The house is well equipped with all kinds of kitchen spices, even an expresso machine! The cozy living room with books, the private deck at sunrise with birds singing and flying all around… all makes it a lovely vacation getaway in a luxury country house setting.

Nothing in the kitchen is missing for whatever your self-catering needs. And with views of the bay throughout the day to make you get out the camera or just sit on the wraparound balcony and look.

The location is ideal for exploring the eastern and middle sections of Kangaroo Island. The accommodation is expansive, comfortable and has everything you will need for an extended stay.
- Alexander (8/5): A Pleasant Accomodation In A Great Area - Our property was on the first floor which was quite steep to drive into as it is located on a hill. It has great view and the place itself was overall very pleasant to stay in. It has all the amenities you need like plates/stove/cups/etc. It was very well insulated due to the owner's passion in energy efficiency (they even documented how they did it - makes great reading I assure you) so it was very comfortable despite it was rainy and cold that day/night. The overall size of the accomodation was relatively small but cosy. There are 2 bedrooms of average size and we had a nice sleep overnight. The place is a little bit hard to find given there was no phone reception on this island (unless you are with Telstra) so the instruction on how to get there by the owner needed to be read meticulously. The area is not far from the centre of the activity within the island which is Kingscote. This is handy as you don't want to be too far away to be remote (like West End of the Island) in case you need to go to General Store or Fuel. Overall a nice place to stay and would consider coming back again if we visit the island again.

- Lloyd (8/5): Lovely location and owners - 2 bedroom fully kitted out apartment with a sea view. Lots of birds and off the main road so it's nice and quiet, outdoor sitting area. Pros; location, facilities, communication with the owner, wifi, eco conscious living. Cons; shared toiletries. Personally not a fan of large openable soaps and shampoos and coloured towels. Hotels use white towels that can be bleached, personal preference and I used my own toiletries. Sitting area could benefit from screens to make it more private from the street and hide the owners stuff.

- Verified traveler (10/5): Brand New アパート。 - 新築の台所付きアパート。昨年秋に貸し出しを始めたばかりなので、台所、寝室、バスルームすべてがピカピカ。駐車場はまだ工事が進行中。人口の少ないカンガルー島なので、本格的なスーパーのあるKingscoteまでは30分のドライブが必要。この不便さがこの地域の魅力の一つだろう。部屋からは朝日が昇るのをベッドの中から見ることができる。オーナーの部屋設計の気遣いが楽しい。誰でも気に入るアパートだ。

American River is situated in the center of everything on the island it felt like, and furthest we had to drive was an hour to Flinders Chase on the other side. The apartment had everything we could need and Kevin provided info on everything that could be done. We were more than pleased.

Just a few issues: shower runs either scalding hot or ice cold, and water goes everywhere as there is no curtain. Also no where to hang clothes. But we had a really nice stay and would stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Rear Upper Apartment - Unfinished - The views from this apartment are spectacular and the size of the apartment is very generous. However the apartment was unfinished and there is no hanging space for clothes. The gravel parking area was uneven and difficult to walk on. The bathrooms lack shower curtains and the rear bathroom shower sprays water onto the light switches. The advertising materials say that the master bedroom has a queen bed - incorrect, its a double, and there is no laundry facilities.

The kitchen is well equipped with everything we need. You can see the ocean view from the living room and dinning area. The location is close to the oyster farm and beaches. At night, you can also see wild animals around and bright stars in the sky. Overall, we had a very pleasant two nights stay here.

- Verified traveler (6/5): Better places to stay - Overrated would be just three star; read the fine print as there is a cleaning fee added prior to leaving the property of at least $30 (we only paid $10 as owner didn't have change and indicated we should pay $50 for a one night stay!!) Dining area floor very dirty and main bedroom blinds black with dust. Bottom sheet of bed looked as though someone had slept on it. Shower over bath backward for such a new building and hot water just warm. Bathroom window gauze (internal) was very dirty. Grounds overgrown & untidy. Kitchen well appointed. Great Restaurant nearby.
- Stan (10/5): Paradise - If you need a private getaway from the city life then this is it. The views from the front are absolutely beautiful as you can see the bay a stones throw away. The staff are friendly and provide assistance if needed. A short stroll away from Sunrise is a local restaurant called Wanderers Rest where you can enjoy a lovely meal overlooking the bay. American River is a very small community and consists of a post office where you can buy basic essentials. However, it is strongly recommended to have a vehicle for transport to visit the surrounding tourists attractions, such as The Oyster Farm Shop and The River Deck Cafe located in town. The town is an ideal location as it is a short drive from Kingscote and Penneshaw in either direction, these being the major towns on the island. There are many wonderful places to visit and sights to see on Kangaroo Island. I highly recommend Sunrise on Falie as the place to stay while doing so.
