Guest Reviews
- Paul (4/5): - The breakfast was good. The location for Bury St Edmunds centre was good. All a bit tired and dated. Strange smells. Nothing about the place was four star.
- Nordhav (1/5): Horrible - Place seemed to have been recently fumigated. Smell was awful. Not clean. See above.
- Nicky (10/5): A lovely stay in a great location. - A delicious breakfast - a good selection and the hot food was cooked quickly and with our preferred options, as requested.
A very comfortable and light room.
Very welcoming and friendly staff.
- GLYKERIA (10/5): Highly recommended !! - Traditional Tudor character interior,
Exceptional breakfast - full English with the best quality ingredients served by friendly, exceptional staff who showed genuine caring for customers … and … last but not least … perfumed toilet paper … that sums it up all 🥳 Nothing, everything was as advertised.
- craig (10/5): We had a lovely two night stay here while on our way to a family weekend. We weee made welcome from the moment we arrive - All the staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Great location being a 10-15 minutes walk from the town There was nothing to dislike

- Cambridge Crew (10/5): Warm Welcome - A warm welcome.started off our visit and our stay was everything that was advertised and more. Great location, within walking distance to the town centre. The cottage facilities are superb. Home away from home. Everything is quality and beautifully presented. Lots of little personal touches in every room. The breakfast was superb. Spoiled for choice. Nothing to say here.
- Dennis (8/5): Nice small hotel in a great location. - Location, staff and breakfast.

- Michael (10/5): A lovely stay and we would be very happy to stay here again. - Warm welcome, comfortable bed and excellent breakfast. Fan in bathroom not working. There was very little to dislike. Excellent hosts.
- Daisy (10/5): Beautiful hotel - Beautiful hotel with lots of character. Had everything you could need. Friendly staff. Lots of choice at breakfast and served nice and hot. Would recommend. A little cold and less soundproof, but to be expected from a historic building.
- Alison (9/5): Home from home - The staff were fantastic. There is a car park with a charger for my electric car. Really comfortable bed. Lots of comfortable places to sit around the building. Great selection of books to read and games to play. There's a kitchen with a dining table where we could heat up ready meals and sit and eat when it was too cold and rainy to venture out in the evening. The breakfast was delicious. It was a bit of a trek to the town but that would probably be fine in better weather. The shower was a little small and cramped but that's a very minor thing in an overall lovely place to stay.
- Harriet (8/5): -
- Brian (8/5): -
- Steve (8/5): - Room very clean with tea and coffee available. Bed was a little uncomfortable as mattress bit lumpy
- Sally (7/5): -
- Bryan (9/5): -
- Alison (10/5): Recommend this place - Lovely place and setting not far from town. I had a reaction to some meds whilst there and was ill. The staff were lovely as I was quite embarrassed to be sick. Sorted my room and were very understanding and kind. Thank you will come again. Nothing
- david (9/5): -
- Françoise (9/5): Très bien - Décoration intérieure, charme, livres, cuisine à disposition Personnel charmant
- Jane (9/5): - The location, friendly staff, comfy bed and amazing breakfast
- Francesca (8/5): Quirky & historic building with welcoming staff - Friendly staff to greet us, quirky decor, beautiful historic building, very comfortable mattress and clean room The bathroom mirror was broken and some of the furnishings felt in need of modernisation
- Mark (9/5): -
- oliver (10/5): - Great location, very cosy, comfortable rooms with excellent friendly staff, great service and fantastic breakfast.
- Andrew (10/5): - Beautiful place great location staff so kind allowing us to have a early breakfast. Nothing
- Carla (10/5): Great weekend break - Great room - we had one of the rooms with a kitchen, which was excellent. The room was very comfy; light, bright bathroom. The dressing gowns were great to have. This was our third stay at this B&B - I really like its look and feel, the staff are always reallly friendly and the breakfast is excellent. Will definitely stay again. It's an easy walk into town for the market, Abbey Gardens and the many restaurants and coffee shops, as well as the independent cinema. And within walking distance of the Parkrun at Nowton Park!
- david (7/5): Lovely building and excellent host - The character of the bedroom and kitchen Blackout blinds needed too much light for sleeping
- David (10/5): -
- Nick (8/5): Enjoyed our stay but thought it was expensive. - Welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed. Room in the attic with very sloping ceilings and a steep last flight of stairs.
Teilweise Einfachverglasung.
- Roy (9/5): -
- Susan (9/5): A lovely stay - Perfect location for centre of bury st Edmund’s
The breakfast was great too
Spacious and well equipped rooms The bathroom fan/shower was a little noisy
Particularly when we were trying to settle down to sleep
However it wouldn’t stop us booking again
- Tom (9/5): Relaxing enjoyable weekend - Loved the little apartment, and everything we needed was provided with a smile First night stay we did feel quite cold
- Mark (9/5): Everyone was nice - Quiet breakfast
- Emma (9/5): Very enjoyable break , would recommend - Breakfast was fantastic , so fresh , made to request. The lady waitress was so helpful , friendly and nothing to much for her
- Fiona (9/5): -
- Lynne (8/5): A lovely, peaceful & comfortable hotel. - Location, cleanliness, staff & good value There wasn’t anything particularly,it would have been lovely if there was some history to read about the place.
- Mary (10/5): - Brilliant breakfast
- Sheila (8/5): -
- Bernhard (10/5): - Exceptional hosting experience
- Rocky_53 (10/5): Ideal location, easy access to all shops and restaurants - Excellent courteous staff, easy check in, quaint and quirky. Large breakfast selection both cooked and continental. Nothing
- Paul (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at the Abbey Hotel and apartments the host very friendly, room lovely and clean, breakfast was to die for, would definitely recommend this lovely hotel,
- Esther (10/5): We spent two very pleasant evenings in a comfortable, historic inn. - The inn is a beautifully restored Tudor era building. The breakfast was cooked to order and plentiful, with good coffee. When I asked the hostess where I could do laundry because we had been traveling for a week, she offered to do it for us, and returned it to us next day: clean, dry, and folded. Nothing
- Chris (8/5): -
- Aidan (10/5): -
- Romero (10/5): -
- helen (9/5): Great stay, all be it very short would certainly recommend it. - Good location, around 10mins walk to town, but an easy walk and it was a lovely morning for it. Great breakfast and very comfortable room I would have liked a bath but in fairness I didn’t ask….. will do next time.
- Anne (9/5): -
- David (8/5): - Good sized room with some cooking facilities and fridge/dishwasher.
Lots of storage provided with 3 door wardrobe , chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and cupboard storage.
Good sized power shower.
Liked that this was Tudor/Medieval with exposed beams and fireplaces etc and the freely available boiled sweets found in reception/community room and bedrooms. The annoying loud knocking noise late at night and early morning heard from Room 1.
The parking entrance is real tight, you could not bring in a large vehicle!
- John (9/5): A wonderful surprise! - Our stay was very comfortable. We stayed in Room 3, which, to our delight, had a mini-kitchen where tea and coffee were provided for.
Staff were very friendly and breakfast was excellent: a wide variety of different kinds of food were on offer.
Readers will enjoy the large selection of books available.
As a bonus, the hotel is a short walk from Bury's beautiful cathedral and an array of shops and restaurants.
- audrey (5/5): -
- Lorraine (10/5): Ideal location, superb clean well resourced room, lovely staff and breakfast. - Friendly welcome, good shared space including a kitchen for guest use, excellent choices for breakfast - best poached eggs in years. Lots of attention to detail and lovely touches in room. N/a
- Gemma (10/5): - Great service from all the staff, comfortable quiet accommodation only 15 mins walk to the centre of Bury st Edmund’s. Lovely hot breakfast and convenient parking in the small courtyard of the hotel was very useful.

