Guest Reviews
- Dorde (10/5): - The food is exceptional, beyond imaginable, great service and hospitality. Will be back for sure
- Abdessamad (10/5): -
- Thomas (8/5): Kommerzielle Romantik - Freundliches Personal, tolles und authentisches Ambiente. Teilweise extreme Preise
- Maged (9/5): A lovely vineyard embraced by the sea and mount Etna, with super fresh and tasty food. - A beautifully located room facing both, the sea and mount Etna. The vineyard is beautiful, the food is all farm to table, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. Out of our stay in Sicily, this is the location we had the most activities: pasta cooking, going up mount Etna and horseback riding.

Torneremo presto! Il soggiorno è stato perfetto.
- Sureni (10/5): - I had an amazing stay at Relais & Chateaux Monaci Delle Terre Nere! The staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great experience. 5-star service and amenities
- Alia (10/5): -
- Rimma (10/5): excellent stay, would definitely come back - property is fabulous, service was impeccable and very friendly. Restaurant was amazing for dinner, although breakfast was just ok. Wish we had more time to explore the property and do some activities (wine tasting, horse back riding, etc.)
Very pleased, would love to be back. The hotel is about 20-30 min by car from the city, so the driving back and forth in traffic was about annoying. If you want to mainly explore the city, this is probably not the place, but if you want to unwind and relax-definitely recommend it!
- Sanders (10/5): Do not think twice about staying here. Just book it and enjoy a truly magical experience. - This was our favorite property during our 3 weeks trip. Simply stunning property with truly an amazing staff. We were generously upgraded at check-in. Dinner in the restaurant was 5 stars, and Roberto was fun to share wine knowledge with us. We were in a Villa, which was one of the most beautiful rooms Ive ever stayed in. Nothing

- Sheng-ya (9/5): A charming estate in a beautiful setting, with kind staff and a relaxed atmosphere. - The estate is absolutely stunning_ a beautiful and spacious setting in a perfect location. The staff were warm and attentive, and both the restaurant and breakfast were very enjoyable. Some of the in-room facilities could be improved. The hot tub wasn’t the easiest to use, was a little noisy, and didn’t heat up quite enough. The “private” pool is actually shared between three rooms – though still spacious, very pleasant, and large enough for proper laps. (If you’re expecting a pool entirely to yourself, it’s worth double-checking before booking.)
- Luca (10/5): An unforgettable Sicilian escape - Monaci delle Terre Nere is the kind of place you remember long after you’ve left. Set on the slopes of Etna, the estate blends organic farming, refined design, and heartfelt Sicilian hospitality. Our room was spacious and serene, with lava-stone details, crisp linens, and views over citrus groves and the sea. Breakfast was outstanding—seasonal fruit, homemade cakes, local cheeses and honey—everything tasted genuinely fresh. Dinner at the on-site restaurant was a highlight: elegant but not fussy, with a superb Sicilian wine selection and staff who guided us perfectly. Throughout our stay, the team went out of their way to help with tastings and day trips; nothing felt scripted, just warm and effortless. The grounds are expansive and beautifully kept, perfect for slow morning walks or sunset cocktails. If you’re looking for a place that captures the essence of Etna—nature, flavor, and quiet luxury—this is it. We left rested, inspired, and already planning our return. Nothing !! Everything was just perfect
- Shelley (10/5): Peaceful and beautiful, with outstanding service - The location of Monaci is simply stunning. The villas are spread out providing space and tranquility. The grassy pool area with the stunning vista is so special. Finally the food is amazing as is the restaurant space, and we were lucky enough to have a private cooking class with the head chef and guided tour through the gardens / cellar. We look forward to returning in the future. Nothing.
- Simon (10/5): Wonderfull place - This place is just something special. Absolutely fantastic location with a magnificent view of vineyards and the sea. Here you can really relax and enjoy Sicily Nothing
- Servizio colazione Top!
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional - One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Faultless.
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional - Stunning location, exceptional level of service from all of the staff, incredible food and drinks. Absolutely flawless.
