Guest Reviews
- Bernardo (9/5): -
- Nicolas (5/5): -
- Paula (4/5): - Well-appointed kitchen, great location for walk ability Filthy elevator, sticky floors, building front door lock didn’t work. Unresolved issues.
- Mizraim (6/5): - I liked its in the heart of everything Great didnt like that the elevator was broken the whole stay
- Joseph (1/5): Avoid at all costs. Dirty, old and noisy. - Fridge and microwave in room. A terrible stay, avoid at all costs.
Smoke alarm had low battery, so was beeping every 45 seconds.
Shower had no hot water for 48 hours after being reported.
Bed is "futon" style, very low to the ground
Very noisy area, so much so, they provide you with ear plugs (which still don't cut out enough!)
Only communication is via whatsapp (no one available onsite), this has an automatic AI response, which eventually gets forwarded to a real person, but is far from ideal.
Lift is shared with the bars either side, so is dirty and smels like stale beer.
Entrance is dimly lit, and directly between two busy bars.
6 night stay, no cleaning or fresh towels/bedding provided
- Thomas (2/5): Unfit for habitation due to loud never-ending ventilation noise. - It's central, clean, and they did provide us extra blankets when we asked. The room is located right next to some ventilation shaft that creates a deep whirring noise, all the time. It's distinct from the "city" noises (bars and pubs nearby). The bar noises go down when the bars close, but the whirring sound never ends. It makes sleeping impossible.
Also, we frequently ran out of hot water after one shower.
- Gonzalez (10/5): -
- Federica (8/5): - L’appuntamento era accogliente anche se piccolino, ma aveva tutti i comfort La porta principale era sempre aperta e non serviva il codice e poteva entrare chiunque
- Brittney (8/5): - Location Other guests were literally fighting/arguing ALL night long.
- Bolanos (10/5): So much fun - The area is perfect and of walking distance of everything. The elevator is tad bit scary but the room makes up for it.
- Omar (9/5): -
- Alan (6/5): - Elevator and common area not well kept. Room pictures are deceiving - actual room is much smaller than pictures show. Noise was not bad but I was on the third floor
- Ashley (10/5): -
- Rafael Hernán (10/5): Formidable. - Gran Confort, excelente ubicación, buenos servicios, restaurantes y bares cercanos.
- Yvette (10/5): - Great location, and very spacious and very clean and had all the toiletries needed, and s well stocked up kitchen, etc. Right in the heart of the Gaslamp district walking distance to everything.
- Melisa (8/5): - Plenty of restaurants all in walking distance. Given the area of the room could be quieter but other than that it was a very nice stay
- Garry (10/5): - Hidden gem
- Nicole (10/5): - Great location and easy check in. Very clean.
- Carmen (10/5): -
- Connor (1/5): -
- JOHN (9/5): - They had more kitchen equipment than I expected. Had difficulty with code devices at both bldg and room entrance. Had to enter code several times before door would unlock.
- Michael (10/5): - Grear location. Great cuban restauarant/coffee place next door.
- Sandra (8/5): Great location in Gaslamp! - Stay here if you want to explore Gaslamp Quarter restaurants and bars and/or attend a game at Petco Park. Great amenities and spacious rooms. It’s in between 2 restaurants so may be a bit noisy (depending on your room location). Hallways and elevators were a bit smelly and dirty. However the room was clean and price was very reasonable.
- 俊智 (Chun-Chin) (7/5): Room has everything. Seven Eleven is around the corner. Convenient. - Microwave, refrigerator is provided The room is located in an old building, and the main entrance was not locked.
- Garry (10/5): - Best place ive stay in gaslamp ,conviency wise
- Cynthia (10/5): - The elevator wasn’t working during our stay but otherwise it was good
- Manuel (4/5): - Only good thing was room was nice and clean other than that hallway just seemed dirty. Elevator was dirty and smelled was a bit noisy. Also there’s no parking on this property and it’s very difficult to find some. You have to park your car blocks away and leave it there no In-N-Out.
