• kathrynhQ7366EQ (10/5): A great couples getaway - Loved this stay. Location is a bit north of the main drag but the walking was good for us - the trolley and Lyft are also options. We had the La Vue room and it was just beautiful. The hotel ground are lovely day and night, staff is attentive and helpful. We enjoyed there being no TV, just a record player with a few great options for music. Only downside is somewhat low water pressure and the hot water doesn’t last long. Would still come back.

• VeronnieL (10/5): Peace and beauty in LB - Great improvements on the old historic LB Motor Inn, same good vibe, still magical, still steps to one of the best swimming beaches in LB. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, ( love the turntable and vinyl) the grounds are lovely and peaceful, the common living room is very inviting, and the staff very accommodating. The little bar is perfect for a midday cold beer or a late night cap. Joaquin is truly a car-free destination; walk to Heisler Park, into town and to several restaurants, such as my favorite, Royal Hawaiian! And Mercados for fab takeout lunch is right across the street.
• N4077FHgracel (10/5): Amazing boutique hotel - We loved our time at Hotel Joaquin! We stayed in the Soleil room and it was lovely. Great views and it felt extremely private and about as quiet as could be for a small boutique hotel where everything is close by. The lobby and outdoor hangout area next to it was great and they have a great selection of games. Drink/cocktail/NA selection was awesome. Pool is so lovely and peaceful. Overall we had a wonderful relaxing time and would definitely return! A hidden gem with a perfect location- still within walking distance to restaurants and shops but away from the business of the main streets.
• Loretta (2/5): Overpriced, Incredibly disappointed and actually in shock at the price verses the zero service - For $465 for one nights stay this was the worst value hotel I think I have ever stayed in. There are no facilities, not even a bottle of water in the rooms. the toilet was broken which I ended up fixing myself having to take the top off the toilet top and reattach the plumping as there was no-one on duty to help, I hung my towel on the hook in the bathroom which fell off the wall. To take a bath and use soap you have to step out the bath to reach the attached shower gel on the opposite side of bathroom wall. On the site by other guest it said amazing coffee was delivered to our room,, and breakfast was lovely. I booked this place for my birthday as a special treat for my partner and I. However, we got there to be told there is. no breakfast only drip coffee in the common area in the mornings. No food is served on the premises, no staff customer care, no facilities and not even a bottle of water. There are no TV's or phones in the room so if anything isn't working it's on you to sort out. All in all I would say this place should be advistised as a room to rent nothing more as there is nothing more offered. A very very expensive experience. I have travelled the world and I don't think I've ever given a bad review before but this place was next level bad. the bed mattress was so soft I left next day with back pains. I would say save your money and give this very overpriced place a miss. I have given my reasons above

We reserved a large block of rooms and everyone enjoyed their stay. The dinner party was catered and the food was excellent. It was raining and the dinner had to be moved 'inside' to what is the lobby area. There were other hotel guests who were most gracious while we had our meal in the space. Location is ideal for walking and dining opportunities are near by. The hotel does not serve breakfast or other meals. It does have a bar and coffee available in the am.

• Maik (8/5): A charming, intimate boutique hotel with an irresistible retro vibe and perfect Laguna Beach spot. - We absolutely loved the location and overall vibe of Hotel Joaquin—it's the perfect spot in Laguna Beach with that dreamy, retro-cool charm that makes you feel relaxed and transported. The hotel feels cozy and intimate, like a stylish hideaway from the past. Best of all, it's incredibly walkable: just steps to beautiful Shaw's Cove beach for snorkeling or relaxing, easy hikes in the nearby hills, or strolls into town. This is exactly the kind of place we'd want to retire to—pure Laguna magic! To be fully transparent, there were a couple of small issues during our stay: the WiFi in the room was quite unreliable (working only about 20% of the time), which was inconvenient given the poor cell service in the area. Also, the bathroom light switch wasn't functioning, so the light stayed on and we had to keep the door closed at night. These were minor hiccups in an otherwise wonderful experience, but worth mentioning for anyone considering a stay.

