• CasSwart (10/5): Hidden Gem of Swellendam - Arumvale has been our favourite place to relax, unwind and reconnect as a family for the last 6 years. George is always a warm welcome as if you visit special family you have not seen for awhile, their beautiful suites all have an incredible view and are fully equipped with everything you need. We have stayed in 3 various units and they all have a special something they offer. Uniquely beautiful and special in their own way. The suites have all been created to give you the best view and surroundings of the Hermitage Valley surrounding it. Sitting on the porch with your morning coffee, watching the pigs, cows and horses as well as sunset braais with the gorgeous mountain wrapping around us is just enchanting. The property is also bursting with fresh produce and chickens, we fetch fresh eggs in the mornings, pick lemons, smells the fresh herbs and admire the seasonal veg Bev is growing that time of the year. The staff are always so warm and friendly, coming in each day to freshen up and lighten the load of daily chores so we can enjoy our stay to the fullest. The small thoughtful items for us to settle in like a jug of milk is always such a nice touch especially when we arrive later in the evening. Electric blankets on the beds for the winter times. The cute fireplaces in every unit... you can tell this place leaves nothing amiss. We love Arumvale and will be back to spend many more family days together there. • 747catherine (10/5): Just wow!!! - We had the most wonderful stay, the location is stunning, waking up to the view of horse and the mountains. And even though the weather was not great, the inside fireplace is where it all happened, relaxed, played games and dinned. The unit was clean with a very comfortable old country home style - which what I loved. I love trail running, which was perfect as we were close to the mountains and dams, and even though I ran alone as a female, I felt extremely safe. I will recommend this place to any body
• Connector160167 (10/5): Dream accommodation - Wonderful accommodation where we felt very comfortable from the very first second. Large living room with a cozy dining area. Well-equipped kitchen, two large bathrooms, a great upstairs with comfortable beds, and a balcony with beautiful views of the countryside. A terrace for sunbathing and a grill for spontaneous BBQs. Super friendly staff, great hosts, and an overall super-family-friendly atmosphere.

The property has everything you need, even the braai has been set up complete with charcoal and firelighters which we have forgotten! Wil definitely return for a longer stay next time. Location is great with lots to do close by.

The Country House is in an excellent locations to enjoy the nice scaped garden, the pool and the cottage. There is a lot to be discovered, all close and easy to access. We had a small cottage, cosy and well done, all amenities were good, it was feeling like home from the very first moment. Recommended for anyone looking for a cottage in a quiet location with stunning views onto the montains.

It was both spacious and clean and the quality of the furnishings and decor are of a good standard. The room overlooked a paddock with horses and pigs with a view of the mountain beyond. The room had a lovely terrace with a comfy sofa to enjoy the view and tranquillity

Amazing and attentive hosts & staff (e.g. grill was filled with charcoal and grill lighter and cleaned & refilled automatically). Loved the garden (very well kept!) and of course the pool (small but perfect for us with smaller children). The kids loved the "house dog" Lilly who was very friendly and loved to cuddle :-)

Owner always around and very friendly and helpful. Our unit was serviced every day. A salt water pool in the beautiful garden with lots of trees and lawn area, is a plus.
• Deblaujess (10/5): Delightful - We stayed at Arumvale for 3 nights in November and what a pleasure it was. We had a gorgeous self contained place to stay, with views over the farmland and hills. It had everything we needed and more! The owners lovely dog would pop in for a quick cuddle. The hens would wander by. And the bird life left us wanting more, we loved it! Everything was beautifully clean and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. Our Braai was left cleaned and ready to go every day. We didn’t do much while we were here as we felt we didn’t need to. Just sitting on our terrace soaking up the sun, listening to the birds and enjoying the odd glass of wine was a perfect way to spend our time here. We wandered through the gardens and in the lanes around Arumvale and felt utterly relaxed and refreshed. Thank you George and your amazing Arumvale team!

• Resort34044699056 (8/5): Adequate and Different - We stayed here on the garden route stop over. This is a charming location in a very quiet spot with very adequate rooms and facilities. The check-in and check out at the hotel was very efficient and speedy. It may not have all the five star creature comforts, but it makes up for it in the unusual quirky location sleeping in the countryside.

Wir haben keine großen Ansprüche und so war das in punkto Sauberkeit halbwegs in Ordnung, aber doch schon an der Grenze. Der Pool ist mit Salzwasser gefühlt, zu unserem Erstaunen vielleicht sogar noch etwas salziger als das Meer. Für eine, maximal zwei Nächte ist der Platz in Ordnung.

Could help self to vegetables in the garden or even the eggs from the chickens for breakfast which was a hit with the kids. Only drawback was that it was a bit of a squash, we should have booked a third room. The rooms are called “two bedroom” but they are actually one bedroom suites with a single sofa bed in the living room so not really suitable for three adults. This is in the small print of the room description so our fault for not reading closely but I think the room title is misleading. Great for a couple or a family with one child.

• John (8/5): Good Place - We stayed for 1 night en route from East to West. The standard self catering room was good, comfortable and clean. The views from the patio were really good. If staying for more I would definitely go for one of the bigger suites. We self catered and managed but better cooking facilities are available in the bigger rooms. Good value, nice place.
• stephen (6/5): Disappointing - Stayed for two nights but should have made it one. My wife didn't want to stay on first impressions as the place needed a thorough clean. Lots of cobwebs and dirty surfaces. The outside space superior to the inside. Lovely views from the terrace but close to cow fields hence inundated with flies which plagued us. Our introduction was rushed and below the standard of others we have experienced this trip. This place was not for us.

• family (10/5): Lovely peaceful and scenic location. - We enjoyed our stay at Arumvale. George and everyone were so friendly and helpful. The accommodation is characterful and comfortable. Swellendam is a short drive away and George recommended and booked us a great restaurant on our first night - Field and Fork. We made a day trip down to De Hoop and saw whales, wildlife and the most magnificent sand dunes. A long journey on dirt roads but well worth it.

• C&K (10/5): Worth more than a one night stopover - This is a lovely property in a great setting with the mountains as a backdrop. It is an easy short drive from the centre of Swellendam so an ideal location for those like us who like to be away from the bustle but close enough to enjoy the restaurants and gift shops of the centre. The accommodation is quite basic but oozes character and charm. George is a very hands on host and ensures the braai is set up every day! We stayed for 3 nights but will stay longer next time to fully enjoy all that the area has to offer