- Giampiero (9/5): -
- Benjamin (4/5): - Door code did not work when trying to enter building around midnight. Other people trying to enter building, asking if it was the speak easy. Door lock looked patched up after being kicked in.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Read your fine print and understand your surroundi - The place was easy to find, and nestled between two bars. The elevator going up to room smelled awful and was very nauseating like raw sewage each and everytime we used it. The room was cozy, but super tight fit. You are in the Gaslamp district where the nightlife is thriving, so they provide a sound machine and ear plugs to help drown out the sounds. The mini fridge leaked and reported it and was told someone would come to check on that, no one did. And then we had a little problem at the start of our stay being threatened to cancel it due to noise disturbance/complaints, even though 1. We were out of the room when these complaints were made 2. We are literally surrounded by bars which are notoriously loud. Turns out there is a noise detector in the rooms (read your fine print) and what it was picking up on was there was a fire alarm that went off in one of the bars. The customer service on that was very nonchalant and basic about it and for them a simple apology was suffice even though they threatened to cancel our stay and fine me per contract. I was super pissed and irritated by the whole experience that had me stressed out for the remainder of my stay. I was speaking as low as I could because of not wanting to set off the alarm. Just a terrible experience altogether. I will never go back there again, if not for the terrible experience but the nauseating smell of the elevator alone.
- Justin (10/5): - the room was much roomy yet unique
- Veronica (6/5): - Upon arrival I couldn’t get access into the building because the door wasn’t working. After 4 calls and 2 maintenance guys, they just decided to keep the building door unlocked the next day. It was so inconvenient because we had to use the side door of a restaurant to get in and the employees were super annoyed we had to do so. The elevator has a really bad smell. The room wasn’t 100% clean. Overall I was not satisfied with my experience here. Parking was also inconvenient, which I expected l, because in gaslamp you usually have to find a lot nearby to park in. A lot of the lots were full or didn’t do over night. We found one nearby that we had to just keep paying for every 10 hours. Expect it to be noisy all night because you are above some bars. Silver lining about this place is that it’s really close to everything. Walking distance to petco stadium for the padres game and close to the convention center as well.

- K9033QDamym (10/5): Splendid Stay in San Diego! - This was the perfect location for going to see baseball and enjoying San Diego nightlife! The room was so cute and well stocked. There were a few dings and scratches, but nothing that detracted from my comfort.
I must admit, I wasn't so sure about this company at first - our initial communications included several dead links, which required that I contact customer service to get them straightened out, but they were very attentive and took care of any issues very quickly. I noticed that a second room charge appeared on my credit card, but before it even posted, they realized what had happened, contacted me saying it would be rectified, and sent me a generous gift card as a good will gesture!
Their customer service proved to be spectacular, I loved my little room and everything it offered, I would definitely book with Kasa again!
- Travel57101238055 (10/5): Awesome experience! - Great spacious suite with big bed, kitchem, bathroom, dinette area livingroom area with sofabed! Excellent view, clean, safe! I'll return!
- Jeanneret (8/5): -
- E347CMchristopherp (10/5): Nice, clean and a very comfortable bed - Stayed here for the ESRI Users Conference. The studio is as advertised. It was nice, clean and well equipped. The noise from the bar is a real thing at night, i brought my wireless speaker and played white noise at night and it was never an issue. If you are a light sleeper, this will def be an issue. Loved the shower and the connivence of being close to everything and within walking distance. Overall this was an enjoyable experience and def recommend as a place to stay.
- O1717ZCkrystals (10/5): - Far exceeded my expectations. Very cozy space that had everything I needed. A short walk to the convention center and even shorter walk to surrounding bars and restaurants. Will be staying here again!
- charu (4/5): -
Good things:
1. Close to convention center
2. Suite was pleasant
3 Help from staff- Marlon and John were very nice to us and helpful and honestly the saving grace of this place.
Bad things:
1. Too loud downstairs
2. For an exorbitant price, it was a less than decent experience walking in, dirty dingy walkway, dirty elevator, sticky floors.
3. Ac was blasting in bedroom but rest of the suite was too warm
4. Ac would shut down on its own in the middle of the night
5. One night the fire alarm went off, we were away but there was no message or text of any sort from management.
We had to be out of the room until 11 pm.
6. It took a hours for whoever was on text to respond. We had to call the 1800 number to get help.
In short, over priced, no lobby or reception , very loud but staff were nice.