Steps from Shaw's cove which is a stunning beach. Breakfast was outstanding. (how do you get the eggs to taste so good?) Stayed in room Ciel with stunning ocean views. Used the heated pool and a couple beach toys. Very friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay - we will be back! (Cant remember the blond guys name at the bar/breakfast but he was delightful- really friendly)

• 112niag (10/5): The perfect getaway - The most relaxing, restorative stay! Hotel Joaquin is the ultimate hidden gem. From the second you walk in the door, it oozes style and relaxation. Our room was clean, chic, and peaceful. The king bed was so comfortable and I appreciated all the little touches like coffee delivered to your door in the morning, a stocked beach bag, and a book to read! The decor is beautiful and I loved that technology is hidden, it felt like stepping back in time in the best way. I already miss flipping through their hundreds of records and putting one on while enjoying a cup of tea or glass of wine. The pool feels like a secret hideaway, you forget you’re just off of PCH. One of the days, I didn’t even leave the hotel at all because I was enjoying it too much. When you do want to leave though, so much is within walking distance—Shaw’s Cove (arguably one of the best beaches in CA), Jedidiah Coffee, Urth Cafe, tons of galleries. We took the trolley into downtown and it was so easy and fun to get around. The food was great, especially for breakfast which is FREE with your reservation. It wasn’t your typical continental breakfast either, they have French toast, eggs and bacon (with a side of kale and potatoes!), and a raw granola dish. Everything was so fresh and delicious, I was very impressed. The staff was wonderful, they went out of their way to accommodate me and my infant and made us feel so welcome. I also loved that they had daily activities, we did the yoga class on the lawn and it was exactly what I needed! I’m actually devastated to not still be there but I will ABSOLUTELY be back. I’ve stayed at nearly every hotel in Laguna and this is my new favorite

• Traveling_American28 (10/5): Amenities Aplenty - Hotel Joaquin was the perfect Laguna retreat. I went with friends and while the property is rather small (only 22 rooms total), the amenities are not lacking and the staff is beyond friendly (shoutout to Matt and Jules). The complimentary breakfast is great. Hot coffee/tea are provided to your room before you even wake up which was incredible. The staff greats you with an amazing cocktail/mocktail at check-in and make sure you have everything for the perfect stay. Jules even made sure to mention the modifications I requested during booking and ensured they happened. The access to the beach brings you to a secluded cove where you can scuba, snorkel, paddleboard, or sit. On Sunday, they provided a complimentary yoga session in the courtyard which was the perfect way to relax before checking out. We will definitely be going back ASAP!
• akE8889LS (6/5): Very nice, but sooooo overpriced - At its most overpriced iteration, we could see Hotel Joaquin charging 400/night for what it offers. Many comforts are limited by what it is: a remodeled motel on a loud busy road, where none of the rooms have any privacy (they all face inwards), and the sound of cars is constantly heard. However, it could make up by offering impeccable and generous service. For 900/night (including taxes and fees), I would hope for special touches, like offering the minibar snacks free of charge. Instead, they are very stingy: even a side of bread or avocado at breakfast requires you pay extra. The staff are young and friendly, but overly informal (especially for this price range) and seem to lack formal hospitality training. To us, the hotel felt like a bit of a scam. All that said: the decoration is beautiful, the bed and pillows are very comfortable, and they have a special thing going on with the morning coffee (they drop it off at your room door before you wake up).
• johnsI3293AP (10/5): Perfect Spot in Laguna for Anyone Who Needs a Reset - Hotel Joaquin feels like a HIDDEN GEM in Laguna. It is boutique in size but still has real amenities like a kitchen, bar, complimentary breakfast, and free COFFEE delivered to your room each morning. The POOL is the perfect place to relax and unwind, no fighting for loungers, and the whole place has a laid back, unplugged feel. Literally since there are no TVs on property, but plenty of records. LOCATION is the best part. This end of Laguna feels more private and clean, with easy access to some of the best beaches: Shaws Cove, Crescent Bay, and Picnic Cove. Across the street you have Moon Goat Coffee with great decaf and matcha and Mercado Laguna, a boutique grocer where you should try the salads. Walk a little further and there is Pavilions for full groceries. You can also walk to restaurants, Heisler Park, and even Main Beach. I skipped renting a car and took a car service from LAX which was about an hour in off peak times. It was the right call. You do not need a car here, but if you bring one parking is free. The ROOMS are stylish and thoughtful. I stayed in La Lune, a top floor corner room that faces the road. The street noise did not bother me, although one night a group was loud since the hallway connects to the lobby. The bed is on the firm side of medium and very comfortable. I liked the record player and vinyls in the room. There is no TV, which I think is about keeping the vibe quiet as much as it is about unplugging. FOOD AND DRINKS are simple but good. Breakfast is complimentary, and the kitchen seems to only run for that and light poolside bites at lunch. The welcome cocktail was solid, and everything we had was good. For couples, it is hard to beat. WE ALSO CONSIDERED Casa Loma, Petit Pali, Surf and Sand, and Casa Laguna, but we were glad we picked Joaquin. It just feels right for a getaway, intimate, stylish, and easy. Choosing a ROOM is the hardest part. We liked La Lune for its top floor corner layout with no one above. Next time we might try Perche, Shaws, Auric, or La Vue. But honestly, the best value might be La Lune or Cress. Yes, they face the road, but it was totally fine. Plus there are less expensive so if you’re budget minded La Lune is the one. Hotel Joaquin is stylish, small, and easygoing with the best location in Laguna. You get free breakfast, coffee at your door, and a pool to relax by. Rooms are thoughtful, beds are great, and the whole property feels designed for couples to unplug and enjoy the beach town without needing a car. So yeah… It’s tough to really capture what makes special places special. I guess that’s the best part about travelling is those times when things just seem to really hit, and this was one of those times. it’s a PERFECT PLACE FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A RESET.

