Guest Reviews
- Nicolette (9/5): Onverwacht op deze heerlijke plek terecht gekomen - De badkamer, de slaapkamer, het ontbijt, de beergarden. Het eten was vrij smakeloos en daarvoor te duur.
- John (10/5): - Fantastic hotel in a lovely little village with an excellent bar/ restaurant friendly staff and great breakfast
- Bridgeman (9/5): Very enjoyable - Very good Room getting a little tired
- Michael (10/5): Excellent service, great breakfast -
- Susan (10/5): Fantastic dog friendly stay - It was really lovely, staff friendly and very helpful. We booked a room for our dog to stay with us it was a great size, lovely room, lots of little extra touches, even a doggie bag with treats. We ate there for both nights as food was lovely and dog was welcome. Nothing.
- Wes (8/5): Would stay again. - Lovely vibe in the pub. TV didn’t work but they got it going for us.
- Barrie (10/5): - The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable. Food was delicious, we had our evening meal and breakfast both of which were fantastic Nothing
- Philip (9/5): Good value and comfortable. - comfortable, clean and slightly quirky. If I had to be picky the TV reception wasn't great.
- Dean (9/5): Great value for money - The room was fantastic, really spacious family room with the sofa bed out, futon & a massive double there was still plenty of room. Very nice.
- Harvey (8/5): The staff made our visit, particularly Jawui and Adele. - Breakfast excellent. Staff exceptional. Different building for food. Not good if raining.
- rodney (10/5): Exceeded expectations the food and customer care was excellent - Excellent choice and good quality N/A
- Andrew (10/5): We had a wonderful stay, great breakfast and food in the pub. Our bedroom was comfortable and all the extra thoughts in - Great location. Friendly staff, good food, plenty of parking, comfortable rooms. Only observation is that my 90 year old father stayed in a front ground floor bedroom and a handrail down the steps into bathroom would have been useful and a grad rail in shower.
- Sally-Anne (8/5): - The staff were professional and friendly.
Room was clean and spacious.
Evening meal was slightly overpriced we thought. Breakfast good
- Derek (10/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Great stay at this exceptional pub, with a nice restaurant and very good staff - Lovely room with very comfy bed. Food was great too and the staff were fabulous. Nothing
- Seyed Mohammadali (8/5): - Being adjacent to the pub is an amazing point for especially solo travellers. Lively local atmosphere and amazing feeling with fantastic breakfast and friendly staff. Do my best to come back soon 👌
- Deborah (10/5): Wonderful hotel with a top notch restaurant - This property is so charming, had parking and a fabulous restaurant. They gave us a private room to have dinner before our gig. There was a beautiful garden that our room overlooked and the bed was very comfortable. Absolutely nothing.
- Amanda (10/5): Beautiful room, amazing staff, great food, perfect location - The room was lovely, very clean and comforable, very good facilities in the room. The staff were all so lovely and attentive, very friendly and could not do enough for you. The outside of the property looked stunning with lots of planting to create colour and there is a very good sized car park. The food was very very good, great choices on the menus, and breakfast as something to look forward to. Nothing that the staff could have done, but the chinese across the road made a lot of noise with engines running and car doors opening and closing, loud voices and generally oblivious that there are guests staying across the road while they were in and out for deliveries. This did stop when it closed so wasn't a major issue.
The door to my room shook and shuddered every time someone came in and out of the main front doors so perhaps a foam insulating tape could prevent that just inside the frame? and also, the internal door inside the front door has a really loud squeak so the hinges could do with some oil.
The carpet in my room is in need of replacing, you could tell the room as clean, but the carpet was stained in a few areas which is an easy fix
- Stephen (9/5): - We very much enjoyed the excellent breakfasts served by Sarah Jane. Our room.ead was clean and comfortable.
- ALISON (10/5): A gem - Delicious… full English So enjoyable
- Richard (10/5): -
- Tim (10/5): Brilliant - Everything Nothing
- Vicky (10/5): Absolutely lovely - Peaceful Nothing
- Ed (9/5): Fantastic pub hotel - I've stayed here quite a few times and will continue to if the property is not fully booked after all the good reviews I've left! Easy parking, fantastic staff, amazing restaurant and great breakfast. Some noise from other rooms and doors, etc but it is an old building!
- Rupert (10/5): -
- Janet (9/5): Great value for money in a lovely pub - The bed was very comfortable, the room was very clean and had everything we needed for a few nights stay. The room was in a separate building beside the pub. This had the disadvantage that you have to go outside to get to breakfast but the advantage that you aren't over the very popular bar and restaurant. The food was very good, a nice selection for breakfast and the dinners we had were well cooked and reasonably priced. There was nothing we didn't like.