- Eva (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jack (9/5): Beautiful property, amazing breakfast and very friendly staff. Food and drink (except wine) overpriced but probably to b - Super friendly staff, great breakfast, one of the most stunning locations I have ever stayed in. Aircon didn’t work that well, room got quite hot in the night. Excursion price list was very expensive, food at pool was good but again, not really anything available for less than €30. Not enough drinking water in the room, or at the pool.
- Adam (10/5): Full of culture very well run incredible display of Vineyards I love the individuality of each of the villas. They will - It’s the third time I’ve stayed there in the last four years or maybe more. This has to be the best time and I’m talking about the finer details all falling into place. My room wasn’t so much as the room it was more villa outside pool more of a plunge pool, but perfect for a couple of people. Incredible views of the vineyards a decent view of Mount Aetna, but most of all it’s the individuals that I see each time I’m there the food is amazing the selection of wine very impressive and overall if you want to go and hide away in the midst of organic wine production it is a very peaceful place to go. You can find nightlife there. There’s a wonderful bar and they make the most incredible the negroni - another bar situated in front of the swimming pool which quite frankly if you’re up early enough it is one of the greatest sunrises I’ve ever seen. It has a notoriously good sunrise person speaking. I don’t want the fuss and the high-end pampering that that isn’t genuine that you can find in other high-end establishments as far as I’m concerned though the setting the people the architect the simplicity and yet five star throughout you can’t go wrong one visit will bring you back enjoy yourselves I have tremendously - Max is not gonna spell spellcheck this or read it back again cause that way you know it’s definitely not ChatGPT ha ha Not enough water in the room to drink
- Luisa (10/5): A dream called Monaci delle Terre Nerre. - This is a paradise. We enjoyed every single moment of our stay. The room was an experience itself ... the best sunrise in my life. The sound of silence, priceless. A large Wine Estate surrounded by threes and orchards with a majestic view over the sea. I will come back very soon for a longer stay. The staff was attentive, kind and professional. The best food I had in Sicily. Wonderful stay! We loved everything!
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Erez (10/5): Amazing experience - Magical place n location with top service food n stuff
Attention to details to make your experience just perfect None all perfect
- Debra (8/5): Stunning location on the slopes of Mt Etna - The location and the vineyard grounds were beautiful. Sorry to be there when it wasnt warm enough to enjoy the pool or outside dining. Easy location to drive up for a day on Mt Etna. Rooms modern and clean. The restaurant "Il Casale di Sarro" was a 10 min drive away and the best pizza of the whole trip. Desert was also homemade and delicious. Hosts were so friendly and treated us to a local after dinner drink made from vegetables. Dining options were limited. No lunch option when we were there. Dinner in the main house dining room was not special enough to justify the price. Took too long to check in, wanted to upgrade our room and even though the hotel was almost empty it took over an hour to do this. They should have upgraded us automatically like other hotels did. Modern and clean room design but some things like bedside tables and bath layout were not functional, this coming from an architect who appreciates good design.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Beautiful rooms in a heavenly setting
- Siobhan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vanessa (10/5): MAGICAL - Amazing location and facilities Not applicable
- Magdalena (9/5): Magical place - Magical place, breath taking views. Rooms very comfortable. Staff very friendly. Overall we had a great experiance even with rainy weather. Some facilities in the room could be upgraded (shower head , sealing around the shower). Place is a little bit overprices when it comes to food and drinks.
- Ksenia (10/5): Wonderful stay - Well , it’s my third time at Monaci . I’m just in love with that place . With the tranquility, wonderful big , beautiful rooms ( I stayed at villa ) the pool with the fantastic view. The food was amazing , just no words more to say . Very good breakfast served outside , all organic. I’m highly recommend to visit a Monaci . You will love it like me
- Melis (5/5): It was raining cats and dogs when we arrived to the hotel. They were not prepared for that at all! - A beautiful hotel is in a green area where they also produce their own wines and organic food. Poor breakfast. WiFi was not working properly, hence we had some difficulties to reach out the reception when we were in our room. Due to the bad weather conditions the electricity was down for a couple of hours both in the night and morning, thus there was no hot water in the room.