- Myles (10/5): - We had an amazing time on our honeymoon staying at Kasa Gaslamp! We highly recommend to anyone visiting downtown San Diego.
Transit to places like LaJolla, the beaches, Balboa Park and the Zoo were very accessible.
Our room was extremely quiet (weekdays and weeknights). Our room had a full kitchen and the bed was so comfortable!
The communication was great and check-in codes/instructions were so simple.
Such a great experience from Kasa! We will be back!
- Diane (10/5): - I liked being a close walk to the convention center. They left a coupon for the restaurant downstairs. It's in a 1887 building so things are a little quirky to fit. I had a little suite with a bedroom that the door closed and a little separate room with couch and TV. The kitchenette was well stocked with settings for at least 5, pots pans, pasta strainer. Mini fridge, electric 2 burner, microwave, toaster, hot water pot, and coffee maker. Also a mini first aid kit and a fire extinguisher.
There is a white noise machine and ear plugs, but I was in a back room and did not need them. There is background noise from the street at night.... But I was in the heart of gaslamp. So much to do just steps away. Hop skip and jump to ballpark also.
- Karen (4/5): - This apt hotel is bare bones in virtual management. The location is very noisy at night as it rests on top of a night club. The rooms are small & clean even if the building common area are dated and in need of updating.
- Reneé (10/5): - Such a great hotel. Even being over a bar the noise wasn't noticable. Nice to be able to just walk to nearly anything from the hotel. $13 overnight parking within a few blocks
- Robert (10/5): - Nice and close to restaurants and bars , and really close to the convention center.
Also super easy check in / check out experience
- Callie (8/5): - Overall, the room is as nice. While there was a table, it only had one chair so we could not both sit to eat together. One person had to sit on the bed. The elevator was very run down and was out of order the day we left. We were on the 4th floor with large suitcases so the elevator being out of order was an issue. There was poor signage for the stairs so we went down an extra flight before realizing we needed to stop at the second floor and then take another set of stairs down the hall to get out of the hotel. The location was great which made up for the things it lacked.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect location! - The stay was great! I was able to walk to the Gaslamp venue with ease. There was NO issue with noise as well.
- Brieanna (10/5): - The stay was perfectly quiet. Tucked away in the very busy sociable streets in San Diego. Very big space clean. Felt like I was home. Loved it.
- Sam (10/5): Great location on 5th Ave - Amazing location if you want to be in the middle of the action.
- Melvin (10/5): - This is an OLD Hotel, which I loved as it was so historic. Completely remodeled inside though. Amazing location in the historic Gas Lamp District. So many great places to eat all around the hotel. I was here on business & it was WAY less expensive than the big-name hotels. I will be staying here again with my wife when I come back for my nephew's graduation from USMC Boot Camp in September.
- christinev754 (8/5): great place and close to the convention center - unit was great but there was quite a bit of noise from the club below. did have difficulty getting into the building to start with. took over an hour to get the correct code to enter. the water and snacks were a bonus and much appreciated. was walking distance from the convention center.
- Kyrin (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Very good -
- 654bk2022 (10/5): First time staying at Kasa. I will be back! - A great stay here. Comfortable bed, great location. Very efficient to work with the staff for check in and check out. Would totally stay here again! Gaslamp Quarter was amazing, and this was right in the middle of it. Easy to access from airport, and great location to convention center and waterfront.
- Marcie (2/5): - I did not get to stay there and could not cancel the stay in my Expedia account or directly with Kasa, nor was I able to get a refund. Without a cancellation, I couldn't show proper documentation for the travel insurance, which I had purchased through Expedia. So I was charged for a trip that I didn't get to take. This whole experience was terrible. Due to Expedia's difficult and unhelpful policies and systems, I will not be using them again.
- Valerie (2/5): I would it stay here! - Horrible. I ended up NOT STAYING, the building is run down. The building has a dense musty smell,I could not breathe it! The elevator looks as though it will fall apart. There is NO parking especially if there is a game nearby. I had 4 rooms reserved and had to find another place for all of us, because I would not ask my staff to stay there!