Advertised as adults only but young kids were staying which meant shouting in the pool for hours - they literally cleared all other guests from the pool area. The staff are so friendly and have great suggestions. The breakfast and lunch are excellent (I love having the morning coffee delivered to my room!). They often have music and movies in the evening. Also the location is great. It is within walking distance to the beach, many restaurants as well as downtown Laguna. The vibe is much more intimate and peaceful than larger hotels in the area.

From the moment we arrived until our last goodbye, we were consistently met with warm beaming smiles and the BEST care from the entire staff! As soon as we checked in, we were offered The Greeter, which is one of Hotel Joaquin’s signature drinks…And truly one of the tastiest cocktails ever made! It was so good we couldn’t resist ordering one every single day! The property is lush and beautiful with gorgeous views of the Ocean, which is just a short 3-minute walk from Shaw’s Cove. Our room was delightful and very comfortably spacious for two eclectic sisters. We quickly unpacked and headed to the pool after our drive to cool off, where we interestingly ended up spending the better part of our three luxurious days! Although the beach is my favorite place on Earth, I found it almost impossibly hard to leave the shade and comfort of the wonderful daybeds and the perfect temperature of the salt water pool. We found the other guests to be very friendly and interesting to converse with. The food we ordered poolside for lunch was scrumptious! And the complimentary breakfast each morning the best!!! We caught a movie on the lawn the first night which was fun & enjoyable. One of the things I love the most about this hotel is that there are no TVs in the rooms, only record players, so that you don’t hear that incessant annoying noise coming from other rooms like at other places, especially at bedtime, only perhaps a little music in the distance. I slept better than I have in months with the fresh ocean breeze, nice overhead fan, super comfy bed & wonderful pillows! Hotel Joaquin exceeded my expectations! And I truly can’t wait to return ♥️

The pool area and proximity to the beach (1 block) made this the perfect weekend getaway. The staff was welcoming and the bar/restaurant made it easy to stay on site for breakfast & lunch as well as a nightcap, just steps from our room. We'll be back soon.

