We never could make the shower work. Water came out of the faucet but we could not figure the “ trick” to get it to come out of the shower head. There was no ice in the ice machine. There were difficulties in “ signing in” to access TV channels. The closet looked nasty due to no updates being done.

My husband left his hearing aid charger and they even mailed it back to us quickly! We liked everything. We couldn't get ceiling fan to work, but it wasn't a problem.
- Kristen (8/5): Great value for the money, fantastic breakfast included, comfortable and quaint stay - I only stayed one night on my way back to Texas but the property was easy to find. Parking was on the street right in front of the front door so that made it easy to load/unload luggage. Had no issues getting keys. The room itself was cute and the bed was very comfortable. I attended both the wine welcome and the breakfast at the sister property nearby. The breakfast was amazing and the staff very friendly. I unfortunately did not have time to do the mansion tour after breakfast. While not really a problem, the property is old and as such there are lots of creaks as you move around. With the rooms being so close to each other it can be quite noisy with people moving around. Once everyone was asleep though it was quiet. As I had the room with the bathroom across the hall, having to get up in the night to go to the bathroom I did my best to be as quiet as possible.

- John (7/5): This historic room was charming and fun to stay at with the exception of a few things that could be easily remedied. - It was a historic site with spacious rooms in the historic district. We really liked the four poster bed. The breakfast at the mansion was charming, tasty, and served by wonderful ladies in a spacious historic room. There was mold on the vents, the fan and some furniture were very dusty, we found trash and dirt behind the nightstands, and we had an extremely large cockroach come to visit. The pillows were also very hard and we ran out of hot water.

Fantastic Tour after breakfast giving the history of the house and the town. Only a short walk down hill to the main street (Cola-cola museum; River museum; shops and restaurants). Only stayed one night but enjoyed it. The room is part of the historic story, but that makes it quite dark and dated - but part of the story!

- joseph (10/5): - The location and the comfort of the room The people turning off the AC, and their were a couple from Texas were complaining about how I parked my car and told me I should move to accommodate them better.
- Bill (7/5): - I love when someone takes something old and historically significant (building dated early 1800s) and renovates. Walk up from parking area. I used the road which is quite steep because the outer steps up have no hand rails, there are loose brick and a noodle is loose. You could park on road in front but it's got traffic, is narrow and there is some foot traffic as well.

They had a wedding party in the house & we felt that we were an afterthought. Also they need a curtain in the bathroom window. We will not stay here again or recommend it to anyone.

Hot, so finally went to shade in back & called so at least 20 min in hot weather before we could check in. Rented thru hotels.com so surprised not private bath but worked out since only ones renting, Breakfast/tour at Duff Green home excellent, Place was excellent except for welcome challenging & no private bath. Suggest marking all 3 keys for place so know bath, bedroom, front door apart. We enjoyed our stay, a highlight with added Duff Green house breakfast/tour.

- E. (10/5): A Very Nice Stay - We stayed in Mae-Mae's Room at the Steele Cottage and it was great for our needs. Well appointed, conveniently located and easily accessible, yet removed from the core downtown area for privacy. The breakfast service at the Duff Green Mansion B&B was good for a first morning, but the 3+ block walk is not directly toward the main part of downtown and the river. I suggest equipping the Steele Cottage with bottled waters and snack items in each room for optimal convenience.

Civil War enthusiasts this is a must see city, from the museums to the USS Cairo gunboat and battlefield monuments to the final resting place of Douglas the confederate camel.

We got chance to chat with other travelers stayed at the Steele Cottage over the lovely breakfast, it was a warm Southern experience! The Steel Cottage was as beautiful as the picture shows, and the rooms and bathrooms are super clean. The coffee/water conner was generously set up. We strongly recommend the Steele Cottage if you plan to visit Vicksburg, which is a must see place along the Mississippi River!

As well as the great Walnut Inn across the street was excellent. Communication via text with Steele was very good. No problems They were out of coffee cups both days. Only had lids. Everything else was fine. It wasn't quite what I expected for the price for 2 nights but it was good.

It advertises a pool - but the pool is not at the house but at a large house 10 mins walk away. The description should also make clear that breakfast is served at the other large house 10 minutes walk away. Having said that the other house (The Duff House) is a spectacular mansion house and a pleasure to visit.

Parking in back was challenging, with many mossy steps and no handrail. Shower mildewed. Towels very thin. No soap for shower. Trash still in bathroom can upon arrival. No window covering in bathroom. Many empty k-pods in living room, but only 1 that was unused. Glasses dusty. Bed made with just a sheet. Blanket in closet was not full-sized. And, it is not a bed and breakfast if you have to drive to breakfast.