- Jann (8/5): Petco visit - This place has as excellent location! Some noise at night but we tolerated it is it was well documented. It could use some touch ups-bathroom door frame &walls, bathroom floor, the bedding was very wrinkled and comforter had “balls” wadding of inner stuffing. Also, the bed is extremely low to the ground!! The elevator was horrible! We used once! And hallway-well the door was off slider to “electrical.” I attempted to communicate about check out duties and I kept getting message to “take trash out but not necessary!” We left earlier than expected and wanted to do everything the night before; I finally called the 3rd party and they informed me plus then I got more info night before. The “no front desk” is odd.
Would I stay here again? Probably due to location as we were there for baseball games.
- Linda (4/5): Nice Room But... - The room was cute and well-maintained. I knew going in that it was located above a bar & restaurant, but the level of noise until 2:00am - 3:00am couldn't even begin to be drowned out by the earplugs provided on the nightstand. I also sleep with the tv on, which would've helped with the outside noise levels, but that wasn't possible with the only option for tv being to stream video from my phone through a horrible internet connection there. The Chromecast constantly disconnected, as well as the internet constantly buffering.
I was in town for a convention at the convention center several blocks away, but checked out 2 days early after 2 nights of little sleep and having to walk around homeless people and vomit on the sidewalks. Again, their room was nice, but the area was overall gross.
- Mr Andrew D (10/5): An excellent suite in a great location. - An excellent suite with a separate kitchen and living room which I wasn’t expecting. Right in the middle of the gaslamp quarter, which is quite a noisy area, but I had no problem with street noise possibly because my room was on the top floor. A great location, only 5 minute walk from Petco Park.
- Shinyee (10/5): Exceptional - love it
- Smitha (10/5): - Great location in the heart of the Gaslamp district, close to everything. Although it’s an older property and the entrance and elevator is basic, the unit was comfortable with beautiful skylights in the kitchen and living room. The unit was well stocked for anything we needed. Towels and bedding were clean and good quality. The WiFi worked well. It’s noisy at night but earplugs were provided. Tons of eating options for every budget right outside but not much nearby in terms of groceries. Enjoyed the stay! Thanks!
- Sandy (8/5): Wouldnt stay again. Room in back was quiet enough Friend’s room in from very loud feom bars - Comfortable bed. Location was good. Kitchen was good Pull out bed mattress was old.
Elevator out more than once. Heavy luggage on 3rd floor.
- Angela (2/5): Nightmarish! - The location was excellent if you want to be in the middle of bars, right in the action. The place was not clean to my standards, there was a big stain on the sofa and a stain on my bed comforter, there were chips on the ground, The walls were dirty, and it smelled musky. There was no trash bag. It's virtual check-in but the front door would not work so I got locked out in the rain and could not get anyone to answer my calls. The bed was hard and hurt my back, the lighting was dull. This was depressing.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - I’ve lived in a major city and have been to Gaslamp before, so I knew what to expect. The unit was super small and yes, is on top of a busy restaurant. But it was clean, nice, and pretty quiet (I got lucky and wasn’t over the street). The location is great if you want to party in Gaslamp or don’t mind noise.
My only problem was when there was an issue with accessing the property due to a technical malfunction with the lock. The customer service channels Kasa advertises aren’t great. Text messages weren't answered and it took a really long time to get a person on the phone. The rep was nice and tried hard to help me, but she ultimately couldn’t get a hold of anyone to meet us onsite to help. Thankfully my party found a workaround, but it wasn’t thanks to Kasa.
This is worth the price if you manage your expectations and have the flexibility to navigate issues like the door thing without an army of hotel employees available.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Oof - Above a nightclub. Hallway and common areas smelled like urine and trash. Sheets felt unclean. I left at 2AM for another hotel. No partial refund offered. Definitely not recommended.
- Evelina (4/5): - If you like to go and party it's a great place but don't expect to get a good night's sleep. I should have known as soon as I saw earplugs and a sound machine placed next to the bed. Earplugs did not help as the whole room was shaking from the outside loud music.
Could also use a good deep cleaning.
- Robert (10/5): - Loved how comfy the bed was a long with the linen. Very clean room. Really couldn't hear the bars down below, but across the alley on the roof next door, there was a AC fan rattling all night. Other than that my wife and I would definitely come back to this place.