• pamelacU6443EA (8/5): Hotel Joaquin - We just stayed at Hotel Joaquin, a lovely sweet Boutique hotel, with a wonderful relaxing pool area & outdoor patio for breakfast & lunch. The staff is A+, so friendly & helpful. The rooms are lil tiny but perfect with a view from above. And we loved having access to great albums. To listen to with the sound of the Ocean. It was recommended to pay lil extra to book room away from PCH, and def worth it! Hotel Joaquin is a small Oasis in a great location, steps away from Beach access at Shaws Cove & gorgeous Divers Cove beach which are all nearby and close to the Heisler Park walk, such a stunning area, Dont miss Crystal Cove if you want larger Beach access so beautiful and 10 minute drive. We loved our room with a view at this great Boutique Hotel in Laguna Beach. Lastly its not far from Main Beach which was crazy packed and could be avoided if looking for calm and beauty! • Charles (10/5): Relaxing, wonder views and close to the ocean with excellent staff and attention to detail - Hotel Joaquin is part of a group of boutique hotels. They have an amazing attention to detail, coffee and tea brought to your room hung on a hook by your door in a thermos. Binoculars left so you can look at the ocean, record players in each room, unique items that make it feel special. The property is small but quaint and the staff is absolutely amazing. You almost feel like you are staying with friends that have a house on the beach.
• estherrZ3704TG (8/5): Great hotel & Amazing breakfast - Hotel Joaquin is beautiful and I plan to come back again with my family and small dog! The highlights are the interior design, breakfast (reaaaallly impressively good), calm live guitar music during the late afternoon and super close proximity to Shaw's Cove, which looks further away on Google maps than in actuality. The staff was super friendly and the general manager super accommodating with my reservation when a family emergency came up. Some of the reviews mention concerns with cleaniness and amount of light in the room. Our hotel room (Motu) was very clean and I didn't have any trouble with the amount of light in the room (however, i wasn't working, i was mostly reading a book or on my ipad). Motu was kind of loud due to it's proximity to the bar and dining tables outside. My note to management would be to stop the bar music around 9pm instead of 10pm to accommodate folks (me!) visiting from the East Coast and to also limit the usage of the tables right outside Motu by 9pm. A couple was talking, playing board games on a table right outside our window until around 11:30pm and I felt like this could have been easily avoided with a cute sign from management telling folks that these tables have quiet hours due to the proximity to resting guests. The noise in Motu at night may not be a problem however if you're a night owl. Overall, I really want to highlight how great the hotel and staff are and I hope to come back repeatedly over the years.

From our check in with Claudia who was so friendly, to our breakfast and front desk needs with Jack who was incredibly warm and kind, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home. My wife and I also appreciated all the unique and special details in the lobby, the outdoor areas, and in our room. The delicious breakfast in the morning, a warm pool, and the record player in the room were so perfect for us. We will definitely stay at Hotel Joaquin again.

• Curious580266 (10/5): Surf, Sun and Simplicity in Laguna Beach - The loveliest petite hotel for a solo reset. Nestled along a quiet stretch of PCH and a short walk to the beaches of Laguna, Hotel Joaquin was the perfect place for a solo reset. Although most of the other guests were couples, I had a wonderful time as a solo traveler. The rooms are decorated in retro beach vibes and are free of phones and televisions. It was equipped with a record player and a classic selection of vinyl records; which I absolutely loved and am now quite hooked on the vintage sound. Beach basket and towels are provided. Parking is limited; however, once you find a spot, the beach, shopping, restaurants and the cliff walk are all walking distance. Full of unique touches that make the property so special. A thermos of coffee and creamer is placed outside your door each morning, complimentary breakfast is delicious, and the staff are so engaging and helpful. The views from the lobby bar are stunning as well as the craft cocktails. I absolutely loved it and would love to visit the other hotel properties in Palm Springs and Big Sky!

• 925debyj (6/5): Excited to stay, but was sadly disappointed - The three best things were Devin who was very friendly and as accommodating as he could be, the pool was great and peaceful, and the location was wonderfully walkable to the different beaches. The three super disappointing things were the rest of the staff, their lack of enthusiasm for us as their guests can’t be overstated. Our room was so small it was comical. And the breakfast was lack luster. We were only one of four guest rooms that were filled. So it wasn’t like they were swamped and at capacity. Wishing I wasn’t writing this review but there it is.
• Melissa (8/5): - Beautiful and clean property and overall pretty good experience for a couple of nights. Our mattress was not very comfortable and likely needed to be replaced. It dipped in some parts. The pool was cold and definitely was not at 90 (nor even 80 or 70 degrees) temperature as advertised. More likely the pool temperature was in the 60s. Short walk to lovely Shaw’s Cove but there are limited spots to set your things up and it was very crowded.