- Gondell, (5/5): I rented this room after being fooled by all of the great reviews on this property. Never again! - I'm trying but can't seem to come up with anything. This is basically an old house with antique furniture and no real comfort after a long day on the road. Walls appear paper thin so forget about any privacy during your stay. A bit of a strange feeling trying to enter and exit the bathroom while trying to get the stuck door to slide back and forth into the wall. Novel at least. Coffee maker, small ice machine, and small refrigerator in living room shared by all of the guests in the house. Free breakfast if you are willing to drive or walk around a half of a mile through a bit of a sketchy area. This should have been explained in the description of the listing. Limited overnight parking on street did not feel safe especially with razor wire topped jail on the adjacent corner. Was charged additional pet fee two days later that was never mentioned in any of the over dozen emails and texts detailing instructions for my stay.

- Rebecca (8/5): Cute cottage with a great breakfast expeirence in the historic mansion - It was a cute cottage with unique antique furniture throughout. Easy check in process with a lock box. The breakfast and tour of the history at Duff Green was certainly a unique and worthwhile experience and the mansion is a beautiful historic property! The lady who gave us a tour was very knowledgeable and friendly. The bathroom could’ve been cleaner. The toilet wasn’t flushed and the bin wasn’t emptied when we arrived, a bit of dusting would’ve been good too. Bed was very creaky as well but I guess that’s to be expected with antique furniture. Overall was a decent stay though.
- Nikki (10/5): Comfortable and cozy. - We stayed in the Mae-Mae room. Very clean and comfortable. Exceptional water pressure and temperature. Bathroom had shampoo and body wash along with hand soap. Very cozy historic home in a quiet neighborhood. Room was exactly like pictures posted on booking site. Great location, walking distance to restaurants and attractions. Loved the free breakfast and tour of the Duff Green Mansion, make sure to take advantage. Staff was easy to get a hold of and very helpful. Checkin is around the back of house off China street. We would definitely stay there again. Bathroom window needs a shade or curtain.

- Lawrence (10/5): We’d love to stay there again on future trips! - Loved the mansion — as antique lovers, this place is quite a monumental display of antiquities. Did not like the place on Adams street. However, Rick took care of us and situated us in the mansion which worked perfectly.

- Cheryl (8/5): Southern history in a lovely restored cottage with nice sitting room and porch. - Lovely restored cottage, rocking chairs on a little porch were perfect for a drink or coffee (could use a little table to set the drinks down), easy checkin, and quiet neighborhood. Good restaurant across the street so didn't need to drive. Located right on historic walking tour of Vicksburg, which was very interesting. A small ice machine was dirty and required bottled water of which there was none (owners did respond immediately when I called though). There was a corkscrew, but no wine glasses, and no offer to bring some when I asked--drank my very nice wine from a coffee cup. The breakfast food was very salty (seemed to be the palate in the South, so maybe what others expect). I would still recommend the place, just not top of game for the cottage.

- R6409QMandyc (8/5): Helpful, friendly owners - Helpful, friendly owners as the original room was unsuitable, but they found us a good alternative. They are now aware of the need to clarify their advertisement as 1 room in Steele Cottage does have a separate bathroom, BUT it is not en suite and you have to go across the corridor to it. Room is also quite small and stuffy, but the rest of the facilities are OK. Good breakfasts provided around large tables, so a chance to chat to others and an interesting tour of the main accommodation provided free
- Scott (10/5): Great stop especially if you have time to enjoy - beautifully maintained antebellum property. the breakfast included is in another location, another antebellum historic mansion, the Duff Green. It is a lovely light breakfast. I would recommend this stop if you have a little time to spare to enjoy the history.
- Honei (9/5): Superb - Loved the historic home aspect on the cobble stone streets. Nice rooms and bathroom. Very authentic. Absolutely loved the Duff Green mansion tour after a nice breakfast in the dining area. No extra blanket that was needed
- Woodward (10/5): - What a welcome sight after a long drive! Steele’s Cottage is situated on the heights above Vicksburg’s riverfront and the Mississippi River, in a quiet leafy setting. The cottage is an attractive classic, as was our comfortable room - Mrs. Steele’s Bedroom. We’ll long remember our good night’s sleep, tasty dinner at Rusty’s Riverside Grill, and pleasant breakfast in the elegant Duff Green Mansion. A highly recommended experience!
- Susan (10/5): - Steele Cottage was a charming, well kept, and very clean place to stay. We rented MaeMae's room and liked how it was apart from the other rooms. We also enjoyed having breakfast at the Duff Green Mansion along with touring this home. This was included in the price. We would highly recommend staying here.

There's no temperature control for the room, which is okay in an old house. But an extra blanket would be nice.