- Agnese (10/5): A break in Paradise - This place is absolutely stunning! From the setting, underneath Mount Etna, to the place itself which is immersed in vineyards and olive trees! The staff is very professional and ready to meet any of our needs. The food was great and all produced at Monaci. The villa we stayed was beautiful with amazing views, an infinity pool, very private and with a very original feature, it was built around some volcanic rock! And if that wasn’t enough, I was amazed to learn that Stanley Tucci, the actor I adore, stayed in the same villa!!! I highly recommend this place for an unforgettable experience.
- Linda (8/5): Very good - breakfast was not great. wasps in the meats, lacked variety. was the worst buffet of our 25 day stay in Sicily.
- Alexander (10/5): This is my favourite destination in the entire world. I now actively divert to Catania whenever I am in Italy, just to - The sense of complete peace settles your soul. You really feel the spiritual history of the site. Absolutely nothing.
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luca (8/5): Very good -
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional - This was a return trip which exceeded all expectations. The level of service, hospitality and fabulous cuisine just gets better! A wonderful stay, the beauty and tranquility of Monacci is a true tonic and the cocktails are out of this world! The only thing I didn’t like was having to leave!
- Daniel (10/5): An absolute dream vacation for me! - The Staff, in every part of the property, were friendly helpful and fun. Blown away by the Villa and the grounds. Food and view at the restaurant was excellent.
- Debbie (8/5): The position of the hotel, the staff and the food were all amazing. We thought that for the price we paid the room was t - The position, the way the cottages were dotted about the vineyard, the bar and restaurant and the staff in them We thought the cottage we had, although large, was expensive for what we got. We thought it a little grubby and tired.
- James (10/5): Happness I would like to live here - Beautiful earthy feel nature peaceful I have a problem walking
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- ANTONY (10/5): - Phenomenal property. Privacy, service and food were amazing
- Felipe (10/5): Exceptional - The location is amazing, on the skirts of Mt. Etna, and all the facilities, from the pool to the restaurant in the old building are amazing. We were attended to in the friendliest way by the entire staff, including a private traditional Sicilian pasta making lesson; they were all great. The view is amazing, the food was outstanding, overall an unforgettable experience in all senses.
- Melissa (4/5): Potentially a great property but staffing was a major let down. - The property was unique, the rooms were very spacious and well equipped with great views surrounded by beautiful lime trees. The staff were not attentive.
In all areas we had to go and find someone to serve us.
The sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable but no one else.
- Svetlana (10/5): Paradise on Earth! - One of my favourite places in Sicily! Excellent rooms with lovely views, great organic breakfast and very friendly staff! Especially appreciated their experiences. Can't wait to come back! I wish I could stay longer!
- Robert (8/5): Lovely location. Dinner service was very disjointed. Waited 15 mins to be asked for our choice then 2 more staff came - Unusual and very nice location Very expensive for cocktail and a cooked breakfast was way way too expensive. For the very high cost to stay there , should you pay more for avocado? no !
- Elizabeth (10/5): - 10 out of 10! Insane property, incredible views and staff, meals that were flawless, we will be back!!!!
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional -

- Natasha (10/5): Mount Etna made it an unforgettable retreat. i can't wait to return. - My stay at Monaci delle Terre Nere was truly exceptional. This is a paradise on the slopes of Etna amidst the lush Sicilian countryside, the property exuded tranquillity and charm. I can't say enough about attentive service, gourmet meals sourced from their own organic garden, exceptional collection of art, fantastic wine tasting and cooking class.... and the sleep. i travel around the world a lot - this is one of THE best places to sleep and simply enjoy time at the hotel. and time here is sweet and slow, just like local honey. the only thing that could have been better is to stay longer. Monaci delle Terre Nere is a destination on its own that deserves at least a few days of stay.
- Wen (7/5): Good -
- João (10/5): We will definitely comeback. Perfection ! - Everything! It was excellent!