It’s super clean, peaceful, the pool is awesome, view is great, decor is INCREDIBLE, loved the record player and LPs in the room. Love the movies, the taffy in the jars, the staff are so sweet, positive and lovely. The food is also really great. The only thing is check in is at 4pm which is a little late IMO.

• Ali (7/5): Beautiful with street noise and lapses in hospitality - Beautiful looking property. Lovely rooms. Record players in the rooms and coffee in the morning were wonderful. Welcome cocktail was a treat! Room was always beautifully clean. The noise from the main road was intense. Better glazing in the street adjacent windows is definitely needed. We wanted to love the place but sometimes it felt a little faulty towers. Breakfast ran out of key items (eg toast or bacon) on 2 of the 3 mornings we were there and there are only 3 dishes on the breakfast menu to plan for! The place was used for a photo shoot with about 7 people involved. They left all their gear, and mess in the middle of the property from breakfast time until late and made us feel in the way. Loud and lengthy tours at the pool by prospective wedding hirers did not respect current guests who were silently relaxing by the pool and had to listen to 10 minute spiel on repeat. While a couple of staff members were really great (at least two of the bartenders were so lovely and great at their job) some staff (especially at breakfast) seemed totally overwhelmed and very few seemed to know much about hospitality. If this was a cheap stay without a resort fee, all this would be par for the course, but it is pricey. I’d suggest dropping the resort fee and cutting the price by $100 a night or upping the service level and glazing.

• Z8945PQlaurenc (6/5): Ideal location - Positives: Cute hotel and in an ideal location (a 5 minute walk to the beach). They also have a great breakfast in the morning and a clean pool area. Negatives: Staff service level was pretty minimal. I chose this hotel because it was advertised on the website they help you setup chairs and umbrellas at the beach. With two toddlers I thought this would make the beach experience so much easier. But I was told by the front desk they couldn't help. The hotel was also not family friendly. I missed this indication on the website (but I thought someone might mention it to me when I called in advance to ask if I booked a big enough room for two toddlers, and then again when I called to ask about pack and plays). Overall, I would recommend this hotel to couples looking for a laid-back getaway in a great location, especially if minimal staff interaction is preferred.

• Prof. (6/5): Sweet Hotel but not worth the costly price - Very nice and helpful, friendly staff. The property is well kept and offers sweet, charming details, like an old fashioned record player in the room. Fresh coffee and milk are being delivered to your room door in the morning. Attentive details, that make the hotel unique. Rooms are rather small, we stayed for one night only, so it didn´t really matter but if we had planned this as a vacation, I would have not appreciated it at all. Location of the hotel is right by the main road, still the views of the beach are pretty, but even with all windows closed traffic is definitely disturbing as it can be heard all night and it affects a good night´s sleep. Considering the price we would have expected more (or better less noise...)

The French toast for breakfast was amazing. But the house was pretty noisy. You could hear the street the whole night trough. And there were a lot of fruit flies in the bathroom. The pool was dirty, there has been a lot of sand in there. Could be a great hotel, but just not worth the money in my opinion.

As opposed to the impression it is not on the beach and you dont even see the beach. Some rooms are too small and have a big column in the middle to the point that you cannot even sit comfortably unless you sit on the bed and there is no place for luggage. Aircondition did not work in two rooms that we used . Dimming of the light did not work. Breakfast is included but with no bread and if you want bread you pay 2 $/slice!
• Q7891NJjons (8/5): Good, could be great. - My wife and I used to celebrate our anniversary at the Montage in Laguna, but I was looking for something a little different. THE GOOD: Small, good service (Kayla was exceptional), and well-designed. Included breakfast and coffee delivery were really good and general speaking it had a good vibe. Easy parking. THE LESS-GOOD: Our room ("La Vue") was nice, albeit a little small (but that's kinda part of the charm). But the shower had significant mildew in the grouting and the water from the bathroom sink had a significant sulphur smell. Staff is present -- but minimal, so generally occupied by someone or something else. This is a good, design-y hotel with a cool vibe -- but maintenance and staffing are not where they should be given the price and what's advertised.

