainfall shower it was more of a one-sided drip than a proper shower.
- Barry Donaghy (7/5): - Comfortable bed good shower Dirty floor carpet in lift
- Sudi (8/5): - Value for money WiFi not strong for completing work. No table in the room for working
- Charles (10/5): Best hotel in Newbury - Always excited Nothing
- Esther (6/5): Races - Location Bedrooms very small and shower facilities poor.
- Lisa (6/5): Was nice - Clean and welcoming
Food was good 👍 Noise! Lots and lots of noise and shouting in the middle of the night
- Lynn (9/5): A very nice place to stay for the horse racing - Location ideal for the race meeting we attended Everything was to our liking
- Tanya (9/5): - Location was excellent for what I needed clean friendly staff
- Mistry (5/5): It was okay for a night - Good location & plenty parking spaces Room facilities very basic & poor. Would not let us check in 20 minutes early before 3pm & made us wait unnecessarily.
- mike (8/5): -
- Suzanne (10/5): Lovely day - On arrival rooms were 1st 2nd floor us thre was no meeting we were lucky to get rooms next door with our friends going into room clean everything you needed would say shower cubicle is very small so a big person would have trouble shutting the door us it’s just a quick stay it’s not a big problem but they might need a disable room tea coffee in room and peace ful nite breakfast plenty choice quick staff on ordering the breakfast Would only say shower door tight on closing
- Garry (8/5): Mostly very good - Staff were friendly and helpful. Large cafe/restaurant was excellent Rooms a little tight. Also we were accidentally overcharged for a meal. They paid the difference back but made us work for it. There was no apology for the inconvenience and they acted as if they were doing us a favour giving us back our money
- Michelle (9/5): -
- Guillaume (8/5): -
- Jacky (8/5): It was a great place for our family to meet and the staff were very helpful. - The restaurant staff were extremely helpful and, despite us being a very large group, they accommodated us well. It was good they had lifts between the floors and they did a great job giving us rooms together and my parents a room next to the lifts. The disabled parking bay was difficult to see and not next to the door. A large hotel vehicle was parked right next to it, so blocking the way to the door. The late afternoon sun shone directly into the restaurant and there are no blinds. That made some seating positions very unconfortable.
- Sandra (9/5): Great value for money, very clean. Everything we needed for a one night stay - Location was perfect for the race course Bar closed at 11pm on a Saturday night
- Heather (10/5): The Lodge - Bedroom was clean and easy to get to. Shower was clean and hot. Bed was super comfy and slept nicely. Heating can stay on all night though room heats up pretty quickly, the window opens quite wide so that's good. It was really quiet most the evening and especially through the night, however I was visiting out of peak season. Breakfast was amazing and freshly cooked. Haven't been many places where the menu is clean either so pretty impressed all round. Staff have been polite, helpful and kind. I did stay with my two dogs as went to the dog show at Newbury Showground and had to pay £20 extra for each.

- Yvonne (7/5): Friendly, clean, great dinner in quiet location. - The check in was easy, in a lovely spacious reception. The food in the cafe for dinner was ample and delicious and the seating was very comfortable. When calling beforehand to ask something, the phone was answered very quickly. Large car park with loads of space. Finding the way into the hotel car park wasn't easy and required me to phone the hotel, who then gave me a code to type in to get through the barrier. The bedroom was very compact and very little room to put our bags and no chair to sit on. The shower head had seen better days (or needed a very good clean). We needed to leave at 7.30am on the weekend, which is when breakfast service starts and even though we asked in the evening if there was any way we could have breakfast baps or at least cold breakfast items and they said they would ask, none of the morning staff seemed to be aware and only offered the cereals (not much choice), porridge pots (avoid - they were cheap ones that were tasteless and very runny even with less liquid than recommended) or some very small croissants.
- Obi (10/5): -
- Norman (8/5): V comfortable, staff v good. - Dog friendly Banging of doors at 3am in the morning.
- Katarzyna (6/5): -
- GRASSET (8/5): - Bon accueil, petit-déjeuner copieux
- Norman (9/5): - Quiet location easily found. Very helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Good choices for breakfast. Unfortunately at 2:40am we were awoken by guests talking loudly in the corridor outside our room - not your fault.
- Adam (5/5): -
- Robmack1963 (10/5): - Staff were excellent and allowed me to store my motorcycle in a locked area, I am always very grateful for that as it is a worry if it is sitting outside with all of my gear. There was nothing i didn't like.