- Shinyee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Georgia (7/5): Good -
- David (10/5): Great stay in Gaslamp during Superbowl - Everything was great. Was worried it might be noisy because of location in the Gaslamp and it being Super Bowl, but everything was quiet and they even supplied earplugs just in case.
Check in/check out was simple and no issues.
Great value, clean and updated room with a nice little kitchen. Will definitely stay again.
- Robert (10/5): - In the heart of the Gaslamp district, great access to convention centre and a great night life.
- Sarah (8/5): - Overall it was a good experience. There was no body wash in the shower and the showerhead was very old and did not provide good pressure. The bedding was very comfortable but there was a small stain on the sheets.
- Jerry (4/5): - The room was spacious and well-equipped. It was clean, although there was no room cleaning performed during my stay - I would have liked some fresh towels, at least. The property is very well located, walking distance from many food and drink options as well as many grocery stores. The main issue is the noise coming from the street and from the restaurant and bar downstairs - you can literally make out conversations. When the music starts playing, both live and recorded, sleeping becomes nearly impossible. I always travel with earplugs, but even they couldn't keep out the thumping bass. Needless to say, sleeping was difficult and fitful. The noise may be limited to the second floor room facing Fifth Street, since it's right above the restaurant and bar, so it's best to verify which room you'll be getting.
- Sydney (8/5): - First time in a place like this! Once you stay you’ll understand. At first you walk in an alley way that feels illegal between el Chingon nightclub/restaurant and another eatery! They text you the code and you walk through a hallway with food workers and go either up some stairs or elevator and go to your room! We got the queen with own room for some extra room — it was nice and spacious (still felt crowded and dim for some reason). You can tell these were apartments at some time.
The other reviews that say the hotel was “extremely loud:” A) you’re staying in downtown Gaslamp on 5th avenue, why else are you there is not for the fun and vibrant nightlife? B) we truly TRIED to listen for any noise when we finally went to sleep around midnight and couldn’t hear a sound.
All in all, we had a good experience (just different from other stays such as the hard rock down the street). The property was able to accommodate our request for early check in which was great, they communicated to you the access code to get into the building and your room. And it was RIGHT in the center of gaslamp—what more could you ask for!
The biggest downside was parking — no parking on property or valet so plan your parking prior to getting down there (or get quoted an outrageous amount of 180$ for Athene LAZ parking down the street).
On a Saturday night we paid 21$ (2pm-next day at 1:30pm) for ACE parking “park it on market” which was about a 5 minute walk. Garage/gated/security. WELL worth it.
- K6554JSjohng (10/5): Cute Spot in the Heart of Gaslamp - Loved it! Felt like staying in a cute little east coast apartment. Amazing room for a young couple, & literally couldn't be in a better location.
We booked 1 night, but then chose to stay 2 more. Room was surprisingly quiet. Biggest drawback was no parking (Luckily a big parking structure a block east is $20 for 24 hours)
Room was small but cute, & had a big bed, a nice TV, & a private clean bathroom. Very solid kitchenette too, could really cook there if you wanted to, plus it already had a clean assortment of pots, pans, cooking & eating utensils, etc. included).
- Mikayla (10/5): - Parking voucher would be amazing to have
- Anne (8/5): Straightforward, no nonsense stay right in the heart of San Diego - Location right in the gaslamp quarter, convenient to the convention centre and anywhere in San Diego downtown. Ear plugs were provided to shut out the party outside. A little loud from the pubs below, so reluctant to open the windows.
- Verified traveler (2/5): If you’re sensitive to smells - It smelt like chemicals the moment you walk in; the unit was cozy but smelt very bad :( we checked out by 10pm the same day.
- Jill (6/5): - Pre check in was a horrific experience.
- Samiah (10/5): - It was really lovely i do wish there was more options of pots lol im a chef i like cooking i definitely made it work though!! Other than that it was good wasnt too loud and everything was clean and set up very nice.
- Agustina (8/5): Very good - It had everything we needed The noise at night
- Marcela (10/5): - Stay was awesome, close to everything and surprisingly quiet.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (8/5): - Good stay, right in the middle of everything. It is a bit loud, but they provide ear plugs. The place had everything we needed and we were happy to use the kitchen and washing machine as well.