The hotel, the staff, the club sandwich - :) - the pool, the view.. I mean.. It was amazing! Everyone so nice, so oriented to the customer.. I have no words for how well treated we were. I would not say I did not like, but the food at the restaurant it was not for me..
But I am sure it was only because I tend to like simpler food. I loved their club sandwich at the pool bar, the salad at the pool bar, the drinks at the pool bar, everything at lunch was perfect! For dinner, fine dinning, it is not for me ! :)
- Michael (10/5): - Stay here. It’s special place.
- Jo (10/5): Its my hide out - I’ve been before and I just love escaping to there… the sunsets the food and peace and of course the cocktails by the pool.
- Dennis (5/5): We won't return nor would we recommend a stay there to others - The privacy of our room location. The staff were professional, helpful and welcoming. Not value for money and perhaps that was a reason why there were very few guests. Examples include 84 euros for 3 toasted ham and tomato sandwiches which we collected from the kitchen to have in our room for lunch; we had to check out too early for breakfast and were given a takeaway breakfast that consisted of a small portion of melon, 2 small pieces of cake and a small bottle of water - a really poor offering; as a welcome offer we were ushered to the pool bar to receive a glass of water. Two wine glasses were in the room with various bottles of wine - for a wine producing estate a nice gesture would have been even a "free" half bottle of the estate wine. The owner was present at some meal times so given the paucity of number of guests stopping by to say hello should not have been a hardship.
- Saud (10/5): Exceptional - beautiful nature, fresh eggs, fireplace in the room
- Nata (10/5): Peaceful - Beautiful property with wonderful amenities. Would definitely stay longer next visit.
- Ann (9/5): Superb - The excursions and activities were great. Making pasta, wine tasting and cocktail making was fantastic. Much more informative than others ee have done. Trip to Etna was very good and again very informative.
Breakfast was amazingly good with plenty of fresh produce...more than anywhere else we stayed.
Overall the place is very rustic...using natural elements to make stairs, pathways, etc. The bed and lounge chairs were uncomfortable for us 60+ year Olds. Our room a/c broke but the staff took care of it right away.
- Rick (9/5): Idyllic setting, delightful staff, don’t miss Marco’s wine tasting event! - Floor to ceiling windows on three sides of top floor of the property in a secluded location in the vineyards with tremendous views. It’s the price to pay for a secluded setting but you have fairly lengthy buggy rides back and fro to the restaurant, pool etc
- Kyoko (10/5): Perfect place to relax - Almost everything. We needed a relaxation in a comfortable hotel and it was perfect. Especially the staffs were so friendly, informative and professional. none
- Josh (9/5): Superb -
- Louisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Svetlana (10/5): Excellent Sicilian hospitality - A perfect stay in a perfect location, simply wonderful. The staff was most accommodating and professional, making us feel at home and fulfilling any request with a friendly smile. Couldn't find anything not to like, the stay was perfect.
- Denise (8/5): Beautiful Property for a Laid Back Holiday - The property was magical. It is absolutely stunning (at least what we saw of it) and restored in the best way possible. We loved the gardens, the property’s authentic restoration with designer finishes and flare and the comfortable appointments. The one issue we had was lack of staff. The staff there was very nice, but often inefficient and quick to say they will “call someone”, yet no one would show up to help.
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional - what an amazing find a truly beautiful location with exceptional food and wonderful staff I can not wait to return ‘
- Sandee (9/5): Fantastic get away ... very relaxing and great break from the usual crowded travel destinations - Hotel is an amazing place among the vineyards
- Annie (7/5): Beautiful setting, broadly excellent service but enough imperfections to feel overpriced - A couple days before check-in, I saw reviews about bad service so I was pretty concerned but the service was mostly outstanding- Anita particularly was excellent. we arrived via the wrong entrance so they collected us, drove our car around for free and they were very apologetic, and upgraded our room for free. Not sure why they upgraded if it was because of how we arrived or if they just were overbooked on the cheaper room but that made our stay very special; we had a private pool and a massive room. The food was absolutely delicious and it was great they had both tasting and a la carte options. I had seen complaints about a 6 euro cover charge but you do get bottomless tasty bread and an amuse bouche. I also saw complaints about walking around the estate- we were very close to the main building anyway but they also now have golf carts to pick you up and ferry you around whenever you want. Also, its a pretty beautiful estate to walk through. Eating fresh fruit from the property at breakfast and in our room was a really nice touch. The views and the beauty of the location speak for themselves- not many places you can wake up to a sea view at sunrise. Although the property was fantastic, I dont think it works out as good value for money.