- Adrian (9/5): - Clean, nice breakfast, good location Everything fine
- Tula (8/5): Very good stay and the restaurant was really good - The breakfast was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful The heating and difficulty with opening the windows
- Graham (9/5): -
- Graham (10/5): Fantastic friendly service - great value ! - Staff are so friendly, providing great service.
- danny (4/5): Too noisy - Clean and tidy room and nice welcome Room 6 was very noisy right next to a busy room... I had little sleep and couldn't even face brekkie... I wouldn't stay again
- Sophia (10/5): -
- Louise (7/5): Great value stay - For the price it was a great find. Comfortable room , friendly staff & loved the Land & Water toiletries !
- cheri (4/5): Could have been better - The bedding was crisp and clean and the bed extremely comfortable. The room was warm. The bathroom was the size of a small wardrobe. My partner didn’t have space to shave. The shelf for toiletries and toothbrushes was directly above the toilet so not hygienic. The building is old- which has its understandable quirks, but it’s no exaggeration to say that we could not see out in the morning for condensation on the windows
- Richard (10/5): Great staff, location and room. - Clean, tidy warm, smells great and the staff were great, would go above and beyond. No issues
- John (10/5): - the meal in the evening was disappointing. my husband’s steak was inedible.
- Kevin (8/5): -
- Liz (10/5): Luxurious and relaxing stay with a great pub too. - Excellent value for money. Extremely comfortable and well appointed room. And an excellent welcome too. So good, we have already booked a return stay next month!
- Phil (7/5): Great night meal and stay ruined by the morning experience - Good evening meal
Comfy bed and room Was rushed out told I paid for breakfast wasn’t offered key was taken and she went back to the coffee machine and invoice will be sent 4 days later still no invoice
Was busy in the pub one staff member loads tof people in the bar so think was stressed but I lost out and after being left for a while she came over and wasn’t the friendliest
- Adam (9/5): Lovely comfortable stay - Lovely designed, thought out and plush bed The bathroom was cold, only a towel radiator which wasn’t sufficient for the size of the room with high ceilings
- Will (9/5): Very good value for money, excellent breakfast, will definitely stay here again. - Lovely big room, warm. Very nice shower and bathroom Nothing
- Wellington (10/5): -
- Ed (8/5): Great pub / B&B - I think this is my 4th stay and I'll keep going back if there is a room to be had! Easy parking, staff that have always made me feel incredibly welcome, decent rooms and a spot on pub for dinner. The breakfast is also top notch! The sound insulation between rooms is not great and the shower was weak. Not so much as it would ever put me off but....
- Renate (9/5): Tolles Quartier-Preis-Leistung passt - Frühstück im tollen Pub!
Zimmer im Nebengebäude
ausreichend Parkplätze vorhanden Es gibt nichts zu beanstanden!
- Michael (10/5): Our family had an excellent stay - We had a small family crisis and needed accommodation at short notice with two small children. The staff at the Rose and Crown could not have been more helpful or accommodating. Beds for the children were set up at very short notice assuring us of a comfortable stay. The Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice for both adults and children. We had no complaints
- stephen (10/5): -
- Helen (9/5): Perfect stay for the start of our Two Moors Walk - Lots of character yet well refurbished with modern facilities. Plenty of car parking and being able to leave the car safely. Nothing
- Gail (10/5): Great find ! - Great hotel only a few miles outside Plymouth.
Pretty area . Great food and helpful staff would stay again.
- Andy Hill (10/5): - Nice and clean room with lovely staff in the pub and a nice breakfast
- Martin (10/5): - Excellent Nothing
- Eric (9/5): -
- Caroline (7/5): Nice place if you like cold food - Friendly staff food both at dinner and breakfast was cold. At dinner we did tell the waiter who removed 3 plates of food meaning our daughter ate on her own, we were given a free round of drinks and 3 desserts to compensate. But when we had breakfast the next day this was also all cold - we couldn't be bothered to raise this and left without telling anyone. But as the weekend was supposed to be to celebrate husbands birthday and our daughter travelled from London with her husband to join us it was really disappointing. Regarding the rooms we can only say how useless the showers were and such a tiny sink too!! Rather disappointing but the room decor was nice.
- Naomi (9/5): -
- Simon (5/5): Good value, frosty room - Breakfast was great. Overall good value. The room was freezing on arrival, as was my friend’s room too. First impressions count. Would have been very easy for the staff to have turned the heating on beforehand.
Very pleasant pub and good food. Wifi code or connectivity instructions would be useful.