- mike (8/5): -
- Eoin McCormick (8/5): Staff were sensational! I'd absolutely return there when I visit Newbury next 😄 - Staff were brilliant and very friendly The room was a bit unclean, but not awful
- Norman (8/5): Definitely will stay again - Welcoming, friendly staff Clean and professional
- Chloe (7/5): - Clean, well presented and amazing staff
- Alex (4/5): Safety concerns and not suitable for working away. No desk or chair in room. Bed was comfy - It was a roof over my head and a pillow to put my head down on My room door needed to be slammed to close. It looked like someone had tried to previously break in. The latch was bent and didn’t soft-close.
It is unfit for guests who are working away. The room does not have a chair, a desk/ dressing table. Rooms are not equipped with, for example, hair dryer, iron etc.
other than a bed and bathroom I really have little to share about the hotel rooms. Very disappointing and overpriced in my opinion
- Graeme (9/5): - Good breakfast and comfortable room
- Charles (10/5): Excellent hotel in excellent setting - Lovely, convenient setting and superb staff No proper mirror in bedroom, only mirror in bathroom
- george (1/5): - Check in The food was inedible ie microwaved burger like a block of wood
The sheet on the bed was to small for the bed
The loo would not flush properly
The room was to small for the size of the bed definitely not worth £169.00
- Martin (8/5): - The brakefast was very good. A bit on the pricey side.
- HARRY (6/5): - The location was convenient and overall it was a good stay. The food and service was of a good quality and the breakfast finished the stay off on a high There was a slight wait on arrival to check in, however, the check in process was prompt and hassle free. Unfortunately, the bed was very uncomfortable, due to it being 2 single beds pushed together, which meant a gap formed, which led to a disrupted sleep which was a shame.
- Martin (10/5): quality - Excellent experience and the staff were amazing. great value for money. everything
- Catherine (9/5): Very comfortable and lovely staff - Staff were all lovely and helpful and the hoyel was perfectly situated and quiet My only negative was the he shower was very high up as i am quite short 😁and maybe a hand held as alternative would have been helpful when washing hair.
I fid find the life a little grubby in the metal areas they just needed a better clean as rest of hotel was pleasant
- shepstone (7/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): -
- S (8/5): -
- stephen (7/5): not bad - nice clean room breakfast very good we had no hot water
- Daniel (8/5): -
- Mark (8/5): Very good will stay again - Location was excellent The only area you could improve is the food in the evening which was limited.
- Tibor (10/5): -

- Lucy (5/5): Okay but room 5 needs to be sorted and what’s the point pf paying for late checkout - The easiness of breakfast and dinner only being downstairs , and we went to the races both days so that only being across the road is great , we did the same last year so decided to come again We stayed last year and thought it was great , however we stayed in room 5 and paid for late check out until 1. Every time anyone opened/closed their door or the door to downstairs our door would make a noise as it wasn’t flush . Which you can imagine was very annoying . The day of check out we paid for checkout to be extended until 1 , but the whole time all you can hear is the cleaners outside , and then at 11:03 there was a knock at the door asking why we hadn’t left , and that no one had told them we hadn’t PAID £20 more to stay until 1 . Because of this we both felt annoyed and the noise was too much that we got ready and left by 12 . I’m not sure if it was just that room which is noisy because it’s by the door to the stairs , and somethings wrong with the door that it’s not tight enough . But because of this we don’t sleep well at all and also felt like everyone could hear us because we could hear everyone else .
- Rob (10/5): Excellent - The staff were fabulous during our stay especially with Rosy our Springer 😀
- Marjorie (10/5): -
- Mongezi (8/5): Clean, excellent place, not noisy - Spacious parking place, and seemingly very safe and secure Though google directions did not exactly lead to the location, some pointers were provided
- Peter (9/5): Nice place to stay for a short visit - Easy to find, comfy bed and decent shower Door rattled every time someone opened the door to the stairs.
- Keiran (7/5): -
- Ryan (4/5): Wouldn't stay again, better and cheaper options in Newbury. - Location was good as I had a meeting there the following day. The strong cigarette smell in the room. Bathroom was dated and not clean. The loud banging doors all night. The kitchen closed early (It was however, a Monday night).
- Aston (9/5): -
- Georgina (10/5): - They were accommodating, late check out, changed our room as there was a stain on the bedding. Really pleasant hotel Nothing
- Rejoyce (8/5): I booked my stay last minute, checked in late, all was good - Great for a night stay. The room I was initially in had no shower gel, but I was offered a different room, with a better view, bonus! Nothing to dislike, but under the bed hadn’t been vacuumed for a while as there was rubbish I discovered when I unintentionally moved the bed.
- Darren (7/5): Good enough - Room had a disabled bathroom which can be a bit tricky to use as an able bodied person. Water was warm but not hot evening and morning. Lack of hot water
- Jeannette (9/5): - clean tidy size is compact no chair to sit on
- Racz (9/5): -
- Gary (8/5): Good stay, shame about the room - Location and staff friendliness We were both in a disabled room!
- Jo (8/5): -