- Steven (10/5): -
- Gordon (7/5): -
- Chris (8/5): Comfortable and quirky. - The room was very comfortable and the service was excellent. The building is very interesting and quirky but the top floor room had very steep steps. The breakfast was very good with a lot of hot choices.
- Caron (10/5): - Lovely accommodation and breakfast, however, the distance from the hotel to the town centre is a 10 to 15 minute walk and not as advertised.
- sheila (10/5): So much nicer than an en-suite room off a corridor. - It’s homely, friendly, personal atmosphere when we arrived and at breakfast the following day and as we sat out in the garden during the morning and chatted to “Dad”. Can’t think of anything
- Schatz (8/5): A pleasant experience - Superb freshly cooked breakfast served to us by friendly staff who clearly showed a pride in their job. All other staff who we had contact had a similar and helpful approach Whilst our room was comfy it was a little small
A very narrow entrance to the small carpark with entrance signage which is easily missable from the road
- Michael (10/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): Calm oasis - Very comfortable bedroom
Lots of spaces to relax in in the hotel itself
Very quiet
Lovely breakfast
Proper glasses and mugs in the room Nothing
- Bethany (10/5): -
- Yvonne (10/5): Hidden gem. - Great location but also really quiet. It's such a historical beautiful building. Big room and a really comfy bed. Breakfast was made to order, and the choice was numerous. I love staying here. It was perfect for what I needed.

Excellently decorated and furnished with stunning period features and exposed beams. The staff were brilliant and very attentive and we cannot speak highly enough abstained it Natasha who loves ones after us.

- Kevin (10/5): - Very helpful in all aspects of or stay
- Laura (9/5): Very clean, superb breakfast and great size room. - Very friendly, car parking out the back (limited spaces) I managed to park. Comfortable bed, with a lovely shower. Very clean throughout.
Amazing Breakfast, freshly cooked. Although it wasn’t hot in the room in May, I would be concerned it could get warm in the summer months.
- Nick (8/5): Lovely bed & breakfast, but needs a refurb and road outside was noisy - Character property not too far from the centre of Bury St Edmunds. Freshly cooked breakfast with softly scrambled eggs…….. excellent Looking a bit tired and scruffy around the edges. A lot of road noise from cars outside, which woke us up several times.
We felt I t was a bit overpriced compared to other hotels in the area, however the staff were lovely.
- Nick (9/5): Abbey Hotel - The room was very comfortable and quiet. The staff were lovely and friendly. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
Access to the car park is a little tight, although we were informed of this beforehand.
Good situation for walking into Bury and to the Abbey.
Very pleasant stay.
- Lourdes (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly, extra helpful and very accommodating, knowledgeable staff. The Age and overall ambiance of the hotel. Flight to the room, but assistance was readily available
- Patricia (6/5): Pleasant - Great En-suite too small
