That room was all I needed - neat and up to standard. When I payed their amount was more than the online booking indicated - I had to proof that my booking was R100 less

The host, Madeleine, was gracious and accommodating. Being in a suburb, the neighbour's dogs barking in the morning. The extractor fan in the bathroom taking about 15 minutes to switch off.

The water pressure was too low thereafter to let the gas geyser ignite the flame, so we had to shower in cold water. They can also think of placing a trash can in the bathroom.

This wasn’t a problem for us but there is a relatively narrow, unpaved path and steps up the outside of the building to access the upstairs unit.

No complaints at all and nice vibe and decor Great neighborhood There was no intercom system when arriving and a closed gate so no way to get anybody attention to enter. It took us a while to get the attention of the cleaning person who then contacted the owner. If owner is not responding to phone call as maybe busy with something else...what do you do? wait at the gate until somebody might see you to enter? This creates a very unprofessional atmosphere and reduces the welcome feeling.

Aadil (9/5): We would book it over and over again - Loved It. Quintessential and adorable. - Avo & Oak is a hidden Gem just as you enter beautiful George. It is nestled in a cosy little suburban area and is a beautiful, well designed modern interpretation of South African interiors that blew us away. We adored all the cute little touches, like the festoon lights in Dark passage ways, the clever dual usage of vintage elements in a very modern mix of style was brilliantly and practically adapted. It all worked so well. The wood , the metal the cosy contrast of elements- we were just pleasantly surprised and happy every single time we were there, felt like a dream space. A home away from home. But better. The house lady was sweet, respectful to our space and privacy and we were given remotes for the main gate. She was so accommodating and that allowed for us to get an earlier start to our day and intense itinerary- which was a blessing. The helper was always sweet and pleasant. I would suggest a daily clean up of dishes though, that would really be the cherry on the top. The “3 day change of linens”system works well Rooms not serviced daily impacts time on vacation. Might have been missed on our side. The house lady though was very accommodating and still accommodated us in this regard to help us. Kitchen could do with a bit more kitchen essentials to assist a family who need to eat in , but nothing that could not be managed.

The hosts (Madeline and her husband) were fantastic. She made great recommendations for family cafes and restaurants. My kids loved all of them. The guest house is in a quiet and beautiful area. But at the same time it is a very short drive to everything (shopping, restaurants, etc.). Would definitely recommend Avo&Oak if you are staying at George.

Smit (9/5): Superb - We stayed in the self-catering apartment that was fully equipped with fresh milk. That is always a plus for me. The apartment was situated on the second floor with a balcony. It was completely private, and all views were in adjacent gardens and trees. The host was friendly and helpful.
Pamela (7/5): Gorgeous room - perfect for a quick stay - We loved the beautiful clean contemporary decor of the rooms. We appreciated having the mini fridge, plates, cutlery. We loved that we were in one of the oldest suburbs with huge trees - beautiful area. We felt a bit vulnerable with no burglar bars and the property being easily accessible. The bedroom windows were really hard to open and close. There was no safe to leave valuables while out for the day. It is important to note that these are self catering rooms - so they do not provide any daily service of the rooms. It is even more important to note that there are no communal facilities like a normal guesthouse. So if you book one of the rooms we booked - there is no table to sit outside in the garden and eat. The manager kindly let us use the table on the other side of the property linked to the apartment. The rooms are self catering - but there is no table to sit and eat at in the room.
