- Annie (8/5): - Clean room with 2 twin beds.and cute decor. Just was very attentive. Attached pub (Railway Tavern) had a friendly atmosphere, and best English breakfast on our tip so far!
- Robert (6/5): Inconsiderate guests and poor customer service. - The room itself was clean and comfortable. No proper instructions were sent regarding accessing the room (which is via a key safe). Luckily, the girl in the pub had a scrap of paper with the details. I didn't see anyone from the hotel itself during my stay. There is a small kitchen with a breakfast bar (seating for two people), fridge, toaster etc but no sink. During my stay the room was being used to store three bikes belonging to other guests which I think is incredibly inconsiderate. What I find even more disturbing though, is the fact that they were allowed to do it. Either the management condones the practice or they were unaware. The latter suggests a lack of supervision of the property which I find disturbing. I sent an email the next day but have yet to receive a reply. Very poor customer service.
- Chaplain Barry (10/5): - A very clean and comfortable place. The rooms were very nice and the beds quite comfortable. The bathrooms were up to date and there was plenty of hot water. The pub next door was very hand for a drink and breakfast in the morning. Very friendly staff.
- Alain (2/5): Poor experience and no response to complaints - Similar commination problems with owner as others have reported. No info on how to access room (pub next door helped even though they have nothing to do with the hotel anymore despite the photos). Owner said txt had ben sent but had left phone at home so couldn’t say who she’d sent it to. After stay, no response to complaints after several attempts to contact requesting refund (saying she cannot read Hotels.com messages when they contacted her). Complaints were: 1. Toilet seat fell off toilet – not attached to unit 2. Water bottle stopper had mould growing in it 3. Breakfast – make it yourself but nowhere to eat it (no table / chair in room and tiny communal table in room where ingredients stored 4. Flies flew out of breakfast fridge when opened 5. Bed mattress old and worn out 6. WiFi inoperable How can she run a business like this? Stay somewhere else.
- Sheena (6/5): - It was a lovely little Inn and the Village area very pretty. The room itself was nice; however smaller than what was expected as was the bed which was not that comfortable. We seemed to be the only people there which I found odd given when I booked it appeared the Inn was sold out. Breakfast was do it yourself with bread, cereal etc available in a small room next to the entrance. There is no one on site and instructions for getting in were provided by email. The room would be great for one person. The bathroom and room were clean ( carpet a bit dated). We only stayed one night on our way through I don’t think this place would have worked if we had planned to stay longer. I understand the Inn might be under new ownership or a new operator. There is a for sale sign in the outside. Overall it worked but as noted room and bed smaller than expected.

The ensuite was very petite, good sized shower plenty of hot water at a good pressure. The toilet area was cramped, tight to use. Great cooked breakfast Charming pub very friendly staff and locals. On road parking which was fine. Easy to find space to park.
- Linda (10/5): Good stay - Disappointed that the bed was not a king size as stated. Also no pizzas this time as they were brilliant last time we stayed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): No parking, tiny bathroom, very unwelcoming - The details on the Hotel.com website stated "parking available" which usually indicates a hotel managed car park, unfortunately the parking was on the road. I would advise future guests not to park under the trees otherwise your car will be covered in sap. Additionally, the website stated pay at the hotel where a receipt / invoice will be given, unfortunately, the hotel do not appear to be aware of this as they took the money from my card without me present and on check out could not provide me with a VAT receipt. Business travellers need to be aware of this for expenses. For the price of the room I would expect a bigger bathroom, this one was basically toilet wide, a tiny sink impossible to wash in without flooding the floor, with a shower that does not drain very well and when the toilet is flushed water comes up the shower drain! I would have reported this issue but the person in charge of hospitality probably needs some customer service training as they were extremely off hand and unhelpful. After a very long and tiring journey a nice welcome, without a dog jumping up at you, would be nice. I must admit I was also unprofessional with my dealings with them, but a calm non-passive aggressive response from them may have helped diffuse the situation. Thanks

- Valerie (10/5): - The hosts were very helpful. The night we stayed the only two restaurants nearby were closed, so we got takeaway from a chip shop and were allowed to eat in the bar using plates and cutlery. This is a handy location for visiting Vindolanda and Hadrian’s Wall.

No evening meals, breakfast (I had 2 fried eggs cooked lovely) but the toast was thin white bread already buttered (ha) wanted i total 4 slices only got 2, was asked if i wanted anything else (declined). 😢 The main thing NO heating mentioned it and was told the barman on duty said have told me to put it on.. It is only a B&B and definiatly not worth 110 POUNDS. The web site said you could see Vindolanda from the Hotel!! and the room i booked was the last one and there was only me and another couple in the place!!

- Jason (10/5): Brilliant beds matched by excellent location - This was a trip, to give us a bit of luxury, I it definitely delivered for a reasonable price.. Brilliant location great for the Roman The room was of excellent quality with beds that you need a passport to travel from one side to the other😁 My only niggles with the property are to do with the en suite. The size is a tad small but not a major issue and I expect as this is a period property getting any type of ensuite in there is a miracle. The shower had great pressure one of the best around but I suspect the poor showerhead struggled to stay in place and you needed careful adjustment of the temp and flow control to get things just right. Staying with the ensuite the toilet seat gave the impression of wanting to break free and didn't give the confidence that I was looking for. Finally finish on a high after a couple of minor niggles. The breakfast is amazing just the right size and amazing quality products.

- Leona (10/5): Fabulous food. - A charming old pub/hotel in a lovely location. The accommodation was exactly what would be expected in such a property - good, clean and comfortable. Owner and staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. However, we had expected the usual ‘pub food’ type of menu but were instead treated to the most delicious and innovative dinners freshly prepared by the chef. An eating experience well worth a return visit. Superb!

Unfortunately the parking is on the street outside although there wasn’t an issue getting near to the hotel. A member of staff was willing to help with our belongings. The staff were all very good. The food was lovely, especially the evening menu. Would highly recommend this hotel overall.

- John (6/5): - Searched for hotel in Hexham and booked one through Expedia which gave name as Railway Hotel, Hexham but discovered hotel is actually in Haydon Bridge, six miles from Hexham. Another misleading thing was that it was stated that hotel had free parking, which we assumed meant hotel had car park but in fact the free parking was on the street, if a space could be found! Hotel itself was OK and had nice bar where meals were served. Staff very friendly, and Haydon Bridge is actually good location for visiting Roman forts of Vindolanda, Housesteads and Chesters.
