- hannah (9/5): -

- Alan (8/5): I would like to go back again, would highly recommend this place to friends. - An an easy 10 minutę walk from the station, don't let the building's 1960's exterior deceive you, the dinner was superb, way beyond expectations, served in your room, fresh, local ingredients, grilled fish and grilled Hida beef, sautéed local mushrooms with a 'mentaiko' sauce, fresh sashimi, another white fish sautéed in a French butter/'wa-fu' sauce, plus more imaginative concoctions in the kitchen that were excellent with two local sakes we ordered, the wonderfully dry 'Horai' and an exceptionally creamy 'nigorizake'. We savored our meal slowly over two hours and finished it with green tea and a walk to the onsen bath. Did I mention the new tatami mats in the room? What's not to like? You can pay for more luxury, but this was excellent value for money. Note that you will be sitting on the tatami while you eat, which may bother some people.
The breakfast was also delicious, Japanese style, grilled local anago river fish, yudofu simmered in onsen water, Yama-imo and raw egg, dashimaki tamago, local sautéed mushrooms, tsukemono, miso soup, rice...mmmm. Nothing to complain about.
- Jay (5/5): Passable - Hotel was dated room was very small and uncomfortable for us. Meals and big bath were okay.
- Jason (10/5): excellent - amazing meals
- Gerry (7/5): Onsen Hotel with a View - Quiet location with a great view Did not like distance from town. Local bus service is infrequent. Taxi ride to hotel is costly.
- Snjezana (5/5): Passable - We upgraded our room to a private balcony and onsen. It made our stay better. There is a need for upgrade.
- Anfernee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Irvan (8/5): Very good - The food was good
The onsen is good
- Ivy (10/5): Pleasant and best service - Dinner is extremely delicious. The designs of the room are spacious, pleasant and comfortable. None
- (marneeshine (9/5): Clean big room and quite. - We want to come back again for next trip. Clean and can walk around.
- (marneeshine (9/5): Superb -
- Tack (8/5): Offer an unforgettable experience of onsen - There is public bath at level 6. This is great for an experience of onsen. We truly enjoyed. Nothing
- Antoine (6/5): Pleasant -
- Constance (7/5): A traditional hotel - Room was average.
Dinner and breakfast were Kaiseki style, served in our room by a male Japanese speaking staff who took the trouble to Google translate all the different dishes to English. He was very polite.
Driver who drove us to the train station on the day of check out was extremely accommodating n helpful.
The ladies' public onsen .. The Rose Bath was quite nice but with very few flowers. Different from the photo in the hotel website with lots of flowers. Kisoya is relatively traditional and the front office staff speaks minimal English. We had to communicate through Goggle Translate.
The open-air bath tub was small, enough for just 1 person. Unfortunately, the water was not hot, only lukewarm. The temperature was controlled by a device in the tub under water. You have to inform front office to increase the water temperature. The water is boiled and not natural spring water.
The tatami was a 3 piece fold-up mattress, not a rolled mattress. It was hard and not comfortable at all. Only 1 pillow per tatami was provided.
I messaged them twice in English and Japanese regarding shuttle bus pick up but received no reply from them.
You can get a better place at their rate.
- Victor (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (7/5): Good - The lovely staff were helpful Through translation I was advised there were no non smoking rooms in the hotel. the room we got was a heavy smokers room far back corner of the hotel.. We got a new room after asking to be changed. Owners were very nice. I blame booking.com as a genius level where rooms are discounted the hotelier just hands over a crappy room as they are losing out.
The same has happened again in Shin Osaka, a shocking room under an expressway
- Walailuk (9/5): Good experience with japanese traditional style. - Rooftop onsen is supurb
- Loraine (10/5): Exceptional - The onsen is great and we loved the yukatas provided by the hotel. The staff of the restaurant was lovely. No room service.