Unfortunately, we booked with the intention of doing lots of the activities but when we saw the price lists (105 euros each for a 1 hour yoga session!) we just got the feeling of being ripped off. The wine tasting was quite pricey even for their own wines, and the meal was good but at the expensive end of our meals in Sicily. We looked up tours of Etna like they offer via Jeep and found similar options for about 1/3 of the price. When staying at similar places in the past, we have found that the high room rates usually are justified by really reasonable (and still top quality food)/ complimentary vineyard tours and It just feels like Monaci are trying to squeeze as much money out of you as possible and its a shame because for that reason we wouldnt return or recommend it to family or friends. But if you are happy splashing cash and just want a relaxed time, definitely the place for you.
A few other slightly annoying things were that the Wifi was down a lot (probably not their fault), they messed up our dinner reservations both nights (wrong time first night, not registered 2nd night) -we still were sat immediately but the maitre d' seemed irritated at us. Our room had a bottle of red wine in the fridge instead of a rose. We took the red out and left it on the side as a hint but it was just placed back in the fridge. We also drank a bottle of white and it wasnt replenished in the room. We could have asked them to replenish but due to the Wifi issues we couldnt get much response from them so didnt bother. The other thing was getting a drink by the pool was a challenge as the bartender was never there. Even for our free drink on arrival, we waited 20-30 mins to be served which we later discussed would have been very annoying if you just wanted to get to your room and use the loo!
- Huw (6/5): it was a mixed experience! - situation and views terrific. as it is on Etna there was a minor earth tremor at 6.45am! breakfast chaotic, we were unlucky as the next table had three badly behaved screaming kids. poor choice and no fruit on offer, butter and fresh milk almost unobtainable.
dinner in restaurant a minor disaster as really loud bad jazz piped over music system and sommelier asked us three times what we wanted, we told him the same each time but it never came. we gave up asking! the second night we decided to go to the nearest seafront to a fish restaurant but that was 40 minutes on the terrible roads!
- Jo (10/5): It is and will always be Beauty in paradise with Exquisite wine and service.. and the new menu is amazing.. - that I stayed here before and it was our anniversary and reception and staff remember this remember us and that felt so special I couldn’t find anything that I couldn’t love about this place.. it’s perfect for us
- Nicholas (8/5): great hotel - our room was great private & large , gardens are fabulous, the staff were all excellent and went out of their way to make our stay a very happy time. they are all a credit and example of excellent service the breakfast overall was very poor in terms of breadth and quality. the bakery was dreadful the bread/ bakery needs to improve. The rooms need to be maintained to a higher standard. looking a bit shabby chic on close inspection. sun bed mattress dirty and hard. small details but for the price which is high should be easily rectified but again the staff made up for these shortcomings to make our stay memorable.
- Aaro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ttdxb (10/5): By far the best place to stay in Sicily. It is a real treat! - Beautiful views, lovely ambiance, large rooms with fireplace, amazing food, very good service and really really good wine. Beds could be a bit more comfortable.
- Camilla (6/5): would not return! did not live up to hype. breakfast disappointing. - tranquility when it rains there is nothing to do unless you spend a great deal of money. activities and food are eye wateringly expensive. you need a car. there are no decent restaurants nearby so you are trapped! not suitable for those who aren’t mobile or children.
- Anneke (10/5): Relaxing, peaceful, local food grown on the farm - Being on the property is relaxing and peaceful. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Our villa felt private and romantic. One of the highlights was the morning breakfast spread — a beautiful selection of local fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meats, eggs, jams, honey, juices and a smoothies. They also offer fresh baked bread, pastries, and cakes. Meals at the restaurant are simple with preparations that feature the quality of the fresh, local ingredients. We also took a pasta-making class, taught by the chef, which included a visit to the hen house to collect fresh eggs. We visited in early May, the weather was cold and rainy, and the property was still beautiful. You can tell it would be an absolute paradise in good weather. Getting around the property requires calling for staff to pick you up in a golf cart, and the cobblestone roads are quite bumpy.
