Guest Reviews
Amamos a nossa estadia!!!
- Neusa de Fátima (10/5): Ótimo ! - Lugar perfeito ! Adoramos
- Agnete (10/5): nice and quiet hotel in beautiful surroundings - Very good and romantic hotel just as Colonia del Sacramento itself. Smart to know some Spanish when you live here as they didn’t know English very well.
- ANDRE (6/5): Terrible experience at the check-in - We arrived on the 24th of February and were 'greeted' by an extremely rude hotel staff, who kep shouting at us for not understanding her instructions to creade a code that would unlock our keys. It was the worst check-in treatment I've ever seen. The lady did not bother to show us where our room was, or what were the breakfast hours - and was very agressive when we asked her those very basic questions. She tried to make it very clear that she was doing a favor to be speaking to us at all. Terrible, terrible experience. There are certainly better options of hotels in Colonia.
- ThirstyDuo (10/5): Great location - We had a fabulous stay at Posada del Virrey. It is located within walking distance to many restaurants. We enjoyed walking one block and seeing a gorgeous sunset. Internet was good. Breakfast was delightful. We enjoyed our stay. We would recommend the first floor with a shared patio.
- Evert279 (10/5): Perfect place, perfect location - Very Nice place to stay. Location in old historic city. Good breakfast. Nice staff. You really feel a guest, they do everything to help you. English is a little problem, but with Google translate, communication is no problem.
- ANA TAMIRIS (10/5): Incrivel - Ficamos hospedados e extremamente bem atendidos. Pousada aconchegante, limpa e cheia de charme. Voltarei outras vezes!
- BPhil2013 (4/5): Watch out, it's not a Hotel! - The place itself is nice, well the remark "room contains original stone wall" was not true, maybe some rooms have it, but mine didn't.
BUT, and there's a big but, it's not a Hotel as you might imagine. There is literally nobody to help you, apart from midday, when the check out is done.
There is no reception, the doorbell isn't working, and the phone number, well nobody was answering our calls when we stood outside, because the door wouldn't open.
Yes, you get a code to get in, because there's nobody there to let you in.
So to my opinion the price (which wasn't low) which I paid, is not worth something that works like an Airbnb, therefore my rating.
And second, I have to admit, they got a really good marketing, I found the place not as nice as on the pics, at least my room wasn't like this.
- DE (4/5): - Gorgeous from the outside, and empty from within. The check in reception was frankly terrifying - zero warm welcome or comfort, simply demanding a passport and what we wanted. Well, I'd like to check into the room I booked. After filling out the forms, she literally threw the key at us and said that there was a pool and breakfast available - no showing us where any of this was. Went to our room to discover that it was actually OUTSIDE the hotel, after the front entrance, on the street. The room itself was fabulous, that I recommend. Only if you hate sleep. Cars, motorcycles, and wild dogs mean that you will be kept up all night.
Would have loved to find the pool. Would have loved to have breakfast. Would have loved to talk to someone who cared enough to tell me about the history of this beautiful place.
This is not the place they advertise, and it's not worth the price if you want a good night's sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excelente lugar.
Muy buena ubicación.
Muy buen servicio.
- Jorge (10/5): - Muy buena atención, pulcritud, desayuno insuperable! Recomendable!!!
- Lupka (10/5): - Spacious room in a great location. Old architecture
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It is very convenient at walking distance of historic center. Our room had a nasty smell coming from the sewing system
- Nathalie (8/5): Super recomendo! - Maravilha! Hotel novinho, cama ótima,, super limpo e excelente localização .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A beautiful old building with character. Room was large and had all the necessary amenities. Breakfast was excellent. Location is very central for visiting the old town of Colonia.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Individual rooms, good location. Breakfast was good.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Sehr nettes Personal prima Betten.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bathroom was so cramped that you had to turn sideways to get around the sink.
- HRKinDC (8/5): - Being in the historic district is the way to see and experience Colonia. Some amenities could have been better (e.g. wi-fi, bathroom fixtures). Staff was great. Breakfast was awesome.
- Sarah (8/5): - Beautiful hotel with spacious rooms spotless baths. We felt like we went back in time. Breakfast was well presented and delicious.
Wi-Fi is only in the lobby area. Rooms are quiet from the street; however you could hear the TV sets and talking from other guests.
- Paul (10/5): - Awesome location, beautiful interior. Exactly what I imagined Colonia to feel like. Breakfast was well done and the staff was very accommodating
- Nora2012_12 (8/5): Great location and delicious breakfast - My second time at this lovely boutique hotel. Only two blocks from the Old Town and half a block from the river. It’s one of the best locations you can get in Colonia. Huge rooms (ask for one in the street level if you have mobility issues as there is no lift) and a great breakfast, with a huge selection of homemade cakes and pastries, bread, cheese, ham, jellies – you name it. Lovely staff, especially Mariela.