- Pei (9/5): Good experience to pamper oneself - Obsessed with the top floor public onsen, especially the outdoor. Both onsen pools are spacious and were never crowded. The indoor hot spring has fragrant flowers from 3pm to 10pm, an exceptional feature that will captivate any ladies. The toiletries were amazingly good. My hair was extraordinarily softened with the well known brand Tabibijin products.
Room was very cosy in Japanese tatami design. Ample space, fridge and glasses available, hot water flusk ready and a set of yukata to make a foreigner feel closer to Japanese culture.
Recommended hotel for Gero town. Nothing.
- Xiangping (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff.
Outdoor onsen None
- Lydie (5/5): Passable -
- Tamang (4/5): Disappointing -
- Akiko (8/5): Very good -
- Rowena (10/5): very relaxing.satisfied in food. - the rose omiyage section
- Cheng (10/5): Exceptional - love the breakfast and good price
- Kritchai (8/5): Very good -
- Tobias (10/5): Great Ryokan with a nice onsen! - The Personal was really nice and friendly, the Inn is located right besides a Family mart and otherwise Central enough to reach every place of interest in about 10minutes. The rooms are really nice, and comfortable and offer tea, a private fridge , bathroom, and a small side room to sit at a window, which was great. The onsen is located on the rooftop and was really relaxing, we used them multiple times, even while also visiting some of the public onsen in Gero. All facilities were also clean and tidy. Overall the stay was a real highlight.
- Rani (7/5): pleasant stay - spacious rooms and very clean. close to amenities. Has lift and free shuttle service to bring you to hotel and send back to station which was helpful. water pressure in the bathroom and toilet very low and takes longer for shower.
- Hawtmael (3/5): Poor - Room very well equipped with amenities and even self-madsage tools. Private outdoor onsen tub was nice, tatami bed comfortable. Location was good, 2 supermarkets within short walking distance. Outdated style. Reception area was a mish mash of a ton of decor, the room smells weird. All those were fine by me , it was the noise from the kitchen right next to the room I was given that really really bothered my rest. Lots of banging and dragging of stuff can be heard very early in the mornings.
- Mariana (10/5): Exceptional - All the staff are really nice and welcoming us.
- Rachel (9/5): Relaxing bath under the stars - The room we got had a private bath which was wonderful. The public bath was amazing and it was a great size. I don’t know if I accidentally booked a smoking room because the whole room smelt like stale smoke. It did give me a shocking headache so just be super aware of that when booking if you are a non smoker.
- Jonas (10/5): I had a very relaxing night and would come back if I’m in the area - I had a very warm welcome and enjoyed the onsen on the roof
- Abu (10/5): Peaceful Ryokan with amazing staff and facilities - This was one of best decisions on japan trip. Kisoya made my Gero trip so peaceful and lovely. I enjoyed the Ryokan inn stay. I would definitely recommend everybody to go Kisoya. All the Ryokans numbers are mentioned on the map that you get from train station. I walked to Kisoya and it was easy to reach. The staff are very sweet and super helpful. They go out of their way to assist. They have Public onsen on 6 floor, it has amazing massage chairs and vending machine as well. My tatami room was best, it has fridge , a set of utensils to use, water boiler, and room has a safe box with big mirror. Air purifier was set on aitomati which I really appreciated. Futon and mattress were already there. It was one perfect beautiful lovely stay. Its beside family mart and footpath. I just loved it so much that I am out of words to describe it. I wanted to go to Gasho village and the Ryokan van dropped me at no additional cost and offered to pick if I needed to come back. They do sell Gasho village tickets and onsen pass also . When you complete checking, you will be asked to pick Yukata of your choice as per desighs and sizes available. Very organised process and you can buy the souvenirs in here and pretty much in all Ryokans. They provide drop service to station. Oh yes, their onsen has roses 🌹. Room has a tv and table for dining. Over all, my experience with Kisoya is 5 stars 🌟
- Asmaa (10/5): Exceptional - The room was great, the futon bed very confortable, the onsen was great and definitely a highlight.
I would definitely book my stay again there next time. Nothing I can think of