- Ayan (7/5): Worth a short stay just for the views - Stunning views Breakfast service and food was poor - definitely stood out for the wrong reasons - not 5 star
- Moris (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): - We arrived around 8PM straight off a set of flights from SFO and were exhausted. We were welcomed into the bar, a beautiful, cozy room, given food and drink, and checked in there, since reception had closed. We ended up spending a couple hours chatting with another couple, the place promotes making friends.
Throughout our stay the food was terrific, breakfast on the lawn above the pool was amazing, including eggs from the farm's own chickens. The service was very friendly. Antonio offered us a tour of the wine cellar, which is actually built into an ancient well and not to be missed. Gabriela, the bartender, made a very good negroni and stayed to chat, as staff often do here.
The property is spread out over many acres of vineyards and over 100 fruit trees. Our building was the furthest from the central building and restaurant so it was very quiet. They provide a golf cart to get you around on the very rough and often unpaved roads of the estate but it is a bit hair-raising as the roads are bumpy and the staff drive very fast. We ended up just driving our own car around, which was slightly better, given the narrow, bumpy roads. We got lost repeatedly, but that was part of the fun as we always eventually got to the place we were going.
Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves beauty, great food, and terrific people.
- Anonymous (10/5): top Relais Chateux in Sicily - Monaci delle Terre Nere is a dream place , the perfect get away where you can deeply find relax and also enjoy the beautiful landscape to do nice walk surrounded by grapes
trees .The director Giovanna she was so kind and welcoming she gave us the best tips and we loved our stay ..next time we will definitely stay longer we loved the Room , the service and the Location is Unbelievable
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Marsha (9/5): Superb -
- Friedrich (9/5): 89 Parker Points (above average to very good) - Very attentive staff in a relaxing atmosphere that the menu for dinner at the Ristorante Locanda Nerello was identical with the pool menu.
- Deborah (10/5): very relaxing, felt pampered - beautiful location, lively grounds, good facilities
- Barbara (9/5): Superb -
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -

- Carolyn (7/5): Beautiful Property! - The rooms were tastefully furnished, I loved the little touches like the bowl of fresh fruit from the garden which was delicious. The welcome drink by the pool and grounds were absolutely stunning. The wonderful gentleman from Sri Lanka who checked us out really kind and that check out experience was great in contrast with the check in procedure which was bizarre and complicated. I loved the ecologically friendly policy and spent many happy hours looking at the beautiful trees and flowers and was glad to be able to name some of them. The chickens in their happy free range enclosure made me so happy- they looked healthy. Convivum Bar was beautiful! The check in procedure was just bizarre. We drove from the ferry terminal in Milazzo and arrived earlier than check in time. We were left waiting for quite some time in the courtyard / car park for someone to attend to us. When we were eventually seen to, we were ushered up to the pool for a welcome drink which was very nice. We were tired and really just wanted a shower but were told we had to wait to check in in a couple of hours. We decided to head to town and were looking for our bags when we realised they'd already been deposited in our room which was ready - not sure why they couldn't have let us access the room earlier. The room had mosquitos clearly zipping about and we had to spray it throughly to ensure we were not bitten.
- Clive (10/5): delightful and relaxing - warm service good food unmade road makes access challenging
- Snezana (8/5): Pristine hotel far away from noise and crowd - I liked the stunning location but we did not have luck with weather so it was difficult to get a full sense of the hotel on a rainy day. Each room is different so feel depends on the room - we had two different rooms and we liked one much better than the other one. The hotel is great if you want to stay only there for a few days but not good as a base to explore nearby places. Surrounding is not so developed (issues with trash collar room were surprising for us), so close to the hotel.
- Maryrose (6/5): Pleasant -