Large gap under the entry door. Almost no lighting in the main room. Screen on window bowed and large gap to outside. Very expensive bar (over $20 for a small pour of cheap wine). There is some serious plumbing problem too. It randomly sounds like an elephant is in the courtyard, super loud and I’m half deaf. There must be a faulty flow valve in main supply, or something. No TV. No desk. No iron/board. I guess I’m not chill enough for this hotel. Oh, and the back patio door doesn’t securely close.

I was only able to get a similar room one day after one day of stay due to them being sold out. However, the staff was very apologetic and they offered compensation for it. Overall, an amazing hotel with amazing views. Great location. Apart from the room hiccup, I had a great time staying at this hotel

The room wasn’t cleaned (used qtips, hair on the floor, dirty cups, and the fan caked with dust). The a/c didn’t work and the was no hand soap. We checked out early.
• Christa (9/5): Gorgeous property, extremely relaxing, big bucks - The grounds are beautiful and quiet. Even with rooms somewhat filled, it did not feel like a crowded hotel. Our room La Vue had a stunning oceanview and was setup in a way to maximize enjoyment of the view. We loved putting on a record (such a fun touch) and watching the sunset with a delicious cocktail from the cozy bar we brought to our room from the common area lounge. The lounge and pool are fantastic and we loved having a delicious breakfast every morning and a drink at in the afternoon or at night in these spaces. Everything is beautiful decorated and manicured. Staff was super friendly and attentive. It is crazy expensive for a weekend stay. The grounds and rooms and staff are truly exceptional and lovely. But for almost $600 you expect extreme luxury. The bed wasn't that comfortable, the shower had bad water pressure, and there was a slight odor in the bathroom from what I assume is just old pipes. I think the price point would be fairer at $400. Maybe even $350. I know it's an expensive town, but paying $1,300 for two nights is pretty excessive, even if they were two great nights. I probably wouldn't come back unless the price was closer to $400.

• Dreamer15018012355 (10/5): Morning Coffee! - What a fabulous establishment! I was there for some desperately needed R&R, and it totally fit the bill. My room was super comfortable and had an ocean view with a lovely big bathtub. The pool was awesome and the beach was only a block away. One of the most awesome features was the morning coffee left at your door, for whenever you woke up. The staff and the service were also first-class. They took great care of me. I will definitely be going back.
• Shijia (10/5): Absolutely wonderful and a must stay in Laguna - The location is in a nice spot above Laguna Downtown, which gives the perfect excuse to walk down along the trail beside the beach and enjoy the view. It is close to Shaw's Cove, so a view is available from the hotel. A record player is available in the room and I love the style of the hotel. It is boutique, earthy, and in a nature ambient. Love every single design element in its style and enjoyed a wonderful stay. The staff is chill and helpful. They provided me with a welcome cocktail and it is tasty. It comes with breakfast in the morning, and it is absolutely delicious. There is nothing I don't like. Can't think of any

The rooms were clean, modern and loved that there was no TV so you could decompress and truly enjoyed listening to the albums they had I the rooms. The pool area was beautiful and relaxing The touch of the daily coffee was nice too. The lighting switches in the rooms were a bit confusing and had to ask for clear towels daily.

• caryne2017 (4/5): High expectations, unmet - The Joaquin was an old motor lodge and honestly, didn't feel like it has been structurally much improved. We stayed in Thalia which I am thinking is their least desirable room since if felt like we were sleeping on the PCH and if that noise wasn't bothersome enough, some sound coming from the heating/AC unit overhead was terribly annoying. We were told it's an old building. Added to that was the fact they seemed to be having problems with leaks, again, we were told it was an old building! I suppose having record players in the room is an attempt to cash in on the retro-motor lodge vibe, but honestly, using that space for a place to put luggage really would have made more sense, especially since the room was rather small. The common areas, including the pool were really lovely, and the breakfast that was included was a nice touch. You really can't beat the location. The hotel staff, when someone was around, were pleasant but if you are looking for a service-oriented experience, this might not be the place.