- Rosie (10/5): - Amazing breakfast. Lovely room. Lovely staff. Such good value for money. Nothing!
- James (8/5): A very pleasant and comfortable stay. Would certainly consider staying here if visiting Plymouth. - The room was spacious, comfortable and bed very comfortable. Had all the facilities we needed - including a nice extra, a pillow spray for relaxation!
We had a meal in the pub - good choice of food and we were very happy with the quality. Breakfast was equally good. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
Location close to Plymouth but not in the town was perfect for us. Room was quite cold when we first arrived (had to put heating on full as soon as we arrived) - bathroom had no heating so was decidedly chilly in what was a cold and frosty night.
- Joanne (8/5): Almost perfect stay - room is great but not a great night's sleep - Really nice room, better than the photos! Huge bathroom, nice and clean.
Quiet at the top of the building and the rooms are not above the pub which was an unexpected bonus.
Coffee and biscuits in the room was a nice touch as well as menus for the pub so we could look ahead of time.
Nice toiletries in the bathroom too. It was a very cold weekend and the room was quite chilly. It had two radiators and only one was on so it took a while for the other to make a difference. The rads were not very hot even when turned up. The towel rail in the bathroom was not on so the bathroom was freezing too. Took a while to figure out how to turn it on!
There's no hooks to hang your coats - that would be a good addition 😉
The main issue though was comfort. The pillows were flat and hard and we only had one each. Found another in a cupboard but no pillow cases on the spares. The mattresses (the king-size bed is two singles together and could benefit from a topper so you can't feel the join) were soft. This is absolutely personal preference but a soft mattress is no good for my back and I couldn't get comfy and when I woke I was stiff and achy instead of refreshed. If you like a softer mattress then you'll love this room!
Finally, the TV is a smart TV but doesn't connect to the WiFi. So you can't use any of the smart features or mirror streamed content from your phone. We were in the middle of a series and hoped to get in a few episodes but were unable to connect which was a shame. I'd forgotten how woeful the options are on terrestrial telly!
- Lee (10/5): -
- Sherry (8/5): - Had a lovely stay. Bed was very comfy.
Dinner was lovely and so was breakfast.
- Gillian (10/5): - Nice pub food
- Charlie (10/5): Nice rooms, good food and friendly, helpful staff - We’ve stayed here a few times and it’s always great. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Adele who cleaned our room beautifully and made sure we had everything we needed. We loved her Christmas elf outfit too :) Nothing
- Jonathan (9/5): Great stay. Very nice, spacious room and excellent staff team - Room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was superb and staff team very friendly.
- videoandfilm (9/5): Enjoyable, comfy and good food experience - Friendly and efficient staff. Comfortable room (a bit on the chilly side which I prefer - wasn;t sure the thermostat on the radiator was accurate but didn't care to "fiddle") Excellent breakfast and a very comfy bed. Thought the price a bit high tbh but within my financial tolerances.
- Mel Halstead (10/5): Fab pub and hotel with great vibes - Room was lovely, spacious and clean When we arrived it said we had a booking for 2 people but I had confirmation through booking com for 3 adults. It did send me into a panic as we had driven for 7 hiurs to get there but the staff quickly reassured me it was an error on the system and that they would go make another bed up. They were promt and very polite and dealt with the issue proffesionally.
Drinks at the bar were very expensive, but its to be expected and we are tight yorkshire lasses!
- james (8/5): -
- John (7/5): -
- Timothy (9/5): -
- MIKE (10/5): - All good All good 👍
- Philip (9/5): Nice stay - Comfortable room, good sleep, very friendly, helpful staff, nice well priced food
- Mark (9/5): Great staff, food and room was very comfortable - Xcellent all round. Room had a slight damp smell - dehumidifier to cope.
- jonathan (8/5): Exceeded expectations with very good food and excellent staff - Excellent breakfast with local produce
- Brent (9/5): -
- Julie (8/5): Elevated Pub Stay in Sweet Small Town - The location is great in the small town, you can easily do walks, there are 2 pubs, a restaurant, and easy to scoot around via car. The staff were very friendly and the food at the pub was very good and there is a great fireplace inside :) Book in advance. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed and coffee machine. At first we had a room on the main road which we could hear the cars. They assured us it would quiet down at night but as this was our break from the city we asked to be moved to a quieter room which they accommodated for no problem.
- Tracy (9/5): The room, which was in another building to the main pub was quiet and comfortable. The pub was filled with a very comfo - The ambiance of the Rose & Crown is relaxed & happy. The staff were excellent. The room was cosy and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was old and the tap needs some attention.