- Ditmar K (8/5): Boa localização - Bem localizado, prédio e móveis antigos. Equipe cordial.Poderia ser melhor mantido.
- charles (6/5): Surly and rude - So rude. Nothing like being handed a key by the receptionist while looking the other way. Also, we don’t pack a heavy suitcase but if a hotel is going to make you go up three flight of stairs, it would be nice to get some assistance. Oh and being told that there is only 80 liters of hot water to use for a shower...I’m not one of the actors of Orange is the New Black. Beautiful hotel, room is good though. Don’t book a hotel at all. Get in and get out.
- Thadeu (10/5): Recepction - Claudia had made everything especial and easy for us. Perfect hotel!!
- Gaston (8/5): Buena ecuación a metros del puerto deportivo - La cama comodísima. Las vistas desde la terraza muy buenas. El desayuno variado. La atención, lo justo. Muy buena ubicación.
- Trevis (10/5): Nice, comfortable hotel. Easy walk from the ferry - Just wanted to take a day off from from Buenos Aires. Colinia was just right. It was nice and quiet. Easy half mile walk from the ferry to the hotel. The property is very close to a number of restaurants and shops. The breakfast which was included was good too.
- mariacamilo43 (6/5): "too much ado without nothing" - An old building with a famous name without connnection to the Posada itself. Too expensive for a rather simple/bare, yet very clean huge room. Very good breakfast for those who love sweets as locals usually do. Nothing to add to an interesting historic town.
- Julia (10/5): Pousada aconchegante, café e cama perfeitos - Hotel MT gostoso, cama MT boa. A escada pro quarto era puxada (casa antiga). Café da manhã excelente. Internet fraca. Ainda assim ficamos MT satisfeitas.
- Renato (8/5): - Muito bom, bem
- Beatriz (10/5): Lovely hotel in historic building - Great location, clean and comfortable room, grea t breakfast.
Indico e me hospedaria novamente!
- marjo702 (6/5): Quaint - Lovely building in the Old Town. The room we stayed in was bare but adequate. There was water in the mini fridge that I incorrectly assumed were complimentary; they were part of the 'mini bar' and were added to our bill upon check out. The breakfast choices were interesting but not very appetizing. The desk staff were helpful and accommodating. I would stay there again for the location but not for comfort.
- Tim3d (10/5): Cozy hotel in a great location - Simple room, very clean. Not much in the way of amenities but great location, surrounded by restaurants and shops. Parking on the street in front. Friendly staff but very little English spoken. Breakfast was primarily (very sweet) pastries.
- K9806MOandrewm (6/5): Enjoyable - A good stay in a quaint Posada but it gives you nothing more. Room was spacious and roomy but breakfast poor. Many other options available. In a great location but could be so much better with a bit more attention to detail.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Relaxing. Charming and a good breakfast.
- G8370LBbarbarag (8/5): Nice spot - The room was very pleasant but the bathroom was poorly designed with the door partly blocking the toilet and a toilet seat that didn't fit and kept sliding around.
Also there were bottles of water in the fridge and when we checked out we were charged for them although there was no sign about this and in most places the water is free.
- Nancy (10/5): Comfortable hotel with loads of character - This is a lovely and historical hotel with lots of character. The staff are friendly and helpful. A safe area with a restaurants close by and within walking distance. If you want to explore this historical town it's a great place to stay. Feels like living in the past.
Recomendo.
- sleepybexhill (8/5): Old style hotel matching the old town - The hotel is a grand old building which has a good feel to it, but it is looking tired in places. The entrance is lovely with lots of space to relax. The open log fire in the breakfast room was a welcome sight with it being so cold during our stay. Breakfast was standard continental and tables were well presented. Our room was large and opened on to the reception area. The only windows were in the doors, but that wasn't an issue for us. Plenty of storage space, very clean and well heated. Wifi was very good in the room. Staff had little English, but we managed to get by. They were very pleasant and most helpful. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel which is in a very quiet area yet only a few minutes walk from all the sights and lots of restaurants.
- lcampoo (8/5): Nice location - It is really a nice option to stay If you want to be in old town.
Very friendly staff.
Good breakfast.
Clean and big room.
The building is a colonial house, very well preserved.
Some rooms has an original wall of stone, as well as the bathroom. Because of that we have a feeling not so good in the bathroom. But, it worths If you want to have an experience of being at old town. And definitely it was not a surprise since I knew that from the begining I have looked for the room.
Wi-Fi does not work very well, even in common areas as it would be supposed to.
I would stay there again.
