Guest Reviews
- Carl (6/5): Just a little more attention to detail - Staff very welcoming and accommodating. Room needed to be aired out. Pillow or something needed to be washed or replaced.... room smelled like a clothes rack of unwashed second hand clothing found on an op-shop. Price was very good and met my needs
- Richard (6/5): - Good when on a budget. Has all you need in a central location in Thames
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The character of a very old fashion Hotel. Was simply a bed for the night.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Character-filled hotel over 100 years old, but although i didnt go to the bar, i wasn't impressed that it had gambling machines.
- Miki (8/5): - Perfectly clean and welcoming, but skeleton staff. Served our purpose well, somewhere to sleep comfortably.
No information given re availability of breakfast or other meals, despite being attached to a bar/restaurant. Online it says kettle/ coffee/tea making available in rooms but this was not the case.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great room and central to town. Very clean and a good pub stay experience on our way back to airport
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was clean and well furnished. Comfortable.
Website needs to be updated. There is no restaurant existing now. A few choices of counter tea only in bar area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bed was comfortable and shared bathroom was clean. No tv in the room and no jug and toaster. There was a kitchenette down the hall for making tea and toast. Staff were friendly and helpful
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Disappointing stay. Sheets unironed. Had to ask for more tea/coffee/milk - some of which was sour - and towels. Restaurant was closed and apparently will be for some time. No aircon. Only free view tv. Cars could be locked up but had to be in before 9pm and not want to leave before 8am
- Janet (10/5): enjoyed our stay - lovely family, great for a short stay
- WING CHUN (10/5): Good enough - overall is ok unless no air con. Nearby is many restaurants and i have delicious meal. Will stay there again if i visit here again
- Lienette (8/5): Good bang for your buck - It was good for what it was. The man at the desk was super helpful and told us if he needed anything to not be afraid to ask them. The room and especially the beds were clean. Had no issues with the communal bathroom and showers. If you have trouble going up a flight of stairs, this place isn’t for you.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Best beds we experienced in nz. Stayed at 17 places. Friendly staff and great food. Highly recommended for a hotel. Also well priced
- Colin (10/5): affordable comfort - good location. clean and comfortable. if in the area , recommend staying here and utilising the excellent restaurant
- Jenny (2/5): - There was a band that wasn’t advertised on the booking site which was on the floor below our room and meant we couldn’t sleep until the band finished at 11.30pm. The fan didn’t go and we couldn’t open the window for fresh air due to the noise from the smoking area which was just below the bedroom. The alarm went off twice during the night.
- David (6/5): - The Hotel is a bit old and run down, but was perfectly adequate for my one night stay. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, however the fittings were basic and the privacy (due to big open windows) was not ideal.
- Darren (10/5): - Great place for a last minute stop in Thames. Clean and comfortable, right in the historic centre.
- Marlene (8/5): - The hotel is well past it's glory days but my room was clean and tidy and the bed very comfortable. If you decide to stay on a Friday night, a loud live band plays underneath you until midnight.
- Hellyb (4/5): - Very old hotel with lots of personality .Great potential but sadly leg down by cleanliness. Indian restaurant downstairs has excellent food but again a bit grubby with no attention to detail.
- Verified traveler (2/5): 1-night stay - Extra bed wasn’t put in room even though we called them over a week before our stay. Booked an Ensuite, freezing cold shower. Went down to the reception twice, but the problem was not fixed. Would not stay there again. Not worth the money they charge.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very average would not stay again but nice food at Indian resturant
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good hotel - we stayed for one night to break our trip to Tauranga. Comfy bed, clean room. No fridge and the shower was very weak. Apart from that, an excellent stay. The new Indian restaurant (Spicy Bites) downstairs is awesome, and really generous servings!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely historic hotel in the heart of Thames ...................................................................................................................................
- JC (8/5): Winter overnight - Room was confortable, warm and clean. Staff extremely helpful. Central location meant we could walk to our event.
- Graybird (8/5): Cheap and well placed - Our priority was a clean and cheap bed for the night in the centre of Thames - The Imperial was perfect, the room was the clean the bed was comfortable, parking was included and manager asked on more than one occasion if there was anything more he could do for us.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Close to wherewewatedto go bowlingclub - Tea towel was dirty the fridge was smelly overall the bed was great
- Ajay (8/5): Great budget accommodation - Very happy with the way staff went about to make our stay a trouble free one by organising a place at the back of the hotel to park our open car which cannot be locked up or secured
- Anne (8/5): Very centrally situated in the town - We were welcomed by the manager who showed us personally to our room on the 2nd floor of this very old hotel, which these days is quite unusual.
He also pointed out off street parking at the rear of the building.
