- CRAIG (6/5): - Travelers arrived at their destinations in all kinds of different conditions and circumstances. Many have been on difficult flights, some have come for difficult, family reasons, others, like myself have driven over 1000 miles over the course of 16 hours for a family event. The role of a hotel receptionist should be to take help take the edge off of a travelers anxieties, make them feel welcome, give them the easy button. They’re always in an excellent position to do so, and so I’m blown away when they don’t, or when they choose to add more anxiety or resistance to the travelers journey, despite the fact that the job they hold is in fact possible because of these very travelers. Checking into the hotel today about an hour ahead of the official check-in time, I didn’t have any particular expectation that I would be able to get into my room and that was fine, but I didn’t need a lecture from the 20 something-year-old receptionist that made it very clear to me that I was asking for an exception that was not within the policy of the property. If she had smiled, and maybe offered to get me a bottle of water, or suggest that I enjoy a little downtime in the waiting area while she checked in with housekeeping to see what she could do, that would’ve been fine, anything, but she did none of that. She just asserted her authority and made sure I understood who was in charge. It didn’t matter that my eyes were glazed over from 1000 miles of highway, or that I was tired and about to drop.

- Global621777 (4/5): Wet Dog - We checked in late about 4:30pm and were told by the front desk we would have to wait 20 to 30 minutes for a room to be cleaned. I’m almost positive check in time was 3 o’clock so that didn’t make sense to us. After we had traveled for close to five hours and we had early dinner plans that we need to get cleaned up for, we asked to speak to a manager. The front desk clerk came back and said that I can give you a different room. When we went to our room as soon as I went in, the wet dog smell was so strong. There was a person who was cleaning outside of our room and I asked about the smell. She shrugged her shoulders and said there’s also a dog next-door to your room. We immediately left and went back down to the front desk again, asked to speak to a manager for the 2nd time but again he/she did not come out to speak to us. The front desk clerk came back out and said I can give you a different room. Luckily this time it was on a different floor and did not have any bad smells. Unfortunately, this experience was not a good start to our stay/trip and something I would not have expected from a Hampton.

But you still charge a premium price. The condition of the room was disgusting: peeling wallpaper, mold or dirt all over the baseboards and corners, everything looked grungy. Even the repairs that were made, caulking for example, were sloppy and half-ass. Have your staff no pride in their work? The beds were horrible- what youd expect yo find in a Motel 6, or some other $69 night motel. Matress was 10 years old as evidenced by manufacture date on the mattress label. Hard as a rock and the coils poked through the matrress into my back. They squeaked loudly if you shifted your weight in the bed. I Googled the make, model and serial #: $300 mattress. Way to go, Hilton! And, finally, the drapes were hung on a track that did not run the width of the window - they only hung on the sides. Could not closed. The only privacy was a white lace, see thru panel which did not block nor dim the bright exterior lights from shining in my face all night, and lighting up the room. Dont waste your money here. A huge disappointment for this former Hilton fan.

There was a tour group that had a little too many members to accommodate the breakfast area. It may have been a rare occurrence but other guests had difficulty finding tables and wound up eating in their rooms.

The way the bed is parallel with the tv set is the strangest set up we have ever had in a motel room. Very difficult to watch tv in bed without straining your neck. The pillows were disgraceful no support at all.

The people working at breakfast were great. It was just outside Albany so it was not too crowded or loud, which we appreciated. It was also near restaurants, so we had a lot of options for dinner. The pool was the greatest highlight for our family. Not much. Overall, it was a very nice hotel.

- Tamylin (8/5): Overall a good stay - Close to family area was clean. Front desk staff helpful. I had to extend my stay by a day due to an unexpected family wake and doing that was hassle free. The keys kept stop working even when we did not place them near anything at least 4 times had to go back to front desk. Sensor light in bathroom worked ok until you were showering and would shut off mid way which is a bit inconvenient when shaving one’s legs.

- Stephanie (8/5): - This was a quiet property, which was just what we wanted. We stayed here after seeing a show at the MVP Arena- it was a quick 10-11 minute Uber away. The hotel room was clean, comfortable, and had everything you could need. The only negative thing we noticed was that our bathroom door did not close. It was a “barn door” but there was no latch so as soon as we closed it, it rolled back open. We had to secure it closed with one of our bags. Other than that, we loved the room and the property.