- Natasha240 (6/5): Average place with great potential - This is an interesting property in a convenient location, but it needs upkeep and improvements. There were cobwebs covering the doors and many areas needed a thorough cleaning or touch up paint. When we returned from dinner one night, we found all the room keys (which you are requested to leave at the posada when you go out) spread out on the desk because the person working was not there. Maybe this is safe to do in Uruguay, but we were surprised and uneasy. The bed was comfortable, but the towels were worn out. The curtain for the glass room door was too narrow, so it allowed light from the courtyard in the room at night. WiFi was slow.
- N3624LTgaryk (8/5): nice view - We only stayed for one night, which was long enough to explore the town. We had a room upstairs, from which you could the harbour. it was clean and functional, with some nice period furniture. The shower was a great size.
Breakfast was a fairly standard buffet, in a nice little space just off the central lobby. the staff were extremely friendly, and allowed us to store our luggage after check out so that we could explore the town before our ferry.
100 yards down the street there is a little jetty which has a great view of the little harbour.
a lovely building and great lobby.
didn't manage to get wi-fi in the room, but this was available in the lobby.
- Aidan80 (8/5): Nice place - Nice building with a lot of charm. The room was a good size and vwry clean. The bed was fine a little on the soft side and the shower was good. The breakfast was pretty standard. Pretty good over all.
- sbvaughan (6/5): Rustic and simple - perfect for short stays - The hotel building itself is beautiful and the lobby space is great. The room was simple and rustic, perfectly functional. It was clean and the bed was super comfortable. Couples may want to be warned about a lack of privacy as I didn't get the impression that our door was particularly soundproof! Breakfast was good and self service buffet style - lots of cheese, ham and breads
My only gripe was the service, which was a bit unpredictable. They didn't speak any English, which wasn't the issue as we did manage to borrow a power converter from the staff with enough gesturing. It was more that they were not particularly helpful with our travel queries or friendly when we asked questions, or even simply for a glass of water upon arrival (after a 27 hour journey from London!).
All in all I'd recommend the place for a short term stay, but if you are a traveller that expects a lot of assistance from hotel staff in making your holiday arrangements I'd suggest you look elsewhere.
- SteveB749 (10/5): Nice place, excellent location - We really enjoyed our short stay in this classic environment of an old grande house. Super high ceilings, old tile work and I guess what I think Uruagury would be like. Staff was warm and friendly...no English spoken, but we could get by. The room had a big comfortable bed, the bath is pretty basic but totally clean and functional. Breakfast was good with lots of choice. The location is near the harbor and most of the restaurants and bars a short walk away,
- jameshV2578BF (10/5): Lots of charm - I really enjoyed my stay here. It's what I imagined Uruguay to be like. You kinda step back in time to the days when hotels had style and charm.
I stayed in a small room because I was alone and it was very comfy indeed. I saw other rooms though and they looked fantastic ! Very confy bed and great bathroom.
Good WiFi and nice enough breakfast
Great location very close to everything you would want to see.
Colonia is a gorgeous wee town although one day was enough to see it all.
- alexanderv473 (4/5): Not 4*! A smile wouldn't hurt either.... - The staff are not friendly or helpful, the service is not good - the breakfast is even worse. I don't think this place is worth the money we paid for it.
However, the location is great, and the building is beautiful.
The beds are also amazing.
Shame about the service. Sadly can't recommend this place.
- 896emsb (8/5): Very nice place - It is a very nice place to spend a couple of days, to relax and enjoy the quietness, located near the iacht harbor and with a nice view over to the river.
The Posada is nice decorated with old, but in a good condition, furniture and accessories: old desk and armchairs; an antique piano and fire place.
The room was big, simply but nice decorated in the "grandma sommer holiday" stile. The bathroom was big, clean and renovated (the shower cabin and all equipment quite new).
It has a nice top terrace where you can enjoy the sun and tranquility of the place.
The breakfast was very nice and had a good variety of bakery, fruits, homemade marmalade and other stuff, which is not very oft to find :).
The wi-fi was available but did not function in the room ... for us was not so important ... but still might be for others important to know.
The personal was rather reserved ... not unfriendly but also not showing to much enthusiasm ...
The location is very good, as it is very close to the old city (almost at the limit of the old city, but still inside) and allows you to take at any time a walk in the city, to the river side, in the harbor, go to a restaurant, bar o cafe.
Very nice, we would and will come again there.
- schltzdavid (10/5): Peace and quiet - Colonia is mostly used for people extending their tourist visa to stay in Buenos Aires. However, Colonia also has a few hidden gems. Posada del Virrey is one of them. Located in a beautiful colonial building close to the centre and the harbor, this hotel offers a tranquil and luxurious stay.