- Marina (7/5): WE FIND THE LOCATION AND THE QUALITY OF SLEEP VERY GOOD. - THE BATHROOM RINNOVATE - THE MATTRESS & PILLOW CONFY - THE KITCHEN CLEAN WITH EVERYTHING _ THE HOMEDICS TO SLEEP BETTER- THE ENTRANCE.... ( FLOOR ) THE SMELL OF OLD APT- COULD BE BETTER REFRESH THE WALLS IN WHITE AS A SUGGESTION.
- Sandra (8/5): - Very spacious and well maintained property - although lounge/living areas quite dark without windows - but excellent level of equipment in kitchen and all very clean.
It was near-impossible find out if luggage could be left early or with a concierge (on arrival) - and it should be made clear BEFORE booking that you’ll have to use bounce.com - also on the day of checking out if you need to leave luggage.
No problem with noise from bars or restaurants below - and terrific area to stay in,
- Cody (8/5): - The area was right in the gaslamp district so it is loud at night with the party scene. The room was beautiful. My only complaint was the shower was dirty and moldy.
- Minsook (4/5): So sad. - The sound from outside is too loud and energetic for us.
- ashley (10/5): - love how easy it was to check in
- Aydrian (10/5): - This was the easiest place to check in and out of. No lines or people. Just an email and text. Perfect location in the heart of The Gaslamp Quarter. Would definitely stay again.
- Brian (8/5): Great location for the price - The hotel is located is a great place right in the middle of the GasLamp Quarter. Restaurants and bars galore. The room was like a mini apartment. Nicely furnished and clean. Very easy virtual check in process. The unit could use some maintenance and the bed and pillows could be upgraded. As some have said you can hear music from one of the bars next door but it wasn’t bad and we had no trouble sleeping. For the price this was a great place overall.
- Zaman Ahmed (6/5): - There is a random hidden fee the day before checking in. The elevator is practically broken. The main gate code is the same as the room code, which is unsafe.
- Alejandro (8/5): Great downtown independent apt. - The hotel is centrally located. If you want to be in the middle of all the action this place is a great option as you will be surrounded by bars and restaurants. The room was perfect, tasteful and comfortable with all necessary amenities. The check-in was a bit stressful. The information received to be able to self-check-in wasn't complete at first so we had to call to get further instructions. This took quite a while to resolve. The response time was very slow.
- Peter (10/5): - Nice convenient location. Nice to have this place as an apartment. Surprisingly, noise was not a problem.
- Vanessa (6/5): - The most important thing you need to know is that it is directly above a VERY busy bars and surrounded by a lot of other bars and club. They do provide earplugs and a noise machine which we turned on to the loudest setting. Luckily i was tired and fell asleep right away anyways. But do not stay here if you are a light sleeper.
The hallway downstairs & elevator smell pretty bad but once you’re in the room, everything is clean, no smell at all. The bed was comfortable and it is roomy and the kitchen came in handy.
They did leave us a cupcake at the door i think maybe to apologize for the noise we would hear being in a room facing the street.
Super convenient location and it was an easy walk to Petco & food
- 861bluej (10/5): Excellent Location in the Heart of Gaslamp! - Excellent location, right in the heart of the gaslamp district. Perfect for bachelor/bachelorette parties that want access to nightlife. Check in was smooth and the rooms are nicely appointed. I really enjoyed the room amenities that included a small kitchen with everything that I needed for my stay!
- Bolanos (10/5): A comfy suite in walking distance to a lot of cool spots - The location was in a good area. Is a bit noisy but it wasn’t a big issue
- Tibor (4/5): - Our room was a spacious well equipped one bedroom unit with skylights and a kitchenette in a small hotel in an old building right in the center of the Gaslamp District. Although renovated and the room was in decent condition, the building showed some wear and tear. My wife and I stayed for four nights. During our first night, after 1:30 AM, there was on and off loud construction noise and loud conversation in Spanish on our corridor and below our window outside until 6 AM. After complaining, this did not happen again. During our last two days we had no hot water. This could not be remedied. I guess we had bad luck and the hotel would deserve a better review but, based on our experience, I cannot go beyond two stars.