He was happy to provide ice for us to keep our provisions cold as we didn't have a fridge in our room and made our 3 day stay very enjoyable while we were there.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A little pit stop - Good basic room. Nice staff. Cleab
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly receptionist showing us around and discussing options. As (very clean and nice) communal bathrooms were quite far away from our room we upgraded to a room with ensuite. Surprisingly quiet place.
- Mark (8/5): Pleasant hotel - I booked a single room for two nights. The room was fine, although I did have to move some furniture around to get access to the plug closest to the bed, the bed comfortable enough. Not ensuite and the bathroom was down the hall and around a couple of corners. The showers were good and the bathroom was very clean.
The kitchen doesn’t open in the mornings for breakfast, but there are plenty of cafes nearby. There is a restaurant, which was okay for a dinner, but a little pricey for what it was, I thought.
WiFi was okay.
The owner/manager was very friendly and frequently asking if everything was okay, whenever he saw you.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nice hotel needing more work for guest comfort. - T V not working properly in our room, asked to watch Sky T V in bar but turned off at 8.00 pm half way through cricket game. Needs more attention to dusting of hotel.
- Jordan (8/5): Very affordable and tidy - The room was very affordable. It was a shared bathroom situation, but the bathrooms were kept clean and the room itself was tidy and looked recently renovated. The hotel is a refurbished art deco building that looks out on the main street of Thames. Ideal as a launching pad to explore other parts of the Coromandel and much cheaper than some other parts.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to stay in the middle of town - We enjoyed our stay as it was close to everything, right downtown, had a restaurant and a very comfy bed.
- Kev (6/5): Nice hotel, old place with lots of character - Nice hotel in central town..Old place with lots of character, good staff , help and friendly. They have been doing the rooms up . Place old but very clean and tidy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ir was handy - Had a great afternnon .....................all good
- Roger (8/5): February overnight stay - I mentioned to the owner that the room was very nice but could be improved by having a hair dryer, tissues and a small bar fridge. He thanked us for our suggestions and said that he would attend to those things. The lack of air conditioning may or may not be an issue.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel - Great greeting and information exactly as outlined in advertising good pub stay with OS visitors who enjoyed the stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I had a very nice stay at the hotel. The room was very clean and quiet. I would definately stay here again!
- Joce & Andrea (8/5): Really nice staff ! - Nice hotel with excellent service, they offered us everything we needed. The food was also fresh and cheap.
- Gise (8/5): Nice hotel and nice staff - Nice hotel and nice staff. Everything was good! Clean room, toilet.
- Neil (6/5): Details make all the difference - It was the details that disappointed us at the Imperial
Hotel, things like the bedspread was ripped, there was no teaspoons to make a drink and both the fan and jug did not work.
The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and all the staff were very pleasant but we still left feeling we would not stay there again or recommend it to friends.
- amy (6/5): Nice furnishings but room was hot. - Bar and restraunt onsite. Cold beer! Not much to do in this town. We had a fan but too hot upstairs room.
- Christine (8/5): Historic Hotel in central location - We stayed at the hotel for one night as we travelled through Thames. The manager was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, including the bed. Only thing missing was a bar fridge, the manager did offer use of the fridge downstairs if needed. There s a restaurant at the front of the hotel and easy access to other cafes, supermarket ad fast food outlets. Very convenient.
- Vera (10/5): Lovely old Hotel - Excellent value for money, but not a very big room, as it was the last one available,
- Tezza (2/5): Could have been better - There was no complimentary hot drinks had to go somewhere else for one. Only got given a jug of water in the room with a dirty glass..
- Terri (4/5): Pretty disappointing - Wasnt very impressed with my stay. Didnt offer and sort of hot drinks had to go to a coffee shop or petrol station. They only supplied a jug of water and a dirty glass in my room. Would not stay there again sorry
- Allan (10/5): Wonderful service and hospitality - We were treated with so much respect and friendly service it was such a pleasure to stay...the room was so clean fresh cool drinking water beside the bed beautiful clean room and great facilities staff were fantastic and served with real enthusiasm such a pleasure to stay after our last stay in a hotel in Auckland which was so poor. A truly wonderful hotel to stay and will definitely be going back
- Marshall (6/5): Clean tidy well located budget hotel. - All very clean and new and tidy with small but comfortable rooms with great beds. Shared bathroom facilities are very clean and brand-new. Main issue was noise within the hotel-mostly seem to be the owners and their family! Had to ask them to be quiet on a number of occasions around 1130 in the evening! There was also a lot of noise even later than that on a number of the nights we stayed there.
It is a real pity as the place is very neat and tidy-and the owners are very friendly and well obviously trying very hard to offer great service.
- Fozzie (8/5): 1 night stay - Friendly staff. Very old hotel. well kept & ideal for a bed for the night. Having to share bathrooms was OK for us for 1 night, but might be inconvenient for some.