- Kaz Mason (9/5): A Little Gem that was unexpected. Brilliant Place - Friendly staff, room quaint, and had all the facilities you require. Some nice little touches in the room. The food was exceptionally good I don't think there was anything I didn't like
- Michael (8/5): -
- Clare (9/5): Highly recommended for really looking after guests with kindness. - The staff we met were, without exception, kind and helpful.
We were arriving after the restaurant closed, so they organised delicious cold club sandwiches for our arrival. Comfortable bed, both bedroom and spacious bathroom were very clean and well-equipped.
Breakfast was excellent.
They welcome dogs. The kettle in our room malfunctioned, but they assured us with apologies that it would be dealt with.
- Natasha (10/5): - Lovely staff, v friendly and helpful. Rooms big and bath such a bonus. Beautiful products in bathroom. Great dinner. All great value for money Bathroom a little chilly
- Jason (10/5): Lovely place, would stop again, quiet room away from the actual pub, lovely food and a decent pint. - Lovely room, nice it was away from the actual pub so very quiet, nice little garden at the rear. Breakfast and dinner was lovely. Nothing really.
- Pete (9/5): Great stay. Great staff and comfortable room. - Great staff and food. Room was excellent for the money. Only slight quibble was the WiFi in the room dropped out quite a bit
- jane (10/5): Book, you will not be disappointed - The welcome, the food, the room, the comfortable bed, the amazing breakfast and the price.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be recommending to friends and family. I will be back. The restaurant/pub was busy but the wait for food was quick. Staff were lovely and so was the manager.Honestly, such a lovely surprise, wasn't expecting such a wonderful stay The fact that we hadn't booked for 2 nights
- Martin (8/5): Weekend stay - The room was nice, clean and welcoming, the bed was really comfortable allowing for a good night's sleep, tea and coffee facilities are provided, ideal for a little break away. Food was nice in the pub and if you opted in for breakfast you get a small buffet lay out of pastries, cereals, fruit, Greek yogurt, and juices and also get something to choose from the breakfast menu.
Would I stay here again, yes..!! Only thing I would say I didn't like was the shower was on the small side and the electric shower unit couldn't regulate temperature well but was ok to jump in and out off but the room and ensuit is well kept.
- Josh (10/5): -
- Hill (9/5): -
- June (7/5): -
- Rachelle (10/5): -
- Ruth (8/5): Lovely stay. - Comfortable stay. Ideal for what we needed it for. Stayed here before hence our return. Car park was busy so could be an issue for parking.
- David (7/5): Fine for a brief stop over - We were a group of four friend hiking in the area. We found the hotel functional and the parking convenient. The restaurant was busy and the menu extensive. Our rooms were in the annex and right on the road, with no double glazing, so somewhat noisy. They were otherwsie comfotable, although the shower controls were a bit eccentric. The staff were competent enough but seemed rather disengaged, as they were in the last St Austell's Brewery pub we stayed in.
- Sheila (8/5): -
- William (5/5): Restaurant good. They could do better with the accommodation! - Very friendly staff. Nice restaurant! Bathroom was very smelly. Damp!
- Gordon (9/5): Good value for money - Excellent selection of food for both breakfast and dinner The carpet in our room needed replacing
- Ty (10/5): Great overnight stay at the end of a week walking the SWCP - Lovely welcoming pub, great atmosphere in the bar/restaurant and excellent menu and food. Our room was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed provided. Nothing.
- Alan (10/5): - Great staff, clean and tidy.
- Julie (10/5): What a delightful Inn - offers small luxury accom - Pure bespoke boutique luxury. A lovely surprise in a quaint little village. The meals were restaurant quality served in pleasant surroundings, with delightful staff. My pet hate is being served nice wine in a thick ugly cheap glass - not here, fine beautiful glassware - Perfect stay Probably the only small dislike was the tiny coffin sized shower, but this is such a small issue compared to the whole package.
Highly recommend this little gem.
- Trev (10/5): -
- Nina (8/5): Alles Ok!
- Mark (6/5): Roomnoise spoilt lovely brief stay - Excellent, friendly, helpful staff and good food. Room furnishings lovely - however room was very noisy from road, plumbing noise very time other rooms used water. Windows faced onto pavement but no screening for privacy. We did have a lovely breakfast regardless of lack of sleep.
- Wishart (10/5): What a Great find for a stay! - Lovely large clean room with ensuite bathroom and everything finished to high standard. Private garden area was lovely feature as well as two pub gardens and outside tables etc. Evening meals and breakfasts were first class. All staff very friendly and helpful. Well definitely be looking to stay again in future when we're in the area. A lovely little find on Booking.com! Nothing bad to report
