Guest Reviews
- SAndZon (8/5): - Very clean rooms and welcoming staff. We prefer real coffee in the morning.
- Henry (1/5): The worst night I have ever spent anywhere except when I was in Afghanistan, but that was a war zone! - If I am honest, I didn't like a great deal about the property. It looked ok on Booking.com but was unfortunately a terrible experience once we arrived. The location in town is terrible, it right on the main road which the locals treat like a race track at night, it was like a scene from the movie 'Fast and Furious', revving engines, screeching tyres, and street racers down the strip.
There was also quite a lot of damp around the property and the bathrooms in particular were quite run down, not terrible by any stretch, just paper stuffed into window gaps, cracked toilets, mould, low hot water temp and pressure.
The worst element though was that they have longer term guests, I was told they were engineers from the solar farm. They were drunk, very loud until we confronted them at 03:30, hid the key from the external doors so the building stayed insecure throughout the night, and were just generally unpleasant. The manager said they had many complaints about them but I guess they bring a steady income for the guest house.
It's a shame as we will NEVER return and I recommend anyone (especially if you have kids like we did) stay well away from this place.

- Luca (10/5): Lovely! Easy check-in and check out, with beautiful rooms. - We have had a number of wonderful stays here, and this is our go to location during our travels to the Cape. The rooms are pristine, and the staff are incredibly hospitable. Diane is lovely, and accommodating! Would highly recommend the Karoo Country House.

- Elvira (8/5): Overall great stay!Staff very friendly and helpful. - Bed and linen was excellent very specious room!Bathroom also fantastic!Room has very luxurious feel but somehow not enough factional.Mirror missing in the room. Not enough chairs or sofa in the room.Maybe just ottoman.
Did not like towels.Needs a bit of softening đ
- Van Nugteren (10/5): - I was given a choice between two rooms.
- Webb (10/5): exceptional in every way - The best B&B i have ever stayed at.
It is exceptional in every way.
The lady that helped us at reception and breakfast deserves a mention, she was polite and very helpful nothing
- Linda (9/5): Great stay - Our room was lovely, the staff friendly and we enjoyed a delicious breakfast! De Aar as a town is rather dull and neglected!
- Wilcocks (10/5): -
- Rademan (10/5): We had a lovely overnight stay. - The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. The aesthetic was also nice and refreshing, and everything was clean and neat. The shower heads were also really nice. Overall, really happy.
- Seth (2/5): - Hot water⌠genuinely not much to like when you arrive to a room that is a lot smaller than you anticipate based in pictures and it smells of smoke. Location is on the main road which is noisy. Room was next to main house of the BnB. And is very small.
Room smelled of cigarettes and the bed itself had sand on it so.. wasnât cleaned properly. Apparently the cleaner had an emergency. Overall was the worst place weâve stayed in all our years of travelling! Couldnât sleep at all.
We woke up and tried to be positive and have the breakfast before leaving which wasnât great, no filter coffee, yoghurt was off and the bread stale. Nevertheless we tried the omelette as we had paid R1300 for the night which incl breakfast.
We managed to get to Bloemfontein but it was a struggle as both my wife and I felt unwell and given that we were fine before breakfast can only assume it had something to do with the food.
Staff were friendly and tried to accommodate us and even tried to remove the smell of cigarettes in the room but it didnât work.
Unfortunately would not recommend this place/room!

We really enjoyed our time, and management was really good to my family. The owner is always on standby to sort out any misunderstandings. There was a small misunderstanding with regards to the room and bed size. But the Owner of Karoo Country House was so generous to give us a full refund.

We had to wait ten minutes for other guests to move their vehicle before we could leave. It would not stop us from staying there again. just a minor inconvenience.
